Picking the final fours: We’re liking Wheeler, Redan
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Get a load of McEachern’s draw in the state tournament. Mike Thompson, McEachern’s coach, is probably on the phone w/ the GHSA on Monday to discuss the merits of using the RPI ratings to seed Class AAAAA.
McEachern, a region champ with no losses in Class AAAAA, is looking at Walton, a top-10 team; Norcross, the three-time defending champion; and Wheeler, the team I’m picking to win it.
The bottom quarter of the draw has those four teams in it. Any could win state. Three have been nationally ranked. They’d thrive under the NCAA’s way of seeding March Madness.
Two years ago, Norcross had to play Wheeler in the first round, then Meadowcreek, which was 26-2; and Marietta in the QF. That was pretty tough. But I would take that over McEachern’s gantlet this year.
Here is my shot at picking the final fours. I think McEachern will make it, but not win it all.
