Dogs have talent, but lack coaching, discipline
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Auburn, Ala. — There is an saying in sports: What’s most important is not “how” but “how many.” Build a 9-2 record the way Georgia has built a 9-2 record — with twigs and a rabbit’s foot — and it follows that’s what players will cling to.
But if it’s true that polls and perceptions have generally reduced college football’s pecking order to a beauty contest, then the Bulldogs were eliminated in the early rounds with Miss Winnipeg.
They won despite committing another nine penalties covering nearly a full field (95 yards). They have elevated the personal foul to a mutant art form (committing six).
They won despite the rarely seen double-whammy on a punt return: roughing-the-kicker at one end, a fumble at the other.
They won despite seeing Auburn, the nation’s No. 102nd rank scoring offense, — a unit so miserable that it scored three points at Mississippi State and seven at Ole Miss — do silly things to them: a 90-yard touchdown drive; a 52-yard touchdown pass; a last-minute drive from its own 20 with only 1:44 remaining and no timeouts to the Georgia 14, only to have the final pass fall incomplete.
What did the Bulldogs do at the end of a 17-13 victory over the Tigers? Congratulate themselves. There must be something about the clock ticking down to 0:00 that causes amnesia.
Asked if he felt the team had escaped with a win, quarterback Matthew Stafford said, “Not at all. I don’t think you escape with wins. You earn them.”
The Capitol One Bowl had a representative in attendance Saturday. So did the Independence Bowl.
Sorry. But postgame spin notwithstanding, this nine-win team has a Shreveport feel to it.
Two weeks ago, the Dogs were drilled by Florida. They haven’t been the same since. They look like a team that has lost both its edge and its focus. And folks, they didn’t have much to start with.
They don’t play smart.
They sputter too often on offense.
They miss tackles on defense.
They commit so many infractions it’s a wonder no official has suffered a torn rotator cuff from throwing so many penalty flags.
They don’t look well coached.
Nine wins? They are more the residual of sheer athletic talent than actual performance, or discipline, or plan.
“I think we were kind of spent at the end,” coach Mark Richt said. He was alluding to the lack of great celebration when Kodi Burns’ final pass from the Dogs’ 14-yard line fell incomplete in the end zone.
Should it be that difficult?
Last week, a mediocre Kentucky team was driving for the potential winning score in the final seconds.
This week, a less-than-mediocre Auburn team was given a shot and nearly pulled off the upset.
The Tigers have won exactly two of their last eight football games. One came over UT-Martin, which most didn’t even realize had a football team. The other came over UT-Knoxville, which we all know doesn’t have a football team.
They will focus on the “how many.” Why? Because the “how” makes you want to cover your eyes.
Georgia accumulated 141 yards in offense on its first two possessions, but came away with no points. Of course. It fell behind 13-10 in the fourth quarter after Mario Fannin’s 35-yard touchdown run capped an 11-play, 90-yard drive.
Maybe the Dogs need another one of those cool player-only meetings.
Stafford’s 17-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Green with less than nine minutes left gave Georgia the lead. Give the offense points for resolve.
But Auburn’s offense, anemic against most, drove the ball deep into Georgia territory twice in the final minutes. The first drive stalled at the 21, where coach Tommy Tuberville decided against going for a field goal that could have closed the lead to a point. The Tigers’ final possession reached the Georgia 14. But Burns missed Rod Smith on third down in the end zone and was pressured into an overthrow to Ben Tate on fourth.
“We dodged a big bullet,” Dannell Ellerbee said. “But a win is a win. We’ll take it.”
Take it and run.

Much as I hate to say it, you’ve got a point, Jeff. It’s almost like the Hawks last year winning the games they won despite substandard coaching and lack of motivation. They were just simply too talented athletically to lose every game or they would have. I don’t know what’s wrong with these Dawgs, but they’re still my team and I love them. We’ll get it straightened out. Despite everything, if we beat tech we can go 10-2 and slap around some pansy Big/PAC-10 team in a New year’s Day bowl and that’ll be a heck of a season considering the sked and the injuries. GO DAWGS!

The amount of penalties the Dawgs pile up have to be the result of no discipline which I think is the result of poor coaching. I think the Georgia staff lacks the tough guy that kicks butt and keeps the players in line. 9 and 2 is great, but this team could really be something if they ever get it together.

Steve, your missing the point. What Jeff is TRYING to tell you is this: These Dawgs should NOT be winning games like this. I mean what the heck..how much more can we do to try to keep these subpar teams in the game? We should have killed Kentucky. We should have destroyed Auburn…I mean heck..were we not the team that was supposed to win it all??? Yes, I admit, we were overhyped and we had a monster schedule. But these Dawgs look like they are playing for Ray Goff…NOT Mark Richt.

say what you want about CMR, but his wife sure as heck does a great job of pouring water into cups for the team. when I see this, it reminds me of the great tradition of having the head coach have his wife on the sideline to serve as a waterboy. In his later years, Bear Bryant admitted that he would not have won any of his SEC or National Championships without Mrs Bryant serving as a water boy. I am kidding, of course. What kind of bushleague candya$$ YMCA approach is it to have his wife on the sideline? UGA pays millions to this guy who cant even control his homelife? what a joke. you think Saban and Urban let their wives hound them on the sideline? MAN’S GAME, COACH. Get with it or get out

I don’t know if Coach Richt will make “adjustments” to his staff after this season, but next year will tell the tale. There should be no more excuses of youth or hopefully injuries then. It will be time for accountability from players or coaches then, if not now.

WE ARE SEEING THE WORST COACHING IN MANY A YEAR ON THE GEORGIA SIDE LINE AND IN THE BOOTH.M/R OWES THE SCHOOL MONEY BACK ON HIS CONTRACT.I ALWAYS BELIVED HE WAS A BAD COACH IN THE BIG GAMES BUT NOW IT HAS SPREAD TO ALL GAMES. HE HAS BEATEN A BUNCH OF GRADE “B” TEAMS AND IN THE ONLY 2 GOOD TEAMS HE PLAYED WELL YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.WHAT CAN WE DO IS THIS KIND OF COACHING GOING TO GO ON FOR AS LONG AS HE STAYS? I’ve been following he dogs way back to childhood, 30 plus years. While CMR has provided us some fantastic games and seasons, this season is very different. I keep waiting til next week and next week still leaves me feeling empty. We’ve got talent coming out of our ears and we can’t put anyone away. Poor play calling, poor execution and lack of emotion. Something has to give and I hope Mark can figure it out. Guess we’ll see in 09. Tired of saying that too.

I am so freak’n tired of the whole “Any win in the SEC is a good win” CRAP! Auburn is not a good team this year and UGA has struggled against several teams that most decent teams have dominated.
The SEC is NOT any where near as solid THIS YEAR as most SEC fans would like to believe.
Most SEC fans think the SEC is so solid “top to bottom” and many think the ACC is weak. Well let’s consider a few facts regarding the 2008 season so far:
SEC vs. ACC head to head: 3-3
Teams ‘receiving votes’ for the top 25 polls: ACC 8 teams SEC 5 teams BIG12 6 teams PAC10 5 teams
Sagarin Top 30 teams: ACC 6 teams SEC 4 teams BIG12 6 teams PAC10 4 teams
Sagarin Conference Rankings: BIG12 #1 ACC #2 SEC #3 PAC10 #6
(I know this is hard to take, but the Sagarin ranking excludes any bias……..it is simply based on performance and strenght of schedule. Oh yeah, it also ranks the ENTIRE conference top to bottom; not just the top 3-4 teams!!)
Lowest Ranked Teams: ACC: NC State at #78 SEC: Tenn at #87 & Miss St at #101 BIG12: Texas AM at #80 & Iowa St at #110 PAC10: UCLA #93, Wash #126 & Wash St #149
The SEC has 4 solid teams (Florida, Alabama, UGA & LSU), but the remainder of the conference is simply not very good. The records for the other 8 teams are misleading due to the fact that they have played essentially nobody out of conference!
Miami lost bad to Florida (final score), but they played VERY close until half way through the 4th quarter. Florida better be ready for Florida State and UGA better be ready for GT or these mighty SEC teams might just get beat by lowly ACC teams which you guys say are “weak”. We will see……….you guys might wish the media had not been so unfair to the ACC the past few weeks if Florida and UGA actually lose these two games. If FSU “accidentally” beats Florida and Florida beats Alabama in the SEC Championship game; the SEC will not have a team in the NC game. Think it through.
Go GT!

Schultz is always quick to rip UGA. After the Vandy game last year I think the article was titled “welcome to mediocrity” or something like that. We all know how UGA finished the year after that. While I agree this year hasn’t been Richt’s finest hour, this team can finish 11-2 - the same record as last year - and finish in the top ten. (Although I’m aware the feel of this year’s 11-2 would be MUCH different than last year’s). JS is a good columnist, and I usually get a chuckle while reading his work, even when it’s a joke at UGA’s expense. He’s just going a little overboard here. No, it hasn’t been the year any of us UGA fans have wanted, but it is far from a total disaster, and we are in good hands with Mark Richt.

will you people quit using the schedule as an excuse? your schedule didnt end up being that bad. you guys are just solidly mediocre. arizona state is 3-6. auburn and tennessee are complete trash this year. the ony decent win you guys have so far is over lsu, who has a qb that throws more tds to the opposing team than to his own. youve been completely blown out in the two games youve played against good teams, and youve barely beaten mediocre teams. real teams handle the opposition. since the ol miss game, florida hasnt won by less than 30 points. they beat a kentucky team were lucky to beat by 50+, they bloew out a vandy team you barely beat, and they jsut dismanteld a usc team that you could only scrape 14 points out of. thats what good teams do. the sooner you kids recognize that fact that uga is a mediocre team the better off youll all be.

You are right Sargent Shultz… don’t let anybody ever say that you know nothing. (You know like the character on Hogan’s Heroes who is always saying…Ok its not very good, but its the best I could do after watching such a lousy game.)This team was never prepared to play with the big boys. Could it be a lack of senior leadership? Who knows how any of us thought they could play for a national championship. I have never seen such a lack of discipline. I thought Mark Richt’s head was going to explode when one of his players risked a penalty for taking his helmet off. I have never seen him so frustrated on the sideline as he was today. It was a weird game between two underachieving teams with no clue as to what it takes to leave mediocrity behind. It was not enjoyable to watch. Georgia Tech has a very good opportunity to win this year… but somehow I do not expect a very entertaining game. It will be a battle to see who can make the fewest stupid mistakes. Oh goody.

Dogs have got to get rid of Martinez.. D looked like it didnt know what it was doing.. Ellerbee has not been the same since he’s come back. I saw only 1 person out of 11 that really husseled and gave a dam, Curran!! So the big question, what happens next yr? This isnt the NFL no free agents to improve the D. Even if Staffard and Moreno stay and we score 100 pts a game, the D wont be any better anytime soon.. Bring in a New D corrdinator.. and BOBO has got to go too.. QB keeper on 3rd and long.. killing me. Stafford isnt Tebo.. let pray for changes in the off season..

How many times will I call the offensive plays while watching on TV. My freinds used to be amazed, but now they’re better than me at it. We all know what Bozo is going to call, deep pass or QB keeper or Knowson to the weak side or up the middle on that God awful delay hand off. Why is it when the dogs need 6 yards on 2nd down, they throw to the end zone, EVERY TIME????? If you look at Alabama, FLorida Texas, or whoever, they don’t go for the long pass in short yardage situations, every time. The coaching on this team is ridiculous! Special teams are special alright. Its as though they trade their football helmets for the special helmets when they get on the short bus after the game. Martinez, Bozo and Fabris have to be the worst coaches in history. Don’t get me wrong, a win is a win, but lets not wait until we’re in Tennessee’s shoes to finally accept some constructive criticism.

I’ve never thought Richt was the coach to take them to a national championship. He’s good for 9-10 wins a season. Respectable amd professional. He just doesn’t seem to keep his guys focused. I watched Moreno and company doing their dancing on the sideline during the game. How can they be happy after that pathetic performance. Hope they enjoy playing in some jack weed bowl game in December.

Wow! We look terrible. Our offense is so inconsistent. Our defense played better today, but come on, it was Auburn. With the skill players we have on offense our O should have done a lot better. What was the deal with the play-calling on the last drive. It looked like we were just trying to let the clock run down, but we had too much time.
I think the defensive problems start up front. No offense to the DL’s and DE’s but they are just not as talented as years past. We can’t pressure anybody without a blitz, which leaves us vunerable.
It also seems like there is a lot of confusion between the LB’s and the DB’s as far as who is supposed to pick up who in what package, etc.
I agree with Mojoman: we don’t have that asskicking coach.
9-2 is great, but if you look at USC, UK, and AU games, we could easily be 6-5. We have lost that MOJO, the swagger, whatever you want to call it. Hopefully we get healthy and Staff and Moreno come back for next year.
I think Coach Richt needs to take a hard look at things in the offseason. He is my coach, and our coach. I LOVE the dawgs, always will, but something in the air seems to have changed. I hope for DAWG nation, they figure out what it is.

