Robbed
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
There is no other way to describe it. Peachtree Ridge was robbed in OT last Friday night against Roswell. Say what you want, even if you were there or not, Alex Daniel fumbled the football before crossing the plane of the endzone. Plain and simple. Though I have yet to hear a Roswell fan admit that (including my fellow blogger Chris Orf). They must have seen the goaline move up two yards! Watching the replay from CSS it is clear and obvious that he (Daniel) fumbled on either the one or two and that he never broke the plane with the ball. The ball then bounced in the endzone where not one Roswell player came close to the ball. The Lions were all over it. But “The play” was ruled a TD and ended the Lions season, when it should have ended Roswell’s.
Now looking at the 4th quarter, the Lions should have wrapped things up earlier. They should have run the ball with 2 and a half minutes left rather than pass it. But they didn’t. They should have made an interception on the 50 yard line when the ball was in the defender’s hands, but they didn’t. They should have caught a TD pass in OT but they didn’t. My point is that the Lions did not have to be in this situation. It could have been won much earlier. But it wasn’t and we got totally ripped off.
In my humble opinion, Roswell still has not beaten the Lions once in the last two years. Though they earned a share of a championship and an oppurtunity at another title. That makes zero sense whatsoever. Well it is all said and done now, none of it matters anymore. The ruling cannot be changed. I just felt horrible for my friends who worked so hard all season to get here and go out on that. Especially, i feel for some of those seniors who will never play football again. What a horrible way to end their careers.
All in all though, it was a great season, with it’s highs and lows. I have enjoyed writing these blogs about Lion’s football for the AJC. I would like to thank them for the wonderful oppurtunity. I will continue to write throughout the year as the Ridge sends it’s other teams onto the field or court or in the pool, whatever it may be. I will be here. Thanks again for reading my football blogs. I hope you have enjoyed them. It has been a fantastic season. GO LIONS!

You said it so well Logan. We were robbed.
I still wonder why our offensive coordinator was calling pass plays with 2 minutes left. We were not managing the clock as we did at North Cobb. I just don’t get it. Maybe the offensive coordinator will one day let us know.

You always did have good blogs Logan. And yes I will admit it was a controversial call, but there were two other controversial calls, one game changing, the other was potentially game changing, that your entire fan base declines to comment on. That being said, PTR had a great season, knocking out two #1s, making it into the playoffs with a new head coach (Just wondering, did your old coach leave or was he fired?)and started a rivalry that to date has been nothing but controversial. I hope the Hornets meet the Lions next year. Good luck then.

Chris- Coach Armstrong left after last season. He got what he wanted to accomplish, then decided to return to a team who offered him a job before us. I dont know how he did this year over there. Hopefully well… he is a great coach. And those other two controversial calls, which are you referring two. i am more than willing to comment on any of that game. My biggest problem Chris is that no Roswell fan as yet to admit that they caught abreak on the final play and that it was a fumble. Not one. And i dont see why. You got your win. Nothing will be affected if you just simply say, yea ya’ll did get hosed. Just no one at Roswell will seem to admit it when the rest of the state knows it.

You know what school he went to? And the two calls I mean are the waved off personal foul and the holding that brought back Dustin’s TD. And looking at the play on CSS replay, from that one tape it was either a down or a touchdown, and now i’m leaning more that he was downed.

Robbed… Logan, the title of this blog is exactly the word I haved used to describe the game to friends and family who knew PRHS had made it to the second round of the playoffs. I work with a guy who officiates high school football part-time. Yesterday when he returned to work after being away for the holiday I told him that PRHS was robbed. Being an offical he immediately jumped to the defense of those officiating the game Friday. However, he hadn’t seen the game nor gotten any information regarding the controversial play. This morning he came in and essentially said “You’re right. You were robbed.”
What a heartbreaker! No one can ever doubt the ability of our Mighty Lions again, though Logan. They proved that last year was not just a “fluke” but that they’re for real. Next year watch out world… the PRHS Mighty Lions will be back!

Chris and Curious- Ok yea, those two…gotcha. Well from what i saw, on the running into the kicker our player (Minter, i believe it was) was slowing up as he approached the Return man and from what i saw there was a plieup behind him and essentially players bumped into one another which caused Minter to hit the return guy. The point is that he was slowing up and did not intentionally hit him. Besides if he had actually been going to “hit” him EVERYONE in the stadium would have known it. Minter would have Jacked him up. Minter may be one of the hardest hitters i have ever seen. So i dont think that was a bad call. Besides didnt Daniel just fumble later on that drive anyways??? The 2nd one- May not have been exactly holding. Could have been block in the back, whatever you may call it. Our defender had turned around to chase Taliaferro and a Roswell player grabbed him from behind and basically pulled him down, more or less tackled him. That one i was fortunate to see cause i was on the 20 yard line. And it happened right in front of me. We could talk about other no calls or calls all night. How about the no Pass Interference call on our WR #21? That one wasn’t close. Roswell defender hit him bout a second before the ball got there. Those calls dont really matter as much. The one that mattered sent one team home and one team on to Lownes.

I’d agree on the pass interference call, had the ball not been overthrown.
But anyway, that doesnt matter. Its been half a week, and its over, either side dwelling on it wont make anyone feel better.
All I can do is wish ya’ll good luck next season.

Moving on. This is all very interesting but re-opens the door to the prespective of why the OT rule existed last year.PR and RHS have become the catalyst for debate and change.
If this had been the champonship game, is this a better outcome than what happened last year?
Should the rule have been changed?
A coach from another school told me that this is exactly why the old rule was in place.

Overtime has always been played, in some shape or fashion, during the playoffs in Georgia HS football, except for the championship games. Otherwise, how else would you determine who moves on to the next round? So no recent change affected this game, other than maybe how OT is executed. The new rules change only means OT will now be played in the championship games, if needed.
Logan, great job on the blogs! I really enjoyed ‘em all year. And you’re absolutely right, PR should never have allowed themselves to get in that position. Better clock management would’ve given Roswell little chance to score on the last drive. Poor play calling by the coaches there.
All in all, though, a great year for the Lions! Looking forward to ‘08. And good luck to Buford, Grayson, & N. Gwinnett. Bring it home for Gwinnett, guys!
