Not Much Rain… Not Much Offense

The Marietta Blue Devils and the Campbell Spartans got started with a 90% chance of rain Friday night. The rain never came, and it felt like the points didnt either. Both teams defenses played well on a night that neither offense seemed to click. In a 14-0 victory, Marietta’s offense couldnt get anything until the second quater when a Campbell corner bit on a Stanley Jennings pump fake, and he connected with Jeremy Hill on a 36-yard scoring strike, they scored again in the fourth quarter. Worrisome in the Devils offense was that the offensive line, somewhat inconsistent with the past two weeks, failed to open holes for the running game. Also Jennings and the wide receivers failed to connect on a few routes and miscommunication was common. However, all in all, the boys played well enough to win and we are 3-0. Player of the game though was Jeremy Hill # 8 who had 4 receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown as well as 2 interceptions on defense. Thoughts?

Jennings had plenty of time to pass, but just missed on a couple of open receivers. Had one sure TD dropped in the endzone - hit em right in the numbers. Play of the game might have been the fake punt deep in MHS territory at own 5 yd line and Jennings took off for a 12 yd first down. Either a gutsy call, or a crazy call. Dunno. Trey Charles turned in one of his trademark end arounds that went for 22 yds, setting up Turner’s 13 yd TD run in the 3Q. Not a pretty win, but a win nonethless. Congrats Blue. 3-0.

Good thing Jennings got that first down when he decided to take off on a 4th down punt from the MHS 5 yd line. Otherwise he be running gassers all week. Probably should run em anyway for free-lancing a play that could have easily blown up and given Campbell primo position at the MHS goal line.

The win over Campbell gave Coach Friday Richards his 95th all time victory as MHS head football coach. Congratulations to Coach Friday. Here’s to hitting 100 this season!

I do hope that the O-line plays better against south cobb. Although we had over 100 yds against campbell, the run game really struggled, yet we had bigger guys. Time to push. South Cobb is another notch up in talent. All KT needs is a small crease to jump thru and he’s good for 6-7 yards, or more.

there’s absolutely no reason why the Blue Devils cannot beat South Cobb. If the team plays to its potential, they come home with a win. No dumb mistakes, stay focus, take care of the ball, be aggressive=victory #4 of 2007. Go Big Blue.
