Chamblee domes it up
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Well, they can’t all be pretty.
The Bulldogs rolled past the Westover Patriots 41-26 in a game that was much closer than it should have been. Chamblee handicapped themselves by fumbling five times, four of which lead to Westover touchdowns. The Bulldog’s Defense picked up the offense’s slack. The Chamblee Defense made critical stops such as causing and retrieving a momentum-shifting goal line fumble.
Running back Warren Norman is putting up scary numbers up right now. Norman added another 200-yard performance against the Patriots complemented by a whopping five rushing touchdowns. In the playoffs, Norman is averaging 186 yards per game and almost four touchdowns per contest. Those stats are borderline unreal.
In more groundbreaking news, Chamblee will be making its first trip to the semifinals in 42 years. Chamblee will face the highly talented 13-0 Carver Columbus Tigers. Anchored by Auburn committed quarterback DeRon Furr, Carver Columbus had not been tested much this season until last week against Carrolton where they escaped 14-7. Chamblee will need to use their clock eating running game to keep the dangerous Carver Columbus Offense off the field as much as possible.
Another interesting factor is the experience aspect. Carver Columbus has played on this exact stage before. Although several members of the Bulldog’s coaching staff have coached in the dome, Chamblee players have never been this deep into the playoffs. Coach Showfety and crew are trying to make sure intimidation will not plague the Bulldogs, but this is certainly a new experience.
Chamblee students will be let out early for the game, so I believe that there will be a huge student turnout. Even students who have never attended a football game in their life are going just to get out of school early. It will be an exhilarating atmosphere for sure. I would not be surprised if it gets emotional, since Chamblee fans were spoiled this season with some fantastic victories this season.
