Even LeBron can’t overshadow Vick’s presence
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Michael Vick sat courtside at the Hawks-Cavaliers game last night, and at halftime he held court. Making his first public statements since the NFL postseason began without his Falcons and since his brother was kicked off his college team, Vick offered commentary on both himself and Marcus. The former, he allowed, “didn’t have the season I expected to have.” The latter, Vick said, “didn’t do anything wrong.”
Other than the broken leg that essentially washed out his 2003 season, Michael Vick’s time as a Falcon has been a string of shining successes. He took his team to the playoffs and to a famous road victory at Lambeau Field in 2002, his first year as a starter, and in 2004 he steered the Falcons to the NFC championship game. He stands as Atlanta’s brightest sports star of the new millennium, but what happened in the season just completed did little to burnish his image.
His team lost its last three games, missing the playoffs and failing to post even a winning record. Worse still, Vick seemed to become confused at how he should play. Was it better to keep running, which is what made him famous in the first place, or to try and become a more polished pocket passer and thereby appease a growing coterie of critics? He never found an answer. Still hasn’t.
“In a way, I think I [had a good year],” Vick said. “In a way, I didn’t. I didn’t take over games at times, and I wish I would have. It just wasn’t our year.” With an eye toward making 2006 a better year, the Falcons jettisoned quarterbacks coach Mike Johnson, under whose tutelage Vick twice made the Pro Bowl, and hired Bill Musgrave from the Washington Redskins. Was Vick consulted on either move? Uh, no.
“I haven’t spoken to anybody [within the Falcons’ front office],” he said. “I didn’t want to see [Johnson] go… . I wish they would have [consulted him], but it’s all good. That’s why they coach.”
In the weeks since the Falcons’ season ended with that crushing loss to Carolina on New Year’s Day, Vick has spent some time with his family in Newport News, Va. There, he said, he has “been reflecting on things.” What happened during the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville on Jan. 2 — Vick was in attendance as Virginia Tech beat Louisville — surely gave the Vicks more to ponder.
Marcus Vick, the Hokies’ quarterback, stepped on the back of a fallen Louisville defender’s leg during the game. Michael Vick, who said he saw it happen, refused to condemn his brother.
“Sometimes your emotions just take over,” he said. “I know Marcus, and he’s not the kind of kid who’s going to do something like that. It’s just something he’s going to have to live with, and now it’s time to move on.”
The Gator Bowl stomp was only the beginning of Marcus Vick’s woes. Within the week he was kicked off the team, and three days after that he surrendered to police in Suffolk, Va., on three misdemeanor charges levied after he allegedly brandished a gun in the parking lot of a McDonald’s. He’s free on $10,000 bond.
Is his older brother mad at the younger Vick? No, Michael Vick said, because “he didn’t do anything wrong. The world will know when the truth comes out.”
For the moment, Michael Vick said his brother is living with him in Duluth, “working out” in preparation for the April NFL draft. (The younger Vick wasn’t, however, alongside at Philips Arena.)
In the few moments Vick spoke with two reporters, a queue of youngsters, all wanting the famous quarterback’s autograph, formed at center court. Even on a night when LeBron James was in the house — he scored 38 points as the Cavs beat the hapless Hawks — Michael Vick was still the biggest name in this town.

Hmmn, Vick is still the star of atlanta. The problem with last year wasnt Vick himself, it was this lame-a* version of the Greg Knappy west coast offense. Bring in Mike Martz to run the offense.

So Vick is bigger than life? Long before Marcus the Con ws kicked off the team and awarded a weapons charge… I suggested (tongue in cheek) that the Falcons should get the two Vicks in the backfield and let them confuse the opposition on every play…
Well that possibility could be closer than anyone could have imagined now that Marcus has taken to “packing” and waving the six gun around town..who knows who will gamble a draft pick on the future con?

Get freakin real people, Michael Vick needs to improve i.e.learn to read defenses, Falcons mgmt. get a real go to receiver and tell Knappp to hit the bricks also, if Mora fails next year he can go as well.

Michael Vick isn’t a good enough passer to lead his team to a superbowl victory. Because he is one dimensional, defenses have learned how to stop him. A NFL defense with good, fast ends? if they have a solid DL overall as well? that causes Vick to need to throw 10 to 15 yard passes and he simply can’t do that. He has no touch or accuracy. I think Arthur Blank and Jim Mora know that in their heart of hearts. Vick isn’t in the same league with Hasslebeck or the guy at Pitt.

Dont blame Vick for Falcons failure. He did what he could. And how can people say he doesnt spend enough time studying film and at practice. I didnt hear that when Bartkowski or any of the rest of those losers were here. But maybe its like the minority coaching situation in the NFL. Just depends on the color of your skin not how you do your job. (the real world). Try playing the season without Vick. Think we have been there before. Wasnt pretty.

The Falcons fell back this year because of poor defensive backs and crappy offensive playcalling. Hopefully the Falcons brass recognize now that the safety position isn’t just a spot to fill in with low budget options. Also, I would be pretty interested to see what Mike Martz could come up with for Vick and Co. if he had the offensive coordinator position, but I think Mora and Knappy are too close for Mora to run him off quite yet.

Can someone tell me why everyone seem to think thier opinion is always the right one?
People stop taking yourselves so seriously and relax.
The Falcons didn’t win the second part of the season because they didn’t win!!
Who knows!? Who cares!?
I just hope I’m alive and able to enjoy the party when they finally do win a SB or for that matter have back to back winning seasons.

I am surprised that Mike Vick was so supportive of his obvious thug brother. Anyone objective who watched the Gator Bowl knew that Marcus stomped on the UL player’s leg on purpose. That was no emotion, that was pure thug. Marcus’s actions involving firearms and the law prove he is incredibly immature and is unready for the NFL. Marcus is likely more prepared for a jail.

Oh yeah, people really need to grow up and stop worrying about what people wear. It is great to live in a country where people can be critical. It is also great to see people living their lives the way that they want to as, well. Stop being PETTY. I could care less what Mike wears, as long as he is wearing the #7 on NFL Sundays. As for Marcus Vick, there is a thing called “due process” and he is not guilty of anything until proven guilty. I am sure that you who have comment have never made a stupid decision. Only difference is no one is watching you.

No, Michael Vick isn’t God and I’m sure he knows that, but I feel all of your fare weather fans need to get off the bus. Cities like Detroit, Oakland, New Orleans, Houston, to name a few have been struggling with lots of talent on their team and their fans are still in the stands. Come on Atlanta, you must remember Football is a TEAM sports, and if everyone does their job, then hopefully we’ll get a good outcome. However, the Defense sucked this year, couldn’t stop the run, and defend the pass. The offensive line sucks also, every time Tampa, Carolina, or a team with a GOOD defense comes to town, Vick has maybe if he’s lucky 2 seconds to drop back and find a receiver, even Payton Manning can’t do that if he’s rushed, (ex: Pittsburg playoff game). Vick is still younger than Hasselbeck, who does not have a good arm. If you want to compare him to a young quarterback at least use Palmer or Culpepper.

A couple years ago, I was called a racist for making a suggestion: I suggested that the Falcons should trade Micheal Vick for the first pick in the draft and either a solid offensive lineman, wide receiver, or cornerback, as that was what they needed at the time. With that draft choice they could have drafted Eli Manning. Vick will never be a great quarterback. Vince Young is already Vick’s equal as a scrambler and a better passer. He may not have quite as strong an arm, but he makes better passes. Vick is a great runner and athlete; no quarterback. Also, his brother is a reflection of him. After spending time with him in Atlanta, you see the so called influence he had. Certain athletes are protected by media- Vick is one of them- anything he does is glossed over like Bradley’s article where he glosses over the Ron Mexico embarrassment. The difference between him and his younger brother is that his problems aren’t made public like Marcus’. I’m a Falcons fan and always will be, and will pull for Vick as long as he is a Falcon for the team’s sake, but how about we find ourselves a real quarterback instead?

How soon we forget!!!! Its funny how poor decisions by management some how fall back on Michel Vick. First of all, the guy plays hard and lays it out on the field for the team! Anybody doubting that, just put his effort and team success( one game away from the superbowl last year) against say: Chris Miller, June Jones, Jeff George and say uhmm Steve Bartkowski. The problem with this team is that we expect Vick to do it all and that just doesn’t cut itin the NFL! Who was the last quality wide out to suit up for the Falcons? Andre Rison? Alfred Jenkins? Who? You don’t win in the NFL with a TE being your go to guy!!! So listen up management and all you bloggers!!! Get the guy some help! How long before we get a wide out who can stretch the field or help get rid of that 8 men in the box defense that Vick faces every game? As for the brother, “A GROWN MAN!!!” Do we fault hollywood stars for the failings of their siblings or kids? No!!! So don’t expect Vick to shoulder the burdens of Marcus’s shortcomings! The team brings in Bill Musgrave to coach Michael Vick….great but can he catch a quick out? Stretch a defense? Make a tough catch in the clutch? Again putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound!!!!

I can’t understand this Vickhate… C’mon people. Mike had a couple of bad games, but we lost mostly because of injuries, a defensive collapse and poor play-calling. Vick left both Tampa games with several leads. We couldn’t stop anybody.
How can you “fans” forget the great plays Vick made over his short career? This kid already has a pair of shoes in the NFL Hall of Fame. He is a winner!
Tampa, Carolina and Chicago dominated our O-line this year, and Vick was warrior enough to face them with bruised ribs and a sprained knee.
Vince Young is not better than Vick. Against USC, his receivers had to scoop and dive for many “low” balls, preventing yards after catch. Nice running, but don’t be naive… He was not facing Simeon Rice, Peppers or Urlacher… USC is not the Steelers. C’mon people. Stop hating and start using your “football brains”.
Peace.

Vick is a sorry quarterback! He threw fifteen touchdown passes and thirteen interceptions this past season. His 2004 stats were virtually the same as in 2005. In 2006 the Falcons will win no more than five games tops if they play Vick. Schaub would be the better choice by far. He threw four touchdowns in 64 attempts. It took Vick 387 to throw fifteen. With stats such as he has, you have to wonder why he’s regarded as highly as he is in Atlanta. It is now obvious that the success the Falcons had prior to this year was not a function of anything Vick did. Luck played a big part in their meager success to be sure. Dumping Vick would be a great thing to do! Schaub is an excellent passer and he has the intellectual capacity to understand and execute the West Coast offense as it’s drawn up. Vick does not understand the offense at all. That is easily seen. What he runs is the Vick offense which is one ineffectual run around in the backfield after another. Interestingly, the new guru hired by Mora was once a coach to Schaub. They’re on the same page while Vick doesn’t even have the correct book.

