The Most Qualified Sports Blogger You’ve Ever Encountered

In retrospect, I probably should have hung up the phone when an AJC reporter called me one day in July and told me, “I got your number from Jimmy Chupp.” I didn’t think quickly enough, though, so here I sit, inventing reasons on how I am remotely qualified to commentate throughout the year on Spartan sports.

My qualifications are minimal, except for the fact that I proudly wear, and often, a shirt proclaiming, “It’s a great day to be a Spartan.” My athletic abilities are limited, evidenced by the fact that I broke my elbow last week after a graceful slide across the floor of the locker room of the aquatic center. Even though I’ve never been at the top of the depth chart, I’ve always cheered the GAC Spartans on since I came to the school six years ago. From the Georgia Dome in 2002 to soccer games to lacrosse, I think I have seen every GAC sport in action in some venue and, chances are, with some type of insane Georgia weather, be it hypothermia-inducing temperatures or 104 degrees.

So, with those disclaimers, we’ll try this out and see how it goes. As an old history teacher of mine used to tell us, “pray hard, pray fast.” Go Spartans.
