East Cobb, what’s wrong with this sign?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Cobb County has been busy putting up new road signs to point to upcoming intersections along Roswell Road. The sign at Mitsy Forest Drive has a spelling that is at odds with most of the streets in the Mitsy Forest subdivision. For another view, check the map.
Perhaps somebody in the neighborhood knows why it’s spelled Mitsy in the first place. And which sign should be corrected? Hmm?

On pollen and leaf-blowers and the drought
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Before the drought, if you had too much pollen on your front walk or your car, it was a simple matter of getting out the hose and washing it away.
What are we to do this year? Just let it stay until the next rain?
Do you sweep it away?
And what about leaf blowers? I was thinking about this today as drifts of pollen stood on my car. In past seasons, I’ve even wondered if leaf blowers should be banned during pollen season. If you suffer from allergies as I do, you no doubt cringe when you pass a landscaping crew using a leaf blower to clean debris and pollen off the driveway or curb, kicking more of the yellow stuff into the air.
And then today, I had a thought I would not have had in the past. Is it acceptable in a drought to use a leaf-blower to get pollen off the front steps and the immediate area around your garage?
Surely not, and perish the thought. But what do you suggest?

Here’s a schedule of upcoming events at the amphitheatre from AccessAtlanta.
Do you plan to attend a concert there this year? Which one? Do you think the amphitheatre will be a success?

Is it time for Milton County to return?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Northside reporter Doug Nurse is writing today about the latest on efforts to separate North Fulton into a separate county from Fulton.
It’s pending in the Legislature and would require a couple of steps, including a complicated amendment to the state Constitution, to re-create Milton County. Read the details here, and you can also post comments at the bottom of the story.
Here’s a different question from the many posed in the story. Actually two.
1) What questions do you have about the Milton County proposal. (We’ll look at these and try to answer them in future stories.)
2) Alpharetta was the county seat for Old Milton County. Would you like to see it be the county seat again, or would you prefer another Northside city?

Remembering Dorothy Felton
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Dorothy Felton, who represented Sandy Springs in the Georgia House of Representatives for 26 years, died Tuesday at her home of complications from rheumatoid arthritis.
The funeral for Mrs. Felton, 78, will be at noon Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church. Sandy Springs Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Photo: An AJC staff photo taken in March 2000 shows Mrs. Felton at the end of her last term in the Georgia House. On her desk was a bouquet of flowers from her husband and a book titled “Georgia On My Mind,” a gift from the Republican Caucus.
Sign the guestbook here for Dorothy Felton, and you can also leave your thoughts and memories below. Some of these may be used in the upcoming Northside print section.
A news article about Mrs. Felton is online and in the Friday print editions of the AJC.

We have to get rid of the leaves. They clog street drains, provide cover for insect pests, smother grass, and stain concrete walks and driveways. Just buy a mulcher blower. It sucks the leaves into a bag and grinds them up. You can then use the stuff as... read the full comment by Gardener | Comment on On pollen and leaf-blowers and the drought Read On pollen and leaf-blowers and the drought