MV just grates on many sports fans. His remarks on anything except football just aggravate, and, in fact, many of those on football as just as irritating. When he is not winning games with razzle-dazzle, all of that comes to the fore. MV is hard to put into perspective. He obviously is quite an athlete. Beyond that - citizen, winning football player, team player, etc - it’s all quite debatable. And there seems to be few signs that is going to change.

People can attempt to blame Mick Vick for not taking the Falcons to the SB. However, the football I watch usually takes 11 guys on both sides of the ball. When one guy misses his blocking assignment, or a reciever drops a pass that could have given them the first down that they needed, or a running back that is getting stuffed because a offensive tackle or guard is not making their blocks, you cant expect Vick to work miracles. Only God does that. If the Falcons have a lead, and the defensive line is getting pushed around, the linebackers are attempting to cover the recievers, because our defensive backs (excluding D. Hall) cant cover a bed with a blanket, you cant expect to win. Everyone focus’s on Vick to do everything. HE CANT. So obviously it isnt Mick Vick thats the problem. It the whole darn team. I hope the top brass will plug the problem holes, and then Mick can become as good as the other GREAT quarterbacks in the league. Please, someone get Knapp out. He as useful as an elevator in an outhouse.

Mike Vick is going to be just fine, he has to grow as a quarterback, I don’t think that he is a natural prototype quarterback but just an excellent athelete that has an incredible arm. Most of the people writing negative comments about him are racist and don’t want to see a black quarterback succeed anyway!!

BRADLEY,
YOUR ARTICLE IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHY VICK’S HEAD IS SO SWOLLEN HE CAN’T THINK STRAIGHT!!! COMMENTING ON THE QB COACH MOVES YOU SAID: Was Vick consulted on either move? Uh, no. VICK IS CONFUSED ENOUGH RIGHT NOW, HE DOESN’T NEED MEDIA CRAP, HE NEEDS SUPPORT FROM THE FRONT OFFICE AND AN OFFENSE TO SUPPORT HIS SKILLS.
UNFORTUNATELY, THE FALCONS ARE NOT MOVING FORWARD. THEY ARE STUCK IN THE SAME WCO RUT. HEADLINE: FALCONS HIRE MUSGRAVE Adding ex-‘Skins QB coach “huge in West Coast scheme, Mora says. Looks like they won’t create an offense for Vick, just shove WCO down his throat!!! SO SAD, TOO BAD!!!!
IF VICK DOESN’T WISE UP AND BECOME A REAL TEAM LEADER, WE’LL HAVE ANOTHER T.O. ON OUR HANDS. LETS PLAY FOOTBALL!!!

Bradley,
Who in his right mind starts a blog like this when you know EXACTLY what it’s going to degrade into? You’ve seen enough of these to know better. Or was that the intent?
Anyway,I think that Vick was absolutely right when he said that there were a lot of times that he could have taken over a game and didn’t. It think that the reason behind that is because he was trying to appease that “objective” media that Frisco made reference to last night. Well, for whatever reason when the Falcons were 6-2, sportswriters had nothing more to say about Michael Vick than that he wasn’t a “passing” quarterback, the inference being of course that he should be more like Peyton Manning. Well, he tried his best to shut them up. There were just a few problems though. Vick didn’t have Manning’s offensive line. When you’ve got all day to sit and pat the ball, it’s easy to rack up numbers and look like the greatest passing quarterback of all time, which Manning may be, but we saw in the playoffs, Indianapolis’ lone playoff game against Pittsburge, how Manning responds to serious pressure. Well folks, whether you admit it or not, Vick LIVED under pressure all season long. Also, what these “objective” and responsible journalists refused to understand is that when you have three to five guys on your offense that are thousand yard viable, it’s easy to pick a different one on every play. Vick had nowhere near those weapons, but he thought that his team was good enough to win without him having to carry them. He was wrong.
You know, the Falcons finished at .500, could have been a lot better, could have been worse, but I remember a time, and it wasn’t that long ago when Atlanta Falcon fans would have considered a .500 season not only a relief, but a blessing. Regardless of your personal feelings, what cannot be ignored is the fact that in his short time as a quarterback, Vick has enjoyed more success than most Falcon quarterbacks do in their entire tenure with the birds and the suggestion, the mere suggestion, that he isn’t a good quarterback, and that he cannot lead a team, and that he hasn’t been successful with the Falcons are statements based on nothing but ignorance…or hatred.

Things to consider regarding the Falcons and MV:
Falcons transformed from a highly ranked run-stopping defense to virtually non factors in the balance of the second half of the season, due to injuries and lack of experience
where the defense had been making big plays one season prior, this season was left with a void and being the sports fundamentalist I consider myself to be, pops always said defense wins games
where special teams was a big factor in “tone setting” and game play one or two seasons prior, this past season showed little semblence of it at all
there was just too little experience on both sides of the ball for the falcons…as for MV, I would like to seee him improve on his accuracy and get back to fundamentals. The Falcons suffered several losses this past season that could have gone their way but to me were the affects of lack of experience on defense, multiple injuries and conservative play calling on offense.

It is time for Vick to accept responsibility for his actions and to stop pacifying his little brother, which may be the biggest part of the Marcus Vick situation. Vcik will only be a n NFL QB as long as his amazing speed and athleticism keeps him there. He must become a better passer and better leader if he is to be the franchise QB Falcon fans expect him to be. He must also become a better leader. It was obvious to me, and to everyone else that watched the game at Chicago, that Vick wanted no part of that game because of the frigid weather conditions.
Hey Michael, it’s time for you to step up as an NFL QB and as a man, you can’t keep defending your little borther and the way you played this season.

I dont see the reason why vick should be blamed for the poor season.First of all the management knew they needed help in the safety position but never brought in aquality player in the off season. The starting safeties in our team cannot even get a backup role in most nfl teams.I hope they’ll upgrade this position this off season. We had the lead in the final minutes of most games that we lost but our defence coun’t stop anybody.Vick had a good season but his defence let him down. You all need to use your football heads and quit hating.

I will just say that everyone has a right to their opinion, but being realistic, the Falcons were not very good when we did not have Vick. I will agree that he needs to get better, but we have won a historical game in Lambeau Field with Vick as our quarterback and we have made it to the NFC Championship. With more time we will be Superbowl champions, remember it took Mike Holgrem 4 years to groom Brett Farve and in the 5th year they won the Superbowl. Guess what year this is for Mike Holgrem and Matt Hasselbeck? Fifth….

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Mike Vick has revolutionized the quarterback position. Say what you want about his stats but don’t let them give you the picture of a glass “half empty.” Stats have to be interpreted, but when you understand that teams change their defensive schematics to adjust to Mike Vick alone, there is really no stat that can account for that. Also, I don’t understand why anyone is trying to draw any relation to his clothing and his character. Trailblazers are often considered trouble makers because they don’t follow the beaten path. At any rate, I would definitely have to question the rationale and/or sincerity of anyone judging the character of a multi-million dollar entertainer based on the clothes he wears. If your professional biases were the rule, maybe it would matter.

Wish I time to read all of the comments; but for the ones I did read, I did not see ONE that exposed the terrible defensive “non-effort” the Falcons experienced, especially the second half of the season, i.e., no speed, no talent, no intelligence and no adjustments by the defensive coaches…fire them all (players & coaches)!!! As for the offence, (numerous) dropped passes, penalties, etc, etc, etc.

Vick is overrated and should not be headed to a Pro Bowl, He wa one of the worst rated passers in the NFL and barely ran for half the yards he ran for in 2004. It is easy to overlook Vick’s shortcomings when the team is going to the NFC CHampionship Game, but when they go 8-8 and 2-6 in the second half of the season, Vick’s shortcomings as a QB are glaring.
Bring on Matt Shaub before the next Brett Favre leaves Atlanta.

Rick, how many games has Matt Schaub won in the regular season? I hate to be the bearer of bad news my friend, but the ONLY time you will see Matt Schaub start for this team is in the preseason or if Mike is injured. The sad thing is, when he has started he hasn’t won a game. My bad, it’s the defense’s fault when Matt loses, right?…lol You IDIOTS are SICK!!
I tell you ONE thing, if by some MIRACLE Matt does become the QB for this team on a permenant basis, the GA. DOME would be half empty. You could have my season tickets for $10….heck that’s all they would be worth!!

We all saw how “great” Peyton Manning was when he did not have time in the pocket. It all starts with the protection and time in the pocket. The falcons will become better with all-around play and coaching. Look at the two teams in the Super Bowl and you see what it takes to win.

MARCUS VICK DID NOTHING WRONG!?!?! Mike obviously lives in a dream world. His brother is a lowlife. He has been arrested multiple times and still gets in no real trouble. He should have never played in the Gator bowl because of the arrest in mid December that Beamer “forgot” to tell anyone about. I lost all respect for Beamer and Vtech in that game. Don’t care about Mike Vicks choice of clothing. Don’t care about his way of talking or his lifestyle. They all seem very unprofessional to me but if he doesn’t care, why should I? Oh yea, I don’t care how much money he makes either. The Owners and the NFL make so much money that anything these kids get out of them they deserve, it takes nothing out of my pocket nor adds anything to it. I do, however, feel that his contract has wrecked the Falcons Salary Cap for years to come. I feel that Mike Vick’s NFL career is now on the downhill slide and can only only be saved if and when he learns to play all aspects of his position. The NFL defenses were caught offguard when MV came into the league. They couldn’t figure out how to stop a QB with his arm AND running ability. Well, surprise, surprise, they reliazed he couldn’t read a defense or hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle. Now it is his turn to adjust to defense’s stacking the line to stop his running because they do not care if he throws the ball, he doesn’t do it well enough to win games. He will have to become a better student of the game, stop thinking he can ALWAYS get out of trouble with his feet and become a more accurate passer. Can he do these things? Don’t know, but he will have to if he want’s to continue playing QB in the NFL. Every time something negetive is said about MV here comes the race card. I don’t care if a player is purple poka dot if he is doing a good job fine, if not why the redneck, hood wearing, white trailor trash, comments? Mike’s play is what 90% of what “us people” have a problem with. Nothing else, period…………………

Vick wanted to be consulted before the coaching change? Do they consult the center before they make a line coach change? Another case of over-inflated importance. Get a life Mike. Oh, and I read elsewhere he said that his brother didn’t mean to stomp on that player’s leg. Now we know why he couldn’t find his receivers…..he’s blind.