Everyone does realize that this is the end of a tough four game stretch on the road in the SEC. At the beginning of the season, most “experts” thought that if the Dawgs won 3 of 4, they would most likely be staring at an SEC title birth. Losing to Alabama changed the picture and the loss to Florida put them out of the SEC race, but taking 3 out of 4 in this stretch is still impressive. Also consider this, after losing a 3rd start on the O line this season, Georgia still managed to get a win over an Auburn team that was healthy on defense for the first time since early in the season. A win is a win, whether you like it or not and Georgia is 9-2 going to a New Year’s day bowl.

Yes !
Jeff, I agree.
UGA does not play disciplined football.
I don’t understand. Do the players not
have some type of discipline for stupid
penalties and mistakes? Coaches Meyer &
Saban are know for their well coached,
disciplined teams. Last yr when Ga.
beat Fla—the gators had to do 42 extra
reps each time in the weight room. 42
for the number of points the Dogs
scored. It made Fla players remember the
game all yr and they were not about to
get beat this yr. Coach Richt appears to
be too laid back. Give him a lot of
credit for annually producing 10 win
seasons and the Ga schedule was tough
this yr and we had some key injuries.
But Coach Richt—get on the players and
coaches..do whatever it takes to stop
silly, stupid —shoot yourself in the
foot mistakes….Until these stupid
mistakes and penalties are stopped. Ga
will never win a National title.

For many years, UGA dominated the ‘gators on the football field in spite of the consistently superior talent in Gainesville. When Spurrier arrived, he was able to maximize that talent and the domination changed. Unfortunately, the ‘Dogs of 2008 remind me a lot of those pre-Spurrier ‘Gator teams. Hopefully Richt & company can figure out how to do a better job of utilizing the amazing talent pool that UGA seems to consistently have if the Dawgs ever hope to again have the opportunity to play for the SEC championship.

I agree with you Jeff, this team is under coach defensively, special teams and sometimes offensively, like on the 4yard-line throwing a fade when you have sutherland, chapas, and moreno available.what was 3rd and 20,run? 3rd and 9 run by stafford? when you have aj green and massaquoi that is a passing down Bobo, were’nt you a QB? I’m very disappointed with our performance this year. this game made me sick to watch.Stafford if you want to pro you need to get some touch on your deep ball, any QB can dink and dunk down the field. Anyone who says they’re just glad to win has low expectations. leadership reflects attitude. I still love the dawgs and always will, just a little tough love.

I’m glad we are 9-2 but WTF?
We were a MUCH better team at this point last year! Yes I know we have had some key injuries but that is NOT our problem and we all know it.
We keep making the SAME errors every week and the good teams (Alabama & Florida) pounded us. Who ever is in charge of special teams (Fabris?) needs to be relieved of his duties—immediately. If Richt wants to start taking a more active role in coaching (which he needs to) he should take over special teams like Urban Meyer and make that a team strength NOT a weakness. It’s also obvious we have some truly stupid players, “yes” Reshad Jones, Benjamin Boyd, Prince Miller etc.. I’m talking to you. All I know is that Alabama’s players are NOT smarter than us (IQ wise) but they sure as hell don’t make stupid plays. UGA Coaches and players need to take a long look at themselves and the program and all man up.
Finish the damn Drill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are two sides to this argument. One stating that they are content with this team and our only failures are against top 5 teams and the other side is saying we basically suck.
I believe we are somewhere in the middle. We always (well usually) play to the level of our competition i.e Kentucky, USC, Auburn, Vandy, etc etc.
But watching these games I am sick of undisciplined players, personal fouls, sloppy defensive coaching and the gross lack of execution on the defense. We, as UGA fans, are like the parent that always stands up for their kid no matter even if their kid is guilty or whatever.
Its time to wake up and look objectively at UGA. Our offense is great from where we start to the redzone. Then we nut up and Bobo calls Tebow…cough cough ahem… Stafford on runs and just stupid bone head plays.
Dont get me started on special teams….but overall we lucked our ways to wins in especially these last two games. We should realistically be 7-4 headed into tech. But count our lucky stars or lady luck herself that we arent.
Overall, Id say due to injuries and everything 9-2 going into Tech is good enough. BUt lets win the games we are supposed to win and lets win them convincingly and consistently. Then we’ll start talking about NC.
As for Willie…no comment

What a bunch of b******. Player-meetings, CMR turning a blind-eye to the state of affairs of his team, blaming the players’ lack of execution.
Screw that. Its okay if you want to say that I’m not a Dawg fan, or a REAL dawg fan. I’ve been a Dawg fan for over 30 years, marched in the Redcoats, and given money. Sorry, but I’m not buying anymore.
There’s a real problem there and CMR doesn’t appear to be part of the solution at this point. Martinez has shown a complete lack of ability to plan, scheme, and coach.
This run of penalties isn’t swagger boys -and #2 was a complete idiot out there!!! Swagger is when you hit them hard, play smart, don’t give up the easy plays, and make them think twice about the cute plays because the regular plays hurt enough as it is.
Maybe Richt’s ball will drop by the end of the season and he’ll realize that Bobo isn’t what he’d hoped he would be and that Martinez makes for a good enough CB coach but apparently doesn’t know if his a* is punched or drilled when it comes to being a real DC at such an elite program.
Georgia’s Defense looked poor at best against an Auburn offense that is hurting, and hurting real bad. Martinez couldn’t even get this one right. What about Tech next week? Their option offense is in better shape.
Martinez needs to be fired or put back as a position coach, Bobo needs to find work elsewhere and let’s find us some guys with guts and a sense of grit.
I want my Georgia team back - not this bunch of sorry sad-sack morons!!!!!!!!!!

OK..Enough is enough!!!!All this talk about how “talented”we are needs to STOP!!!!!Where is all this talent we are supposed to have?Stafford,Moreno,Mass and Green that’s it on the Offense. The lineman are OK..most of these kids were 3 star recruits that are playing on the line.ON defense Curran and Allen are the only 2 guys who have played well..Atkins has been OK..So WHERE THE HELL IS ALL THIS FRIGGIN TALENT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE????I tell you..it DON’T EXIST!!!!!We have some decent players to be sure more than the average team. But this STAR-STUDDED ballclub we are not and it’s about time some of you loons figure that out!!I don’t give a damn what some recruiting service SAYS is a top rated class…how the perform on the field is the judge.By the way if you go back 4 years on this Recruiting thing you will see that more than HALF of these “bluechips”haven’t even SEEN the frigging field!!!!So do you think the coaching staff all of a sudden forgot how to coach?IDIOTS!!!!!!!! If you can’t look out on the field and see that we are NOT all that talented individually at a lot of positions you don’t know JACK about football!!!!!

I wont bash other peoples prospective on the dawgs, but i will say this, Georgia is a good football team, not a great one! The athletes and talented players make this team good enough to win 9 or ten games a year. The coaching prevents it from being a great team. Whats puzzling is that some Georgia fans accept just being good and win 9 or ten games is good enough, well thats what seperate us from Florida, Alabama, and LSU their fans realize that the big picture here is winning national championships. The recruiting of top notch players is going well right now, but when these kids realize that if they go to Ga that they will never have an opportunity to win a national championship because they will never beat Florida in our own side of the division, they will decide to go elsewhere. It happened to Tennessee. They cant beat Florida and now the kids are going to USC, Florida or Texas. Thats why Jarvis Jones wont commit to Georgia, he knows they will never beat florida. You heard it from me first he will commit to Florida soon. Admimistration at Georgia will see this 3 or 4 years down the road and then Mark Rict will get fired for the many coaching mistakes he has made this year and even ini the south carolina game last year that cost Ga from possibly playing a national championship game. Good man, marginal at best head coach.

Luke, Get a life. A wife supporting her husband and his team is a good thing. A man’s game? What the heck is that supposed to mean? I suppose you will be in marital therapy soon if you’re not already there.
Get a life. If you think CMR or Willie Martinez needs to be fired for a 9-2 record, you obviously need to have some other hobbies.
Examine yourself and stop picking on people working hard to do their jobs.
Come on Dawg fans, show some spirit and quit getting so caught up in your pride. I’m embarrased by the things I’m reading.

It’s such seems to be a lot of everything. Poor Coaching, lack of execution, non-motivated. It’s like they are just walking on eggs waiting for something to go wrong.
We are the joke of the conference right now. We should be playing like Florida right now and yes that hurt saying that. No reason.
Come on Team put it together for one game. Kick Tech in the Teeth. They are aweful cocky over on the other blog. And, I can’t blame them.

You doggies are funny. One week the Rev. is next to God, and now you say “never thought Richt was the coach to take them to a national championship”. So which is it?
Let me help you, he’s overrated and overpaid. From the stupid dog trick of sending the team out to celebrate a TD to letting his wife pour water on the sidelines. Last I checked, there about 40,000 kids at the Athens Correctional College, that will have a diploma that will only qualify them to pour water. Why not give a kid a job?

This is like watching a train wreck in slow motion- every week. No Discipline, missed assignments, missed tackles, holding on at the end against bad teams (when we havent been blown out by by good ones). Nothing against Auburn, but they are terrible this year. They have shown zero ability on offense, until they play us. I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that Coach Richt cant motivate or control his players, and that his coaches are out-coached every week. The only good team we have beaten to get to 9-2 is LSU, and I thought they were going to come back the way they were moving the ball at will in the 4th. This shouldnt be happening with the amount of talent and depth on our roster. I love this team, but it’s painful watching them right now. Richt has to make some changes or no one is going to take him (or the team)seriously. And the next player to commit a personal foul- no matter who- should have to take off his pads and sit on the bench!

UNDERACHIEVERS
BOZO MUST GO
With the offense, the game plan should have been control the clock and keep a weak defense off the field. But No - We keep throwing those long low percentage passes thst keeps the offense off the field.
AND THE PENALTIES * THEY DONT LOOK WELL COACHED BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT*

They are young adults who have minds of their own and do what they think is best. I like to see all you complainers start coaching and make all the players do a excellent job every game. It Simple. They are simply not prepared. I have said Willie needed to go last year, and have given Bobo the benefit of the doubt, but I believe he needs to go too. No motivation at all. GT will take it this year. D has been horrible all year and for sure can’t stop the option. I have been a hard core UGA fan for 35 years and I would say that this 2008 UGA team is the worst 9-2 team I have ever seen. They are extremely lucky they are even bowl eligible.

Georgia is not a very well coached team. Defense has been terrible for three years and is getting worst. A good coach, with the players Georgia has had come thru the past few years, would have one a National Championship. Richt can’t win the big game. His laid back approach to everything shows in his team’s play on the field.

aLL YOU FORMER ALL STARS ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT…..Georgia should fire Richt and Martinez and Bobo because, hell, who wants to be 9-2 with the two losses coming at the hands of the number 1 team in the nation and the number 3 team. Lots of teams have won 9 games this year including wins in Columbia, Baton Rouge and Tempe—-and lots of teams have finished in the Top Ten 4 out of the last 5 years and lots of teams have won 81 games in the last 8 years…..and lots of Georgia teams have beaten Auburn three straight times……If we act fast and fire Richt now maybe we can snatch up Phil Fulmer——or maybe even get Ray Goff or Jim Donnan to come out of retirement….and maybe God will give Erk Russell a furlough and send him down from heaven to coach the defense…I bet Jeff Shutltz has never even worn a jock strap, much less played a down of football—-like all of you other armchair quarterbacks who sit on your butts and type on blogs……sure the season has failed to meet expectations, but when your expecation is to be perfect, that happens sometimes…..So you fairweather fans need to get a life—-or maybe just switch over and pull for Tech…..losers like you would be right at home on the Flats….

I was pulling for Auburn, maybe drastic things will bring change. I was at the Tech game when they killed Miss St. the score was 40 somthing to zip in the 4th qtr with the 3rd stringers on the field that the Miss bulldogs scored. Miss is giving Alabama fits right now. Swami says Ga.Bullchumps 6 and Tech 41. This is sad. Also Swami says Gators 41 Ala. 10. Fla wins national championship again. Bobo isnt ready for prime time and Willie should comit suicide , he already has comitted ocupational suicide. May he rest in peace. If they loose all from here we can bury the corpse. Think what life will be like when Stafford and Moreno leave. We will be Tennessee, God forbid.By DB

Jeff, Terence Moore is the one who stole your bottle of Prozac. Either that or you decided to switch attitudes with him. In any case, the Dawgs have managed to improve in most phases of our game and are the top tanked 2 loss team in the BCS. True, we have not put it all together for two halves but the injuries we suffered to key line players at the beginning of the season were the biggest reason UGA didn’t come up to expectations this year. If Stafford (of Stafford and Knowshon) return next year, Georgia could have the season many were hoping for in 2008.

