Will unbeaten Dogs fall again?

And now for the Tuesday Countdown …

10: The only thing that could’ve made the Cowboys-Eagles game better was if I had just one of those players on my Fantasy League team. But no. I’m stuck with Matt Hasselbeck.

9: OK, I know the rankings don’t mean anything in September. But when exactly does this win-but-fail poll tumble end?

8: If Georgia wins “unimpressively” at Arizona State and Florida wins at Tennessee, it’s conceivable that the Bulldogs will fall again in the AP rankings to fourth behind the Gators. (The teams are separated by only 23 points now.) And if the Dogs struggle but win at home in two weeks against Alabama and LSU is coming off a road win at Auburn and a lopsided victory over Mississippi State, might not the Tigers leapfrog a couple of teams? And if Missouri annihilates Nebraska and Oklahoma State … seriously, at what point does unbeaten Georgia drop out of the top 10?

7: Just read the police report on Lawyer Milloy’s arrest for DUI and speeding. The officer wrote that during one of the field sobriety tests: “The third evaluation was the one leg stand. I asked the driver if he had any medical problems with his back, legs or feet that would prevent him from completing this evaluation. He stated, ‘I hurt my left foot.’” This won’t please the Falcons. Normally, NFL injury reports aren’t public until Wednesday.

6: Hot actress Megan Fox tells GQ magazine that she once fell in love with a female stripper. OMG! Does she drink Budweiser and eat Pop-Tarts, too? We’re, like, so twinsies!

5: Baseball playoffs: Yankees out, Dodgers in. Imagine this is going over differently in the Steinbrenner and Torre households?

4: Some appear to be in an uproar over Milwaukee firing manager Ned Yost during a pennant race. Why? What has Ned Yost ever done? He doesn’t have a resume (like Joe Torre) and the Brewers are about to fall out a playoff spot despite making one of the greatest trade-deadline acquisitions in years (C.C. Sabathia).

3: The Seattle Seahawks are 0-2 and, more importantly, assistant head coach/secondary Jim Mora’s defense just allowed 33 points to the San Francisco 49ers and 321 yards passing by an obscurity, J.T. O’Sullivan. Question: Is that plan to have Mora take over the Seahawks next season in stone?

2: The Thrashers are starting all-you-can-eat seats this season. Might I suggest you go for refills during the power play?

1: The Atlanta Dream just finished their season 4-30. Somebody probably should be fired, but I have no idea who works for them.

Apparently there is no end in sight for the Dawg’s fall. It’s depressing because probably the rest of our games will be close and therefore not “pretty” enough for the voters. I wonder why that didn’t matter 2 years ago when all of UF’s conference games were close?

It’ll be USC, LSU, OKLAHOMA,FLORIDA, MISSOURI by week 7.Y’alls Dawgs will have lost 3 games by then. Beating USC by 7 ?Hang your heads in shame ! LSU is cranking it up this year too-get used to it ! Geaux Tigers !

Actually the voters were pretty tough on Florida that year too. They jumped USC over them late in the season because they are USC and that is what the voters do with USC. If your team has the same record as USC, you can pretty much guarantee that USC will be ranked higher than your team. Why? Well, duh. They are USC. That answer should be obvious. USC had its “ticket punched” to the title game much like they apparently have now in the middle of September. Season over. Case closed. Class dismissed. Everybody go home because the show is over. Nothing to see here…

Joe, LSU has yet to play an SEC opponent for themselves. Have you forgotten that conference games are considerably more difficult than playing Appalachian State and North Texas? LSU’s season hasn’t started yet.

Yeah, we should have pounded them by 12 points like LSU did last year at home. That is so much more impressive. 5 whole points. Everybody bow down to LSU. I guess that doesn’t apply to Kentucky and Arkansas.

Who cares about the Atlanta Dream…I’m shocked that they made a Jeff Shultz column?

and Jeff…pretty good fantasy football day for me…I have Tony Romo on my team!

