Ryan calmly leading the charge
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Green Bay, Wis. — During warm-ups before his first game in the most storied stadium in NFL history, Matt Ryan reacted with something less than a meltdown.
“This is pretty cool,” he said to his coach.
Now, most of us can’t relate to what a young starting quarterback must be thinking the first time he walks into Lambeau Field. But if it’s similar to a young starting pitcher walking to the mound at Yankee Stadium or a young starting soprano walking to center stage at The Met, then most would not expect what happened Sunday.
Calm. Followed by a 37-yard pass to Roddy White on the first play of the game.
Calm. Followed by the Falcons’ first touchdown in a road game this season.
Calm. Followed by three scores in the team’s first four possessions.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Todd McClure, the veteran center. “His composure in the huddle is amazing.
“There are some times like today when I tried to ask him during a TV timeout, ‘What’s the next play?’ and he just snapped, ‘Just wait! Hold on a second!’ So we had to rag him about that a little bit. But he takes charge. That’s how you have to be as a quarterback.”
Five games into the season, the Falcons are in a place few expected them to be: not last. They are 3-2 and getting better.
We have learned it’s dangerous to assume too much about the future with this franchise. Particularly at quarterback. But the manner in which Ryan jump-started the Falcons to a 27-24 upset over Green Bay in his fifth NFL game certainly would lead most to view the future with, well, calm.
In the first half, when the Falcons took a 17-7 lead, Ryan completed 13-of-18 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Here is a breakdown of the five incompletions: two drops; one spike to stop the clock; one wise flip out of bounds as he scrambled to avoid a certain sack and lost yardage; one short toss to Roddy White that was broken up by a Packers’ defender.
No misfires.
He wasn’t perfect Sunday. Early in the fourth quarter, after his 17-yard run and later a personal foul on the Packers helped set up the Falcons at the Green Bay 12, Ryan had tight end Ben Hartstock ridiculously open in the end zone, only to underthrow him and have the pass intercepted. (Green Bay then drove to a tying score.)
But the way he reacted was rare for a rookie quarterback.
“Nothing,” McClure said. “I didn’t hear him say anything.”
“He just came over to the sideline and looked at me,” coach Mike Smith said. “I said, ‘Hey, we’re going to get an opportunity to get another one.’ And we did that.”
The Falcons drove to a field goal and a touchdown on their next two possessions. Ryan didn’t have to do a lot: the field goal was mostly set up by a long kickoff return by Jerious Norwood; the touchdown that made it 27-17 followed an interception at the Packers’ 19.
But he functioned. He ran the team. Players react to their quarterback.
“Obviously I was a little frustrated [after the interception],” Ryan said. “I guess that’s part of the learning curve.”
Small curve.
He completed his first six passes of the game. He ran a perfect bootleg pass on fourth-and-goal from the one on the opening possession, hitting tight end Justin Peelle in the end zone. He perfectly ran a no-huddle offense for four plays in the second quarter against the befuddled Packers’ defense, finishing with a 22-yard touchdown to Roddy White.
There was significant debate following the draft about whether the Falcons made the right decision to select Ryan over LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey. Time ultimately will provide the answer. But Ryan showed something special in a stadium that has seen its share of greatness.
Asked later about Lambeau, he said, “It has an aura about it. The coolest thing for me was when you’re able to walk down that tunnel, and all of a sudden you’re out there. It’s Lambeau Field.”
The awe ended shortly thereafter.

Great Win! It’s very clear that the coaching staff has a lot of confidence in Matt Ryan. They continue to allow him as a rookie quarterback to run a no huddle offense from time to time each week. I think we are all seeing the making of something very special here in Matt Ryan. Mr. Blank I give you a lot of credit for bringing this team back to respectability after being about as low as the franchise has ever seen. I along with many Falcon fans have something to look forward to once again. The Falcons on Sunday afternoons.

Great article. Unbelievable win for these young Falcons! This is the most optimistic I’ve been in four years, and will be loudly rooting for them when they head my way in Oakland on Nov. 2nd!
Abraham is playing probably the best football of his life, but it is starting to look like jamal anderson could rank as one of the biggest busts in franchise history (you guys need to turn up the heat on him). Ryan, White, Norwood and Turner form what will be a powerhouse unit for a long time coming. GO FALCONS!