I’ve decided to take a more positive approach to this post…
Thank you Willie for doing an AWESOME job on getting this defense ready for this game. It was apparent that you worked REALLY, REALLY hard all week long on this. Don’t worry about all the bad press, even though we fans don’t know jack about football we could obviously tell that your players didn’t execute the plan you put in place. Again, thank you for the wonderful job!!!!
Defense, okay so you didn’t really execute Martinez’s schemes too well but you did slow them down. Thank you for slowing the Auburn offense down and keep them from scoring 38 points or more. Sure, you didn’t really achieve ANY of the three goals you set for yourselves - but hey, you actually set goals! Thank you for setting goals. Thank you.
Offense and Bobo: Thank you for your contribution in winning this game for the fans. Bobo has done a wonderful job planning for this game and it really showed. What some may look at as “shooting yourselves in the foot” was obviously the result of poor turf conditions and that wind was REALLY, REALLY blowing hard.
Special Teams: ummm….
CMR: thank you for being the great person you are! Thank you for all the great work you do outside the program and being involved in the community (I just love it when that big Ford rolls through Hartwell). Thank you for being such a great friend to Willie Martinez - you keep standing strong with him. I think you both are doing a wonderul job!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’m going to be sick….

Second of all, what ever happened to boosting moral in a person by saying good things? In my younger days, we called people of this caliber two-faced! You are all ridiculously crazy about the DAWGS when they are playing well, but when they aren’t, you bicker and complain and turn your backs on them. I guess if someone talked about how badly you did something ALL the time, you would go at it kind of like the DAWGS have been since Alabama. If you are a die-hard fan like you claim to be, quit crying like babies and Get behind your team or go find you another one to whiplash!

Agree 100% with this article. Undisciplined, poorly-coached teams do stupid things that lose them ball games. This team is playing below its talent level in almost every aspect of the game.

I know one of the coaches personally, the problem lies with the defensive coaches, period. i promise you if one of my players got a personal foul call he would get his a* off the field probably the rest of the game.rashad jones is a frigging joke. Asher Allen is alone on the corner. no D-line whatsoever. Renny Curren is a midget who gets blocked 8 out of ten times Danelle Ellerby is awful….I could go on and on…..But Go dogs…..ok that being said, i feel better, the D-line gives no help in Martinez styled defense therefore the backers are left on their own with no plan….

I jumped on the Fire Willie Martinez bandwagon a long time ago, but I regretfully admit today that he wasn’t 100% of the problem. We had guys in the right position on every play they scored on, granted some plays they caught the ball when maybe we could have swated it away, but we had the two safetys backing up the plays to keep the big plays from happening…so basically what I am saying is Willie Martinez called the right calls most of the day, our players just failed to make the tackles, and when they did make a tackle, chances are it was out of bounds a la Mr. Jones tackle for a loss/ penalty. So yeah Willie probably still needs to go, but todays game doesnt lie on his shoulders, it lies on the players lack of pride on the field. GATA has truly lost its meeting, its Get after them if you dont have to put too much effort into it.

I hear all of this complaining about the coaches but I don’t buy it on either side of the ball. We’ve got very good coaches. We’ve got leadership problems on the defensive side of the ball I believe. I can’t explain the problems on the offensive side because Stafford is a good leader. I sure heard of a lot of mis-throws today from Stafford so I think he was just having a bad day. He’s had an awfully good season this year so let’s cut him some slack for this game. We are still having O-line problems and that’s the reason the running game isn’t as strong. The defensive performance is just subpar and I don’t buy that Martinez is the only problem. The players are the ones that have to tackle and demonstrate leadership to improve the team during the game. You just don’t see that happening. Disappointing.

I copied this from a buddy of mine who is a minister and a UGA fan. He emailed me this after the Florida loss, but I like what he has to say. Hope ya’ll enjoy:
“As I sit here, drinking from my Georgia dixie cup, I have to say that I’m going to remain faithful. But that doesn’t necessarily mean much in today’s world. People are faithful everyday. Week after week, we all faithfully go to work. We might not exactly enjoy going to work, but we go. Some of us are just there. Sometimes we do a little more than required but for the most part we do just enough to get paid. Its the same across the board. You find people in church Sunday after Sunday. Sadly, the pastor’s sermon doesn’t mean anything to them, it has no direct impact on their life, but they are there, being faithful. So thats what I’m going to do. I’ll be faithful. I’m going to continue to watch the games and drink from my dixie cup. But I’m not doing anymore pregame smack talk. I won’t yell at my TV anymore. Hooray if we win, but nothing more…just being faithful”

Hey Coach Richt…..the first thing I’d do is make Stafford get a haircut. Hell he even “looks” undisciplined. Second, I’d make him wear matching sleeves under his jersey and have him quit wearing one long red sock. Tell me, how are you going to have a disciplined offense when the leader of that offense wants to call attention to himself. If he’d spend a little time after practice throwing balls into a trash can in the corner of the endzone maybe he could throw a fade route that could be caught. AJ Green bailed him out on that throw to take the lead late in the game. Horrible throw it was, lucky the dawgs are but the least you can do for the Dawg Nation is have Stafford look a little more presentable. Thank you for being a good man coach, now I’ll hang up and watch Coach Saban show me how to coach his team up.

I thought the dawgs won before reading this article. I had to go back and review the score to make sure the dawgs did win. What is wrong with this sports writer. The officials were horrible. took a TD away from UGA and called penalties that did not exist. UGA has played 17 men all year. They rarely get a call and routinely get nailed with marginal calls or flat out wrong calls. Cover GT and leave UGA to someone else.

GET A GRIP!! People, we are 9-2, Freshman all over the O-line, tattered D-line. Yes, we have playmakers but most educated Football fans know that it is usually won or lost at the line of scrimmage.
To j-law: CMR is NOT 19-18 against ranked teams, he is 26-15 Atleast get your facts straight before bashing a GREAT COACH!
He is also now 30-4 in opponents Home stadiums (23 of those wins are SEC)
HE is 10-2 against ranked teams in their stadiums
So, again before you come on here and spout some BS go do a little research.
Any true UGA fan truly knows that what this coach has done is truly special, as he has returned our program to national prominence. We have been a break here or there in the last few years from being able to play for the big one…
13-1 in 2002 2005, undefeated until DJ Shockley got hurt 2007, we were a dropped pass in USC(e) game, or a kick in the UK-UT game, or a stop in the UT-VU game, from playing LSU (and probably beating them) to go on and play OSU…
He is the coach for the job.

Yes, this team doesn’t play like I expected them to. But then again, it’s tough with 18-22 yr olds, you don’t know for sure how they’ll react.
But I have to say, for a team with this much success, many UGA fans are the biggest set of whiners this side of the Plains. UGA won in spite of adversity, in spite of bad plays. No, it wasn’t pretty, and hasn’t been a lot this season (at least of the defensive side of the ball). But winning is winning.
Grow up, UGA fans, and appreciate what you have. MR may realize one day his fan base is part psychotic and decide to go coach at a school that would appreciate an 80% winning percentage (better by far than any other modern era UGA coach.

i can’t believe that people are calling out martinez for the “failures” of this UGA team. Yes…Alabama put up plenty of points, Florida put up a huge amount….but look at how much talent those teams have and the rankings of those teams. That’s our two loses right there. If we would have won those two games, people would be congratulating martinez for doing such a great job against teams like auburn, vandy, etc. since the defense held out enough for the offense to give the team a chance to win. And who would want to fire bobo?? Aren’t the dawgs ranked at or near the top of the sec in offense?? The fact is the dawgs got burned twice by two good teams and have held their own if not more against all the others period! All you fair weather fans need to find another team to gripe about or learn to live and die with this team. The fact is the dawgs got burned twice by two good teams and have held their own if not more against all the others period! All you fair weather fans need to find another team to gripe about or learn to live and die with this team. We’re having a great year aside from the expectations….this is a great team and you need to learn to get behind one especially when they’ve come out with a victory no matter what the point spread was. GO DAWGS!!!

This was the first time I can definitively say that UGA was out coached. And I don’t think the other sideline did anything to earn that. I thought Georgia coaches coached scared.
The OFFENSE moved the ball, but abandoned the run in critical situations. Bogged down in the red zone continuously (big surprise). Play calling was good at times and lousy at times. The DEFENSE played well for most of the game. But, I saw Martinez blitz more in this game than I’ve seen in a long time. Answering his critics? Well he should not have in this game. The defense was fine until dogs blitzed. I don’t know if it was CMR or coach Martinez who ordered all the blitz’, but you CAN NOT blitz just because the fans are criticizing! You did not need to blitz in this game. Auburn’s offense was horrible until we gave them an opening by blitzing. The SPECIAL TEAMS was horrible (no need to explain).
Special teams play is an indication of discipline and coaching. I want to think the coaching is fine, but the discipline is horrible.
Discipline, Discipline, Discipline…
UGA should have beaten Auburn by no less than 21 points today. Instead, they were fortunate to get a win.
This season has been a real disappointment! Not because of the 2 lost games, but because of the quality of play (or lack there of) the entire season.

The reason CMR’s wife is the water girl on the sideline is because she wants to do what she can to help the team and being the watergirl is how she does it. They don’t even speak during the game. She’s there because she wants to contribute.

We have seen it all year- bad coaching, zero discipline, both corporately and individually. It’s time for CMR to make the tough decisions he is paid millions to do- Fire Martines & Bobo or CMR will be the 3rd ex-coach still on UGA’s payroll. This team is unfocused, squanders their talent, and is totally undiciplined. This year has been a total waste. And you people pay tens of thousands of dollars for season tickets to this garbage? I’m a UGA Alumn, and I am shocked at this farce. Winning record or not, this season has been a joke for poise, discipline, and professionalism.

He does not have the skills to move us any further forward on a regular basis.

DB,
as long as you are happy to be the Wisconsin of the SEC and play second fiddle the elite teams, help yourself. The SEC championships CMR delivered came when Zook was running UF and Bama had no one worth a crap in the head coaching positions. those programs dont like mediocrity like you so you can sukk hind tyt and be happy with it. enjoy having a “super nice” man as your coach if that is what you want out of your football team. PS tell your wife I said “hi” as I am sure you are probably blogging with her by your side because you are “Super-Duper” like CMR and his watergirl

Good, well coached teams do not drop important games by catastrophic scores. The Alabama and Florida games revealed some very bad coaching. The Dogs were embarrassed. Badly. That sort of thing never happens in a supposedly “good” year. In fact, I can’t think of any Dooley coached team which dropped big games so badly in a year in which they went 7-3 or 8-2. So alarm bells need to be going off. I am willing to give CMR the benefit of the doubt THIS year. NEXT year, I am not. And I think most Dog fans agree with me. If you’re going to lose, do it while remaining in contention. But we need well coached teams that consistently scare their opponents. I don’t think Florida is particularly concerned about the Georgia game any more because we aren’t that competitive.
And one more thing: Martinez needs to find another job.

We need some help with that.
How or Who to do it? I don’t know.
Slitz doesn’t either. He’s a freaking writer for God’s sake.
Bobo is 22 & 4 as OC. Could you or Slitz do better? Now “THAT” would be a hoot to watch.
CWM isn’t going anywhere until after 2009 if this continues. CMR will give it one more year.
I’m sure Damon Evans could use a few laughs.

A complete lack of fundamentals on Defense. I am so sick of seeing d-backs give the “shoulder slam” tackle. Wrap up!!
Anyone catch Ellerbe on the pass when he literally just stood there…meanwhile Curran runs past him, wraps up and tackles the guy.

I hate to say it, but Shultz is right. I’m happy for the win and am not calling for anybody’s head. However, you don’t see a Saban or Urban Cryer-coached team make these mistakes so consistently. I want Coach Richt to stay, but he is going to have to come up with another one of his personality changes to make this into a disciplined, sound team. Look at Alabama. There is no way they have more talent. They act like they’ve been there. In a short amount of time Saban has brought confidence to this team. They are workmanlike and rarely, rarely make dumb mistakes. Georgia made more mistakes in a quarter and a half of this game than Alabama has made all year. Again, it is not because of talent, it is because of the coaches lack of ablility to instill on-field discipline into these talented players. GOOO Dawgs. Hopefully, they can have their first complete game against Tech.

