Update: Last Two Games Included, Record Now 5-1

I’d like to apologize to anyone who was inconvenienced by my lack of writing recently, I’ve been incredibly busy preparing for West Forsyth High School’s first two plays. I, along with a few others, am running the behind-the-scenes-technical-aspect of the two one acts. Both plays will show on the same three nights, the 17th, 18th, and 20th of October. “Legacy” is the first play that will be performed, followed by “Final Dress Rehearsal.” Come watch the West Forsyth dramatic arts program as they put on their first ever performances!

Now for the Football. October 5th was the game against North Forsyth High school, and it was also West’s first loss, breaking the winning streak that had been keeping the team so pumped up. Rumor has it, though, that North used some of their Varsity players to give them an edge to beat the Wolverines. Overall the game against North kept everyone on their toes the whole time. At first it looked like the game was going to be a hopeless slaughter for West, but about halfway through the first quarter West made it’s first touchdown after North had made two of theirs. After a few more touchdowns for both teams the score was up to 18-21 with West behind by three points. West made another touchdown with two minutes left in the game, bringing all the fans up to their feet, cheering. When North regained possession though, the game began to look worse and worse. They were slowly making their way down toward their endzone. Eventually North broke through and made one last touchdown with only fifteen seconds left in the game. All the West fans who had stayed on their feet for the last two minutes, hoping for a win, were speechless at such a close loss of 28-25. The one question on everyone’s mind was, if North didn’t have Varsity players on the field, would we have won?

The loss on the 5th didn’t dampen the spirit of the Wolverines for the next game on the 12th, however, because the game against Collins Hill was indeed a slaughter, but the team slaughtered was Collins Hill. With a final score of 20-7, West was back and hitting hard, avenging their loss against North.

First quarter began slowly and it wasn’t until two minutes left in the quarter that Collins Hill made their first and only touchdown that they recovered from a fumble, they also kicked in an extra point. Fifteen seconds on the clock later, Ben Emert made West’s first of three touchdowns, which was followed by an extra point kicked by David Camp. Fifteen more clock seconds later Collins hill made a seventy-four yard run and made a touchdown, which was penalized and brought back to where they had started from, leaving the score at 7-7. Robert Gagliano intercepted the ball with just a few seconds left on the clock, gaining possession of the ball for West in the next quarter.

After only nine clock seconds of the second quarter Lance Baker passed the ball to Jason Klanac who made a touchdown, but, just like Collins Hill, it was penalized and the ball was brought back to where it had started from. With about five minutes left in the second quarter, David Groce made up for that last penalized touchdown with another touchdown, which was, as usual, followed up by an extra point from David Camp. Second quarter ended uneventfully, giving way to the halftime show.

I left for the halftime show to get food and hang out with a few friends, and stayed over near the concession stands through the first half of the third quarter. When I returned West had gotten another touchdown, and I asked around and found out that it was David Groce who had gotten the touchdown. I do not remember, at this time, if there were any extra points, so I believe the final score was 20-7.

Fourth quarter was, for the most part, uneventful and after it was all said and done, the Wolverines had renewed their confidence from the previous game and brought their record up to 5-1.