Its so sick to hear individuals who probaly have not played a down of football in their life, critize the way this man plays ball. Most of you armchair quarterbacks couldn’t play in a kid’s pick-up game let alone an organized sport. Football is defined by your playmaking ability, not whether you want to define him by comparing him to a Peyton Manning. The first quaterbacks in this game played the game with a run-first mentality. Rule changes led to the aerial assaults we see today. With the speed that evolved on the defensive side, quaterback have hardly been as mobile as Vick. He has a cannon for an arm but at what point has he had a great coach who would elevate his play to where ALL of you expect it to be. You get him with a Holmgren, Martz, or someone who is known for getting the most out of the quaterbacks and see what happens. Favre was not the player he has become until he had a coach. Montana and Young had the benefit of great coaches. When will you ignorant GA rednecks get you head out your rears and realize you all sound so much smarter when you dont say anything at all.

After reading the above, I feel dirty, wading through the haters’ slimey postings…
Time will tell whether Vick will grow into a great QB in the west coast offense, but to throw him under the bus for this season is unfair and absurd.
This past season’s results are primarily due to: poor defensive staffing decisions/cuts at safety and dline; injuries, poor Oline pass-blocking and blitz pickups; awful Knapp playcalling at critical junctures; poor receiver performance; up-and-down passing accuracy from Vick; defenses scheming to stop Vick’s running and no tactical response from Knapp..
All these things can be fixed, but my hope is that the new QB coach hiring is a shot across Knapp’s bow - if he does not use some imagination in scheming for Vick’s talents and playcalling, he can and will be replaced with someone who does.
Since Arther and the organization did invest in Vick, they better draft a top tackle who can pass block to protect him and they better fix the broken aspects of the scheme and playcalling because it was clear the other team knew what plays we were running much of the time as we lined up.
For all those spouting so much bile in here all the time - I must say I liked it better when we only had folks who paid to blog in here - the environment was much better and so many of you seem to take out your unhappyness in life in these blogs rather than doing something constructive.
I am a Falcon fan for over 30 years now, and I support Vick and I support the franchise - onward to the Draft and Free Agency and lets fix the problems.
cheers

This comment is for true Falcon Fans only. The Fans that remember what is was like to watch the birds suffer week in and week out. Fans who remember going to games before the Georgia Dome was even constructed.
How quickly we have become spoiled. We as Falcon fans have had QB’s with the name Miller, George, Billy Joe who, and Chandler just to name a few. And now we want to attack and belittle Mike Vick. I’m not one that belives Vick is the God alot of people make him out to be but I do belive he gives of more of a chance to win than we’ve had in a long time. Vick does need to get better, but I think the entire team and coaching staff should try and get better as well.

Let me break it down for my white brothas on the board, this gets so racially charged because Vick has won just as much as any of the top QBs in this league, Division titles. Plus he was the first black QB taken with the first pick in the NFL draft. Do you really understand the pressure of that. He was one of only 6 qbs to make the pro bowl in his first year starting. He was 20-1 in college. He has been to the NFC Division tile game 2 out of 3 years starting, and to the NFC Championship game in 3 years starting. So when your statement is he is stupid and unitelligent, he is not competent enough to read defense, it is a slap in the face, regardless of what you mean by it and why you say it. That was long the reason why black qbs were not prevelaent in the league because coaches believed they were not intelligent enough. You dont have to like Vick’s game, but hell you have to at least respect the winning tradition he has brought to this town. But we are in Atlanta and we have some of the most fickle fans. There is a waiting list to get in the dome, and it sure aint to see Chris Miller, Chris Chandler or Steve Bartowski(no disrespect), so I guess really its just a few bloggers who are in the vocal minority. This knowledge is free, invest it and let it multiply.

Atlanta has never been known for passionate Falcons fans which is why I am so shocked to see so much “hate” about the Quarterback of the Falcons. It’s not like all you people that want a new QB where filling up the dome before he came to town, you expected the Falcons to lose, the nation expected the Falcons to lose, we couldn’t buy a Monday night game or a play-off game (excluding 98) and you accepted it. I have lived here all my life and I don’t recall you so called “I have been a Falcons fan before Vick came and I will be one long after he is gone” fans calling for anyone to leave then but the owner. Vick will get better, and dare I saw much richer, deal with it. This team will get better, support them.
Sportswriters that don’t just read stats before writing about the Falcons will not blame Vick for many of those games lost because everyone knows, the offense put us in position in many 4th quarter games to WIN. You kill me, you had no problems with Farve and his drinking through the city of Atlanta when he was here, but you can’t deal with how Vick dresses and the we should have drafted Eli comment is a joke since most Giants fans are upset they didn’t draft Rosthelisberger instead….Get over yourselves! I am a Falcons fan, I live and die for the Falcons, I am over the fact that we went 8-8 and looking for to the 2006 season and believe we will get better, Vick will get better. I just believe for no other reason than I support my team.
As for Vick work habits and your insider knowledge, his NFL players and coaches voted him to the pro bowl, but also remember this, Peyton Manning is said to study game film day and night but yet had no answer for what the Steelers put on him and as he said….”we had some issues with protection”…Welcome to Vick’s world baby…… Go Falcons, Go Vick!

When are you people going to realize it’s not about color. I’m white and I love watermelon and fried chicken. May I have a waffle also please? It’s the fact that Michael Vick is just not that good. I am personally disappointed in Marcus Vick because his skills are 100x better than big brother’s. Then per the article Michael says that his brother did nothing wrong. Since when is physically abusing an opponent who stopped your offense right? I understand trash talking but stepping on somebody and trying to hurt them. Come on and grow up. I wish I were at that game so that I could have booed Michael Vick. If I saw him on the streets you can best be sure that I would tell him that he is not up to par with the great quarterbacks of the league. Big Ben. Two years in the NFL two back to back winning seasons, two straight AFC title games and now he’s going to the Super Bowl. If memory serves me correct he is the second youngest to start in a Super Bowl behind Dan Marino in 1985. And guess what Ben can run and pass and read defenses. So Michael needs to watch some film of the great quarterbacks and see how they play. Then he needs to emulate some of that in his game and he just might I repeat MIGHT take the Falcons to back to back winning seasons but NOT a Super Bowl. The quarterback leads the team and should be able to lead them to victories. A post earlier talked about Peyton Manning. The Colts defense is one of the worst in the leagues and they led the league in victories and other categories. They just happened to run into a red hot Steelers team that I don’t think the Seahawks will be able to stop. So don’t tell me about how Peyton couldn’t do it because he did it fourteen times. Now stop so I can get me my chicken and watermelon.

JIM Hey! Stat-Boys the only stat that matters is winning percentage. STOP HATING!!! get it right, i dont care if he can’t read “green eggs and ham” as long as he wins. So stop saying he needs to improve, Knapp(Offense) and Donatell (Defense) need to adjust(that’s what real coahes do). When Mr. Reeves had the helm Mr Vick had 2900 passing and about 800 rushing and a playoff victory @ Lambeau, he was suppose to only get better. Instead he was injured, they released the best coach for him, and now the blame is all on Vick. Its not his fault the receivers can’t catch, its not his fault that Duckett runs as soft as a feather-down pillow, and it’s definetly not his fault that as soon as the ball is snapped he’s running for his life(build up the O-Line). So when You discuss the Falcons know what you’re talking about guy.

While both Vicks are extremely talented and exciting to watch, more defenses are becoming more complex and able to deal with a one-diminsional quarterback. I foresee the Vicks going the way of say Cordell Stewart (Cordell who?)who was the bonb his first years and then the defenses ate his lunch when they realised how to contain him. The Falcons need a whole team not just a mobile, multi-functional quarterback to win consistently.
Marcus is a bad apple thug, but who wouldn’t be if big brother kept bailing him out. Do you think whoever drafts him will throw in the Lawerence Phillips or Maurice Clarrett clauses if he flubs up?

I see most of the un-politically correct white people insults, where are the un-politically correct insults towards blacks. Oh thats right african americans are offended if caucasian americans use slang words when describing an african american. Whats that about? Shouldn’t we all have respect for one another? Reading all of these post are making me sick! I’ve actually hung around Vick, D hall, and a couple more of the players. I’m 25 years old and I have friends on various teams.I know and understand what goes on in the league and how the players around the league really are. Some are good guys and some are not, but average fans wont be able to tell by watching football games and reading articles in the paper. Some of the worse guys you never read about. You older people have to understand that the guys in the league are different now. This is the hip hop culture and with that comes the style of dress and the way of life. Doesn’t mean that they are thugs and bad individuals. Everybody didn’t grow up in a Peyton Manning type life style, therefore people react differently in certain situations. The incident with Marcus was brought about because those boys at Mcdonalds were threatning his girl and him, not knowing Marcus had protection. Marcus didn’t shot anyone he just let them wanna be thugs know what time it was. Those guys knew who Marcus was and wanted to start something. He is Michael little brother and a star in his own right so he is naturally going to be a target. People you should know the facts before you start to judge. As far as the weed Marcus had, I mean get real people who doesn’t smoke weed in Professional Sports? Your favorite white boy athlete does too! Keith Brooking came up to me and my friends in the club asking where can he get what we were smoking on so again you guys don’t really know how things are! Is Keith a thug cause he smokes weed? No, but you would say Marcus and Micheal are. As far as football goes. Yes Mike can get better, but I think so can Peyton and damn near everybody else. The team also needs to get better and fill some obvious holes that we have at certain positions. Nobody is talking about how Eli sucked this year! He is in his second year of Starting and Vick is in his 3rd year. Has Eli taken his team to the NFC championship game yet? Has he won a big game yet? You guys want to compare Vick to Peyton who has been starting for Damn near 10 years.

Attention “sun natured” fans,
Pardon the pun, but you have to lighten up a little. When things go right for the Falcons, Vic will get most of the credit but with that, comes that when things go bad, he will get most of the blame. If someone criticizes him, it is not because of his skin color. All the qbs mentioned who played before Vic took just as much, if not more critizism than Vic ever has and justly so. Nothing was said about it because they were white. Just beause he is a black qb does not mean he is immune from critizism. It was a bad season. He did not have a good season. Besides Warrick Dunn, no one had a good season. 2005 was a flop.
All I ever heard was that it didn’t matter about Vick’s stats. All that mattered was that he won. Well guess what, he’s not winning so Mike has to realize that he may have to work a little bit harder in the off season and in between games to get ready. No more of this playing Playstation all the time and just stepping out on the field.

Speaking of “one dimensional” quarterbacks….did you see what happened to Peyton against the steelers when he couldn’t stand in the pocket for 10 seconds and throw the ball?
Mike Vick faces blitzing defenses almost every play of every game and the falcon’s o-line isn’t half as good as the Colts.
I wonder what Peyton’s stats would be if he had to face a blitz almost every play…..he would be crying like a Bi#$% like he did after the Steelers crushed him and his ego!!