It is painfully apparent that absolutely NONE of these “posters” have either (1) played a down of football outside of the parking lot variety and (2) couldn’t coach their way out of a game with Vassar. While the season hasn’t been what we all wanted, it’s a 9 win season. Let’s not forget that the same gentlemen(and I use the term loosely)that are screaming for all of the coach’s heads were the same ones that fall all over themselves to pat themselves on the back when the DAWGS win. YES, there appears to be a lack of discipline on defense. YES, the coaches have to take the blame for that. But remember, this is the very same scheme that has produced great winning seasons each year since the Goff/Donnan teams.
. Losing the big games? Florida and Alabama are simply superior teams this year.
. Having the “opportunity” to play for the title is what everyone wants. The Dawgs have done that each year in the Richt era. . SINCE THE 2002 SEASON, THE DAWGS HAVE PLAYED IN THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME MORE THAN ANYONE IN THE EAST.

Thanks Jeff for making my pont I made last week after the Kentucky debacle. We win becasue we have better skill players, who will play on Sundays soon, Not because Rcht or Martinez or anyone else has coached them or the team to perform at maximumm peak performance.
It often looks like a back yard game where your team has the best QB and receiver, and thats all that really matters. It’s just good enough to win.

Yeah! we suck! lets fire Richt, Martinez and Bobo! Lets bring in Fulmer or Bowden or even Tuberville (hell we may could even get Petrino for half a season) We won for God’s sake! We have been tagged as penalty prone so we are gonna get called for more… refs are humans too and are looking for them more! Yes some were truly legit but others were questionable! We have had a monster schedule this year and only one team can win it all… we may not have met expectations but other teams like Alabama have far exceeded expectations while the USCs and Oklahomas are always the media darlings! Just because we didn’t embarrass the first two teams we played does not justify us dropping in the polls… how would you feel if you took care of business at work but got passed over for promotion or demoted because someone below you was sexier than you? Now picture that same scenario if you were 19-22 yrs old………….

I think the players are too spoiled. The lack of discipline is unbelievable. The defense should go break out the tackling dummies. As far as Bobo how many times can one coach have a brain fart. You drive the ball down field with ease and then you throw a fade again. He should also fall out of love with the deep pass.Moreno leads the league in rushing for a reason.I can’t even begin to talk bout what the defense needs.

We have survived an Auburn team that is below.500 the same for a Kentucky team, and a Lsu team that was getting crushed by a TRoy team? I guess the loss to BAMA last week took all their fire away. We have almost allowed 2 rooky QB’s (whose best attributes are running) to beat us. THank goodness they didn’t have a good QB, the same goes for Vandy. If any of those 4 teams had better than avg. QB”S all of you Pollyannas wouldn’t be so excited about being 8-2, because you would be 4-6. We have been a last second interception or a missed interfernce call from being a losing football team.

AGAIN!!! I remind you UGA fans that CMR has won his games against weaker teams. But again he is 18-14 against FLA,SC,TENN, and Auburn. If you like 9 and 10 win seasons you LOVE CMR. If you want an NC we have to start looking somewhere else. You may love CMR but find me on the website and media guides where there is a Special Teams Coach listed and I’ll kiss your A**. He belives that winning does the trick, yet Martinez and Fabrias make the our team look like I-AA defenses and special teams. Thats right, Fabrias is the special teams coach. Also the defensive ends coach. Guess which two parts of our team had let us down???? But CMR says it’s the rest of the teams fault!!! Bring in Mike Leach lets run an offense that we all love and kick the crap out of the SEC. Get Leach before TENN. does. Those of you who disagree with this post about Martinez and Fabrias are only kidding themselves!!!!!!!!

We have salvaged a season filled with high expectations, injuries, and the most inconsistent play that I’ve seen in my 41 yrs of following the Dawgs.I call it “lack of discipline” i.e.stupid penalites, lack of knowledge of the rules and just plain “breakdowns”. We were so ill prepared for Alabama and Florida that it’s sickening!

I know CMR’s mantra is ‘a win is a win is a win’ and he justifiably pointed out after the game that it was our 30th win in an opponents stadium in 8 years. That is fantastic! Congratulations to him and to the Dawgs on going to 9-2.
However, I am not as sure a win is a win is a win in our case. We are clearly living on the edge week after week. We were very fortunate to win the last two weeks over vastly inferior opponents. Sure, if we were 11-0 we could say everyone is saving their best game for us. But we cannot be that blind. Auburn’s extremely anemic offense did its best job of the year against us.
The players and staff have to share the blame. Today players were finger pointing on the field; that’s not Georgia football and uncharacteristic of a Richt team. The players that aren’t playing with that ‘Us against the world’ attitude and those losing focus shouldn’t play.
Finally, we have to trust CMR’s judgment. There is NO ONE better to coach the Dawgs, but he cannot be as passive about our problems as he seems. I would love for him to show a little fire and really believe it would reassure us a bit. It is up to him to make the best personnel decisions in the interest of the football team. The Team, the university and the fans deserve no less.
Win or lose they are my Dawgs, but they are killing me with the continued UNDERACHIEVING!
Go Dawgs!

Tech Ramblin’? Junkyard Dawgs means another time, another space. The Dawgs, now a BULLDAWG NATION!, under Richt Eastwood are pretty cool, more disciplined than ever. The system is adjusting to the new clock, and to the faster paced teams that have it together: Florida, USC, Texas, Texas Tech. They are the vanguard of the new, ridiculous, faster, chaotic games that leave us breathless. Are they better than the DAWGS? Looks like it, but not by much. I have never seen a faster DAWG TEAM. They will learn their lessons. They will be back next year mighty tough. Mark my words. And I am now a supporter, as of today, of Willie Martinez. I have had my doubts, I remember Tennesseee, I remember Gainsville and Blacked out. But he is the right fit for the system. We need to keep pressuring him, but enough with these firing calls. It is understandable. But it is not the answer. Unity, unity, unity BULLDAWG NATION! I know you love them DAWGS. Bless you for it. But let’s keep fire under their feet but stop the name bashing. Willie, a funny name, yes, but a fine coach under an even better system, coach Richt. They need more discipline, and they are realizing that with the new clock. That really is what is STRUCTURING Ball games. I do believe that Blitz packages are the way to beat the elite teams, and to put away those wrestling dust kickin’ other SEC teams. Sick of all this B.S. Players make coaches…..rarely do coaches make players. Recruiting services are overrated at best. They only improve your odds of signing talented players but at the end of the day they still have to perform. Some kids peak in High School others may not come on the radar until college. Coaches can’t control any of that.
We have been undisciplined all season in areas that one would think we might improve on. When a team plays with mostly fresh and soph they make mistakes and are inconsistant in nature.
By the way did any of you blitz happy idiots notice what happened today when we blizted???? One thing we all should have learned by now is how CMR learns from his mistakes. He makes adjustments to his own coaching style or decisions when needed. There have been a couple of questionable decisions that have been compounded by poor execution and just plain old bad luck. The onside kick in the UF game was gutsy but probably an ill-timed call. The time out at the end of the third quarter of the AU game to make them kick into the wind looked at the time to be a good decision. However, CMR did not think the riverboat gambler would go for it on his own 20. In hindsight, if it had been 4th and a yard or more instead of only a few inches it would have been the right call. If the time out had not been called and the quarter ended, CTT probably would have kicked with the wind and a 90yd drive would never have happened. CMR will study these plays and this entire season and make the proper adjustments. Remember how he had poor clock management and did not run the ball enough in his first couple of seasons but made the necessary changes in subsequent years. CMR will do that again. However, the comments on a lack of discipline are absolutely correct especially concerning penalties. Once again CMR will realize whatever punishments are being enforced are not working and need to be changed. We are all disappointed the season has gone this way but we also need to realize what an asset CMR is and that he will continue to get better at what he does. A quick check of his record should end any debate about his coaching ability. Those of us real UGA fans who survived the 90’s know what bad coaching really looks like. CMR has brought us to another level already. He will take us to the ultimate goal. Don’t be surprised if its in 2009.

WM and the defense have taken their fair share of (justified) criticism. However, at this point, I am becoming even more frustrated with the TOTAL LACK of killer instinct from our offense. Every win we have had this year has been more difficult than it had to be, and a lot of it falls back on the offense. Four that jump immediately to mind are South Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee, and Vandy. All 4 of those games could have easily been put away by our offense towards the end of the game, but we always find a way to not-quite get that last first down, or bog down and miss a FG, or fumble a snap, or whatever the excuse is for not closing out the game. In all three cases, it was the defensive unit that came through for us at the end of the game, not the offense. It seems like our offense plays fairly well all game, then freezes up at the end, whereas our defense plays poorly all game, but then steps up at the end. I don’t understand how we can’t get everyone on the same page and eliminate some of the mental mistakes. We have won in spite of our coaching this year, not because of our coaching (except for Searels).

If anyone thought we would finish the season undefeated you were delusional to start with. 9-2 is a season at least 80 other teams would love to have. The key injuries on both sides have hurt us this year much more so than the coaching. Look at the overall winning percentage of CMR. I’ll take it any day! I am frustrated by our defense and special teams play; but keep in mind our field goal kicker is a true freshmen. He will get better. I don’t understand why our D plays so far off the ball and seem afraid to tackle, they think a shoulder hit will suffice. Can our coaching decisions improve? Of course it can, but the execution is still on the coached not the coaches. God Bless CMR and GO DAWGS!!!!!!

Coach Richt needs to address these coaching problems or his class act will be history in a couple of years. Saban brought a well-coached team in and laid a whipping on this undisciplined bunch of thugs….Meyer gave them the same treatment…Spurrier, Tuberville, and Brooks would have done the same, had they had more talent. I did notice “take-me-out-coach-these-guys-are-too-good-hot-dog-with-extra-spicy-mustard-moreno” even managed to stay in the game, with Auburn’s anemic defense. What a bunch of thugs and clowns!

Hey! Get over it already!
Bottom line the Dawgs are 9-2 with the two losses against the number 1 and 3 teams in the nation, playing the most difficult schedule in college football.
Listen: it is very hard to win consistently. Easy on these Dawgs, they have done a great job this year. Remember all the injuries up front on both sides of the ball?
We can revisit the other stuff (like coaching) in February.
Well played dawgs - you got the W!

UGA fans….you are not playing a “monster schedule.” The only really good teams on it are Florida and Alabama. The SEC isn’t all that this year. You are not worthy of a top 10 ranking.
You have no discipline because your coach came from FSU where there is none. He should kick these guys off the team for drinking and driving, etc. That would change the mentality on the field too.

To all,
When we beat Tech (and for all on here, especially the Tech fans, we will beat Tech) and win yet another New Years day bowl game OUR record will be 22 and 4 the past two years. All of you “throw under the bus” supposed Dawg fans need to get a life. Yes, we have our share our issues and I too wonder about our Coordinators at times, but make no mistake MR is the right coach. Check his record and every other Head coach in the land since he has been here. Who would you really want? Have you seen the names going around for the Tenn/Clemson jobs? Not impressive!! We will win a MNC at some point. If you are a true fan, say your concerns but don’t continue bash our team in these blogs everyday. Our players hear this crap as well. If you must, go cheer for another team and if you are a Tech fan, please get enough passion about your own team so you can at least sell out your games so the “Please buy our tickets” ads everywhere will go away. It only takes about 55K seats.

Lou Holtz cited an interesting statistic. Prior to that planned celebration penalty against Florida last year, Georgia was one of the teams with the least penalties. Since then they are one of the most. Apparently someone on the coaching staff forgot to tell the players that poor sportsmanship and undisciplined behavior was a one time gig. Instead it’s become a habit. That one big win against Florida may have cost this program alot.

Brothers, I feel as you do about the way Georgia is playing and it bothers me to no end. Do you think we have become the WISCONSIN of the SEC? Florida and Alabama are in another league and have, arguably, the same talent. I believe we need a defensive master with an attitude at coordinator/asst head coach to turn this softness around. “Finishes the drill” has become more of a commercial slogan for UGA than a reality. Let’s get better.

9 and 2 and still not happy? Are you talking with your mouth full?? Most of us who write these notes sit on our sofa’s all weekend (including the Sportswriters) and pretend we know what’s going on, how to coach, how to manage the circus of big-time college athletics, and how to impress our friends and co-workers as we wander off to church and then work on Monday. Let ‘em play, let ‘em coach, and remember that we are 9 and 2 and have only lost to the number 1 and number 3 team’s in the country, that’s all. Spoiled? Us???

As a long time season ticket holder, I ,as well as others, expect more from this team year in and year out than what we are getting. What I mean are Quality wins. We only played two teams this year that are upper tier teams. We got blown out by both. Even in a loss , UGA should be in every game until the end. Not having the game be over with by half-time.And oh by the way, did anybody else notice last night how easy Vanderbilt controlled Kentucky? Sorry folks, I am just tired of a program under achieving so much.