I have said all along to all my friends that the falcons needed a face for the franchise…a new idenitity to carry the falcons to the future. Matt Ryan was and is the right choice for the Atlanta Falcons (not a defensive tackle). For the first time, the future looks bright for the falcons. FEAR THE FALCONS!!!!!

For those that wanted Brian Brohm instead of Matt Ryan, I would love to hear your comments now that he is a 3rd string QB (behind 7th rounder Matt Flynn).
Matt Ryan is the real deal.

This has to be the Most improved Football team I have ever seen from one season to the next. Thanks to Blank, Dimitroff, Coach Smith and a very fine coaching staff.
After the April draft we will be seriouis contenders for the NFC South and beyond. We do have a few positions that need tuning up but the progress in this young season is amazing.
Matt Ryan is the perfect QB, each week it seems that the Coaches are letting Matt do more and more.
Very, very cool progress with a great group of young players!

I’m very proud to be Falcons fan today. Matt Ryan is proving that he was well worth Atlanta’s first pick. Atlanta was not supposed to win today, but they found a way. Good teams find ways to win some of the tough road games on their schedule. Looking forward to Chicago next Week. GO BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt Ryan looks to be the next coming of Peyton Manning. He is a student of the game and learns from his mistakes. For a rookie to win on the road in the NFL is no small feat. He is a leader and has made watching the Falcons fun again. They have a chance to win every week with this young gun under center! Go Falcons!

WHERE’S ORLANDO BEDWETTER NOW? So much for those lame articles- “The Curse of Samko Gado” and the other one where he predicted the Falcons would lose because they wouldn’t be able to overcome the “Ghosts of Lambeau”. What was that about? That’s two wins in a row up there now, so can you put that mystiq crap to rest finally?
Anyway, even though the Falcons made my head hurt that 2nd half- good win. And I have to give it up to Aaron Rodgers for playing like a real warrior today. Even with a bum shoulder he gave us all we could handle and then some. Just wish those announcers would stop bringing up comparisons to Favre every other freaking second. That got annoying. Give Rodgers his due for being him. No knock on Favre, but man would they get off his jock, he’s not dead- he’s in New York- which may be the same thing but that’s another story. We still have a ways to go, but this is a nice beginning to a new era for this “team” and I like what I’m seeing. We still have holes to fill like getting Big Abe some help with that rush, solidifying the secondary, and some part-time shoddy punt return reception, but we’ll get there I believe with Dimitroff making the personnel decisions. That was a gut check there at the end, but having a “real” threat at rb saw us through- way to go Burner Turner, Matty “Ice”, Roddy, and that o-line too. When we get this thing all the way fixed, the future will be awesome…
GO FALCONS!!!

The future is looking very bright for the Falcons. We should end up with at least 6-7 wins (barring injuries), maybe more. Realistically we are about 1 good draft away from the playoffs but you never know. What a difference a year makes. GO FALCONS!

I will admit I have a bias towards Ryan being a Boston College guy BUT if anyone saw him singlehandedly beat VT in Blacksburg last year then you would have seen the makings of someone special. Matt Ryan was THE reason why Boston College was #2 at one point and finished in the Top 10 to end the season. Where is BC now?
His composure is amazing and so is his attitude. You can see how his teammates like him. Ryan WILL have some bumps in the road as this Falcons team is in the infancy of getting to contention but rest assured the Falcons are heading in the right direction with Ryan, Turner, Mike Smith and Dimitroff.
Go Falcons!

Great win today. These young Falcons are exceeding all my expectations. Yes, they beat a couple of sorry teams in the Lions and Chiefs, but todays road win at Lambeau was big against a better than average Packers team. The team goes as Turner goes. When we’re able to run Turner and Norwood, we win. When we don’t we lose. White, Abraham big games today and Lofton is shaping up to be a stud at MLB. Hate to admit it, but for all his greatness I think Brooking might be reaching his age limit. Secondary playing better than expected, but where’s Foxworth since we traded for him? Jamaal Anderson should be moved inside to DT and draft another stud DE in next year’s draft because he’s turning out to be a bust. Is Laurent Robinson hurt? Great win with some good momentum, and if we can beat the improved bears @ home next sunday, this year’s goals may have to be re-examined. Rock the Dome out next sunday!

