T.O., Amanpour, Obama and guaranteed locks
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Before unveiling this week’s absolute financial locks, 100 percent satisfaction guaranteed, if my name isn’t DeAngelo Hall, wait, what happened to my other $62 million, hello, Canton, are you on the line, hello … ?
Where was I? Oh yes. Before this week’s forecast, Weekend Predictions Significantly Below $250,000 Annum, Inc., wishes to congratulate Barack Obama on being elected President of at least 49 of the 50 United States. We can’t be certain about Georgia. The vote-counters in Fulton County keep running out of fingers and toes and like, there was a Kohl’s one-day sale Tuesday and, you know, there’s lunch breaks and stuff, and, really, since the Florida game, I mean, is it going to make a difference in the BCS? Stop rushing us!
About the election: Nobody summed things up better than CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, who said Obama, “has inherited the inbox from Hell.” This should not be confused with the box-head analysis of Terrell Owens, who actually said: “There was a change, and hopefully that can trickle on down to our season.”
Because, really, when the NFL makes the turn for the back eight, isn’t that more important than collapsing banks, government bailouts and the future of the free world?
The Falcons are 5-3. One more win, and I swear I stop drinking.
They play New Orleans, which has won all four meetings since Sean Payton took over. The Saints have one of the league’s best offenses with QB Drew Brees, but they’re actually kind of a mess. Reggie Bush is out. Deuce McAllister is a walking HMO disaster. Four players reportedly have failed drug tests and may be suspended. They’re on their third kicker and third punter. The defense? Feh.
The line says Falcons by 1.
By the time all the precincts are in, it’ll be more than that. Falcons cover.
B(ulldog-free).C.S.
• Trembling Chihuahuas at Kentucky: You can sum up this stage of Georgia’s season in one word: Raycom. With those pesky prime-time and national TV games out of the way, the Doggies will schlep to Lexington, toting what’s left of their self-esteem and a bag of Tony Robbins tapes. The Cats are not very good. But 10 1/2? Too rich. Dogs win but don’t cover.
• Tech at North Carolina: It turns out that the Jackets are still a roller coaster — just a far more interesting one. They held on to beat Florida State a week after bobbling a home game to Virginia. That kept Orange Bowl hopes alive, which basically means they’re closer to a BCS bowl than Georgia. That should go over well in Athens. Tech’s beat up, but — why not? Take the 4 and Jackets in a straight upset.
• Saban at LSU: They’re still upset that Nick Saban could leave such a garden spot as Baton Rouge for the NFL. So I guess this shouldn’t come as a surprise: Alabama’s Luther Davis claims Les Miles called Saban “the devil” while he was being recruited. A Bama spokesman said Saban was busy filing souls and could not be reached for comment. Tide wins, but take LSU and 3.
• Wyoming at Tennessee: What’s worse than being 1-4 in the SEC? The Volunteers just got turned down by the Duke coach. Gladys: Are we out of arsenic? Vols cover 26 1/2.
• Clemson at FSU: The Seminoles are coming off a last-second loss to Tech, and Bobby Bowden is playing the school that fired his son. You don’t suppose Tommy is helping break down film in Tallahassee this week, do you? Noles cover 5 1/2.
NFL Snack Pack
• Giants at Eagles: New York is better on offense, better on defense and 10-1 against the spread in its past 11 road games. Facts cloud the decision-making process, don’t you think? Eagles cover the 3.
• Titans at Bears: I’ll see your bet against Tennessee moving to 9-0 and raise you a Rex Grossman. Titans cover 3.
• Niners at Cardinals: If Mike Singletary is going to get caught with his pants down, shouldn’t he be playing in the 49ers’ secondary? Arizona wins but take SanFran and 9 1/2.
• Panthers at Raiders: In hopes of improving ticket sales, the halftime show will feature Al Davis doubling his dose of Thorazine and analyzing a list of free agents. Carolina covers 9 on the road.
Accounts payable • Last week: (Despite slight miscalculation in Jax.) 5-4 straight up, 4-5 against the line.
• Totals: 64-34 straight up, 46-50-2 against the line.

Keep drinking, Jeff, but stay off the Thorazine. If you don’t, we’ll be reading in a couple of weeks that you are picking Ga. Tech over Georgia. Only a drug-infused brain could even consider such a thing before the season began.

UK’s defense has held all opponents but one to 20 points or less. The pups got spanked at Jax, and are homesick. That would point to taking the Cats and the points. I don’t buy it. Dawgs rebound and hang about 40 on them. Take the pups and lay the points.
Tech is due to put together a complete game. Nesbitt had the offense hitting on all cylinders before leaving with a bad ankle last week. Not happening. Bad karma in Chapel Hill. Take the Heels and lay the points.
LSU has been underachieving, Alabama has shown a propensity for second half collapses. Not to worry. Saturday night in Baton Rouge against the hated Lou Saban. LSU wins big.
FSU is smarting after a near loss in Atlanta. FSU covers.