Dawg fans, I appreciate what you are saying about how good the program is and how lucky we are to have coach Richt. And you are right. But we need to raise the bar.
WE MUST WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE RELEVANT.
A reminder of teams that have one a nat’l championship since our glory of 1980: Clemson, BYU, Ga Tech, Washington.
Why is Florida, SoCal, and Texas always in the hunt? We have the same resources and talent. Drop the argument about tough schedule and touch conference. That is something we should overcome. I have concerns for anyone satisfied with this season.

Wow, after reading Shultz and the GA coverage in the AJC this morning, I had to turn to ESPN to make sure I was watching the correct game. GA won; they are 9-2. I just feel bad for the coaches and players who come off the field after fighting for a win and have to answer negatvie questions and read the stupid sh** that people with absolutely no athletic or coaching ability write on these blogs. Time for some of you to get real lives and quit living through college kids playing a game!!

I believe in what CMR is doing at UGA. He is a good coach, recruits well and knows the game of football. I feel certain he is VERY aware of the situation they are in w/ the close games they have won this year that probably should not have been so close and he is aware of the defensive struggles this year. I believe he is thinking about this constantly and will find a way to tighten things up. I also have a feeling that 99% of the people on this blog that bash the team every week are not true fans or even UGA fans at all (heck, two of my bets buddies are goofy Tech fans and they bash UGA every week = winners envy!). I bet most of these same people could have cared less about this season if UGA were not picked pre-season #1. CMR did not get to this point by being stupid. He knows there are some definite issues as do us fans. However, he is not (no decent coach would) bash his players and coaching staff in front of the media. Let’s hope that the team matures and UGA puts it together like true fans know they can.

It should be obvious from the start of the season and before that, that this team is not disciplined. How many times do we see someone getting arrested? Lack of discipline of course your right!!! Georgia is my team for better or worse, but we will never be better than 10-2 without discipline, always teasing us, just good enough to make the Capital One Bowl. Hey Coach Richt, sometimes change is good, get nasty, get mean and stop the insanity……

This is one of the most dissapointing Georgia teams that I can remember, and I’ve seen some bad Georgia teams. It really does appear that lack of discipline, which should be instilled by the coaching staff, is missing. But, we should not be talking about firing anybody. Willie’s defense has been efficient enough to win a majority of games since he took over for Van Gorder. You people forget that these are real people with families and that he devotes a great deal of his life to coaching this team. Martinez and Richt are apart of our UGA family andwhile we should expect greatness, when you are dealing with 18-22 year old kids there are bound to be some kinks. At the very least, give him next year to improve it. For that matter Richt needs to evaluate his own coaching techniques. I think he is a great, young football mind with tons of potential, but I hope he uses this year to learn to be a little tougher and teach players to play with discipline and class. Relax everybody, as bad as it seems we are still 9-2 and have beat Auburn 3 years in a row.

Now we all know who invented college football “style points” that all the top teams go after, week after week, by running up scores & trying to look as pretty as they can!—it’s Jeff Schultz, the Jeffster, the Jeffmeister. Gee, Jeff—you say Auburn went on a “last-minute drive from its own 20.” Impressive drive! Very stylized! Did the Tigers score, on that drive? NO! Hey Jeff: who won the game?!? Don’t tell me it was the team who made several more mistakes on special teams & gave up a football-field full of penalties! How could that happen?
Football fans, and Jeff Schultz, here’s two news flashes: it really ain’t how. It really is how many. After four road games in a row, Georgia’s got nine wins, 2nd place in the SEC East. Same, to this point, as last year, when we finished #2 in the nation. Live it up, guys! Now we get to come back Between The Hedges & take on a Tech team that we’ll probably make look a lot better than they really are!…but here’s one DAWG who could care less, as long as we score one more point than they do…CHOPDAWG

9-2 with the schedule Georgia has played is nothing to be ashamed of. We have played two terrible halves this year - the first half against Alabama and the second against Florida. We still have a very good shot at an 11 win season. Criticizing that kind of result says more about the critic than the one being criticized

I still go back to that shenanigan in Jacksonville that CMR pulled last year against the crocodiles. That stunt is now haunting this team….after the shellacking Florida gave this team, these past two games have exposed a team that is unfocused and needs a lot more confidence. We could have been undefeated going into the Florida game and the results would still have been the same. Problem is, UGA has to play Tebow one more time before it can realistically think about winning the SEC East.

once again a lackluster barley getting by performance. i will let you know the next time i am impressed with a GA win, it has been almost a year now. Bobo is horrible and the defense is worse than Bobo! we did’nt even look good against GA Southern this year. it seems as though Stafford and Moreno are just waiting for their NFL drafts, Moreno sure seems to get tired a lot more this year than last and pulls himself out of the game, wonder why.

I miss the Georgia teams of old. Teams where defense was in the opponent's grill, the players played with intensity AND discipline. I think CMR is a fine man, but it is blatant that he does not discipline as he should. Our players dancing on the sideline and after the Auburn game was sickening. WE DID NOT DESERVE TO DANCE - sorry dogs. Win like FLorida did over South Carolina, and then that is a danceable moment. I was never a Dooley fan, but at least he led with class and discipline. It is embarrassing that our players appear so non-chalant. Richt should have had the entire team running laps after the game, or at least when they returned to Athens!! Teams never, never, never achieve greatness without discipline. Please, Coach RIcht - you must step up. I never thought that I would be embarrassed to be a Georgia graduate and fan. Saturday, watching our players dance after the game was very embarrassing to me. That whole persona is not the Georgia football program that I have loved and followed for over 30 years.By Humper

it appears the coaching staff was caught with their pants down this season..but here are my thoughts: maybe the recruiting isn’t so “Top 5” like we were led to believe..players seem slower, dumber, and more out of shape this year..too many stupid plays and no matter how good a staff is, you can’t change stupid: still the offseason problems continue and Richt’s “dadgummit “approach is now not working..this leads me to believe we are getting players who are picking UGA so they can get away with playing around and goofing off and they don’t think they will really get into too much trouble for it.. discipline is a weakness on this team big time; several coaches have to go..c’mon mark..surely you have to realize that when you accepted the HC job, you would have to make some personnel decisions that would be tough for you..enough with the votes of confidence already..you and you alone can upgrade this staff…get it done son.

The 44 players have to play better as a TEAM (2 deep both sides of the ball for you armchair experts and journalists that have never played the game = 44). The same coaches that coached us to #2 ranking last year are coaching this year. Admit it, these young men have not come together as a well as last years team. A lot of key injuries contributed, but the fact still remains have not come together as a well as last years team. I am sure of one thing proud Dawg fans and not one of the a whining ones! Wow! This blog is amazing. Here are a couple of observations. First of all, would you agree that Spurrier & Miles are good coaches? They have each won national championships so i guess they are pretty good.
Gamecocks are ranked 3rd in total defense in the nation, so I guess their defensive coaches are pretty good, but, gee, they got rocked for 56 points against Florida. They also got beat by Vandy and beat WOFFORD by 10!
LSU beat Auburn, at a time when Auburn was really searching, by 5 points. They also got rocked for 51 points by Florida and 52 by UGA.
I think is is fair to say that Saban and UA are pretty good. They beat KY by 3 and Ole Miss by 4. Was this poor coaching? Or poor on field performance. They just had the number one recruiting class in the nation.
Why do you think UGA attracts great recruits? Probably the coaches are the primary reason. If UGA has great recruits it is because of Mark Richt and staff. However, there is always a chemistry that has to exist for a team to go all the way. UF has it this year. UGA may have it next year….and maybe we won’t. There is only one national champion per year.
Before we throw our coaches and team under the bus we need to consider what is happening in college football in general. Fans also do not know all the things that are happening behind the scenes…the beat writers don’t know either.

Suddenly, everyone forgets about the toughest schedule in the Nation, the injuries, the fact that we have lost to the #1 and #3 team in the Nation, and the fact that Auburn fired their OC and has vastly improved their offense over the past two weeks, and Kentucky changed their QB to a runner type and made their team better. Just fire everybody you say. How spoiled we have become to demand termination of quality coaches for going 9-2 and probably 10-2 for the year. Dawg fans, man up. Auburn actually wont the game with Georgia yesterday except for one technicality: Auburn forgot the number one rule in football: Take the points you’re given. They had a fourth down withing field goal range with 3 minutes left on the clock and they didn’t take the 3. At the end of the game they had an easy field goal for the win.
Georgia escaped with a W, but this W is as big an embarrassment as the W in the White House.

Ok, here is what I see in Mark Richt and our beloved DAWGS. We start the season preseason number 1 (so we had only one way to go…down) and dropped two spots without virtue of a loss. We were all scratching our heads wondering “what the heck is going on”? The reason we don’t get the national respect we desire is because the national media is objective about our team and our coach. They (media)may admire all of the wonderful attributes that Richt carries, but they see him for what he is…a great man, great recruiter, not so much coaching genius. It may be unfair to put Richt in a category that he may not be qualified to hold.
The only way that Mark & our beloved DAWGS are going to progress to the “next level” is for him to take full responsibiity/accountability (be objective) for his & staff’s short comings, and make changes.

Sometimes things just don’t go your way. The team was overhyped at the beginning of the year and the talk got out of hand and then the players started reading their own clips. Each time Georgia is ranked high in the preseason they do not meet expectations. If they are ranked out of the top ten then they respond differently. Injuries to the O line have hurt tremendously. The O line will be great next year no matter who the Qback is going to be. The defense needs help. No pressure up front and that is where it all starts. The corners could be All American and with no pressure they will get beat. Tech will play very tough and with a desire to stop the streak so the Dawgs better be prepared. If this is Georgia’s down year then we should be so lucky!

What happened to the big hitting safties that UGA fans have come accustomed to? I really believe we have one of the most talented linebacking groups in the country, but i haven’t seen a good lick by our defense all year. We should fire Martinez.
We should fire Bobo.
Heck, we should fire CMR.
We should fire any coach, and his entire staff, who loses to 31-0 against VIRGINIA (Dooley, 1979).
We should fire any coach who ever goes 5-5 (Dooley in 1969, 1970) or 5-6 (Dooley in 1977) or 6-5 (Dooley in 1979).
And for sure, we should absolutely always fire any coach who ever has to come from behind in a close SEC game against an inferior opponent (Dooley against Florida in 1980).
WITHOUT QUESTION - we should fire the coach who has given us the longest stretch of 9+ win seasons WE’VE EVER HAD.

Hey Schultz, let us start with your words…. “There is AN saying…..” Ummm, you are a journalist, right? What the hell is up with, “an saying..”?
Your journalistic ability aside, let’s see what these mediocre Dawgs do to GT in two weeks. A win makes it 10 and I’ll take that any year, no matter what.
A four week in a row road trip and we win three. I’ll take that. A 5-0 road record, I’ll take that.
A team out of sync with the injuries, lack of team leadership, oh wait, they are sitting on the bench injured from day one(Owens and Sturdivant), some peculiar play calling and some very bad officiating, I can live with, for today, but to hear you call out Coach Richt who has managed to get the Bulldogs to be a consistent top 25 team, as they will be the only team to do so in the past 12 years, and that will include this year…. knock on wood.
Thanks for ripping on the Dawgs though, as I am sure you do so for responses. I didn’t want to cave in and aid your pathetic article by doing so, but you sir, are a mediocre journalist, and hope one day you learn how to use “a” and “an” properly, since it is what you do to earn a living.

I’m not saying that I’m ecstatic about this season, but let me defend the team that I admitedly love. Most experts (including maybe JS, although I don’t pay enough attention to be sure) picked UGA to be 10-2/9-3 given the schedule. Well, here we are at 9-2 (including 3 of 4 in this last stretch that we’ve been fretting since April) against a schedule not quite as formidable as it appeared on Labor Day, but still #1 most difficult in the NCAA going into this week based on opponents records. Defensive play has been disappointing and the penalties border on criminal, but who’s not inspired by the offense’s role in 3 of the last 4 in spite of having only 7 scholarship O-linemen? At the end of the day, we’ll still have 92,746 in the stands at home (and 15,000 on the road), Ga Tech’s #1 goal each year will be to Beat Georgia and their #1 past-time will be comparing thier coverage with UGAs in the AJC, 1/4 page by 1/4 page (what a miserable existence) and I’ll continue to take my NOBODIES against ANYBODY. Let’s win these next two, finish in the top ten and move on.
Go Dogs.

Almost all of you miss the point here, the offense and deffense are doing what Richt wants. The problem is at the top with no leadership for the coaches or team. Unfortunately for Georgia, Richt interest or not mainly on football and it is beginning to show everywhere. The boys here deserved better than what they’re getting from the coaching staff. I’m suspect the Georgia nation is going to need to come to terms with a head coach who is not interested in what he’s doing.

UGA “fans” have become the biggest whiners in the country. I don’t know whether it’s the “playstation” mentality or just a fundamental lack of knowledge about college football, but THAT is the big UGA embarassment —- not the team or the coaches. You guys would have hated the 1980 season. Oh sure, we were 12-0 and won the National Championship, but some of those wins were neither picture-perfect nor pretty. It’s called reality … deal with it.