Five wins is now almost a lock. Maybe as many as seven possible, which is looking good. Still, never forget how the Falcons have gotten off to 6-2 and 5-3 starts before, only to finish with disappointing records. Ryan is a rookie and healthy clubs will try and eat him alive. The Packers were not so healthy, but all the gmaes count. Ryan is still a rookie and rookies need to learn things like throwing interceptions in the endzone. He’s still got some mistakes to make. Aim low and anything higher is a plus. Aim high and anything less is heartbreak.

Good Win for the Dirty Birds…FEAR THE FALCONS!!! We need to give much love to Thomas for drafting Matt Ryan…but even more love for drafting Sam Baker. Not much has been said about him but he makes a huge differnce when he is in the game. The team just looks much better running the ball and the offense flows better. Get your tickets now the the Bears game and lets make the big Dome an actual home field advantage for our dirty birds!!!! Be loud and proud GO FALCONS!!!!

The Falcons are way ahead of schedule. I’ve been praising the offensive line this year, I think they can be very special. Ryan is playing as good as a vet. The defense has some holes in it, but the staff is doing a good job of covering some of the holes up. I just wish the schedule wasn’t so brutal for the Falcons. Big ups to Thomas Dimitroff he is the real deal.

I’ve seen a lot of quarterbacks in my time watching football. Ryan has something, that great quarterbacks all have - a firm grasp of reality. His rookie mistake did not phase him, even though it led to a 14 point swing. He’d made a great touch pass earlier for a score, and he seemed to be frozen in the moment - “do it fire it, is it a touch pass?” and he waited a split second too long - well, out he came and got back on it, it’s my job you see, we’re gonna win football games.
What we have here is a Pennsylvania QB - Namath, Marino, Unitas - this guy was born to run an offense. He will not quit. You could see this last year - Tech went into that game against BC and after two series of Matt Ryan, I was saying - “who IS this kid?”
The gods have been kind to Atlanta. Watch this kid - he’s going far, and it will all be with and for Atlanta. This kid is a gem.
And all you folks who shouted me down when I said how dumb it would be to pass over Ryan - well, just sit back and enjoy it.

J. Anderson should be a servacible ‘d’lineman for the Falcons. In a year or 2 he will be an alternate on situation plays that will let him get playing time. Don’t give up on him too soon. But he is not a first team player on a winning team. He should have a long career as a good backup. And every team needs depth at “D” line.

Matt Ryan was smooth. Made one critical error which would have been fatal against top tier team. Hey, he IS a rookie! Keith “No Tackle” Brooking cannot use same excuse. This former Pro Bowler now an embarrassing liability. His non-action on final Pack touchdown completely unacceptable! Brooking is a has been well past his prime. It happens. Jamal Anderson is just a never was/never will be untalented piece of S++T! Deal his sorry A++ to anyone deluded enough to still think he has potential. He has none! BEAT CHICAGO.

It’s so great to have a respectable, competitive team again. I am indeed very proud of Matt Ryan but please let us not forget the contribution from the rest of the team and moreso the growing confidence and effectiveness of the OL along with the value of creating a winning and competitive atmosphere. Kudos to the management team and coaching staff. They’ve done an enormous job. How about Roddy White? 8 catches for 132 and a TD…..special!!! It will soon be cliche to say Ryan to Roddy.
They are a few fans who have been very hard on Jamaal Anderson. Don’t give up on him yet. I think Mike Smith and his team will soon find a way to get the best out of him. Keep the faith. We are getting closer and closer to a very good team. We are a few players away and while that is happening Matt Ryan and the OL are getting better and better.
Go Falcons!!!

There will be lows and highs, and let’s not make more out of this. It’s Matt Ryan’s rookie season. As long as he continues to improve, if he struggles occasionally on the road, (Tampa/Carolina) that’s to be expected.
The Falcons are in rebuilding mode. It’ll take 2-3 years to completely turn the team around into a legit playoff conteder.
However, we are seeing good coaching and overall progress right away. Falcons will continue to get better this season, I wouldn’t be surprised if they catch a few more “above average” caliber teams sleeping and beat them.
Six wins is not out of the questions, maybe even more. Not bad for a rebuilding team.
Matt Ryan will be judged after 2 years going into year number 3. By then we’ll know if he’s a “bust or not”.