For all of you so called fans, and you know who you are, that have nothing but negative remarks about Vick. Remember he is still a young growing quaterback that has already led,and i stress led his team to a NFC title game and a remarkable win in Green Bay at a time when that was unheard of. Oh did a mention he’s still YOUNG…..To bash his cause he hasn’t won a SuperBowl or because he’s not the norm at the quaterback position is sabortaging to us real fans and to the sport. This guy is a winner, regardless of how he dresses off the field(please, can get past judging a book by it’s cover, PLEASE), or what his stats are on the field(Cause if I’m not mistaken God almighty himself, Payton Manning, who is older than Vick is superbowl-less as well and is no more successful in the post season than Vick). With him we’ll have a chance every year. The Falcon Coaches simply need to revamp the offense to optimize what he excels in regardless of what they call the offense, be it the west coast, east coast or what ever, it just need to contour to his strengths. That being said, I will say this; Vick needs to learn how to take the good with the bad. When you are great except your accolades, but when you’re not except your criticism(as long as it’s constructive). I beleive him when he says he wants to be the best, he is very coachable; but sometimes that can be a flaw(he lost his edge last year because he was trying to fit in knapp’s system). Hey! Knapp, how about making the system fit Vick for a change…..And on that I’m out.

Kay are you serious, you want Michael Vick to come out on Tv, with his brother having a pending court case and bash him. It is his brother, wrong or right, and you stand behind him until the end. He is doing everything possible, “behind the scenes”, to keep his brother from being another statistic. And, about the race issue on this blog, I love it as long as it is discussed tastefully. Sports is one of the only avenues where people of all races and genders get together to root for the same cause.I talk about race to teach, not to offend. But enough of that. You guys keep saying you are looking at the onfield play of Vick and thats what you assess. Ok i will give you that arguement but if you are going to blame Vick when lose you better sure as hell praise him when we win if it all is in his hands. And he sure has won alot more than he is lost. And about Rothl…berger, you the Pitt Qb, he has one of the nastiest defenses around, giving him great field position at least two or three times a game by forcing turnovers. That is what the Falcons lacked this year. There are 22 starters, the Vick arguement is getting old. Peyton can come here and avg 31 points a game but if the d is giving up 32 points a game, does it really matter. Tammy,I love you too boo.

One thing about clothes. I’m thirty years old and I’m teacher. I also happen to be black. I am the only teacher at my school that dresses in a shirt, tie, and slacks everyday, well, almost everyday. I’ve written students up for wearing the types of clothes that Mike Vick wears. As a result they were sent home. I believe that certain clothes are NOT appropriate to certain venues. When NBA players are on the bench representing their team and the NBA, they don’t need to be in T-Shirts and pants that only come up to their knees. They can express themselves on their own time, and that’s what Vick was doing last night. When we tell people what they can and can’t wear on their own time, we’re not taking a step toward providing young people with positive role models, we’re taking a step toward fascism. Okay the first test just came in, gotta go!

Well, I am again dissappointed that any mention of the quarterback of OUR team stirs up such disdain even though he has performed better than most of the other QB’s that have been in this town. To be fair, alot of these same people bashing Mike were probably bashing Jeff George. I also recall Chris Chandler receiveing a fair amount of vitrol and like it or not, he took us to the Super Bowl. Its the nature of the beast. I am mostly upset by the racial tone that continues to be the focus. I would suggest to anyone that thinks that doo rags, corn rows, and baggy jeans are synonymous with thuggery, please ask most young GI’s what is in their closets…they are spending their hard earned money on clothes that come straight out of the rock and hip hop music videos and this is for ALL RACES AND COLORS! Kids wear clothes and listen to music that their parent’s hate! Period! Thats what young people do; even if they are young people serving in Iraq, gangbanging, working at the grocery store, selling drugs, or playing football on Sundays. Wake up clothes don’t always say what kind of man you are. What did Eric Rudolph, Tim McVey, or for that matter the Beltway Sniper wear? None of them wore Sean John…..and I believe Enron had a very conservative dress code…..let’s focus on football people. Vick fell short this season and needs to pick it up, but so does every player who isnt on the Seahawks or Steelers.

M, Bobby, wj, etc., In my opinion, you can’t fault Mike for what he said about Marcus. It’s his brother, for crying out loud. If my brother is accused of killing somebody, my reaction would probably be “well whoever it was probably provoked, or it was self-defense, or you have the wrong man.” I would defend him to the death unless and until he’s convicted. Do you expect him to convict his own brother to a reporter on an on-the-record interview? That’s crazy. Think about what you would do for one of your kids or siblings.

I see that there are quite a few wanna be analysts who don’t have a clue about the game of football. The problem with the Falcons is NOT Vick. I don’t care if you brought in Joe Montana, John Elway, Bret Farvre or who else that you can think of on your all-time qb list, it wouldn’t make a difference cause that offensive line sucks!!!! That has always been the problem with the Falcons. They just simply have not figured out how to pass protect for 60 minutes. The other problem is the fact that there was no go to receiver the whole season.
Once you people come to grips with that reality, and the Falcons coaching staff as well, then and only then will the Dirty Birds be contenders.

Its obvious you people that are making the comments about Schuab being the QB over Vick because he can so call read defense better and have a better grasp of the offense. It makes me believe that all u do is sit back and watch highlights and so blind to the fact that there are several other issues the Falcons have besides QB, EXAMPLE our defense could not stop Parview, Knapp can not adjust to the talents of the best athlete to ever play the position. I could go on but I will hold that. Just wait until we get the other areas correct then all you Vick haters will be all on his jock again. Remember its easy to sit back and judge him because he is different from the norm. Nothing remains the same be aware there will be a lot more Vicks than Mannings coming up just watch the game on Saturdays.

Who cares about Lebron James? He didn’t score 81 points.
Any high school team could easily be the Hawks. Most of the fans usually come to see the other teams play anyway. It gives you something to do.
The Cleveland Cavs is not a premier team.
Yes we are going to show love to our home superstar…Michael Vick. If his brother was there, he would have gotten more love than Lebron also.
Remember, Michael Vick does not carry the whole team. It’s the whole team fault that the season didn’t have a better outcome. Not Michael Vick. Start at that angry guy name Jim Mora, then work your way down. He’s a little too anal retentive.

I can’t resist any longer bored at work and I might as well throw in my 2 cents. “Defense wins championships” Until Atlanta can stop the run the Falcons will never win a Ring. The Ravens won b/c they had one of the best D’s of all time and a below avg QB. Mike Vick doesn’t blow games like Jake Plummer. Big Ben is good but lets not forget they have a superior Defense and a High Profile WR Hines Ward, A hall of fame RB Bettis, and contless stars on both sides. Other then Tom Brady who would you not criticize???? What other QB in the league is not under fire from week to week? The answer is none!
It’s easy to criticize MV for his low QB rating but this rating system does not take into account winning percentage/rushing yards/ and scrabmling ability. What the falcons need is a WR to stretch the field and a solid defense. Matt Shaub maybe a good QB but he’s no Mike Vick. We don’t know enough about Matt Shaub yet but we do know that Mike Vick is a proven winner in this league.

What was the biggest difference between the birds going 11-5 and then 8-8? THE DEFENSE. The offense actually improved, was ranked 11th in the entire league, and led the NFL in rushing for the second straight year. However, the defense collapsed at crutial momemts in close games. The Falcons led the Bucs late in the 4th quarter of both games only to watch the defense surrender the lead. The offense actually moved the ball fairly easily against the supposed best defense in the league. A blocked field goal is all that kept the birds from a winning season. In the New England game, the defense put the offense in huge holes, and after Shuab and brought the birds back what happened? Defense coughed it up again. Horrible against the run and couldn’t put pressure on the QB. Vick has some problems for sure, but look what happened to stereotype QB’s in the playoffs—both Mannings, Delhomme, Plummer, Kitna, Brady, Grossman. They all looked horrible in their losses.

YO JIM, I AGREE WITH YOU THAT MIKE VICK NEEDS TO IMPROVE ON HIS ACCURACY & DECISION MAKING TO GET TO THAT NEXT LEVEL WHICH I HOPE NO THAT THEY HAVE A REAL Q.B COACH(MUSGRAVE) HE’LL IMPROVE IN THAT REGARD;BUT HE STILL IS A YOUNG PLAYER & YOUNG MAN FOR THAT MATTER. I THINK YOU’RE TOO CAUGHT UP IN HOW VICK LOOKS(EX. CORNROWS, BAGGY CLOTHES, ETC) MORE THAN ANYTHINGELSE. D. MCNABB OF THE EAGLES ALSO SPORTS A FRO & CORNROWS & WEARS BAGGY CLOTHES AS WELL FROM TIME TO TIME BUT NOONE SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT HIM. VICK DOES DRESS UP & WEAR SUITS FROM TIME TO TIME BUT UNLIKE THE NBA THE NFL PLAYERS DON’T HAVE A DRESS CODE & GET FREE ADVERTISING WHEN PLAYERS HAVE ON TEAM MERCHANDISE. IT’S JUST A SIGN OF THE TIMES VICK DRESSES HOW THIS GENERATION(WHITE & BLACK) DEEMS TO BE STYLISH. JOE NAMATH IN THE 70’S SPORTED FULL LENGTH FUR COATS & HAD WOMEN IN EACH ARM LOOKING MORE LIKE A PIMP THAN A NFL QB BUT HE TURNED OUT PRETTY GOOD SO GET OFF VICK & HOW HE DRESSES I THINK AS HE GETS OLDER & MATURES HE’LL PROBABLY DRESS A LITTLE MORE UPSCALE SO LET IT GO & ADMIT WHAT YOUR PROBLEM WITH VICK REALLY IS. I THINK YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. GONE.

People lets leave our agendas and personal feelings at the door and lets just talk FOOTBALL…please! It amazes me how some people talk about another person that they have never met let alone held a conversation with. Personally I’m looking forward to a new qb coach because I’m not sure what the old one did.