Yes, we are 9-2, but we lead the nation in penalties. That is a lack of discipline. We are not playing fundamentally sound football and therein lies my disappointment in this year’s performance. CMR needs to jerk a knot upside these ballplayers’ heads right now or we will be embarrassed by the lowly Jackets. Mark my words. Winning ugly vs. Losing ugly - easy call on that one. Florida and Bama are Top 3 and no other team has beaten us. Have they come close? YES, and that has happened to basically every UGA team I have followed: Dooley, Goff, Donnan, Richt all won close games - some just won more than others. It is a big part of the tradition at Georgia. If we win out, Willie will be back. Had Aubie or Kentucky actually converted, he would have gotten canned. TECH is a must-win every year, AND WE DO!!! And yes the SEC is down a bit, but the ACC has not a single very good team. SEC is Bama and Florida this year, with UGA a solid 3rd. We may end up an ugly 11-2, and it will be just as good as our pretty 11-2 last year. No team in the ACC will win 11.

I told my Auburn fan office mates here in Birmingham that the team that was the least awful would win the game. I was right - both teams were pretty awful yesterday, but Auburn did a little bit better job of being awful, so UGA gets another win in its column. I really wish I could watch my Dawgs play a game and go “Wow, great game, great team” at the end of the game. So much talent so poorly applied. It’s embarrassing.

If the rest of the D played with half the heart of Rennie Curran they would be great. How many penalties has Asher Allen commited this year? He is the most overrated player on the defense. period

I keep hoping this will be the week we play a “complete” game. But no, same old stuff…personal foul penalties, goofy play calling (how many more times are we going to try the fade???), defense can’t tackle, I can go on and on. Thank goodness for Curran on defense. That guy plays his heart out! And it was good to see Moreno not taking himself out of the game as often. I’ll give Richt a pass on this season because of a few key injuries, but if 09 is “more of the same” no doubt, UGA will need a change.

This season has obviously not lived up to expectations, and I think that overall the players and coaches probably did not handle the #1 hype all that well - especially the players. I think UGA is a very talented team, yes, but lets remember that a lot of these kids are young and are making dumb, young mistakes. That does not excuse the defensive secondary looking like the 3 stooges on several plays, however, which in turn allowed a thus far largely inept AU offense to look like, Florida’s. Martinez will NOT be fired. Deal with it, know it, love it. He is NOT going anywhere for now. He will regroup, get his team together, and get discipline back….or next year he might just be fired. As for Bobo, one of the other commentators above said it best - we are putting up points and yardage - AU’s defense all year has been stingy inside the Red…us getting that field goal blocked is another story, and going for it on certain downs when we were in field goal range yesterday was telling about what the future of that position is looking like. Penalties, however, are inexcusable, and I think that will be the one huge factor in the disappointment of this season (I think we might have only one loss if not for excessive boneheaded plays - I mean, UF was beating us regardless, lets just be honest).
As for CMR - he is the best thing to happen to UGA since Vince Dooley. He will not be fired, he should not be fired, and those of you who think that he should be are absolute morons because UGA WILL NOT FIND A BETTER COACH..PERIOD. So, if you want to go back to the Donnan and Goff years of true mediocrity/futility, by all means, keep calling for Richt’s head (or hair, for idiotic rogaine comment, and bashing his wife? what in the world does that have to do with ANYTHING about this season!!! - idiots and fools all!!). AU and TENN fans have reasons to be downtrodden, calling for coaching changes, and over all for being demoralized, we at 9-2 with SEC record of 6-2, and 2-1 so far over the big four rivals, is nothing to fire a coach over. I could tirade more about how thos who are mad are just whiney, impatient children produced by the softening of our generation…but I’ll save that for my book.
This season just needs to end, as much as I hate to say it, and then we can start fresh, go to a good bowl, see who will stay for next year, and get things going again!!! GO DAWGS, BEAT TECH!!!

Richt needs to get back to being the task master and forget being the cheerleader. Ever since he gave up control a couple years ago and all the finite duties he normally performed during the practice week and during game time, there has been a stark correlation in how the Dawg’s have been played with a lack of disciplined and a lack of leadership.
It’s time for Mark to re-evaluate his decision…

I used to take the “win is a win” attitude but its hard these days. 11 games into the season making the same stupid penalties, consistently moving the ball at ease until the red zone then completely changing offensive philosophy down close (get the fade out of the playbook!), making pedestrian offenses look like world-beaters……Bobo has moments you start to have faith (LSU), then disappears. And the defense, where do you start?????

It’s really hard being a UGA fan this year and watching this team. They have to be the worst 9 win college football team ever. Horrible defensive scheme and awful fundamentals. They don’t wrap up, they don’t hit low, they don’t know how to cover, they can’t rush the passer.
The offense once again goes completely limp in the red zone.
Stupid penalties and once again make an absolutely horrible team look good for the 2nd straight week.

Coach Richt, you are depriving your team of one of its prime assets if you do not resume play-calling. You became great at that at Fla State and you were great at it for us. Coach Bobo can remain qb coach or even OC, but the Dawgs will be much more likely to fulfill their tremendous offensive potential if they have you giving us more of the “Hob Nail Boot.”

Dave,
You are the idiot. Clearly the SEC is down and GA should beat a bad Auburn team and a bad KY team by more than 4 points. Richt is doing just enough to keep idiots like you happy. Clearly he is the 4th best coach in the SEC and the new TN hire will push him to 5 in a couple of years. DEMAND MORE THAN MARGINAL WINS OVER BAD TEAMS.

Grey Dog,
Richt was great at FSU? What? FSU had 11 10 win seasons and only won two NCs? Are you kidding me. FSU had great seasons because they didn’t play anybody except when bowl time came around. Bowden has a losing record to every Cane coach with a NC. Count em.,..4. A losing record to Switzer, I believe a losing record to Osborn. Was 6-4 against Spurrier who had a 6-5 bowl record. Spurrier was good because he was at FL and only in the 90s. What has Spurrier done since 2000 at FL, WA or SC.

Last year, CMR was a motivationa; genious. Now, he is a one trick pony that can’t displine anything. How can he let his players dance on the sideline at end of the Auburn game, a game they should have lost. I guess if you lead the nation in yards penalized and personal fouls you have something to celebrate every week. Ga really smashed Auburn in yards penalized 95 to 45, now there is something to dance about.
But,let’s not be too hard on CMR and Willie, they maybe just a little insecure. I think a raise and two long term contract extensions would do the trick.

I just read that the BCS will be tweaking the BCS ranking formula to include a talent per team component. That way, my dismal abilities as a coach can be enhanced by the talent I have on my team and this makes me happy because I can continue to bilk UGA out of millions.
3 games ago I got my smart a— in your face attitude(end zone celebration) handed to me and what I have I done since to show the world the 49-10 was an anomolie.

Besides, some clown has to take Fulmer’s place as the SEC’s loser poster boy. Of course, all you have to do is look at Richt’s hair and it’s apparent he’s a pot-head. He’s probably at home right now, smoking a joint, and laughing his azz off reading these posts.

True, this season has not lived up to our expectations. But, CMR WILL eventualy get a National Championship. It took Mack Brown quite a while to get the Oklahoma monkey off his back at Texas, and we will do the same with Florida - and soon. I’m just as frustrated as anyone else - I’ve been saying “Next year” since ‘81 - but I’m not about to throw a great coach to the wolves over a two loss season.
As for all the Tech nerds who hang around here running their mouths bashing UGA constantly - Your doomsday clock is at two weeks til’ midnight.

You left out the most important ranking in your listings. Alabama 1 Florida 3 No ACC team has been ranked that near the top. SEC Wins NC 2 years in a row and has a good chance of winning it again this year. Your ACC strength philosopy just don’t hold up. SEC has close to 250 players in the NFL by far more than any other conference in the country, enough to field nearly 5 pro teams. Go down to the Ga. Dome on Dec. 6th and see how many thousands of fans are begging to get in to see an SEC game then Watch on tv when the ACC holds their Championship game in JAX. 25,000 seats will be empty, Call it strength if you want to. Jeff, Vince Dooley and Erk Russell won a ton of games with a run only conservative offense and had defensive stops to win games on the last drives too. Were those teams poorly coached too? Or you just scratching for something to fill up a paper? Jeff you also know that SEC officials have a bug up their AZZ for UGA and CMR for last season and until they get over it we’ll be plauged with penalties.

Yep, you said a mouth full Jeff. I agree and hope to heck that the players and coaches read your column. We’re squeaking by many games, and even the win at LSU doesn’t look so great right now. LSU is showing that they are just an average team this year. I guess we are too. Greatness comes as much from execution, focus, coaching, heart, and discipline as it does from pure talent. As much as I love the Dawgs this team just isn’t ‘jellin’. Let’s finish the season with a pounding of the Jackets so we can at least walk away with a smile on our faces.

Good thing for the dawgs that the sec is down this year, especially the vols and auburn. This was definitely the most OVERRATED and OVERHYPED team of all time. They eked out lucky wins over Carolina, Vandy and got really lucky against Kentucky and Auburn. The luck probably changes against the Techsters and in the bowl game. You can only live on borrowed timne for so long.
Did I see Knowshon and several of his thug teammates doing their soulja boy dance on the sidelines. How pathetic and what a bunch of thugs. Good thing Bama and Fla. put these overhyped showboaters in their place so we didn’t have to see that classless nonsense. True to form these punks are more interested in how they look and how they dance then they are in playing convincing football. OVERRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to admit it, but the dawgs are poorly coached. They are ALWAYS out of position on defense and BO BO continues to perplex me with his play calling. No other way to explain the total lackluster performances this year. Urban Meyer, and Nick Saban are a-holes but I would love to have them coaching our team. I’ll always love the dawgs but as long as CMR is there, we will be the Clemson of the SEC. I hope Tennessee doesn’t get that coach from Boise State, or they’ll start kicking our butt again. One more thing, the SEC is down this year. We barely beat a horrible Tennessee team and an even worse Auburn team. Those same teams last year would have beaten us.

sry guys but i have to agree with schultz here. man have we underachieved badly this year. we have all kind of talent, but no discipline and you combine that with poor play calling and that will produce underachievers. im still scratching my head over the stafford QB sweep play calls over the past few games… BOBO, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING??? another thing, why are we still allowing knowshon to take himself out in the middle of a drive? i’ve called it every time against auburn… as soon as knowshon pulled himself out, our drive stalled. somebody tell him to suck it up! we need him the whole drive, not just half of it. there are ways to give him a break without taking him out. play action, or having him stay in and block on a pass. his mere presence gives defense something to worry about. when he goes out, the defense changes their mentality totally. and why is that every time we’re on defense, and a curl route is thrown to either of our corners, they are not even on the screen from playing such soft coverage?? this whole bend but dont break bullcrap is really starting to p** me off because i hate to say but we’re bending but alot of times, we will break too. fire willie martinez please, and may i suggest that mark richt go back to calling the offensive plays. he cant do any worse than bobo.

Here is just a few: Bowl game with West Virginia 38-0 at halftime, 2 years ago (2006) with a 20 plus point lead over Tennessee at home then UT hangs 50 plus points on our defense, last year (2007) at Tennessee down by 30 plus at halftime, Alabama this year (2008)at home down 31-0 at halftime, plus Fla, UK, and almost losing to a BAD Auburn team Saturday!!!! I’m a 1969 Florida grad, BUT I have not checked my brain or my objectivity. I have NO idea of how good Florida is. NO IDEA!!!!! The SEC IS PATHETIC this year. There are 3 TEAMS that any sane person would pay to see in a bowl game—now I’m excluding the FANaticS of such schools as Vandy, Kentucky and South Carolina whose FANaticS would pay to see any matchup. I’m talking people across the country with no connection to any SEC school would only pay to see Florida, Alabama and Georgia. Do you know what the SEC’s SIGNATURE win outside of the conference has been???I think!! It’s Florida’s win over Miami.
Next year Florida’s out of conference foes(ROTFLMAO) are Charleston Southern, Troy and Florida International—DISGRACEFUL!!! Now I have not mentioned FSU—BUT that is DISGRACEFUL as well. The state of a program must be pretty good when you have this many people p** about a 9-2 record. When you have this many people p** about a team that just went on the road and beat an Auburn team that was playing for it’s bowl life. When you have a team that is playing with freshmen and sophomores all across the offensive line. I guess we live in a day and age where you have to win by 30 or it feels like a freaking loss. A win on the road in the SEC is a win on the road in the SEC. Jeff spent a lot of years out in San Francisco watching Pac 10 football. I wonder how’d the Dawgs would be doing if they played those cupcakes week in and week out. I guess we need to fire the entire Georgia staff, 9-2 doesn’t cut it in this day and age. Let’s remember Auburn was the preseason favorite to win the SEC West. They too have SEC caliber players at every position. Last I checked we WON the @#$%ing game. Last I checked we’re 9-2 despite losing key players throughout the year. People on this board need a reality check. Go back prior to the Richt era.
Beat Tech and we’re 10-2. Yet another 10 win season in the Richt era who is now 81-21? Yeah, coaching the problem. Most of the people on this board have no clue about football. Enjoy your miserable, unfulfilled lives.

