Devils Defense Dominates

Usually homecoming is based on the night, the queen, the parade, the princesses, but last friday it was about football. The Blue Devils took a 5-1 record into the what may amount to the biggest game of the football season; against the 6-1 Etowah Eagles. The Eagles had the county’s best rushing attack and the AJC and MDJ had this game highlighted, as a key matchup in the region. The rain was hovering and and so were playoff implications. Swin Moore, Marcus Cothran, and Albert Cortez had big games against the big offensive line of Etowah. The defenses dominated a game but there were some signs of life from the offense, including the incorporation of Chris Tanzy into the gameplan. The Devils fought their way to a 14-3 victory thanks to an 18 play touchdown drive capped off by a five yard run by Stanley Jennings in the fourth quarter. At the end of the game, the Devils appear to be in prime position for a playoff spot. After Murray County this week, we have to play Woodstock and then No. 1 North Cobb at home…. I can’t wait for that game.