Bama’s second half snoozes, playing only one good team, dancing to a 9-0 record, will it’s time for Southern Justice——LSU with 93,000 wanting Nick’s scalp, gets the win with the gremlins coming out of the Tiger Stadium lower level seats. Now that’s what SEC football is all about. Maybe if Bama wore houndstooth helmets————nah, not on 11-08-08—-this is the bayou’s time to shine——Geaux you football Tigers

Bama is #1, correct? LSU wins.
Georgia will probably lose to Auburn or Ga Tech…then again, I thought htat last year and the year before! We’ll see how UGA bounces back, but Tech just isn’t that great (and neither is the ACC). UNC wins by double digits with better talent and a better coach. A sure sign of things to come for the ACC as UNC will be a powerhouse.

The Pups better go to Kentucky with an attitude, or they will come back to Athens with their tails tucked up their exhuast pipe. Close game, Pups by 7.
Tech needs to play the whole game in Chapel Hill like they did for three quarters against the ‘Noles. No more injuries, no turnovers, and strong defense will put them up by 10.
Bama vs LSU…I smell an upset, but will pick the Tide by 3.
Falcons will roll on Sunday. They have chemistry, momentum, and are hungry. Birds by 14.

Jeff, surely you can’t be this much of an idiot. Cutcliffe was asked about the UT job by a sportswriter and said he wasn’t interested. Surely you know sportswriters don’t do the hiring. It is easy to say no to a job that hasn’t been offered. He is not on the UT radar at all. It makes about as much sense as you saying you don’t want the job. You haven’t and won’t be asked either. And while you are at it, go ahead and turn down the job of Secretary of State in the Obama administration.

Hey chuck. Yeah the ACC isn’t that good yet there are 11 teams in the acc that are over 500. more than any other conference. No that isn’t very good. If nesbitt is 100 % I think we will win. The heels get a lot of points off of turnovers which is almost all interceptions. They lead the nation in those but I don’t think we will give them much of a chance to pick it off.

You wanna know why the Vols got turned down by the Duke coach? Because the Vols turned their back on their coach. Cutcliffe and Fulmer are tight. There are still some true Southern gentlemen left in the South and Cutcliffe is one of them. He will not turn his back on his friend.
Dogs win BIG.

I have been a dog fan since I seen my first game in 1966. Every season we are asking ourselves What Happened??? It is very simple. You have a great head coach in place but he is afraid to treat the football players like they need to be coached and disciplined. CMR should have the guys running laps and the stadium steps everyday. An attitude of winning should be instilled in each of these young men. Never should they accept defeat the way that they do. By that I mean telling them that he feels sorry for them and that they played a good game. From where I was seating at the Alabama and Florida games it looked like they had no idea of what was going on. I have never thought and never will that Mat Stafford is a quality QB. I hope he leaves so we can see Logan Gray. What is the deal with NM? He must have a medical condition and hopes no one will find out before he gets the big pay day. Don’t pat yourself on the back to much BOBO THE BOZO and SLICK WILLIE because you need to be hunting another job. The truth is that if we played South Carolina again they would also put up about 40 since they have a QB. We are always recruiting well but these players never pan out. Look at the way Saben turned Ala. Around in just 2 years. IT IS THE COACHING.

Fact Check, Hollywood. Richt went 13-1 in his SECOND season and would have played for the title that year had Ohio State not kicked about 8 last-second field goals. That’s just bad luck.
We’ve looked terrible in big games this year, and I’m as disappointed as anyone, but CMR passed the “2nd year” test with flying colors.

UGA fans should and I say SHOULD be Tech’s #1 fan… The better they are the better the CPU ratings are when they meet. ANd if UGA wins, that means a better bowl and if they lose it doesn’t hurt as much. This is why USC is not high on anyones bowl list (other than the Rose).. The rest of the Pac-10 sucks… It does no good to beat teams 56-0 when they are ranked in the bottom cellar of the NCAA.
I wish both teams the best of luck. True it seems that Tech has more to play for than UGA. However; UGA is still playing for the right to play on Jan 1st.

Georgia will win but it will be as usual an ugly game. Look for Stafford to pad his stats to make the end of the season look a little more presentable. He seems to be in pick mode right now so anything is possible. They come in bunches for the golden boy from Texas. Tell me again how strong his arm is? I keep forgetting.

An under achieving and undisciplined team is indicative of players with poor leadership on the field and (or)on the sideline. Where there’s no focus or resolve to achieve there will be no outstanding achievement. It’s just that simple.

