The Battle of Buckhead

In one of the most anticipated games of the season, the Westminster Wildcats beat their local rival Lovett for the first time in the past three years this past Friday night. After an incredible 2006 season, the Lovett Lions were ranked sixth in AA while the Wildcats of AAA were unranked. The AJC stated that one of the only reasons that the Cats had a chance of winning the game was because of the experience of their senior quarterback-he was actually injured and replaced by a junior. The Cats got fired up with a pep rally during their assembly period that day which included a segment of the cheerleaders’ halftime show, a hula hoop contest, and finally the decapitation of a lion piƱata. The 2008 Westminster seniors could not have been more pumped up to beat the Lions for the first time in their high school football careers. The class of 2009 really stepped it up for the Wildcats-junior Tom Moak started at quarterback, Ross Conway rushed for 105 yards, and Stephon Shelton completed two of the Cats’ three touchdowns while rushing for 53 yards and gaining 138 on punt returns. We’re looking forward to a great season.