I concur with Coach Mike Smith’s assessment that The Falcons took an important step in Green Bay today.
Also, I was surprised that the Fox announcers were trying to attribute Michael Turner’s lower rushing totals in the 2 losses to some kind of mystical force that has caused them to not play well on the road prior to this game.
It really should not have been such a hard thing for the announcing team to figure. The fact of the matter is that the Falcons 2 losses came against teams that play tough on defense. It was those 2 teams (Tampa Bay and Carolina) defense that shut down the Bird’s running game and not the mystical road bogeyman.

All I can say is I feel like an idiot for questioning for one second the decision to take Ryan over Dorsey. This new staff clearly knows what they’re doing. This team clearly knows what they’re doing. It hasn’t been this exciting to be a Falcons fan since the last time we went to Lambeau Field.
By the way, every year since the NFC South was formed, the last place team from the previous year has won the division the next year. The last place team of 2007? Your Atlanta Falcons…just sayin’…

It’s amazing what happens to the receivers when the QB hits them in stride with a catchable ball. Jenkins is even starting to show some of the promise he had when we drafted him. It is so refreshing to see a real NFL team with a great power running game and what is becoming a real deep threat. Way to go T. Dikmtroff. We could have drafted Dorsey, but we would have only had 1 player. TD made a great call and we ended up with 2.
Yes, its going to be 2 steps forward, 1 step back season but we have some real legitimate hope for the future. GO FALCONS

If we stay healthy then we’ll win at least 2 of the remaining division games. Of the other 9 games, we should win 3. So 8 seems possible at this point. 8-8 after what this franchise has gone through would have to be considered one of the greatest seasons in Falcons history. It’s possible, people.

My first falcons game was in 1989 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. What I saw that day was a rookie cornerback from Flordia State catch the opening kickoff and run it back 100 yards for a touchdown. This was my first game and it was his first time touching the ball in his career. I instantly fell in love with this team. Over the past 20 years there have been alot of ups and downs, Mostly Downs but I have stuck with this team and I still to this day feel the same way about this team. I can tell you this though, I have never been so proud of this team since that day. They said this team was going to go 1-15 this season. All I got to say is 1-15 MY AZZ.

In yesterday’s game is that Aaron Rodgers had a big day [300+ yards and 3 TDs], the Packers executed their ofensive game plan, and they cashed in on the end zone interception.
But the Falcons won anyway.
When you can go on the road, have your opponent play their game, hand them seven points, but walk out with a win despite this, you’re a good NFL team. I’m not saying ‘Super Bowl, here we come’ or anything ridiculous like that, but from what we’ve seen the birds may be a serious contender by next season, provided they can shore up the receiving corps and get some help in the secondary.
Suddenly the Bears and Broncos look like teams we can beat, and 7 or 8 wins is now a distinct possiblity. Simply being able to write this speaks volumes of Dimitroff, Smith, and the system they’ve implemented.

Hey Y’all:
“ONE HEARTBEAT!!!”. “ONE HEARTBEAT!!” These Falcons are steadily moving in “One Heartbeat!!” Man, these guys are playing together with some inspiring football. One game at a time. That’s how we will take them. One game at a time. The football community in Atlanta feel the inspiration of this team and we are on board in “ONE HEARTBEAT!!”. Therefore, let’s get your tickets for this Chicago game and play with “ONE HEARTBEAT!!” in kicking some Bears butt. We owe everyone in the league some butt kickin considering the difficulties we have had the last 2 years. The time is now. Let’s kick some butt in “ONE HEARTBEAT!!”.
The coaches and the players appear to be taking no prisoners when the opportunity comes for them to utlize their skill and talent to win these games. I am enjoying these guys learning under Mike Smith’s and his coaching staff system. This is some enjoyable football. I am really enjoying how Matt Ryan is throwing the ball. I mean, he was looking like Joe Namath out there in Lambeau Field. The only mistake was the interception in the end zone. This is fixable. The running game is stought and flexible. Teams are in trouble with the offensive line that we have. They are playing real, real nasty out there. The defense, what can you say, they are the “BOMB”. Big Grady and John Abraham and the guys are bringing it. Lawyer Milloy nearly took a guy head off out there. I will never forget that hit. It’s comming together y’all. “ONE HEARTBEAT!!” We are there in “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!”. See you all at the game on Sunday in “ONE HEARTBEAT!!!”
LET”S GO FALCONS!!!!

