Marietta Blasts Lassiter to Christen The Frank
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Blue Devils opened up their season on the same night Lassiter debuted its $1.2 million dollar improvements to The Frank (their home stadium); the Trojan-tron and their new sprint turf. The game started out rather sloppy on both sides, the Trojans took the opening kickoff and took three plays to move six yards backwards. Then came the Blue Devils first highlight, on the first punt of the season, no less than three skill players were in the backfield. The punt was blocked and Trey Charles recovered on the 4 yard-line. The Devils struggled to get in the endzone and a false start penalty landed them at third and goal from the seven. Stanley Jennings pass was tipped high into the air, and intercepted by the Lassiter defense. After this things began to fall into place the Blue Devils defense played strong throughout the night and following a extremely lengthy rain delay the Marietta offense began to click. Senior tailback Kelsey Turner had a strong night, scoring not once but twice on the ground. Seniors Stanley Jennings and Jeremy Hill also connected on a long scoring pass as the buzzer sounded to end the first half. By the end of the night, the MHS season started out with with a comfortable 30-7 win over a talented Lassiter squad. The fans that manage to stick it out through the storm and the game were rewarded by the Lassiter hospitality (i.e. a world-class fireworks show to end the night with a bang.)

Rush game looked good with Turner. Passing game has to be more consistent for Blue Devils to contend for region title. Defense almost pitched a shut-out, giving up less than 165 yds total offense, but no sacks…yet. Next up - Kell

keep your eyes on #19 outside linebacker. the sacks will come. though he is undersized for the position, he plays big. 5’9” 165lb

unless there is significant improvement with the LBs, along with big pushes upfront from the DTs, don’t hold your breath waiting for a lot of sacks. Last season, the Dline could barely stop a gnat. We had a MLB that chased people instead of squaring up and taking on runners. We truly miss the DEs from 2004 and 2005 - Moore, Allen, Weaver. Brought big time pressure on QB’s and forced runners inside where DTs and LBs could finish em off.

Wouldn’t it be refreshing for the offensive line to really step up this season and make things happen? We have a fleet of speedsters to run the ball (turner et al), and we have some OL people of size that in my opinion have yet to live up to their potential and dominate games. In fact, when was the last time MHS had a dominant line? Been awhile. We have the natural resources, now it’s time to coach and develop that talent. It’s critical when we start hitting the ‘big boy’ games in a couple of weeks.

Don is correct about #19 Haasan Green. In the Lassiter game he racked up 10 tackles - 2 for losses - plus recorded 2 pressures on the passer and a knocked down pass. Keep it up 1 9.

i personally thought the olines from 04 and 05 were pretty dominant with the 04 line recieving the css offensive line of the state award and blocking for an all state qb who nearly set the marietta passing record held by eric zier while still opening up holes for 1500 yds rushing on the year..not to mention blocking for a marietta offense that led the county in total yds in ‘05…pretty good considering that we never have the size of the brookwoods or parkviews..just a thought

Hasaan plays big due to his work in the offseason in the weightroom. He benches 325 lbs. almost twice his body weight. Look out for him to make a difference coming off the edge… He also has sprinter speed, a very dangerous combination.
