A Home Win on the Horizon

Yes it is true. All the rumors you have heard about me. I have been in hiding from all of the Peachtree Ridge losses. But now i am here to man up and admit defeat. Both games (North and Mill Creek) we were outplayed. In my opinion, I still think the Lions are a far better team than Mill Creek but on that night the Hawks were better. But the Lions did finally win another game last week, against North Forsyth. Though NF put up the 2nd most points anyone has scored on the Lions all year.

This week the Lions (6-3) faceoff with the cross-town rival Duluth Wildcats (1-8). The teams have played each other three times in the short history of Peachtree Ridge and the Lions have won all of the games. In fact, the Lions have basically dominated the series. The first match-up featured the Lions first ever Region 7 win. 17-7. The next year, the Lions put a beating on the Cats 62-14. And last year, the Lions rolled to a 31-0 victory. That would put the series’ all-time points total at 110-21, Lions lead.

This year, may not be any different. The Cats just lack talent. Their sole win came off of a win over Meadowcreek. In fact, the Mustangs almost ended their 4-year losing streak but the Wildcats pulled it out. The only thing that makes Peachtree Ridge-Duluth a rivalry is the distance factor. Duluth is literally less than 2 miles from Peachtree Ridge. Within running distance. Speaking of running distance…. look for Lions RB Brandon Davis to have a big night against the Cats on Senior Night. Well, i am looking forward to my last home high school football game as a student. There is no need to give you my prediction, because well…. it is pretty simple. If Duluth stays within 30, they can mark it as a Win.

Meanwhile, just up the road from our lovely school, North Gwinnett will square off with Norcross for the Region 7 Championship Game. The game has a huge effect on the Region seeding. If Norcross wins, they get #1. North gets #2. Mill Creek #3 and we get #4. North wins, then we have a three way tie for second. Rumor has it that the seeds in case of a tie have already been determined. From what i hear, the Lions get #3 and Norcross #2. That leaves Mill Creek at #4. My pick on the NG game is that the Bulldogs win by 7. Folks, I look forward to a great weekend of football (not to mention my UGA Bulldogs “blacking out” the Auburn Tigers).

GO LIONS!