One last thing…Jim Mora doesn’t “want to be” the next coach of the Seahawks…he’s waiting on Washington to fire Willingham so he can have his “dream job” and coach there (which will be yet another ploy used by Jim Mora). He only took the seattle gig to get “closer” to UW job, and now he’s going to bolt and leave the Seahawks for the college ranks.

Nicely played by Jim Mora. Another Bobby Petrino.

We don’t worry in College Basketball, bASEBALL or any other college sport except Football because they settle who is best on the court or field.
College Football is biased and will remain that way until a playoff or some unbiased selection methods are developed. I am begining to really dislike my favorite sport because of it…..

UGA could quit crying if they played USC or some competent non SEC schools, but guess what ? Ga Southern and Central Michigan don’t fall into that category… Why not quit all of your usual whining until after the 7th week, by that time the real teams will begin to seperate from the pretenders…Oh and don’t let UGA fall on their keisters against ASU from the ” Pathetic Atheletic Conference” ala UCLA & Tenn…where’s that SEC superiority? hmmmmmm

Hate to sound like a conspiracy nut…but, I’m going to. The media has taken all of three weeks to set up the title game “the nation wants to see.” USC/OKL…let’s get that pesky Georgia out of the way…they don’t run up 80 points on out-matched opponents. UGA also gets no credit for an SEC road win like other teams do against those powerhouses Washington and Nevada. The only good news is that we play 4 of the current top ten teams…like someone else said…just win baby!

Hey Jeff, I think you may be right about UGA dropping, but UGA will be coming back up if they continue to beat the teams coming up on the schedule.

I hope that UGA won’t have a mental lapse, but it is a possiblity. My change in thinking is how the Dawgs handled themselves after the Tennessee loss. Mabye Coach Richt has got these guys thinkning in a better way.

By not surprised

The dawgs just need to keep winning and we should be alright….but its a joke how USC has been annointed the team of the century.Consider this they beat a Ohio State team that was way overrated and beat a Virginia team that UConn hung 50 on.The problem is they play nobody outside the conference and the Pac 10 is a patsy league as was shown this weekend 0 and 4 to the mountain weat and Maryland b** slapped Cal,meanwhile 5 top ten teams are from the SEC AND KILL EACH OTHER EVERY WEEK!!!!!

By chemdawg

Why should SEC teams play tougher non-conference teams when they play the majority of their games against the best teams in the nation + a conference championship game? As it stands right now, USC plays two ranked teams all season and will play in no conference championship.

As long as the dogs keep winning, it will all work out. Voters will have a hard time explaining how LSU or Florida are ranked ahead of them after the dogs beat them, whether it’s by 1 point or plenty. No such thing as an ugly 13-0 record. I’m with Richt, just win the games and the polls will work themselves out.

UGA will lose twice this year and miss out on the champioship game. They are very good, but the schedule is too tough. It will be Southern Cal vs either Oklahoma, Missouri, LSU or Florida for the National Title. IMHO, OF COURSE.

By BCD

September 16, 2008 2:04 PM | Link to this

I’m not concerned at all. I expect us to drop one spot possibly two, but then the SOS takes over. We’ve got to play 4 top 10 teams, as ranked this week, and two team in ASU and UT, that will probably find themselves back in the top 25 by end of season. I don’t care if we win each of those games by 1 point, that will be enough to do it. Remember that we’ll get one of those top 10 teams again in the SECC. Just enjoy the ride and stop trolling.

UGA will keep winning. so will florida. USC will lose to some pac 10 nobody and cry about how Sanchez had an ingrown toenail or something. Oklahoma will choke like they always do. Mizzou will lose once they play a real opponent.

UGA/fla will be for the #1 ranking in the country and for SEC East title.

I have a hard time arguing that UGA is better than USC and Oklahoma. On the other hand, it is worth noting that USC jumped us not after beating Ohio St, but after beating the worst team in the ACC (UVA was crushed by Connecticut and squeaked by 1-AA Richmond since USC’s impressive win over them). Then Oklahoma jumped us by beating the worst team in the Pac-10.