I’ve been reading this crap for a long time and now I’m sick of it. You guys spewing all this HATE are simpletons. I applaud those trying in earnest to beat it down. Mike Vick has accomplished more with less than any QB in the NFL since Randal Cunningham plaid with the likes of Vai Sicahema and was league MVP. At least they had a defense. Falcons can’t block, convert short yardage with a 267 lb back, catch passes right in their hands, call plays that fit the situation, or stop opponents on 3rd down (as long as Rossum’s on the field, move the chains). Yet, Mike has NEVER belittled any teammate for their poor play. He has been extremely hard himself. He makes mistakes trying too hard. I guess that’s a bad trait to have according to all FalKKKan fans out there. Another bad trait is supporting a young family member during a crisis time of their life. This definatelly NOT the kind of leader for FalKKKan fans. These fans simply have a problem with young minorities getting paid enormous amounts of money for playing a game. By the way, if you worked hard and had the talent they do, perhaps you’d be playing instead of watching and b*. But you don’t so deal with it. These type of fans are also media types who leap at any opportunity to berate these athletes for any indescretion. We have all done things we’re not proud of. It’s just that no body gives a damn. But while you hold these individuals to such high standards, you turn a blind eye on others as you see fit. You’ve been making excuses for Favre for the past 5 years. Despite being an admitted drug abuser. I know it was prescription medication, but he didn’t have a prescription. He broke federal law and should have went to jail, but got a pass. He was given an opportunity to disclose his issue by an ESPN reporter before he printed the story. No minority athlete would’ve every be afforded a chance like that. Peyton, whom I like very much, especially as a young man, has failed in big games since college. Colt fans and most media lay off. They were preparing excuses for Brady all year, if he was SO great, he’d will the PAT’s to the SB. You need a supporting cast. Think about it, the same people who talk about athletes and their issues could care less about tv and movie stars. Nicole Kidmans career took off after she cheated and got pregnant on Tom Cruise. No one says anything about her 12.5 million per movie or the $12.00 ticket price to see her. Robert Downey Jr. was arrested 12 times in less than a year on various druq charges and signed with ABC straight out of rehab. Later receiving Oscar consideration for his Chaplin pic. Why the double standard? I could list many more, but you should get the point. As far as Marcus Vick is concerned, you don’t know enough about everything to really have an opinion to assume he’ a thug or criminal. All anyone know’s is what they’ve been told. I have an opinion based soley on those same reports mixed with common sense and compassion. He’s a young man in his early 20’s who’s made some mistakes. Get off you high horse for a minute and try to understand. You or people you know have tried to or get high. Some of you have gotten a speeding ticket. Perhaps some of you purchased beer for you lil’ brother or his friends for a party. Many of you have met a girl in a club and later found out she was underage. Must you I.D. everyone you meet. It’s assumed it was checked at the door. What is a 15 yr old girl doing out @ 3:00 am? What would you say to someone who was berating you with names like “rapist” and child molester” ? Things happen on a football field and basketball court and it’s barbaric. Worse happens in a hockey game and it’s part of the sport? Just some things you may wish to consider before the next time you encounter these things for author you next post. If this kind of HATE continues in the blog, I will do whatever I can to have the blogs discontinued. WHATEVER I can !!! Have a nice day.

To everyone,
Let me summarize the whole think for you. The Falcons are going to be a great team, but it is going to take some time. We have 4 7th round picks and 1 undrafted player on the starting offensive line. They have been coached up to perform better than I ever thought they could have, but they were 7th rounders for a reason and the reason is they are a step slow, too small, and to weak. This area has to be improved before any real judgement can be made on Mike.
As for Mike, come on and give the man his due. You watch everygame to see what Mike is going to do next. We as fans have to understand that every week he is not going to be superman. I agree with everyone who believes Knapp needs to go. He is simply aweful. Just let Mike be Mike. He may only play in 12 to 13 games a year, but that is what Schaub is for. Rodney Is going to be stud receiver and Jenkins will be his Alvin Harper. Alge is simple awesome and will get better as those around him get better.
The defense was a huge letdown. With the exception of Hall, Coleman, and Hartwell the rest of the starters are average at best. Brookings is the most overated player in the NFL. Jason Webster could not guard me and I am a 35 year old white guy who runs a 5.0 40. The safety’s are areana league players and have to be changed. We have great depth alond the d-line and I think alot of good young talent, they just need more time to develop.
I love the Falcons and I know the rest of you do to, so lets get off the racist BS and forgt about the guys from NY and think about supporting this team.
I would ask all ATL residents to do me one favor, I live Nashville now so I cannot do it myself, but would someone please start a petition to get Knapp the hell out of town. That guy is causing me to get ulcers.
GOooooooooo…………… Falcons!!!!!

No, Actually i believe Vick would be a hall of Fame tail back. He is faster than Barry Sanders and as elusive as anyone who ever touched the ball.
Why does everyone insist on making him into an average QB who will never be a hall of famer at that position. How many times have great atheletes failed at becoming great qbs and soon disappeared completely.
Vick was a great college quarterback but his talents in the NFL are run..run..run.
Time to face the music and give up the ego. Let Vick do what he is meant to do. Take handoffs and passes from Schaub and leave the defenses breathless.
Oh yeah did I mention that by doing this the Falcons can concentrate on getting the defense straightened out and until they do we can just eat upo the clock.

The difference between Mike Vick and Vince Young, is simple, Young scrambles to by time in the pocket, his first option is pass, then run. Vick scrambles to run. Young is by far a better QB than Vick. If memory serves me correctly Kordell Stewart was once a Pro Bowl QB as well, look at him now, he can’t even make the Ravens roster. I think its time you fairweather Falcon fans come up with a nickname for Mr. Vick. Slash is off the board.

Amen to CK and Rick. KD can you say O.J.? How about the Laker that “allegedly” raped the lady in Denver. I’m tired of the racism and race baiting too. I agree Mv is not the total problem right now, but he and the media have accepted that he is the savior of the franchise. They, and all the “un-biased” total Vick supporters claim that stats mean nothing because “HE” is a winner. Hmm, HE is a winner but THE TEAM and coaches are the losers. Sounds like a double standard to me. IF HE is a winner, then (process of elimination) this year HE was a loser. Kapish???

Dear Randy, Yes I cand say O.J. Can you spell it. Last I checked, the “victim” in Denver panicked when she realized she was in too deep and actually had to testify, not only about the event, but he remarks of his large genitalia to her friends at a party 3 days later. Didn’t appear to be victimized to me or countless others. Don’t let the $$$ jade your mind so much. Since you bought it up. I can’t stand Simpson. However, I don’t believe Goldman was returning sunglassed @ 1130 pm. Neither do I believe a middle aged cripple can slash 2 able bodied young people 40 + times and destroy all material evidence and hide it from one of the largest police forces in the world in a 29 minute crime window. I’m not say he didn’t do it, but I don’t subcribe to the prosectutions “supern*” theory either. Perhaps you’d been better pointing out Rae Carruth. If you’d like to go crime for crime, incident for incident, I’d gladly give you my # or email and we could do that on a slow day. It’s comical how defense of one’s culture is called “race baiting”. I always thought it was “pride”.

The Falcons need help on defense. As noted by many, defense does win games. Mike is a great athlete and a good quarterback. He does need to improve in some areas to be great. My opinion is that he will do just that. Our town is down on anything/body who doesn’t win everything all the time. We need look no further than the annual Braves bashing as evidence of that.

Anther point in favor of moving Vick to tail back…
Look at The greatest NBA player Jordan. This man was far better more taleneted than anyone else in the league. Obviously he needed the ball to score but just his presence made opportunities for his teammates. Did The Bulls make Jordan the point guard….no they created opportunities for him by designing a brilliant offense and playing off the team defense.
The falcons say that vick needs the ball to be effective and by qurterbacking he gets many more opportunites to do his thing. But this has proven out to be wrong.
Vick can screen, run and catch. He just can’t read defenses and find open receivers.
Do what Chicago did with Jordan let someone else distribute the ball so he can concentrate on being the dominate tailback in the NFL

Thanks, Randy… I actually agree w/ you. I think he had help too. There was some talk that Nicole had an affair w/ his son Jason and that’s who did it and Dad was covering for son. Either way it was a tragedy that should’ve never happened. Great spelling by the way. Please stop refering to refering to Schaub and others as cerebral and Vick as dumb. That is some of the most racial crap I’ve seen here. If Schaub was so “cerebral” why was he is jail for battery. Now about his skills. Everybody liked Doug Johnson too. Where’s he at? Schaub looks good because when he’s playing, it doesn’t count….. MV dumb, Please!!! Before you call another NFL player dumb, check out a real NFL playbook. It isn’t ABC = 123….

I heard Brian Finneran on the radio this week…if the Falcons let him walk, I won’t be back at another game for a LONG time. Look what happened last year when we gambled & let some key veterans walk—we got burned big time! You won’t find a more quality receiver for the money, period. Finally, give Vick a break folks, for God’s sake! Yes, it was an off year but give him a line that can pass block & he’ll be better than ever. No quarterback would have chance throwing behind that line—wise up Falcons!! Hope we have better play calling this year, too, let’s play to his srengths. Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a safety like that bruiser Troy P. from Pittsburgh?! And a defensive lineman that will play despite a broken big toe, poor wittle toe. Get another corner to pair with D. Hall & we’re set!! I hope the braintrust is paying attention, come on!!

For the record, I never said MV was dumb. My bone of contention has always been that he needs to think “pass first, run ONLY as a last resort.” Two reasons for this: 1. He will last a lot longer, therefore bring us more championships. 2. His running will be much more effective if the opposition doesn’t see it every third play. As for Doug J. he didn’t pan out at all as he should. Matter of fact, he was the DUMB QB, made some of the worst decisions where to throw the ball. Schaub makes better decisions, but the battery thing… hmmm pretty stupid, if you ask me.

Once again, the idiot redneck white trash morons have deevolved the post into a Vick-bashing melee of epic proportions.
The AJC let’s you non-paying fools blog for this?
Bring back the payed for blogs. At least those of us with the disposable imcome to waste on blogging were / are somewhat intelligent sportsfans.
Yeah, you idiots calling for Schaub were the same calling for Johnson.
How did that work out for you morons?
You think you idiots would learn from past mistakes.
Schaub has only played against second and third string defenses, or defenses decimated by injury (Patriots).
He would not, I repeat for you white trash idiots, would not have done as well playing against the likes of the Chicago first string defense, or the Carolina, or the Tampa Bay, hell, even the Aint’s. Not with that O-line in front of him.
You bunch of redneck morons have no idea what the hell perspective means. I suggest you find out and then get some.
You also are the sorriest bunch of fans I have ever come into contact with, who have no real idea what the game of football is all about, how it works, what goes into it. Once again, you lack all kinds of perspective.

