Another Win, New Regulations
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Etowah Eagles have another win under their belt due to their 10-0 win over Milton. It was their season home opener and they were playing on their brand new Astro Turf. The game was recorded on Cherokee TV which is an on the web video.
The Etowah fans are really into this season with the new field and the new and approved team on the field, but one thing is stopping them from enjoying it like in the years past.
There are new regulations that come with Friday night football games. There is now a dress code, the same as the schools. Girls can’t wear shorts or the little tank tops. Many girls have made senior and junior tank tops for the season already. Guys have to wear shirts which means they can’t paint their whole body like they used to do. Not only that, but the middle school kids are not allowed to come to the football games without adult supervision. The second you step foot out of the gate you are not allowed back into the game, which many kids think is another uncalled-for rule.
Many students are very upset with the new rules. Kelsey Brown, a senior, says, “I used to pay money to support my school and my team, show other schools how proud I am of our spirit, and hang out in a place where I don’t have to worry about getting yelled at for something petty. But now I pay MORE MONEY to park in my own school, show other schools how uptight the rules are about shorts… And not be allowed to re-enter the field after telling a friend goodbye.”
The Woodstock game is next and let me tell you, for us students that is the biggest thrill of the year. We make T-shirts, paint our cars, paint ourselves, we get decked out in any way possible. We chant louder than ever. We show spirit more than in any other game. Many students are worried that these rules are going to hold our spirit down. And if you look at the scores, 28-0 and 31-7, that was when the rules weren’t in place.
Now look, we won only 10-0 last Friday when the rules were set. Most people left right away within minutes of the first quarter being started. What is this going to do to our new and approved team? So many seniors, including myself, were looking forward to this season hoping that our last year here, would be a winning championship season.
Are we going to have to limit our fun while watching the season progress? It sure seems like it.

I would just like to say that I totally disagree with your blog. The fact is that many people at Etowah were dressing inappropriatly. Etowah is one of the top schools in the state of Georgia and it doesn’t look nice when we have students with revealing clothing on, not to mention the drinking problem by many of our students. I think the admisitration did good by making the new regulations. Also maybe the new dress code will stop all the bullying going on at games and at school.