When are people going to start admitting that as entertaining and topsy turvy as the ACC has been this year, the fact is that it’s just not a very good conference this year? There is a legit scenario where the ACC Champ could play in a BCS bowl with 4 losses. Blow up the BCMEss.

Dawgs can still, rather easily have a ten-win season, possibly an at-large bid to a BCS bowl, or high second-tier bowl. Win this and they have an 11-win season and a top-ten finish. That is a good year in everyone’s book - except Schultz, and the rest of his media cronies that built up the hype on a Georgia team that was not quite there, given the young line, and where injuries did the rest. First, you media guys build them up beyond expectations (which shows your ignorance) and then blame the Dawgs becaused you called it wrong. Oh, to be so perfect …
UGA crushes Kentucky, Auburn couldn’t find it’s butt with both hands and Tech will be tough - as usual. Dawgs win out.
Pick a p** LSU team in a straight upset at home - Bama is prime for a let-down. Tech wins. Tennessee loses - again. National Champ? It strains every muscle in my body to admit it - Florida. This team is better than their previous National Champ. Look out Big Ten - its crush time again by the SEC ….

I, too, hope we see more of Cox or Gray at QB this week. If Stafford and Moreno ARE going to turn pro, then we need to let Cox, Gray, King, and Samuel get as much experience as they can for the rest of this season. Even if Stafford returns next season, he’s just not getting the points on the board that we need. If I were Richt, I would start either Cox or Gray and sit Stafford on the bench and see what develops.

Look UGA got beat by probably the two top teams in the country…we will finish 10-2 and go to the Cotton Bowl…not bad!! Haha, nice jab at us dawgs there. Oh well, we had our shot and couldn’t beat 2 of the teams on our schedule. Nevertheless, if we can finish out and the win the rest of our games with a 11-2 season and a good top 10 finish, I guess you can’t get too mad about that. Go dawgs.

Snoop Dawg, the country has taken notice already. Biggest 2 games of the year and you lose by a total of 50, and it coulda been much worse had Bama not taken the air out of the ball at halftime. UGA is “not ready for prime time”. Very talented team that has not been coached up.

NC is unfortunate that they did not play GT earlier in the season, likte VT, before the QBs and the blocking got up to speed. I like Tech to win in Chapel Hill, but it’s a dogfight all the way. Tech throws a few passes early to loosen things up, then concentrates on run game ball security, and possession. The defense keeps NC off balance enough to get a few 3-and-outs, and that’s all it takes.
Falcons win on a long FG from Elam with less than 1 minute remaining. Ryan due for a rough game.
This year, UT should never lay more than 20 pts against anyone. Take WY and the points.

What I find interesting is that everyone…including people on Fox, CBS, and ESPN say that LSU will win b/c the LSU fans are mad with Saban. Last time I check, its the football team that actually plays the game…not the fans. So unless “The Hat” is planning on suiting up a bunch of LSU fans, the fact that they are mad won’t matter. Either way, I think we are in for a great game Saturday night in Baton Rouge!

Jeff, No way dogs do not cover after being embarrassed last week. I think they win big to take out their frustration. Other point, I read an interview in the Tallahassee paper where Bobby Bowden was pretty emphatic that he would not ask his son Tommy nor would Tommy volunteer to help his dad prepare for Clemson. Despite what happened, Tommy has too much class and respect for the players he recruited to help his dad. I don’t think Bobby will need it. FSU is a much better team. Tech was lucky to escape with a win at home. Had this game been in Tallahassee, it would not have been close. Go Dawgs, Go Noles.

No Dawgs Here,
Unfortunately you represent the fans who know absolutely nothing about how the Bowl System works. Otherwise you’d realize that the only way the Georgia/Georgia Tech game will ever matter in bowl selection is if either UGA joins the ACC, Georgia Tech joins the SEC, or if one of the two teams is ranked in the top 2 of the BCS going into the game. Bowls select teams based on conference rank and expected ticket sales. Not BCS rankings.
As far as I’m concerned, if you are a Georgia Tech fan you should be rooting for UGA only in the unlikely senario that Tech is ranked #3 and UGA is playing against #1 or #2 in the SEC title game(same works the other way around).
Real GT fans do not root for Georgia and real UGA fans do not root for Tech.

Your idea of silly, Jerk is a lot different than mine. I live here in Tallahassee and know what kind of team they have. Fumbling the winning score in the end zone with time running out was a gift for Tech. There is no doubt the home crowd kept Tech in the game. Believe what you want but I stand by what I wrote. Your comments to my and Snoop Dog’s posts however go beyond silly. They presume facts that don’t exist. You’re entitled to your opinion, just keep in mind your opinion is no better than anyone else’s, is it?

The home crowd had nothing to do with your safeties continuously over-pursuing. In Tally, Cooper’s helmet would have never knocked that ball loose, would it?
