The Tuesday Countdown
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
10: Didn’t blog last Tuesday. There’s no excuse. Just send me $5.95 for postage and handling, and I’ll get you your refund check.
9: I think I represent the vast majority of non-hardcore NASCAR fans when I say the two biggest things that would attract me to the sport are: 1) crashes; 2) drivers saying nasty things about each other and, in some cases, throwing their helmets at each other.
8: Given the above, NASCAR is blowing it by trying to snuff out all of this fun stuff and fining and admonishing drivers.
7: Word is that Bill Romanowski is coming out with a book in which he may admit use of performance enhancing drugs. You know, this could be part of a “Things I Did” series. Romanowski can be followed by Mark McGwire, who can be followed by Rafael Palmeiro, then Barry Bonds, then Sammy Sosa…
6: The Thrashers should push to get Ilya Kovalchuk signed to a one-year contract while they continue trying to negotiate a long-term deal. The clock is ticking down to the opener.
5: Flew on a Delta flight this morning. The plane had wings, a pilot and everything. But I was a little put off when the flight attendant offered complimentary drinks, peanuts and stock.
4: Michael Vick — hamstring. Reggie Ball — viral meningitis. Pardon D.J. Shockley if he’s tiptoeing around campus this week.
3: I know the Falcons and Tech say Vick and Ball have a shot at playing. But when I hear “hamstring,” I think, “Out at least a week, maybe two.” When I hear meningitis, I’m not even thinking about football.
2: Flipped channels last night. There were two shows devoted entirely to what people wore to the Emmy Awards. Great value system. And we wonder why SAT scores are low.
1 By the way, Eva Longoria looked hot in the tight little orange thingy.

Jeff, for some of us, hockey (#6) and NASCAR (#9) are interchangeably boring. Though throwing a helmet at a zamboni doesn’t arouse much interest.
I’m being sincere when I say I hope Reggie Ball recovers completely.

From this Dawg fan to all y’all Bugs…
I wouldn’t wish that on my most hated rival, not even Reggie Ball. I’m sure most of y’all would have rather it happened to Gailey, though, huh?
Look at the preseason, Jeff. Without Ilya, we’re crap. I think he’s just sitting in Russia right now, knowing he has all the leverage. Waddell… DO SOMETHING!
God, I hope Schaub doesn’t start. I like the guy, and if he has to start behind that piece of crap line, without Vick’s speed to get away, the Falcons just might set a record for most sacks in a single game. We’re talking worse than David Carr here.

Jeff, I only do C.O.D. But the Thrashers need to sign Ilya pronto. Here’s the deal they should offer him.
Year One: $3.5 Million Year Two: $4.5 Million Year Three: $5.5 Million Year Four: $6.5 Million Year Five: $7.5 million Year Six: $7.5 million
If Ilya says “no” to that, it means he doesn’t want to play in Atlanta. And if that’s the case, GM Waddell should start seeking a king’s ransom for Kovalchuk in a trade.
Take the Bills over Schaub and the Falcons this Sunday.

Well Earl, you just put the label of uninformed and ignorant yokel squarly on your shoulders, and the dreaded right-handed, thumb and index finger on your forehead.
How ‘bout you go see a game or two, Earl. I guarantee if you do, and you learn about the game, you’ll enjoy it like no other.
I guarantee it.
But, then again, with a name like Earl, I’m guessing you’re just happy watching cars go ‘round a circle with a Bud in your hand.

It honestly does hurt me when someone disrespects hockey so much. I don’t get it. You don’t have to love sports, that’s fine. But liiking sports and hating hockey? That’s incomprehensible. See it. Watch it. Understand it. Love it.

Maybe so, Mearl. But it sure was nice going a whole year without having hockey highlights to muck up sportscenter every night. I think there are more people who will miss hockey’s absence than there were who missed hockey.