Now that Az St has lost, we’ll get no credit IF we beat them. I rarely ever agree with anything Schultz says, but he may have the “Perfect Storm” properly scripted. If Florida jumps us by beating Tennessee (which lost to a team that lost 59-0 this week) then we will no that there can be no happy ending.

Here is a point that everybody seems to be missing. The first poll is based TOTALLY on hype. Thusly things like winning but falling the polls early in the season is completely realistic. I agree with Todd Blackledge (ESPN) - there should not be any polls released until the 5th week of the season.

For God’s sake Dawg Nation, quit your wimpering! You haven’t even gotten to the meat of your schedule and you’re worried about falling in the polls. You still have a chance to beat Florida and LSU. Missouri and Oklahoma will more than likely play each other in a conference championship game, and Ohio State has just sealed their fate against USC. Win all your games and you’ll make it. Heck, if LSU can lose TWICE and STILL make it to the big game, you’ll make it if you go undefeated. If any team has a right to complain about the polls it’s Penn State. Sure, they’ve played 3 cupcakes, but they’ve consistently beaten them by an average score of 55-12. Some “experts” even picked Oregon State to upset the Lions in week 2. What about you Bama? Tulane?????? What about you Auburn? Mississippi State????? 3 points?????? Wisconsin??????? You got your head handed to ya by the Lions last year! And this year’s team is much better. Why are they ranked so freakin’ high????

By Fred

I’m a college football fan, not a UGA fan, but it seems to me that if you think about it, UGA would benefit falling to #4 and Florida going to #3.

How so? Well, when they play Florida, the win would be given more weight if they were lower in the standings. Thusly #3 beating #4 on a neutral field would not be as impressive as #4 beating #3 on a neutral field!

I know this has a little more thought put into it than the standard “WOOF WOOF WOOF - GOOOOOO DAWGS” fan puts into logical thinking, but bottom line is quit whining and win your games and you’ll be fine. If you hadn’t lost to Carolina last year, you would have had your shot at the title. Same applies here, don’t lose and you’ll get to WOOF WOOF WOOF all you want come January!

i love megan fox even more now. (sigh)

moving on…so, UGA could head into their bye week undefeated and five or more spots down from where they began? hmmm. sounds reasonable….(sarcasm). that’s one of the the things about a pre season #1 ranking, unless you are USC, OSU, or Oklahoma you have nowhere to go but down. but who didn’t see this coming, really? preseason number 1 team in the nation, and still doesn’t get picked to win their division, in their conference. if UGA had started ranked 10th, they would head into the bye a top three team. the discussion wouldn’t be “this team won, but they look flawed” it would be “this team looks strong in their win in spite of these key injuries”.
from here on, i say you can keep the preseason rank and hyperbole. i’d rather be under estimated than allegedly “overrated”.

As far as Ohio St. goes they are the most over rated team in the last 20 years. There was never any doubt when USC scheduled them, remember how they scheduled Notre Dame or should I say Wshed Up Dame.SC would never schedule a Florida or LSU. In order for them to play in the title game they have to continue to convince the liberal weak media how great they are. They’re good don’t get me wrong, but it’s like the Yankees in that they are media darlings with special privleges.

If anybody didn’t expect some sort of 14-7 game against SC, they must not have been paying attention for the entire decade. I think all but two games in the series were decided by single digits.

I also missed the memo about “he who defeats his opponents by the most points is the best team.” Pac 10 teams have been trying to pose this stuff on us for a long time. SEC defenses are much better on average, and some crappy program like SC has 80,000 rowdy fans in their home stadium.

Can the writers of the AJC please continue to write about how the “best team in the history of the world” will continue to drop in the polls? Over here in Athens, we love to cry and complain about this, and you are just fueling our fire. We can’t wrap our feeble minds around the fact that we have looked like crap thus far, and that the pollsters are expecting us to lose 2-3 games this year, which is inevitable.

After we lose our first game, will you write about how its time for the mutts to hunker down, so that we can all come in here and write things like Hunker DOWN! and Earn IT or even PROVE IT? That will certainly make us feel better, and we love our catchy slogans. Then, after we lose our second game, will you please play the blame game with us? Don’t say its b/c we just aren’t that good, we want to have someone to blame it on, so that we can all cry and moan about them (preferably refs, or Southerland).