Well, Well, Well… looks like we are in a deep one here. I think that while everyone is entitled to their opinion, there is no room for the racial, prejudical remarks. Michael Vick is a good, and perhaps a great, quarterback in the making. I must say that I agree with him when he said that there were some games that he should have taken over and he didn’t; however, I must agree with those who have already mentioned that in both games with Tampa Bay, the Falcons had a lead that teams with a decent defense would have have kept the lead, therefore, would have given the Falcons two more victories, a 10-6 record, and a ticket to play in the playoffs this year. Rich McKay and Jim Mora need to find a couple of offensive linemen that can pass block in free agency because MV will always be taking too many hits if they don’t. We need not to forget the receivers who for a couple of games caught balls that allowed Vick to have a couple of 300 yard games. As for Vick never having a 3-touchdown passing game in his career, don’t some of you haters remember (evidently, all of you cannot remember) that in about three games where receivers dropped the third and fourth touchdown passes in the endzone? I am a Falcons fan and have been since the days when I started watching football…(Steve Bartkowski-qb, William Andrews-rb, Alfred Jenkins, Alfred Jackson, and Wallace Francis-wrs, Buddy Curry-lb, just to name a few)… and I will continue to be a fan… and if any of you must know- I am a black man.
The Falcons will be fine. They need to answer the questions on the defensive side of the team…(run stoppers especially) and the offensive side of the team… (pass blocking, too conservative play calling at critical times, and making the DVD {Dunn, Vick, Duckett} more potent.
Looking toward the 2006 season. Falcons will be back in the playoffs.

OK enough of the Vick “hero worship” I’ve heard it all but here are a few facts that as Frisco mentioned above the local writers don’t mention about Mike: He has a hell of a time against winning teams (just look at the past two seasons) He has declined in QB rating and completion % the past two years (so this is called progress?) He has been sacked an average of 2.5 times per game amassing almost 900 yards in lost field position) He has fumbled 46 times in 58 games with more than half of those lost to the other team…and I could go on. Frisco is correct that you ahve to go to some of the more main stream media to get an honest assessment of Vick. For those of you who call people who criticize his play haters, there are more facts I could list but will run out of space. He simply does not measure up.

And don’t get me started on this “Vick wins games” The opponents winng % last year was a miserable .330 and Vcik, as a starter, was 0-6 against winning teams this past season. Oh and for those of you who say “It’s not just Vick” try saying teh same thing when the team wins instead of claiming him the reason for their wins but blaming everyone else when they lose. Sure it takes 11 other guys but with Blank mortgaging the rest of his team to sign a Qb who hasn’t measured up on the field yet, be prepared for a larger salary cap hit with each passing seaosn as it becomes more and more difficult to pay other quality players for the team.

The Falcons had a crappy season due to the defense not holding leads, poor pass blocking, injuries to key players, poor tackling in the second half of the season, opposing defenses covering Alge and sitting on Vick’s bootlegs (the Offensive Coordinator should have adjusted more), young receivers and Vick’s poor decision making at times.
Vick does need to mature. He needs to realize that image is game study and perfecting touch on his passes are all important factors in his young professional career. He appears too sensitive to criticism, at times, and this may ultimately stunt his growth. He also disgusted me in that Chicago game, acting as if he were the only person playing in the cold (Vick has been pampered since JR. High and sometimes it still shows). Is he the best QB (Peyton’s 0 for Florida and big-game choking tail ain’t either), no, but he is a very good QB to have if surrounded by other high quality players.
Baby Vick’s problem is a sense of entitlement and immaturity. I did dumb stuff growing up (I spat in someone’s facemask, I got into fights at Mickey D’s after high school games, I drank as an under-aged kid, probably up until my sophomore year of college and yes we drank with girls that were under-aged too!) but the major difference was that there was no media spotlight on me. I had enough common sense not to let my neighbors or mom see me doing stupid things and Marcus should have had that same common sense and realized that as a starting QB at a D-1 school and as the brother of #7, he has everyone looking at him. He(MArcus) has the “Rhett Butler Syndrome”, he frankly doesn’t give a damn.
Falcons should dump Duckett and a late round draft pick for another LB (use Griffith more in passes & short yardage), get Charles Woodson for cheap and convert him to FS (extending his career — the Raiders used him as FS against the Eagles early in the 2005 season — we have a decent young corner coming back from injury), keep Finneran, White and Perkins (the young ones are growing & getting more confidence), get an inexpensive backup for Dunn and spend some money on a safety. We also need to get more aggresive play-calling. No need to make wholesale changes b/c this core was just in the NFC Championship a year ago. Mora needs to coach his players up.
Peace

Never been over here…but I stumbled upon this blog….
If Mike Vick would have been himiself, and stopped trying to impress all of his critics -the Falcons would have made the playoffs. would the have made it to the SuperBowl -Hell to da Naw…but they would have had enough offens to make the playoffs. That defense would have let the little guy from Parkveiw get 250 on them.
Vick needs to keep doing what got him where he is -run after his first two reads. once he gets down the that third read -he is too deep in the DL rush lanes to get anything done.
I too have heard his work ethic is horrible. Sometimes money will do that to a person. Maybe this season was what he needed to get him back on track.
Look for the falcons to make the playoffs this year…..and also -hopefully they will trade Tico Muckett…excuse me -Tico Duckett for something while they still can

Jim, you are an ignorant fool! You do not judge a man by the way he dresses. Michael Vick is the reason the falcons even has a sellout crowd. The defense was very bad this season. Everytime the offense scored, the defense could not stop the other team. Michael Vick is not the whole team. He also is not responsible for his brother’s actions, and he should stand by his brother. That’s his brother you idiots! Michael should not have to pay for his brother’s mistakes, so stop commenting about his brother. The falcons need a better defensive line. Michael, you should do you. Stop worrying about the critics and play the game like you always have, GREAT!

Hi, I am a die-hard Falcons Fan and the Falcons have never had a offensive line that has protected their Quarterback - ask Bartkowski and Chris What-his-name (always had concussions after the game). Michael Vick is the truth - Jim Mora is the truth - Arthur Blank is richer from their hardwork - so, what do the Falcons need in my opinion - they need a kicker who doesn’t crack under pressure - they need an offensive line to protect the quarterback while he is in the pocket (after Vick steps out of the pocket he is gone anyway) - they need our support!!! Thanks, Woods121904

Randy, the DUMB QB / Schaub remarks were made by someone named SUZAN. My response was to her and anyone else with those thoughts. Although we disagree on somethings, you have my respect for your depth in thought. Big B, finally someone with the courage to admit we ARE human. My main sports transgression was being put in to blitz from the corner and take out the QB or bait him to get kicked out. I was small at the time but very fast. I hit this dude on consecutive plays a tad high and late. A malay ensued and we were both ejected. He was an All State QB, I was a 2nd string freshan. We won the game due to his absence. In retrospect, I felt like a cheater, but I did what the coach asked. Anyway, I agree about Woodson, if he’d work with us. If not, Williams from VT over the kid from TX. Unfortunately, the only people who produce results from their backs, are prostitutes. Get Mike some monsters up front. If he fails with adequate protection, I’ll be the first to say so. Duckett and Schaub gotta go, we need the draft picks and money…

A thorough review of Vick facts: You can say that Vick just wins but if you go back over the past two seasons (2004 & 2005) Vick has managed to lead the Falcons to wins against three winning teams in 2004 & went 0-7 against quality opponents in 05 (unless you want to count the hapless Vikes & Fins who stunk up the field the first 8 or 9 games and then finally closed the season on a winning note). While some of the games were close so were a number of the games they won against poor teams. Additionally, Atlanta’s opponent winning % last season was a dismal .330 which aided them immensely in their seeding for the play offs where they were exposed miserably by the Eagles. This season they vaulted to a early 6-2 record thanks again to the poor quality of their opponents the first 8 weeks of the season and once they hit the second half where they begin to play winning teams they fell flat on their face. Given this, I don’t think the argument of Atlanta’s record really is a justification.
1. He has managed to drop in QB rating & completion percentage each year within the past three seasons. 2. He has been sacked an average of 2.5 times per game amassing almost 900 yards in lost field position. 3. He has fumbled 46 times in 58 games and lost more than half of those fumbles to the other team. 4. He also has no improvement in his TD/interception performance throwing for only 12 more TD’s than interceptions. And I could go on but… So for all of you who think Vick is “it” the facts don’t lie. Until he stops believing the press and dedicates himself to the game he will do nothing but bankrupt the team with his high salary cap numbers for years to come.

As I stated in my previous post, there are TOO many unintelligent, bigoted and ignorant fans in this city. These individuals continue to blame Vick for all the problems of this team. I admit he could have played better. But, if you are a REAL fan you look at this TEAM as a sum of its parts. The OL, DL, and secondary are below average. Especially the OL. No QB in this league would survive behind this line. Both offensive and defensive schemes are suspect. The play calling was average at best against bad teams and atrocious against the good ones. Coaching, a lack of talent on the OL and secondary and no imagination on offense crippled this team. If you were a REAL fan you would have noticed this. Until these issues are resolved the Falcons level of success will be limited. With that said, I still remain a loyal fan. I’ve been watching them too long to give up now. For all the ingnorant/bigoted fans, please jump off of the bandwagon. Make room for the REAL Falcon fans.

Well, I was here last night when all of this started. In a perverse way, it is nice to see that the point I made at midnight has been unwittingly supported about fifty times since then. It really is good to be right.
Let me leave you all with this parting thought…I REALLY do wish Matt Schaub was the QB for the Falcons. And that wish has nothing to do with his playing ability. I would simply like to be able to post a criticism of WHOEVER is taking the snaps without being told that I need to go pick up my hood and cape from the dry cleaner by someone who is simultaneously preaching tolerance. That is just sad.
Oh…one more thing…please at least TRY to read and UNDERSTAND a post before you jump on somebody with both feet.

I’ve never been hurt by someone with baggy pants, or Hip-Hop songs on their ipods….How ever my retirement plans and those of the coming generations have been completely destroyed by people in suits and ties (i.e. Enron, CEOs, Plant closings by big companies while upper management keep the perks and Politicians to name a few). Sure those baggy pants look funny how ever they are not the ones destroying the economy and well being of everyone in this country. Its the Suits and Tie crowd (black or white)!

What was Michael Vick supposed to say at that moment. “My stupid as brother not only messed up his Football career, but is completely f*ing up mine, since now I have to answer these question. I wish I never had a brother to tell you the truth.” IT’S HIS BROTHER PEOPLE, SOME PEOPLE STAND BY FAMILY NO MATTER WHAT. I would have been surprised and actually worried if he had said anything different.

Seems to me I once heard a quote about judging people on the content of their character. I think that philosophy bodes well both on and off the field. Professionalism is a lifestyle, not a job. I don’t hate Mick Vick, but I think his achievements on the field are overstated while his achievements off the field are in question at best. I haven’t heard word one about Warrick Dunn as an example of a professional. Time for Mike Vick to take a lesson from his teammates, “sun natured or not” an step up as a man as well as an athlete. Maybe a more businesslike attitude toward his profession would earn him the salary he commands.

