Harrison Football Team Gears Up for Monster Season
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Harrison Hoya football team is coming off a tough 2006-2007 season in which they went only 6-4 and failed to make the State Playoffs: a situation that seemed very unfamiliar to a program that is notoriously one of the best in the state. Last year was a story of ups and downs. The Hoyas lost their first game to Lowndes by a final score of 13-14 and then rattled off six straight wins only to lose the final three games and miss the playoffs. This year however, the Hoyas seem more than ready to re-establish their dominance in region 5-AAAAA where they will play the likes of heated rivals Marietta, North Cobb, McEachern, and Kennesaw Mountain. The Hoyas, headed by Coach Bruce Cobleigh will feature a team loaded with Seniors, who gained much of their experience last year. With a talented and experienced Senior class lead by recent Auburn commit Darvin Adams, as well as several talented Juniors, the outlook for this upcoming season seems bright.
The Harrison Hoyas will kick off the 2007-2008 season when they travel down to Lowndes County to take on the Vikings in a rematch of last year’s game where they nearly edged the defending State Champs. Following the game at Lowndes, the Hoyas will play at Home on September 8 versus Hiram in the Border Wars. After Border Wars, the Hoyas will enter Region play against the Woodstock Wolverines on September 14. The road to the playoffs will by no means be easy, but all the pieces are set for a successful year. Not to metnion, the Hoyas are coming in to this season with a sour taste in their mouth that they definitely hope to eliminate. With the team focused on the goal of a State Championship, the memory of dear friend and teammate Luke Abbate still in their heart, and redemption on their mind, the Harrison Hoyas are certainly entering this season on a mission. Only time will tell, but in this writer’s own opinion, WINNING is a guarantee.

This year’s Hoya team should be experienced and very quick. All the speed guys from last year return and juniors such as Godhigh, Mackey and Jackson started last year and should be that much better. Put this with experienced seniors such as Lane, Griffin, Austin and Adams and it could be very exciting in Hoya land.
