Whitewater Pulling Back
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
This past Tuesday the wildcats had to travel the hour and half to Westlake for another game! Whitewaters confidence was still down form the big loss to rival Starrs Mill and only got lower when the raiders scored right of the bat. With the score being 1-0 all the way up until only have three minutes left the cats were already accepting the loss. When a sweet shot by number 22, Ryan Pugh, put them into a tie situation. The crowd was preparing for a shootout when Sophmore Ian Michele took a shot. The ball slowly rolled into the goal with 10 seconds left on the clock! The wildcats take the victory! Go Cats!

Whitewater Varsity Boys Undefeated
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
On Tuesday of this week the Whitewater boys varsity soccer team traveled to Marietta High School to take on the Blue Devils. With so much energy already flowing, the boys took the field. They played hard from the begining, never letting up. Chandler Caudelle had a great game and ended it having a hat trick! Andy DeBusk helped out the score by adding one more goal. Robbie Zeider, Victor Murray, and Andy DeBusk had great assists also. They did their best to not let Marietta score and came out with a 4-0 win! The wildcats travel to Marist this weekend for another battle! Way to go cats!

The dream ends in dramatic fashion
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Sometimes, falling just a bit short can hurt more than getting blown out.
The Bulldogs lost 26-24 to Carver’s magical fourth quarter comeback.
Chamblee jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 64-yard by Darius Jones. A few timely penalties and turnovers helped Chamblee escape with a 10-6 lead at the intermission.
The Bulldogs owned the third quarter. Chamblee scored twice in the third to take a 24-6 lead, one 3-yard by Warren Norman and a 16-yard rush by Malcolm Beyah.
Still trailing by 18 points with about six minutes to go, Carver launched the fireworks. They began with a quick drive that ended in a 2-yard run by Furr and a failed two-point attempt.
The tiger executed an onside kick perfectly to get the ball back immediately. They proceeded to drive right down the field once again and get a full eight points to make it 24-20 Chamblee.
The Bulldogs finally got the ball back but could get little going. After seemingly going three and out, Chamblee temporarily spoiled the Tigers momentum by carrying out a fake punt for a fresh set of downs. But after two blown rushing attempts, Garrett William’s third down pass attempt fell incomplete after Warren Norman stumbled over a referee.
The Tigers obtained ball once more with enough time to put together another quick striking drive. After initially moving the ball well, Carver floundered around the 50-yard line and dug themselves into a fourth and long situation. That is when Foreston made a game saving grab to put the Tigers on the 7-yard line. Furr scored the go-ahead touchdown two plays later to smash Chamblee’s championship aspirations.
Carver just seemed like the team destined to move on to the finals. Between Warren Norman falling over the referee and Carver’s otherworldly onside kick, Carver obtained the breaks they needed to become victorious. However, the win was not just good luck. The Tigers showed why they are so dangerous by posting big play after big play. Also, Carver continually went to “the living mismatch”, Jarmon Foreston, when they needed answers. Foreston ended up with 222 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Chamblee offense stalling in the fourth quarter proved costly. By letting up off the gas, Chamblee’s usually relentless offense gave Carver a chance to steal the momentum and put together one last effort. This momentum proved to be overwhelming when Chamblee was stuffed on its last real drive.
Although it will not be easy to forget, this semifinal loss should not take away anything from Chamblee’;s terrific season. The Bulldog’s coaching staff did a phenomenal job with preparation and motivation all season. Special recognition needs to go to the great play calling of head coach Jim Showfety which one Chamblee quite of few games. Most of all, the players, especially the seniors, need to be congratulated for taking all of Chamblee on an exciting ride.

Chamblee domes it up
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Well, they can’t all be pretty.
The Bulldogs rolled past the Westover Patriots 41-26 in a game that was much closer than it should have been. Chamblee handicapped themselves by fumbling five times, four of which lead to Westover touchdowns. The Bulldog’s Defense picked up the offense’s slack. The Chamblee Defense made critical stops such as causing and retrieving a momentum-shifting goal line fumble.
Running back Warren Norman is putting up scary numbers up right now. Norman added another 200-yard performance against the Patriots complemented by a whopping five rushing touchdowns. In the playoffs, Norman is averaging 186 yards per game and almost four touchdowns per contest. Those stats are borderline unreal.
In more groundbreaking news, Chamblee will be making its first trip to the semifinals in 42 years. Chamblee will face the highly talented 13-0 Carver Columbus Tigers. Anchored by Auburn committed quarterback DeRon Furr, Carver Columbus had not been tested much this season until last week against Carrolton where they escaped 14-7. Chamblee will need to use their clock eating running game to keep the dangerous Carver Columbus Offense off the field as much as possible.
Another interesting factor is the experience aspect. Carver Columbus has played on this exact stage before. Although several members of the Bulldog’s coaching staff have coached in the dome, Chamblee players have never been this deep into the playoffs. Coach Showfety and crew are trying to make sure intimidation will not plague the Bulldogs, but this is certainly a new experience.
Chamblee students will be let out early for the game, so I believe that there will be a huge student turnout. Even students who have never attended a football game in their life are going just to get out of school early. It will be an exhilarating atmosphere for sure. I would not be surprised if it gets emotional, since Chamblee fans were spoiled this season with some fantastic victories this season.

Lovett Squeaks by the Bulldogs
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Lions departed Thursday night toward Thomasville on a long, dreary bus ride. The emotions of Friday night’s game were the exact opposite. This thrilling gridiron battle ended in victory for the well-rested Lions.
In the early goings, Thomasville appeared to have the edge controlling time of possession, yardage, and red zone defense. Well into the 2nd quarter the Lions found themselves in a 13-0 hole. But, quickly that changed with the leadership of Andre Hicks. Flipping into the endzone late in the 2nd quarter, Andre Hicks started to swing momentum back toward Lovett’s side.
After a scoreless third quarter, it appeared that once again Thomasville had control, but once again Andre Hicks had the answer. Rushing for over 60 yards on the drive, including a 41 yard burst down the sideline, Lovett gained the lead for the first time with 9 minutes to go. When a Michael Steele punt pinned the Bulldogs inside their own ten with less than 2 minutes to go it seemed the game was over. But, avoiding multiple near-sacks, Kendrick Dixon eluded would-be tacklers and drove down the field to set-up the go ahead field goal.
With 23.7 seconds left on the clock Thomasville’s kick soared through the uprights. Bulldogs’ fans and players alike cheered jubilantly, confident they had the game well in hand. To waste time of the clock Thomasville opted for the squib kick on the subsequent kickoff. Kicked a little strong the ball popped over its intended target, Michael Steele, and dropped into the hands of Andre Hicks, who had already returned the opening kickoff 65 yards. With a godlike burst of speed Hicks raced for the juked the first defender and darted for the endzone. Miraculously, he reached the endzone, giving the Lions the lead for once and for all.
Once Stuart Coleman fell on the fumbled Thomasville lateral, it was official: Lovett was going to the Dome, again. Now, Lovett prepares to square up against Cook Co. in the semifinals this Saturday. The team looks to surpass last year’s run, which ended with a 65-7 loss to Dublin in the Dome.