Thanks for all the smoke you have blown up our butts AJC!! We also love the fact that you let us come on here and whine everyday about dropping in the polls. Pretty soon, if CMR doesn’t start winning with style points, we are going to start turning on him. Proving it….that we are overrated.

Funny, ever other paper - New York, Seattle, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Houston, the list goes on - not only runs articles (sometimes on the front page) but features on their local WNBA teams. Looks like Jeff and the good ol’ boys at the AJC can’t get it together.

Hell, they can’t even get it together enough at the AJC sports desk to run a simple AP feed for the last two games of the year. Any agate clerk ought to be able to do that.

Go Dawgs. Lets silence all the naysayers that we are number 1. It’s a Darn shame that these sports analyst and coaches determine who should be number one by the number of points scored on an opponent.

The SEC Is by far the most toughest conference in the NCAA. Not only the SEC Conference, but these College Football Teams located in Georgia are Darn good too. Georgia Southern University has several Championship Titles dating back since the early eighties.

For Georgia to beat Georgia Southern does not undermine the talent that GSU possess. The excuse the sports media were making was that the USC Trojans came to Va. (a Non Contender in the ACC) and demoralized them by running up the points, and that Georgia played a Division I AA Team. Well People, That doesn’t prove that they (USC Trojans) should be No 1 in the Country over the Georgia Bulldogs.

Then here comes week two, Ga vs USC (South Carolina) and won a close victory over the Gamecocks. Then they ( The Sports Media, Sports Analyst, and the coaches ) saw fit that Georgia should fall back to number 3 because a Big 12 Conference Team called OU (OKlahoma) beat another non contending team convincingly, and Georgia played a close game with South Carolina.

It should be noted again that the SEC is by far the toughest Conference again in the NCAA this year. That was a great defensive game overall between Georgia and South Carolina. Whatever happened to if you win, you stay ranked in your position, you lose, then you drop back?

SEC Power Florida Gators played very close games on their road to a national title, and the media kept them ranked. So why so much of the disrespect to Georgia?

We all know by now that those so called sports analyst from ESPN, and the media are bias against the DAWGS. They have their own favorites regardless of the team win loss record.

Now they can shut their mouths for a minute because the so called great Big 10 are not winning as they thought they would. The BIG 10, PAC 10 , and the BIG 12 are all over rated. You know, and I know it.

The PAC 10 has only one school ranked in the top 10. The Big 10 has none. with the Powerful SEC Conference having five teams in the top ten. This has never been done before. The SEC is dominating the top ten ranking as well.

The Dawgs deserve better and more respect than is given to them. So I say this: DAWGS, go over to Sun Devil Stadium, and run the numbers up on Arizona State University. This time, leave no doubt. Lets put these so called sports analyst voices to rest once, and for all.

I know that some of you critics may not like what I am saying. So I will say this:

“LIKE IT OR DONT LIKE IT. LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT, BECAUSE THE DAWGS ARE THE BEST THING GOING TODAY”.

Go Dawgs. Beat the mess out of ASU………………………

SEC fans are lot like Jeff Schultz… They talk a whole bunch of crap and think that the whole rest of the world is afraid of them…

Point 1: USC has never run scared of the SEC, came to big bad Auburn and stomped the living life out of them… Auburn goes 12-0 the next year and actually had the gall to talk about being ready for SC… Wasn’t two straight butt whippings enough… Oh ask Darren McFadden and the Soweeee Pig Party bunch? How many points did those SEC teams score on SC in 4 games? Now please tell me how scared the Trojans are of the SEC? Two words for that kind of rationalization: Ohio State!!!

Mike Garrett (the SC athletic director) has always had a open contract on his desk for any time that ANYBODY wants to go home and away with them…

Point 2: Jeff Schultz need to try write about age inappropriate women or young girls… Hey pedophiles will be pedophiles… Grow the F- - K up!!!