That was a good game and great win for the falcons…….this team and this staff have already exceeded the expectations for this yr as for as I am concerned. It is also refreshing to read this blog in particular b/c for the most part everyone is talking about the present direction of the organization…..however I see that there were two morons by the name fo mr. smith and paddy that could not resist posting something idiotic.

For the first time EVER I find myself looking forward to watching the Falcons play. I’m very impressed with the new leadership as well as the toughness that I see in the team. This could actually be a place that players want to come to.
As for Matt Ryan, WOW.
Nice Draft Pick

Hey Indifferent,
BC fan here. Love Matt Ryan. The Falcons are my second favorite team now behind the Patriots. Where is BC now? We are 4-1. Chris Crane is definitely not Matt Ryan, but, we are getting along alright. Looking forward to seeing Matt up at Chestnut Hill for the VT game. Don’t worry Falcons fans. You’re on the bye week.

Let’s not throw out all the regime with the bathwater! Some fans have short memories: Draft picks and other acquisitions from the past three years have been OUTSTANDING. Where would we be without Roddy White (who was called a “bust” after his first season), Michael Jenkins, Jerious Norwood, John Abraham and Lawyer Malloy? I think those were McKay picks, weren’t they?

Good win. Now that Matt has proven that drafting him first was not a bad thing, I would like to add something in reference to J. Anderson.
People, keep in mind what everyone was saying about Mario Williams outside of the Texans management. There was reasons behind his selection and the signability of Bush was not the issue. There was a footprint there that said that he would be a formidable athlete at his position. His first season was considered a bust. His first few games of year 2 did nothing to keep people from proclaiming his status as a bust but management stuck with him and was rewarded by seeing him live up to his potential. J. Anderson will do the same if management dont fold and allow him to plug along. His assention will take longer because he is in a rotation but he will be better none the less.
Lastly, screamers wanted. Call the Ticket Services Department at (404) 223-8444 or e-mail ticketservices@falcons.nfl.com

Where were you Matt Ryan suckers last week when the running game did not work and he sucked. Wen they win you want to give all the credit to Matt Ryan but all you people who don’t understand football you need to realize that if it was not for Michael Turner this team would probably be 0-5. So let’s not give Matt Ryan all the credit he is doing well managing the game and not loosing it. However, he sure as hell is not winning games tha run game and and the beast Abraham deserves more credit than what they are getting. But all white people have waited for this day so I will not still your thunder. Just hope that Michael Turner does not get hurt. Furthermore, this team is under much better direction than it was 5 years ago. Where we only relied on one player who delivered but you can not win with just one player.

Great win Falcons! John Abraham is playing lights out despite having no help on the other side. To all the Jamaal Anderson fans out there - both of you - you can’t deny he’s worthless. He’s never had his name called in 21 NFL starts. He hasn’t made a single tackle in 2 years let alone a sack. Cut your losses and trade him. He is holding the Falcons down.

Brooking has to go, he has become to slow to even play the run. All high drafts should be on the defense next year and with Smith being a defensive coach that will probably be the case, but a great win for a young team overall.

The keys here is Michael Turner, an improved OL and the draft choices. Most of the team remained as it was in 2007 except for Hall, Crumpler and Horn(the bad guys).Crumpler’s departure was a mistake but business is business. Ryan has exceeded ny expectations. No more negative comments from me.

A Summary, if I may:
Most comments talk about Ryan and yes the kid looks impressive, for a rookie. I did not see him play in College (except for that ridiculous BC win on the road against VT) but obvioulsy the “Ice” nickname is a good one. He seems like he is out playing in the yard. However, the key is these Falcons are now a TEAM!! TEAM. That, my friends, is the key. Obviously White, Turner, Abraham, coaching staff, etc deserve as much if not more credit than the QB. The key is the kid is taking the leadership role the QB normally assumes, and the is doing that by LEADING. Finally, a guy from a university where the athletes actually study and someone I can have my kids look up to!! They now want to go study at BC!! weird. (I don’t think they can get in, boo hoo) Now that, my friends, is change for the better. GO FALCONS.

NorthFLaFalcon condolences on your father’s passing.
This was the next level that we were talking about! Already we’ve seen that Atlanta’s success will be based on the same formula that every great team uses:
1) Solid play from the O-line, meaning little pressure on the QB and opening up holes in the running game
2) Turner being able to recognize and plow through those holes.
3) Ryan making minimal mistakes.
It seems that he is getting more comfortable on the road, and that will only make this team better. That fourth down call on the first possession was gutsy, and it shows that they have tremendous faith in his ability to get it done.
As for that one pick he threw in the end zone, I believe that he will adjust and not make those same throws in the future.
Defensively Atlanta really needs help in the secondary, but that will come soon enough. Overall I like where they are going as a team and can’t wait to see what happens at the Dome against Chicago!