What about George Foster, the Denver Right Tackle? He went to school in Macon and UGA, he has a mean streak bu the is a class individual, with the exception of that illegal chop block last year that broke someone’s leg. He is a good guy, I know him. Get him to block Mike’s backside and then use the number one pick on a big nasty lineman for the left side and make Schaffer rotate

First off, Mr. Dunn is my favorite player and has been since FSU. I’m amazed at his accomplishments on and off the field. His mother must be beaming. I’ve only heard Vick’s work ethic called into question on AJC.com, rarely elsewhere. I have heard about his extra time in the off season watching films and seeking advice from other successful people. I’ve never seen him berate a fellow teammate on the field, in print, or television. I’ve seen him discuss something or get animated, mostly about mistakes he’s made. He’s constantly deferring to the TEAM concept. Perhaps if he deviated from that from time to time, we’d have seen a few more wins this year. He even admits that in retrospect.

Both the Vicks are slugs! Both need to be behind bars pulling time, a long time in jail. They are imposters. Michael has no business in the NFL. He is too small and stupid also. He is one of the main reasons the flacons didn’t win that many last season. His brother Marcus is as stupid as Mike is. Driving while drinking in Virginia, a major DUI fine. Involved with girls under the age. I would have shot the sucker, had it been my daughter! Speeding in his home town. No license. Pulling a loaded gun on teenagers at the Mickey Dees in Suffolk Va. Not saying how he played or lack there of in the gator bowl. Stomping on the man’s calf while he was down. It is a wonder that one of the other team’s players didn’t jack his jaw for it. One did approach him and said something to the fool. Too bad the officials didn’t see the stomp like all the folks did on TV.
Virginia Tech was correct in every respect in booting him from the team. He will not be missed at all. Too bad they waited this long to do it.
Good Bye to Marcus and lets hope the Falcons will say Good Bye to Michael as well!!!!

I’ve always liked the Vick boys. They make a mean vapo-rub. Makes you feel better in a hurry. Now, accusations of rape, consorting, weapons, drugs, driving on a suspended license, passing std’s, and using an alias - those are not the traits of upstading citizens - whether or not they can run with a ball. If the Vick boys are black, green, or blue they need to get their acts together if they want to be anything in the community rather than thugs. In ATL, unortunately, they are less the oddity than in times past. With the loss of our auto manufacturing plants the city’s main industry may now be hip-hop so we best get used to the look Mike gives us. Cover it with a helmet and no one knows the difference. If he wins, he’s a hero. If he loses, he has a bad work ethic. Maybe he’s just paid so much money he doesn’t care. Arthur has a lot invested. Hope he gets a return. It was a simpler time when we had William Andrews as a star and everyone loved him. Too bad, William hit the hard times. Dunn is the gentleman on the team akin to Nobis in the 60’s.

Trying to comeback to sports dialogue since this is a SPORTS blog and not a racial relations one………I think one of the biggest problems the Falcons have is that McKay has allowed Mora to transplant his 49ers players and staff to the Falcons. I understand loyalty, but this is ridiculous, plus this is a business. Our secondary is littered with San Francisco players, and so is the coaching ranks of the Falcons. There’s a reason why the 49ers are stinking up the west coast (same name as our great offensive scheme). Mora is only in his second year and in his first we went to the Championship game, so he probably gets minimum 2 years more to see what he can do (we hired a rookie head coach, we have to deal with his ups and downs), but the rest of the 49ers castaways, have to be removed from the team, hopefully starting with Knapp’s. How are the Falcons supposed to get better when instead of acquiring good players from good team, we just take the garbage that has sunk the 49ers. McKay please wake up and stop stealing 49ers personnel, there’s a reason why they are so easy to acquire.

David, you should go look at the Thrashers blogs then, there it’s a North vs. South discussion, very little hockey. Welcome to the South if its not the Civil War —north vs. South— then its Race —black vs. white, we don’t really argue about latinos and asians we love our classic battles—. But we have to argue about something god forbid it would be about sports.

I really get confused by the whole “You’re racist/I’m not racist” debate that goes on whenever the subject of Michael Vick is brought up. It’s not as if Vick is a great quarterback. He isn’t. Why would anyone of any color go to such lengths to defend a guy who makes a ton of money and does whatever he wants? It’s not as if Number 7 is going to show up at your door and hand you some money. That’s the way I look at it. I think people on both sides of the “racial divide” just like to battle it out and other people get sucked into it. There are always going to be racists out there. None of us can prevent that. However, we can do our best to ignore them and, with any luck, learn to accept that most criticisms against a person of a different color are not based on color.

Actually i think Vick did have one game this past year where he threw 3tds. The team should have won 11 games but the defense gave up 2 games to Tampa and 1 to Green Bay. Yea the o line stunk this year and last year but the difference is the defense was good last year so they actually won the team a few games. I like Schaub but how many games has he won? I see people are still bringing up the Patriots game but guess what happened in that game, THE DEFENSE SUCKED. You put any other qb behind that line and with that defense and they dont win 5 games . Vince Young better than Vick? Are you serious? Scouts are saying he should stay in college because he has a weaker arm than Vick and always operates out of the shot gun so he will have a hard time adjusting to the nfl style. The guy wins a big game in his junior year and people on here are making him a all pro qb already. I think he will be a avg qb honestly. He has a weak arm, worse mechanics than Vick, and is probably more inacurate than Vick. So explain to me how he is better because im going to enjoy this one. Until this team gets some o line help and some safties i think its going to be another tough year. Like it was said earlier it is amazing how great qbs look when they face pressure ( Manning,Brady). Vick is probably blitzed more than anybody in the league. Its hard to read a defense or make a good throw when as soon as you hike the ball a defender is in your face. I guess you so called fans would rather have Doug Johnson back or them other trash qbs we have had in the past.

Yes, please explain Vicks rap sheet. He’s been accused of a civil matter which has yet to be resolved. Take note how one points out a “classy” black male while he berates two others. Similar to somebody who’s accused of being racist pointing out that he’s got “black” friends. I reiterate Mike Vick has been an outstanding leader for the team and in time you’ll see. I think it is interesting that MV defends his brothers troubling lifestyle. He says Marcus did nothing wrong but yet everyone saw what he did in the bowl game. What about his earlier troubles? Supplying alcohol to minors(he admitted to this in court),giving the Bird to WVA fans, and elbowing a coach on the opposing teams sidelines. He is also charged with driving on suspended license.I wonder when he will do something wrong in his brothers eyes? If MV were doing these things while a Falcon I believe the powers that be would run him off, as they should. I hope the Falcon’s don’t waste a pick on him we have enough thugs of all colors in Atl.

Fact is we have no idea what Dunn would do in the same situation. Also Marcus is awaiting his trial, his brother admitting to a bunch of reporters that his brother did anything wrong, would be like a Christmas gift to the prosecution.
an aside: what do you guys think of the new QB coach? I don’t know much about him, does he know like the rest of us that Vick is not a good fit in the West coast offense? Hope he does. I hope he takes Knapp aside and informs him that Vick has not mastered the art of a touch pass so STOP for all that is holy doing quick slant until Vick learns that. And shows him some stats from when Reeves was here to illustrate that Vick has a cannon for an arm, so lets try some Long passes, via bootlegs, 7 step drops, anything to utilize his arm.

You cats are hilarious! MC what does “Homie” mean is this supposed to be synonymous with black? Hokie, just because they are “two black kids from the slums” doesn’t excuse them from being responsible men with good work ethics. Almost every pro baller (black & white) seems to have come from meager backgrounds, that kind of makes them work harder. Yes I admit it can be overwhelming to get a lot in a short period of time but as a black man, that asinine thinking is insulting. I grew up in a middle-class upbringing, definitely no slum and in retrospect, I would have probably been a stone-cold idiot with all of that money at an early age. I was a irresponsible fool with no money or car, so I know I would have been “off the chain”. Rich/Rick, you dumb phuck, when you make racist comments about us being better athletes, that perpetuates the ignorant stereotype that all blacks can be is athletic. Pete, What trouble has Michael really been in off of the field? Ok, Mr. Mexico “may” be one of the 10 million or so US citizens with the BIG H but “if” he has it, he even had to have contracted it somewhere, as well. I would put money on the fact that someone on this blog has the Big H, would they be bad? Jay, I agree with you, Mikey doesn’t seem too bright, irrespective, ol’ boy can play some ball, let’s put in positions to win, give a Defense and I believe he can get it done. Tampa and Baltimore won Bowls with SUbpar QBs (of whom, none can hold Mikey’s jock — not that they would want to with the Big H and all):-} By the way, you mentioned your daughter, if that were your daughter, why not go after her lying about her age azz? The charge on Marcus was for providing alcohol to underage girls. I don’t believe he forced the drinks on them and he definitely didn’t force sex on them. One of the gals got busted by mommy and spilled the beans. Besides he was like 19 & the girl was approximately 17. Get a grip folk!
In conclusion, Vick does need to dress up more for special events, he’ll probably change as he ages. He probably needs to work on his throwing touch. If I were a rich 20 something and not a lame 33 year old, I would probably wear gray sweats, except for press conferences. After I met up with my receivers to throw the rock around in the mornings. I would speed around in my Porsche or Ferrari, up & down 400 picking up girls from Lenox. I would be at the Hawks and Braves games with a different model chick or R&B girl every game, I would have my own sections at the Body Tap & Magic City and all of this would only be during the off-season. During the season and training times I would be practicing, watching film and workingout…ONLY!
I wish that we could keep Schaub b/c he is a reliable backup, with a good grasp of the Falcons offense. Unfortunately, he possesses too many skills and he wants to display them and Teams probably want him. I think he could be effective in Miami or Arizona. Just dreaming: Duckett, Schaub & money for Antrell Rolle and late round pick.
Peace — What up KD?

Big B, you saved me alot of writing. By no means do I excuse anything any man does wrong. I just think that circumstances are different for everyone. Based on my upbringing, (broken home, lower middle class) my siblings and I were supposed to be some of THOSE statistics. We aren’t, we’re pretty happy and successful. I owe it to my parents and us looking out for each other. I always thought that GOD saved me by not making me rich at a young age. I’d probably done something stupid. I have much respect for those who can live under that kind of microscope. Now, I’ve got some bad news for all those who hate the Vick brothers. I guarantee that Schaub gets traded and Marcus is signed if he’s available in a later round. I’m sure it’s already been discussed. Also, I believe Mike was referring to the gun incident regarding his brothers innocence. I ask all of you, if a mob was screaming vulgarities at you repeatedly, what would your response be? Ferguson won’t fall to 15. Oakland will solve there QB problem (temp) with Brooks w/ Walters waiting to take over. Perhaps someone would swap if we through in Duckett and picked up a back in the later rounds. Let me get this straight, speaking out and responding to bigotry is racist????? People who put themselves in the public eye, and in fact make their living on it, take the good with the bad. Common sense reveals that. Dig, dig, dig that hole…. with every post you make.

