Another Win
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Eagles won their third straight game on the road Friday beating Northview 21-14. Milton now stands at 5-1 and won their first game in the region. Lance Martin led the offense with 161 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Each teams were held scoreless in the first quarter, but Milton scored when it counted scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter.
The defense had another great game stopping a talented Northview offense most of the night. Milton stopped Northview from converting big plays downfield, except for a 56 yeard pass early in the third quarter. The most impressive stat was that Milton recovered all three fumbles that the Titans lost which proved to be the turning points in the game. Next week Milton faces another region game at home playing Centennial where they will try to keep their four game winning streak alive.

Great win for the players and the program! However, let’s face it, the offense is getting way too predictable and sooner or later it’s going to cost us a win. If it was not for the special teams plays, the score might not have been the same as time and time again the play calling (run the ball up the middle) was not getting the job done. Yes, we need to run Lance and Tony a lot, but we also need to pass the ball and add balance to our offense to keep our opponents off balance. There’s no way we beat Roswell and the Hooch trying to run the ball all night. These are two well coached teams who, like Etowah, will be ready for our running game and will shut us down. Let’s hope Centennial has not already figured this out as we really should beat them and move to 6-1. The players stepped up against Northview. Now it’s time for the coaches to step up and balance the attack so we have a decent chance at winning our region.

I think we should run with toney and lance still they stop us and if they can’t stop us then keep on running. And if they start to slow us down hit them with some screens and quick passes. And maybe hit them with a play action pass to mills. But we just need to keep playing defense and make some turnovers. Play ball control offense.

There is a new sheriff in town, that’s clear to see and it is showing with the Eagle’s, keep up the good work and I agree whole heartedly w/Longtime….plays are predictable, not much passing and running up the middle……this worked before hopefully it will either keep working or, they will execute some surprise moves on the opponent. Good job Eagles

Centennial 34, Milton 14…our players played hard and never gave up. Too bad our coaches did not change anything after Northview, as predicted, which clearly led to last night’s loss.
Here’s another prediction…Milton will not get a single win this year against a team that finishes with a winning record. 6-4 is how it’s going to end, no playoffs, and really just back to our normal let down. Walker gets his winning season, gets to keep his job one more year, and we all get the “feel good” story until the losing starts up next year.
Last night exposed our lack of coaching experience and ability to adjust to game conditions. Everyone in the stadium knew our game plan before the game started. Everyone also knew by the end of the first quarter it was a game plan that was not working.
So unlike better prepared and more experienced coaches, ours stuck to it until well into the fourth quarter (did we learn nothing from the Etowah game?) only to see any chances of a playoff appearance in 2008 slip out of our hands.
Did you see Centennial’s coach put in four wide outs, spread our defense all over the field, only to run the ball up the middle? Not a difficult concept if you feel you really must run the ball up the middle!
Did you see Centennial’s coach set up 5 yard passes to the outside? It was there for us all night and would have led to first downs. Instead, we set plays to throw into the middle of the field where the entire defense was waiting for us to run the ball up the middle?
To our quarterback, don’t let yourself get down about last night…our coach is a “quarterback killer”. We saw this all last year. His failure to develop or use plays that allow anyone else but our running backs to contribute to the offense is not your fault. His use of defensive players on offense when it matters further contributes to the confusion and lack of execution by the offense.
The sad thing here is our coaches are full of themselves now because they’ve ammassed a winning record (against teams with losing records). It’s time to change or you will continue to fail coaches. This writing’s clearly on the wall!
Oh and Reg, there’s definitely a new sheriff in town (running up the middle has not worked before against better teams)… and by the way the new sheriff looks alot like the sheriff from loserville!

Long time….you hit the nail right on the head…..why not use the receivers and switch it up? What is the point of having the receivers if there is no faith in them? They have to change strategies….now every defensive knows to plug the holes and stop our runs…the last minutes of the 4th quarter is when they start passing? Way too late and what if one of the running backs get injured? If those receivers are never thrown the ball and tested under pressure, then they will never accomplish anything. Our players did try hard and hats off to them. Keep it up guys, see you at Roswell.
