Quoting the press release: “The Miami Heat announced today that Stan Van Gundy has resigned as head coach due to personal and family reasons.� So why is everybody in an uproar? That’s accurate. If Van Gundy didn’t resign, he would have been fired and replaced by Pat Riley, anyway, thereby causing both him and his family public humiliation. So he resigned to avoid both.
Bad things happen to good people. This was one of them. Van Gundy deserves better and any NBA team looking for a head coach should look at him. This is all about Pat Riley and his ego and wanting to get back to the bench.
That said, Riley can coach. When I covered the Lakers in Los Angeles, many nationally viewed him as overrated because of the talent he had to work with (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Norm Nixon, Jamal Wilkes, James Worthy, et. al). In truth, he was underrated for the same reason. Few gave him credit. But this still stinks.

Jim Mora said Michael Vick (sore ribs) is fine and will practice Wednesday and play at Chicago. I’ve certainly got no reason to doubt him when it comes to an injury report. Um, what did that press release say again?
I’m assuming Arthur Blank and Bob McNair don’t go to the same business seminars.
Blank didn’t like the power structure in the Falcons’ organization. Dan Reeves lost much of his power over personnel and eventually was fired as coach. McNair didn’t like the way things were going with in the Texans’ organization, so he has hired Reeves as a consultant. So I guess this means he’s not an idiot, anymore. Here’s wishing Reeves good luck. He deserved a better fate than he got here.

Does Dennis Felton get a bonus if he finishes with a better record than Paul Hewitt?
Michael Vick is now 3-0 on Monday night. Past Falcons quarterbacks: 6-18.

Yeah baby! Go Falcons. The other day Arthur Blank said he would do “whatever it takes” to make sure our Falcons improve next year! I’m hoping that means we’re going for TO. (As long as he understands that Vick is the indisputable team leader)He’s a playmaker and he’d fit in well with our Falcons because, face it, our Falcons have attitudes… and I love it!!! If we could get him for a couple of million, that’d be a major steal!

Does TO play safety or on the defensive line? The last thing this team needs is another receiver. Give me last year’s defense with Chris Draft, Ed Jasper and Travis Hall and this year’s Falcons team has nine or ten wins instead of seven…

I agree with PC. I think the talents of Ed Jasper and Travis Hall (and the injured Brady Smith) were underestimated. I don’t necessarily think they miss Draft that much because the Falcons problems are not with LB. They have not been getting as much pressure up front as they did last year. They led in sacks a year ago, but have had games where the recorded zero sacks. That’s a problem. And the safeties absolutely suck at tackling. They haven’t gotten torched deep or in coverage as much as you’d think, but they can’t tackle at all. Hell I’d take a shot at Demorrio Williams at SS and see if they can’t toughen up the secondary. Regardless, the #1 focus of the draft needs to be a hard hitting safety (Greg Blue or Mike Huff from Texas) or adding depth to the defensive line. But safety first.

PC is dead on. The reason the Falcons aren’t quite what they were last year is solely due to our D.

can we win in Chicago though? I think we will since the Bears offense is horrific—Vick will make a couple plays and we sneak out 13-10 win. Go Falcons !