Jeff, you ignorant slut! While you are complaining about UGA just barely winning, UT has fired its coach, and Auburn will probably fire TT after the season is over. Auburn was picked to win the west and a lot of people thought UT would at least be decent. And let’s not forget that last years national champs had to come back from a 28 point deficit to beat Troy. When you compare UGA’s season to those teams, it doesn’t seem so bad.

This tough schedule stuff is getting old. ASU is 3-6, Auburn is horrible, UT is atrocious, and UK is average at best. The only win you have against a current top 25 team is LSU, who was losing 31-3 to Troy last night . You squeaked by South Carolina, but they lost to LSU, and were absolutely killed by UF. You played 2 top 5 teams and were embarrassed by both. You might go 11-2, but your schedule is not nearly as tough as it looked in the preseason.

THERE ARE CONCERNS THAT NEED TO DE REVIEWED RELATED TO DEFENSE , SPECIAL TEAMS , PENALTIES AND RED ZONE OFFENSE . THE NOTION TO FIRE RICHT IS BEYOND BELIEF . Stafford will go pro because if he stays another year people will see that he will still throw interceptions all the time and show no heart. Moreno will go bc running backs dont have much tread and the team will be worse next year. Georgia will always be an average team good for 9-3 seasons give or take a loss. People badmouthing the ACC need to look at Florida and what they are doing to sec teams and then look how they did against Miami and Florida St will probably play them better than the sec teams.

Georgia needs a complete make over on special teams and Defense as well, Fire Fabris and Martinez. the amazing thing and its actually quite laughable is that Martinez coach the secondary and they are our worse performers. and Georgia’s pass defense is the worse in the nation. can anybody tell me why? If Mark Richt believes that Martinez is an excellent genus defensive coach, so why our defense is getting worse every year since 2005. why we cant adjust our coverage in the 2nd half as we used to do under BVG.why we don’t get turnovers?!!! why we miss so many tackles, is it really the players?? I’m 100% certain its NOT. believe me folks its Martinez.its coaching. I’m sure Martinez work very hard but I don’t think he has the knowledge or the capability to run division one defense.

You UGA fans amaze me!!! Do you not see how stupid your comments are?
Lets go back a year - your season was just just so - so going into Vandy - you pull out a game you should have lost - UGA teammates rally around each other - and the rest is history. UGA finishes on a great note in 2007.
This year you are undefeated going into the Alabama game - Alabama drives down early and UGA forces a turnover but a personal foul negates the turnover - who knows - without the PF maybe UA doesn’t score early and get you out of your game - maybe you win.
Suppose you do win and go into the UF game undefeated. Early in the game Tebow is driving and you guys intercept but a personal foul negates the interception. Suppose that call is not made and you guys capitalize on the turnover - build your confidence - and beat UF.
Now you’re undefeated and confidence is high - I’m sure you guys blow out UK and Auburn.
My point is that those TWO plays “could” have changed your season.
And all of this belly aching would not exist - and the coaching staff would be considered marvelous.
Stop whining - consider yourself lucky to have CMR and CWM and Bobo.
College football programs are closer than you think in ability - adversity sometimes affects the talent pool.
And I’m a GATOR.

Hey Munson, I’m sure that Stafford and Moreno will be heartened by that display of support on a message board. I doubt if its meaning will surpass that of GUARANTEED millions for a first round draft pick, BUT just maybe Richt can execute some of his Bible Hour semonettes and talk them into returning. Of course the ONLY reason to return would be to CONTEND for a National Championship—-and not to go 11-2 after a non-BCS Bowl win in some Florida city in December. Sadly the University of Florida will still be in the same division as Georgia next year so that appears to be something of a crap shoot. Of course Mark has utilized his Cotton Mather like skills in the past and just MAYBE Stafford and Moreno will see the NEED to return for Mother Georgia. In the meantime keep plugging that site.
By the way I know we are not very good either, BUT then again we weren’t Pre-Season #1, don’t possess a sure fire Top 5 pick at QB, don’t have arguably the greatest running back in the nation and are not comong off of more recruiting ranking Top 5’s as North Carolina has had in basketball. You basically played a 3 game schedule and you went 1-2. You will probably beat us, but you say we are no good, so besides Florida, Alabama and LSU you will have gone 9-0 against the gimmes and 1-2 against the REAL teams. Is that acceptable for a “Storied” football program?? Just asking.

For those who missed being at the game, every TV time out, most of UGA’s team looked like they were dancing in da club. I’ve never seen a more cocky bunch of football players.
Moreno takes the cake. During the timeout before UGA’s last 3rd down, he was doing the crank that dance in the huddle, then he proceeded to get tackled by Pat Dye Turf 3 yards shy of the first down.
If Richt’s teams played with class, that may equal less penalties which might equal NC’s. They look just like the FSU’s of old, amazing talent, Great Coach in Bowden, no discipline, lots of 10 win seasons.

The injuries….
The penalties…
The schedule…
9 and 2, is 9 and 2. Without the injuries the UF and UA games would have been at least closer. IF we don’t take care of business against Tech then there will really be some arm chair rednecks, I mean quarterbacks, calling for some coaches heads to roll. Gentlemen,
Thought I would never have to say this, but you sound like Clemson fans yearning for a return to the Danny Ford glory day.
Has his wife on the field, so he is a wimp and not tough enough. How ridiculous.
Poor coaching, by people who have no idea about coaching in college.
Poor play calling, by people who have never called a play.
This year we lost most of our already thin offensive line. Lost our best defensive lineman. And are still 10-2, having lost to the two best teams in the country. In the Richt years we have a better record than any except USC in the weak PAC 10.
We are all Dawg fans, but I hate to see us turn negative.

Derar KnowshonHauls(And he does!!!), We have to make up our minds. Now I’ve read and heard FREQUENTLY that ALL Tebow does is tuck it and run when inside the 5 and that is THE reason for all this production. Even that ASTUTE maven, Buck Belue(By the way has anyone else in history garnered so much notoriety from ANOTHER man’s brilliance on a scoring play??) has said Tebow is basically overrated and can’t compare to Stafford—I think Stafford is GREAT!!—if Bucky is right, then Tebow will be no big loss and Florida can just slot anyone in there. The alternative is that he is a brilliant college QB who has won a Heismann and MAYBE a National Championship. Which is it??
By the way, even though I think Meyer has a highly abrasive personality, runs up scores in an unsportsmanlike manner and probably won’t be doing any missionairy work on the CONTINENT of Africa——-I really believe it will take a longggggtime for that “what goes around to come around”.

Dear Voice Of Reason, One Question. I frequently read and hear it said “You can’t question the guy because you never coached”. If that is true does it necessarily follow that we can’t criticize Presidents, Senators, Representatives, Governors, Mayors,Fortune 500 Corporate CEO’s, Supreme Court Justices, a doctor who botches an operation, a dentist who messes up a root canal, a School Board Head, a lawyer who performs malpractice, a police chief————Now most of these people are criticized rather frequently and I’m going out on a limb and going to say many of those positions require more gray matter than coching football. Are only people who have held these positions or worked in these professions allowed to criticize said position??
i would even say that many athletes should not criticize newspaper columnists until they have read a newspaper.

Remember CMR grew up in the thug dominated Miami Hurricane organization, then moved on to the FSU Criminoles organization. Everyone, even CMR is molded by past associations. The off season arrests and the on field penalties/lack of discipline are here to stay. Bobo and Martinez do need to go,but CMR needs to let Dooley hire their successors. CMR needs to assume his role as goodwill ambassador, and leave coaching/parenting to his new 2009 assistants.
If we don’t get a handle on the character issue, our program will go the way of FSU,Miami,Tennessee, etc. Mama’s don’t want their kids associating with felons.

Bobo’s not qualified to coach at this level, and martinez doesn’t have a clue. Hopefully, their buyouts aren’t too high. Richt should look at some of the defensive coaches at florida.

About recruiting…someone above also made an excellent point, with all the arrest that have been ongoing 9 (at UGA), many parents would not want their football star in the making to go to a school with so many thugs. We must get a handle on this…all schools have these issues but we appear to be headed to the top of the polls on this one.

Thank you for HITTING THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. This is the article I’ve been waiting to see from an AJC sportswriter.
I’m so sick of Mark Richt bragging about how proud he is to beat the dirge of the SEC by 4 points each week. Meanwhile, Florida whips us by 39, Kentucky by 57, SC by 50, etc. We could easily be 6-5.
Mark Richt is a very nice guy. I like him a lot as a person. However, he turned the sporting world against us with that unclassy celebration in the end zone against Florida last year. When the talking heads want to see the usually hated Gators beat the Dawgs for revenge of the celebration, I’m embarrassed. I’m embarrassed that the formerly classy program is now seen moving in the direction, or having traded places with, unclassy programs like Florida’s.
I’m tired of second place. I want to win it all, and I want to destroy the opponents that we should destroy, not beat them 17-13. I hate to say this, but I admire what Florida does, which is just line up and beat the cra* out of people. We should give that a try.
There’s one answer, and it’s FIRE MARK RICHT. Make him the highest paid team chaplain in history since I’m sure we owe him $20mm plus for another 8+ seasons with our 10-year rolling contracts. Bring in someone like Meyer or Saban who demands excellence, instead of rejoicing in narrow, pitiful escapes.

This was a tough schedule. Everybody new that going in. When you lose your best offensive and defensive lineman going in it makes it even tougher. I think Georgia has acquitted itself well under the circumstances. Auburn is a rival game. It doesn’t matter how good or bad one team is these games are just about always close. A win is a good win. I remember the dry years when Georgia couldn’t come close to an SEC championship. CMR has done a great job and besides, really good coaches like CMR are hard to come by. Who is Clemson and Tennesee going to hire? I don,t see any quick fixes there. Be careful or you might get what you ask for!

Jeff has provided an excellent assessment of the Georgia football program. One of Richt’s recruiting tools is the fact that he has no team rules or standards of discipline. When Richt ordered the end-zone dance against Florida he advertised his Miami/FSU/UGA coaching philosophy on national TV. Georgia leads the country in penalties, player arrests, and has one of the lowest graduation rates in the conference. His players are entitled and self satisfied. They learned nothing from the humiliating whippings from Alabama and Florida. They just don’t get it. Undoubtedly their on field behavior will limit their bowl options, and they still have to contend with a good Georgia Tech team. I think that Richt’s moral melt down last year was a turning point when he revealed his true character. Fans can criticize assistant coaches, but the buck stops with Richt.

Jeff is absolutely right. I am not crying fire this guy or fire that guy but I would like a little honesty from CMR. Quit the spin…quit the “A WIN IS A WIN”…quit the “this is a team game” and all the other BS. The reality is this UGA team is poorly coached (see penalties/special teams/mental breakdowns) and lacks talent in key areas (worst safety play in years/DE’s are absent/no field goal kicker etc…) We don’t expect you call out a specific player in the media or hammer an assistant publically. We do expect you to be honest and say our defense got gashed at Kentucky, our special teams have been terrible, and our red zone offense this weekend was terrible…again. I am thankful Stafford chose UGA and he is a good QB but certainly not a great one by any measure. He throws the worst deep ball I have seen for someone who is suppose to be a top 5 pick in the NFL draft. His completetion percent is 15 points lower than the top QB’s and I’ll bet on balls thrown over 30 yards his completion % is 30 points or more lower. I hope is the best NFL QB ever but the HONEST assesment as a college QB is that he is good…not great!

I have never read an article about the Dawgs that is SO on the $. Mr. Schultz said it well. I am a teacher and compare this to having an A student make A’s on every test and then never do their homework…subsequently making C’s in the class. They do just what it takes to keep parents off their back. It’s so frustrating watching these young men act as underachievers and implode week after week. It is difficult to watch.
By Monk

I heard them talking about this column on the radio so I was prepared to crack on Schultz for doing one of his usual hatchet jobs on the Dogs. (See oft-used dorky phrase: “Trembling Chihuahuas.”) However, there isn’t too much to disagree with in the above. Sure, there are points you could take the other side on, but not all that vigorously. You could read most of Schultz’s points on the Dawgvent everyday.
What it comes down to is that the season - albeit a 9-2 one - has been filled with two beat-downs and so many close escapes that none of the fans are feeling very good about it. You can blame coaching, or injuries, or the letdowns from the high expectations, or all of these. The bottom line is that this has to be the most unsatisfying 9-2 record ever. To make matters worse, now we all have to sit around for two weeks fretting and worrying about Tech’s option attack against the fragile confidence of our defense. At this point, unlike any other year in the last 15, how well UGA folks are able to deal with this season comes down to whether or not we beat Tech.
Can we ask not to be included in any pre-season rankings next year? Seriously, can’t we claim they have to have our permission to rank us??