David, any we could get Ferguson would be a blessing. I’ve heard the Jets may be willing to move because they’re interested in the QB from Vanderbilt…

Oh yeah they have that spaghetti armed Pennington, and actually have no RB since Curtis Martin looks to be on his way out….This is never happening, but its nice to dream that we could draft a stud tackle this year. I guess then DB is the way to go then. I like what I saw out of Jimmy Williams, but come on we already have enough VT players, so I don’t know about him, maybe Huff out of Texas then?

To all of the neg. people who are adding there comments….Ask yourself or better yet look back on your life to see if you ever played MAJOR COLLEGE OR PRO FOOTBALL. I have and it is hard. Mike vick is doing something that all former football player WISH that they were doing. His Career is a Pro Football Player and he is making MILLIONS doing it. Everyone can’t do that job. I know personally that Pro Football is hard. Mike continue what you are doing and I will see you next year in the Playoffs…..of course I will be in the stands where it is safe. 1 love

MR VICK MUST BE A REAL STAR I HAVENT SEEN A BLOG FEEL UP THIS FAST IN A LONG TIME. HOW DOES ANY SANE PERSON TRADE A MAN THAT TOOK A NO NAME COLLEGE PROGRAM TO A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. BUILT THAT PROGRAM INTO A POWER HOUSE BY HIMESELF. THE COACHES WERE THERE 10 OR 15 YEARS BEFORE VICK GOT THERE. TOOK A LOSING TEAM TO A SNOWY PLAYOFF GAME IN LAMBEAU FIELD. FIRST TIME THATS EVER HAPPENED. IN HIS INJURED YEAR WON 3 OF 4 GAMES. TOOK HIS TEAM THE NEXT YEAR TO A NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. AND HAD ONE SUBPAR SEASON IN HIS LIFE. THE ORGANIZATION BANKED ON THE FALCONS BEING DEEP IN THE PLAYOFFS IN 3 YEARS. THIS YEAR THEY SACRIFICED A COUPLE OF VETS, A COUPLE OF WINS, FOR THE BETTERMENT OF WINNING THE BIG ONE. SAUB IS A VERY GOOD CHEAP BACK UP. THEY WONT BE ABLE TO KEEP HIM BECAUSE SOME GM WILL LOOK OVER HIS WEAK ARM AND LOOK AT HIS 3 OR 4 STARTS AND GIVE HIM ALOT OF MONEY. ITS SILLY TO COMPARE MICHEAL TO ANY OF THE MANNIGS. NEITHER HAS EVER TOOK A TEAM ANYWHERE AND NEVER WILL. BEFORE THIS YEAR VICK HAD MORE PLAYOFF WINS THEN PEYTON HASSELBACK, AND LITTLE ELI. WE GET OUR PRESSURE IN BACK IN BRADY THE RUN DEFENSE WILL GET DRAMATICALLY BETTER. WE GET ATLEAST ONE OF OUR REAL NICKLE BACKS BACK AND FINE A REPLACEMENT FOR JASON WEBSTER WE GET DRAMATICALLY BETTER IN THE PASSING GAME. WE DRAFT A SAFETY AND MOVE BRIAN SCOTT BACK TO HIS NATURAL SAFETY SPOT OR FIND A SECOND SAFETY IN THE DRAFT OUR DEFENSE MOVES FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE PACK TO A TOP 10 DEFENSE. HIRE ALEX GIBBS FULL TIME AS OFF. LINE COACH. AND LET RICH MC KAY PLUG UP OUR OTHER HOLES AND WORK THE SALARY CAP GUESS WHAT WE ARE A YOUNG TEAM WITH A WINNER AT QUATERBACK AND A STADIUM FULL OF CRAZY FANS YELLING AND SCREAMING. IM NOT A GM BUT I KNOW TALENT. IN MORA, MCKAY, AND BLANK I FEEL LIKE IM IN GOOD HANDS. PS MARCUS IS A CRAZY DUDE

I’ve been a longtime Falcons fan, but for some time now I’ve also been removed from the city of Atlanta - in fact, I live, sadly enough, in Favre country. From time to time I gaze at these blogs just to plug into a world where people can speak of something other than cheese. And today, sadly, I’m appalled at what I’ve seen. People can speak all they want about racism - but it’s never as simple as black and white. Race just doesn’t operate in such explicitly obvious ways in this country anymore. The very fact that race has been such a recurring theme on these blogs suggests that it does matter. It’s no coincidence that black quarterbacks must establish themselves as “pocket passers” before they’re taken seriously.
Vick’s performance this year, while admittedly uneven at times, was certainly not the primary source of the Falcons’ problems. He performed admirably well both games against the Bucs - the NFL’s best defense, right? - and managed to win with more than just his arm against the Jets and others. The problems were many: most importantly, no safeties; recurring injuries at defensive end and nickle corner, not to mention almost crippling ones at middle linebacker and punt/kick returner; too much youth at outside linebacker and wide receiver; and of course, poor pass protection schemes (anyone see Manning when he didn’t have protection two weeks ago?).
Anytime a football team loses, or at least fails to meet expectations, the scrutiny will understandably be on the quarterback. But the very issues which certain folks have raised here today - not only about skin color, but by certain words like ‘homies’ or ‘thugs’ - suggest the problem lies not with Vick’s arm, but with many of those who continue to criticize it.
Did anyone else notice that the Falcons began losing when Vick’s stats improved the second half of the season? It takes more than a quarterback to win OR lose in this league.

TO: SUZOOLAND, BLONDIE and PAUL.
1st SUZOOLAND. I think you have had a little to much booze are something. You can’t claim that Schaub is a better QB than Vick. Where is the proof for that statement? Give me proof or give Vick some justice. You can’t prove it. No Proof exist. So get out of here with that bull and that goes for anybody else that thinks Schaub is a better QB.
2nd BLONDIE. Get Real. Take some history lessons and know what’s real and what’s not.
3rd Paul. I hate people that has to bring negativity to every positive point. Vicks is a winner and that’s the end of the story. It doesn’t matter about who is defeated just that they were defeated. If you were true to yourself, I think you would realize that. Vick is still considered to be a young QB. I wonder what you are going to say when this young QB wins a SUPERBOWL. Please tell me what you will say then.

It’s good to see you believe in racial equality. Your comments though are devoid of any facts and can not be taken seriously. The Foulcons were 8 and 8 this year. Most of the blame belongs to Vick. He is not an effective quarterback and his statistics, as well as the team record, attest to that fact. Yelling at people because you homey can’t cut it is not going to make him any better. Schaub is the best QB on the team and he’ll get the opportunity to prove it soon. Vick will play his way out of the lineup and off the team and right out of the league. Schaub’s race doesn’t factor into this. He’s a great passer and Vick is not. Simple as your IQ!

I know that you hate a black man makes so much money. That’s because you hate blacks. Well, guess what. Go to Hell because that’s were you’re heading. Haters do not go to HEAVEN they go to HELL. I can tell you are a young boy that knows nothing. You can’t get rid of what GOD made. How can we (blacks) try and take over everything. I’m sun-natured and Indian Red and I’ve never tried to take over anything. Boy you need to learn your on dumb @ss history. You’re actually talk about yourself and you’re own people. Now, who’s your daddy? The thugs I know landed here a very long time ago. Guess what, they need to take there @ss back home because this is my (Indian Red) land. In case you don’t get it, I’m mixed.

This page isnt about RACE….Its about Falcons football! RIGHT! The people that are arguing about race needs to get GONE..Some of the post I’ve seen shows the inmaturity of a great deal. We all want the same thing..A good football team. Lets keep it football. We all have our own opinions of how it should go, but it is a TEAM game.

Hey Jean,
I don’t think any athlete is worth millions!!! They play a GAME!!!! Color has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately the game has become big business!!! All the fun has become a matter of money: TV contracts, endorsements, salary caps. The TEAM concept and honor among competitors has been replaced with the Jerry McGuire movie quote: “Show me the money.”
It has ruined baseball and basketball and is now hitting football even down to the college level. Ask hockey fans about money’s affect on the game.
I’m 55 and no longer watch much sports at any level because all I see is the cancer that has invaded every level and has taken the fun out of the raw, simple competition of playing a “GAME.”

The only one whom is a coward is the one who feels it is necisary to assume someone else’s name for whatever reason.
The only one whom is a coward is the the one who wants to insult and hide behind aliases and anonymous pen names.
If you are not man enough to stand behind what you say, then shut your mouth and say nothing at all.
Or stay the way you are… a pitiful excuse of a man… or woman.

hey dboy, i get it now. i have been a supporter of vick through the season but at times i just didnt think he was into the game, kinda blank in the eyes. he looked that way going into the chicago game. now, is that from doing the weed like all of them do or what. for 130 mil he better stay clean and look a little less laid back when he straps on the helmet or other people will begin to wonder as well.
you sure did make your point and help out your boys. it aint being judgmental because anybody can smoke weed i really dont care but not when you are the franchise. you have to play by that rule or the cards fall. at that point you can make the rules but with a lot less change. we got it babe.

Yep… I used to be “young and dumb” just like a lot of these negative bloggers… We once called for the benching of Steve Bartkowski because June Jones looked better in the preseason; not realizing that Jones looked better because he was playing against third-string rookies. Some “fans” even booed Bart.
Coaches wanted to teach Bart a lesson in leadership, so they did bench him, and June Jones was opening day starter… We won the debut… then things went badly… By week three, Jones was struggling and Bart got his starting job back.
The most popular guy in town is always the back-up quarterback. He lives on “potential” and rarely gets the chance to screw up. So the fantasy grows and grows.
Against the Bucs, Matt Shaub came in for one play - after Vick had been injured by a Booger McFarland cheap shot - and didn’t have time to get his pass off… He was hit by Simeon Rice, and fumbled the ball away for a Tampa Bay defensive touchdown…
Funny how nobody remembers that. The offensive line and defense got punked that day… But Vick passed for 300 yards.
Peace.

I remember when Schaub gave up the safety. I remember when the coaches punted on 4th and 2 in overtime. I remember when Knapp called the same play twice in a row and lost both of them. I remember when Peerless Price was returning kicks for the Cowboys, then he got cut. I remember that Dan Reeves had more losing seasons than winning ones. In fact, all of the Falcons coaches did. I remember the day that Vick got drafted. I remember the Minnestota overtime game where MV7 ran 50 yards the winning touchdown. I remember how the Falcons did when Vick broke his leg (2-10) and how they did when he came back (3-1). I remember going to the Conference Championship last year. I remember when 8-8 was a good year for the Falcons.