Great road win for the Falcons. Lots of praise to go around. I must admit I have not been a Roddy White fan, but he has sure convinced me otherwise. I really like his toughness as much as anything. He gives as good as he gets from DB’s. My main concern now is the lack of a pass defense. Even with a bad shoulder, GB had over 300 yards in the air. That cannot be acceptable to Van Gorder and co. GB scored much too easily with the game on the line. Anyway, I won’t dwell on the negative. Anytime anyone beats the Packers at Lambeau, it is a BIG DEAL. Way to go Falcons.

The Falcon “win plan” this year, so far, has been get ahead and hold on. All wins are great thrills; but Ryan hasn’t shown any seasoned veteran savy and skill for making a comeback yet. He will prove himself when he takes the team from 9 points down, with 4 minutes left to play, and leads them to a comeback victory. That might not happen this year. It takes time to make it in the big leagues, even when the stars are shining from within.

The whole team has direction now and it can be directly related to Matt Ryan. I’m not a BC fan(they’ve been thumping my beloved Irish for quite a while now!) He is a leader. When you put a true leader in place the good in all the rest will stand out. Turner, White, Norwood, Abrams have all turned it up a notch. Regardless of how the Falcons finish this season they are only going to go up. They are a true team and will soon be feared by Cowboys and Titans alike!

The turn around for this team so far has been impressive. Are we bound for great things this year? Maybe not, but last year it felt like the wheels had come off. Blank and Mike Smith deserve a lot of credit for bringing stability and respectability back to the Falcons, and having done it in a very short amount of time. Matt Ryan looks like the real deal, please don’t make the mistake of trading him, and a big welcome to Michael Turner!

Matt Ryan stepped up yesterday. which is a great thing to see, however White’s play along with the O-lines play should not be undervalued! The O-line opened up wholes for Turner & Norwood when we needed them to & to keep the chains moving down the stretch, as well as the Defense stepping up after a tough preformance last week, starting the game with 3 straight 3 & outs was huge & so was the Int which saved Ryan’s butt after the pick which turned the momentum. But I am proud that he was able to come out & establish some confidence on the road, putting together his best game as a pro, Although this was the worst defense he has seen on the road thus far, since they are so banged up, missing a their starting corner (Harris,Safety,Bigbee, & D tackle (C. Jenkins)it was still a big game, confidence boast, & primetime preformance for a rookie! However, next week when he plays a health defense, who is deturmined to take Turner & the running game away & is willing to put 8 in the box EVERY PLAY to make him consistantly make throws to be able to come away with the win, & who was the kind of talent that the two cofrence foes that we faced earlier in the year who made Ryan look soo bad, that’s when I believe that we’ll see how much Mr. Ryan has grown! I hope he does well & that the home crowds support will aid him, bc the dome should be rocking after this victory, this SUNDAY will be the test & let’s see if he can get his first passing test against a real lagit, healthy NFL defense. I’m routing for him!

Sam Baker is looking more and more like a surefire NFL stud. Matt Ryan’s play so far seems to have silenced all the fools that posted all the DJ Shockley and Vick crap before the season - before Ryan ever took a snap. Well, knuckleheads - his first NFL pass was a 60+ yard TD strike, and he’s led us to 3 victories in 5 weeks. Come on, please pop back in with the DJ Shockley stuff now so we can all get a good laugh.

I was wrong. I was critical of drafting Ryan. I was wrong. Smith is building a no-nonsense football team, e.g. strong running game, good line play, hard but clean hitting defensive backs, and enough lightening in Roddy White to keep the other guys honest. Ryan fits that scheme perfectly-solid, good thinker, good enough arm, good enough mobility. This team is OK, and it will get a lot better with a couple of more drafts. I was at the KC game, though, and we (the crowd) didn’t seem really into it. This team deserves support. Go Falcons!