You got to agree with Jeff on this one. I watched the replay the other day of the UGA/Auburn game in ‘86. No stupid penalties, just hard nosed, fundamental football. Coach Richt needs to quit stop being a buddy and friend to the players and instantly have respect as soon as he walks into a room. No more swimming/diving/dancing on the sidelines crap. I played briefly for Erk at GSU and I assure you when he walked into a room all eyes were on him or you paid the price.

I would have to agree unfortunately with you this time Jeff, but with some clarification:
1 I think the offense is working strictly off the athleticism of its QB, RB’s, and receivers due to the banged up offensive line. We score a lot more points with a healthy offensive line. The hands to the facemask by offensive linemen are due to inexperience and will be corrected as they mature.
2 The defense has been placed in bad positions by the special teams the last 2 games. They have made some stupid personal files and that needs to be coached out of them, and it will be.
3 Special teams have almost cost us the last 2 games. I don’t know who our special teams coach is or our kicking coach, but they need to get the lead out and teach their special teams players how to play special teams. That kid fumbling the punt into the end zone against KY and thinking he had to run it out and getting tackled at the 2 yard line is poor coaching.
Finally we got blown out against UF and UA. I don’t mind that. One is number 1 and one is number 5. It happens. But we should look better prepared against the rest. I am thankful and grateful we won them, but we would have not had to struggle with strong special teams play.

My seven year old son sat with me glued to the tv watching our beloved Dawgs play Saturday against an old rival, Auburn. The miscues, the penalties, the touch downs, the missed tackles, the great runs, the great catches, the missed opportunities, all of this we watched and got mad, and got happy and my son shouted for joy when the last second Auburn pass fell incomplete, saying “We won Daddy, We Won! We won, that had a great sound and feel to it. Then we went outside and played football, he pretended to be Knowshon and Stafford and We won again. I’m glad he doesn’t understand any of the crying, lamenting, and anger that a lot of you have for Georgia and its coaches and players. He and I are excited that We Won. I know most of you could care less but watching football with you kids and playing outside afterwards is a lot more important than calling for peoples jobs and complaining that 18-22 year old kids are useless because you choose to gamble on college sports. Is anyone forgetting the fact that UGA has played four straight games away from home. At LSU, in Jacksonville for Georgia - Florida, at Kentucky, and at Auburn. Georgia’s offense has been fine. They averaged 428 yards during that 4 game away streak. Their problems stem from their bonehead penalties play after play and the fact that their defense is averaging giving up 376 yards a game during this 4-game stretch. The best teams in the nation don’t give away yards like that. Bobo is fine, the D needs recharging.

How much running are our defensive guys doing after committing these personal fouls? Boy that has sure solved that issue. At least 4 defensive personal fouls in the first half. That’s coaching my friend. Martinez has to be held accountable for that. You can still be agressive defensively and not hit late out of bounds and grab facemasks, etc. I am no means complaining about being 9-2 but at least stop giving it away to the other team.

uh….Coach Richt is the best coach in the country…hands down! Football is not exactly the type of endeavor that a coach can control every aspect of…I mean these guys are not simply putting words together on a screen to form an article. This is a fluid, dynamic game that has countless variables that can influence the outcome and performance of a team.
Credit the coaches for recruiting superior talent that can step up when a unprecedented rash of offensive and defensive injuries occur. These are 18-21 year old kids (they are going to play aggressive and make some mistakes in the process - that is out of the hands of the coaches). If Stafford and Moreno are back next year…watch out (nobody’s going to be crying about their expectations not being met - get a life people!!)

Mark Richt is one of the finest men coaching football today, if not the finest. Having said that, he needs to fire Willie Martinez (defense) and John Fabris (special teams)! It is his duty at head coach. If he does not, then Mark Richt, as good a man as ever walked a sideline, should be let go.

A W IS A W! We are 9-2 people. It’s not how you win but if you win. Everybody wants to be 11-0 right now but that is not where we are. IN THE 90’S WE WOULD BE DANCING IN THE STREETS RIGHT NOW! Yeah we were preseason #1 oh well. Auburn and Tennessee were both preseason top 25 and now they aren’t even going bowling. We are in a good place right now minus some stupid penalties and a couple of bad halves. IT’S GREAT TO BE A GEORGIA BULLDOG! I agree with EDDCUNNINGHAM, let’s be thankful for or families and our health. If you aren’t a true fan go home and anyone who wants to fire Coach Richt needs to take a look at themselves. We are lucky to have the leader we have. GO DAWGS!!

**Clearly all you DAWG fans bought into the post season and preseason HYPE about your DAWGS. Granted, they are a pretty good team. CMR is a pretty good coach. But y’all ain’t a number one team, shouldn’t have been ranked that going into this season. I follow Georgia closely and I don’t see any difference in coaching this year compared with the last 5. CMR has always had huge talent base and Georgia has done well with it. Fact is, Georgia will not be a number one team until they do like Florida, Alabama, Southern Cal, Penn State, et. al. You have to create a national “footprint in Recruiting”. Tech does a better job than y’all do in recruiting nationwide.
I dare say that if CPJ were coaching at Georgia, y’all would be number one right now. Rumor has it that the ONLY reason he took the Tech job was to get the Georgia job. Hey, stranger things have happened! Tommy Tuberville jumpedship at Ole Miss after what 2 years going to Auburn?
Anyway Dawg Fans, Remember the old saying “I used to complain about not having any shoes, until I saw a man with no feet”.
9 - 2 ain’t bad, You’ll still get a great bowl at 9 - 3 after WE KICK Y’ALLS A$$!

Seriously? Out of those teams, only 2 have won a BCS championship since CMR has been at UGA (UF & USC). K. Moreno, K. Weston, M. Stafford, L. Gray, A. White….all kids from outside the SE. Georgia does a great job recruiting from the SE, which is where the majority of schools across the nation come to find players. Bottom line, it’s not the recruiting.

WTF is wrong with you GEorgia fans? Reading your blog is like listening to the “poor little RICH kid”.Look what we at Tech went through before CPJ, Look what bama went through before Saban, Florida before Meyers (but Florida was still beating the Dawgs even with Zook). I’m still in disbelief that y’all fired Jim Donan! CMR has ONE more victory than Donnan did at this same point.
I can tell you this, If Vince Dooley were Coach for this year and last, you would be staring at the possibility of back to back NC.
In the meantime, all you haters wanting to get rid of Richt and company, who you going to get? The season is almost over, national signing day is the first week of Feb. If Richt is fired you will lose about 50% of the recruits who have committed. Y’all are just stupid!

9-2 aint bad boys. You all must have short memories. In 1980 and 1982 we won 10 games by 7 or less points. In 1983, 3 by seven or less ( two by one point) and we had a tie. Bottom line when you have a young offensive line ( and an average tight end) you cannot dictate much in the red zone. Nonetheless, there is no excuse for the dumb a* penalties. Go Dogs.

I agree with you Jeff, the Dawgs are skating by and there is no discipline at all on that team. Bobo is terrible at calling plays. I thought when Richt was hired, the Dawgs’ offense will open up like Richt had his offense while at Florida State. Richt has become very conservative since he has been in Athens. The defense can’t stop anyone. Tech will have a field day running the ball against UGA. It takes discipline to stop the flexbone, and the Dawgs don’t have any discipline.

Have you seen CMR in his post game interviews and shows in recent weeks? He looks very tired and almost withdrawn.
I think something is going on.
I am pleased with the 9 wins as long as we can beat Tech and go on to win a major bowl.
I have not been pleased with how the offense continually breaks down in the red zone and the totally inept defense.

Richt better get it together next year, and start winning some big games. Blowout losses to the only 2 good teams on the schedule will not cut it at UGA. The dawgs had more talent than bama or florida this year, and choked big in both games. I’m tired of losing to florida every year—-those fans really get on my nerves!

coach richt; don’t listen to these sore winners, just keep winning anyway you can. its your own fault you know, you ignited this passionate base from middle of the pack to reload every year, and created the highest of expectations where we think we should be playing for titles every year, and thats a good thing because i know that is why you came here. coach em up and get them ready for tech, thats all that matters now.

Yes, Ive noticed how terrible Richt looks. He’s losing his hair also. Who wouldn’t with this team. Obviously he can’t control these misfits. Perhaps more emphasis on character when recruiting would help. Let’s face it, we’re a second level program right now. We’ll never win a NC with Richt. UF will soon have 2 under Myer. Beating UF once every 5 yrs. will be cause for celebration at UG.

I love it. Enjoy your misery rednecks. You are the laughing stock of football and the biggest bedwetters in the last 10 years in CFB. Maybe you will dominate hawaii in a bowl again and start up the hype machine again. What a sad state of affairs.

They both beat you handily. And, they blew out teams that UGA struggled with.
It’s obvious they have more talent and better coaching than we do.

And by character, do you mean guys that like to smother their girlfriends with pillows or those who like to fire AK’s into the air? B/C if that’s what it takes to win the NC (see Florida Gators) I’m content with beating the hoodrats once every 5 years.

“Laughing stock of all of college football…” Biggest bedwetters in the last 10 years?” Actually do a little more research on that last 10 years…
Then again, why bother talking to a typical hater. No “misery” here bub: 9-2 is nothing to sneeze at. This Dawg didn’t expect an undefeated season with the schedule the Dawgs had. Hey they lost to 1st and 3rd teams in the land. Not too shabby!
Bottom line: the Dawgs WILL beat ‘Tech and most likely win their bowl. Yep, we’ll cry and commiserate all winter; gimme a break.
I’m with “Claxton” up above: you’d think some would like to go back to the Donnan years. Donnan and/or Goff would most likely have LOST to UK and AU. Instead they pulled out wins (no, not pretty wins but better to win ugly than “lose pretty”!) against those two.
I’d like to see the D go back to their dominate ways, but apparently they just don’t have the horses we thought. There’s not a beast up front and the secondary has only one guy in the mold of a Blue or Davis back there. And yes, they’re all pretty young. Hey, it’s college football. Georgia’s gonna be fine.

Why is everyone so surprised? Georgia wins the Fulmer Cup this offseason (awarded to the team with the most off the field incidents) with something like 9-10 players in trouble and then the same lack of discipline flows over to the field and everyone seems stunned.
Richt is the proverbial “players coach” which translated to english means lax on discipline. He learned it from his mentor Bobby Bowden so he knows no other way. You can blame the coordinators all you want but the problem is at the top.
Some others have mentioned Saban and Meyer as coaches who demand discipline which is true however, both Alabama and Florida got a taste for “players coaches” with Shula and Zook with the same exact results underachievement.
It’s pretty simple when you think about it.

Comment on Dooley vs. Richt. If Richt had Erk on the sideline calling defense, and Cavan on the sideline motivating the offense, with GA’s talent, Richt would probably have won at least one of the games GA. lost this year, and probably would have at least one NC under his belt since arriving at GA. We need an ERK and a CAVAN on the sidelines. CAVAN was the most competitive coach ever at GA.

KJ- As bad as you want to be a top tier program and as much as you feel entitled to it, you are not and cannot be with CMR at the helm. He is clearly a successful coach which is obvious from the amount of bulldog ire he draws from sitting at 9-2 and in the top 15 all year. some programs would kill for that, hoooooweva, with the SI cover and the clear evidence in your two big losses this year that he cannot match wits with nations elite coachs it has become kind of a tragic story in athens and unfortunately he is good enough, in fact better than good, to keep his job and keep you in a new years day bowl hunt most years. you will never win it all though and will always be florida’s whipping boy. i also look for tech, although i think the optimism they show is a bit premature, to start to even the series up because of superiority in the coaching spots. Mark Richt = Jim Mora Jr.

Jeff have you even watched any of these games because if you had you would have seen that about half those penalties were bogus. Every since the so called celebration in the Florida game last year all close calls have been going against the dogs. For instance the Florida game everybody keeps talking about, 35 0f Florida’s points were a direct result of phantom calls on the Dawgs and/or no calls on Florida, even the CBS announcers were talking about the obvious bad calls. The only games where we didn’t dominate on the O and D lines were the Alabama and South Carolina games and we won the South Carolina game and if we hadn’t beaten ourselves in the first half of the Bama game that one would have been a lot closer.
Anyway this team has proven that they have true grit because a lesser team would have folded with all of the injuries, suspensions and having to play the refs and the other teams as well.
Go Dawgs
