Friday Night Black Out
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Friday night is the night everyone has been waiting for. The legendary game is fought like an epic battle, between the Cherokee Warriors and the Sequoyah Chiefs. This is perhaps the most highly anticipated and exciting game of the season.
As part of the build up for the game, there is also a "Nickel War" that takes place between the two schools this week leading up to the game. It is a very intense competition, yet a simple one. Students donate their nickels, dimes, pennies; whatever is in their pockets, and all of the proceeds go to benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Our dueling schools take both competitions quite seriously. Both schools have been known to host unofficial bake sales and sell t-shirts, etc. They will do anything in their desperate attempts to raise more money than the other. Cherokee won the nickel war in 2006, but the competition is steep, and Sequoyah has the determination it takes to win.
Sequoyah takes pride in the knowledge that they won this war against Cherokee already in 2006. All of the Chiefs support them in their quest to conquer the Warriors again this Friday night. The plan is to "black out" Cherokee in the stands on Friday. There will be a lot of press coverage, and the stadium will be packed, so be sure to arrive well before kickoff at 7:30 in order to ensure good seats. Stay tuned to find out who will win the war this time!
GOOOOOOOOOO CHIEFS!