I love the way that Matt Ryan has played in the first 5 games so far this season. I love the way he has learned from his mistakes and has improved from week to week. One of the best things about him is he is making the Wide Receivers better, including Michael Jenkins it is amazing what an accurate armed quarterback can do to a receiving corps. As for Michael Turner and the rest of the offense they are all playing well and need to continue the great work this week against the Bears.

To Ross and Supes:
and all you other Falcon fans who finally seem to be getting what we up here in Boston have known for the 3 1/2 years that Matt Ryan was the starting QB for BC. He’s a winner, he’s tough as nails, he’s calm and poised and nothing rattles him. He is a solid QB beyond his years for a rookie. Notice i said solid. Because he will be great in another 2 to 3 years but right now he is going thru the learning process that every rookie QB must go through. He is much more mature and football savvy than other rookie QB’s i’ve been watching. Those of you down there that thought the falcons should have drafted a D-lineman with the first pick and taken Joe Flacco or Brian Brohm with with a second round pick, well just shows how much you know about football. Where are all you idiots now that were doing the hating and saying Ryan would be a bust??? And saying they should not have wasted the first pick on Ryan. C’mon, where are you……you know who you are. BTW….have you seen what Joe Flacco is doing for the ravens….not too pretty.
I grew up and live here in the Boston area and I watched or went to every game Matty started and played in 3 and 1/2 years. He is amazing but all you haters and doubters must remember one thing…….he is still a ROOKIE. Can you hear me…….he is still a ROOKIE. And rookie QB’s are going to make mistakes. It’s part of their growing process. But he learns from those mistakes. And the reason he was the top QB propect in the draft was because he CAN make EVERY throw. And he CAN throw the deep ball. I saw him do it almost every week. Ask the Georgia Tech team from last year if Ryan can throw the deep ball. And, once he adjusts fully to the speed of the NFL game and the elaborate schemes of the NFL he is going to be awesome. And, as soon as he has a full complement of weapons you will see what he is capable of. To do what he did at BC playing with receivers and running backs, none of who were even close to NFL caliber, well, it’s just incredible if you could have seen it like we saw it up here for the last few years. But you are seeing glimpses of it, so just be patient and appreciate what you have down there.
I’m a diehard patriots fan but also now a falcons fan. I watch every falcon game on NFL.com just so i can watch more of Matt Ryan.
So, all you haters, pessimists and phony Falcon fans……..get a freakin life and root for some other team. For all you true Falcon fans you got a winner and a great kid down there. Embrace it and enjoy it. I know that this new Falcon fan is going to enjoy it from Boston.

I love it. I’ve posted it all year, win or lose this team is finally headed in the right direction. All the way down to signing Elam (HUGE FOR US), this staff has an “idea” of what to do. Which we cannot say about past coaching staffs! They play hard and NEVER give up. This team plays hard every single play. There will be a lot of mistakes to come, from Ryan, from a young secondary and some young recievers. We will lose more than we win by the end of the year, but I am soooo excited. It’s fun to watch this team and hard not to root for them. VickBeliever vick is being redeemed right now, as he bends over for the soap. Vick will be great in the Arena league or the CFL, you can move to canada and watch him there. I think dog fighting is legal up there anyway. ahahhahahhahhahhahhahahah.

It’s nice to have a QB we can be proud of. It seems like he’s a responsible young man, with good character, strong resolve, good determination and ambition. He’ll be decent for a number of seasons. Look how he carries himself. It’s almost as if he’s not a rookie. He deserves a lot of credit. And while I was one to say, “Glenn Dorsey looks like a solid pick at #3,” I’m now glad the Falcons took Matt Ryan. It was probably the “right thing to do.” He’s the new face of the franchise. He’s doing a good job of being the face of the franchise. He’s leading by example on and off the field. What’s not to like?
As for Michael Vick, I do wish him well and I do hope he can resume his football career, after he’s done paying his debt to society. He’ll probably be quite fit after prison and eager to play for whichever team might want to take a chance on him. I’m sure Michael Vick would be grateful for another opportunity to show he can still play QB in the NFL. To be clear, once he’s done paying his debt to society, the slate is wiped clean. I won’t hold what he did against him anymore. And I’d hope that others wouldn’t either. But I think that “asking for too much.” And if Michael Vick’s character issues resurface, it’ll be hard for me to have sympathy for him. In life, the goal is to learn from your past mistakes. There are no perfect people. But those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them. I think Michael Vick has the capacity to learn from his mistakes. Let’s see if he does.
