Eagles soar into the playoffs
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
For the second year in a row, the Eagles have proven themselves to be playoff worthy. They went 7-3 this year beating McEachern to advance to the first round of the state playoffs in region 5-AAAAA. It was a cold night as Etowah welcomed the McEachern Indians to the Eagles’ Nest for the last game of the season. It was all or nothing for the Eagles, as this game would determine whether their dreams of another playoff season would come true. Within the first four minutes, Etowah dominated with a strong first down close to the Indians five yard line. On the next play, Michael Turner (6) scored to put Etowah on the board early 6-0. There was no extra point due to the ball hitting the pole. With a minute left in the first quarter, McEachern fired back scoring their first touchdown putting them ahead 7-6. Two minutes into the second quarter, the Eagles were back on top as Chris Dumesnil (24) caught a thirty-one yard pass made by the aspiring quarterback Taylor Majors (10) for a touchdown. With the extra point by Omar Lopez (18), Etowah was ahead 13-7. Then with five minutes left in the first half, Turner scored his second touchdown of the game. This would result in the final score of the first half, 20-7. The second half was a slow one. The only points added to the score was by McEachern when they ran for about ten yards to score their second and last touchdown. It was an offensive struggle for both teams, but due to a great first half Etowah won and is heading to the playoffs to face Norcross.
