Calhoun 10 Brooks County 7

Calhoun scored a TD on their first possession. Brooks drove down and fumbled on the Calhoun one yard line. BC then sacked the QB recovered the fumble in the Calhoun endzone to make it 10-7.

The reason GPB choose the Camden game is they don’t give a rip about ratings. If GPB was not gov’t funded and had to worry about ratings they would be showing Grayson and The Ridge

I picked Grayson and PR to be tied 7-7, at half, but who could have picked the Camden score. These two teams are actually closer in talent, than it appears. So far it has been Murpheys Law for Newnan.An unforced fumble on the first drive, and an offsides on the first D play. A Camden fumble to their own player for a touchdown, and another fumble by Newnan.GPB may get their monies worth in the second half.

Any further updates on the LaGrange/Flowery Branch game? My husband couldn’t get the day off work or we would have driven all the way from Jacksonville, FL to see it. GO GRANGERS!

The stations here cover Camden County so at least I get to watch decent HS highlights on TV tonight. Florida HS football stinks compared to what ya’ll are so blessed to see in Georgia.

Regardless of who wins or loses, I pray that no one gets hurt.

Calhoun threw a hail mary into the Trojans endzone for a touchdown and a 24-14 lead at the half against Brooks County. The ball was tipped by a Trojans player and caught by the Calhoun receiver who was on his back.

Brooks County returned the 2nd half kickoff for a touchdown to narrow the margin to 24-21.

Let me be the first to congratulate the Tucker Tigers on a Dominating win over the Griffin Bears. We got slap beat down. (I post this even before the first half is over!) I see no way of a comeback as the Bears seem very overwhelmed at this point. Goodness gracious what a good team Tucker has. Best of Luck in the championship game Tucker. I just came in from the Wesleyan-Lincoln County game. I live in Norcross, where Wesleyan is located. They had a couple of calls go against them (actually ok calls. If anyone from the game comments, the blocked punt crossed the line of scrimmage and was touched by a Wesleyan player making it a free ball.) I was just below the press box and a ref was leaving the press box to join the others in the locker room and was treated in the most obnoxious manner I have ever seen by adults. I had to leave at that moment because I did not want to be around the most classless adults I had ever seen. What is even worse, they are recognized as a “Christian school” Congratulations Wesleyan, your school wins the award for the worst adults I have ever seen.

Let me be the first to congratulate Tucker on a Dominating win over the Griffin Bears. We got slap beat down. The Bears were simply overwhelmed by a more athletic and better team. Goodness gracious what a super team Tucker has. Best of Luck in the championship game Tucker. Maybe we will meet again one day. Griffin will hopefully be in the playoffs again next year.

Marist had 4th and goal from the 4 yd line with 6 seconds to go and ran a reverse. The receiver got hit on the 3 and barely landed across the goalline as the clock ran out. They overcame 2 fumbles, 2 blocked punts, and a blocked extra point tonight and still got the win. Unbelievable.

How about singing a new song, Buford has no need to recruit. Those boys on that field tonight have played at Buford since the beginning. They lost almost their entire starting lineup last year and they moved around players and built another winning team. LOWNDES SCORE and that means your team may still have a prayer….so be glad. Keep coming back to check though just to make sure it isn’t that dream whos bubble you are afraid may get busted any time because you are afraid you are asleep and it is all a just a dream you are worried will turn into a nightmare.

Great game Camden and as I posted earliear about Newnan something about those late game run up scores of theirs in recent weeks weren’t as they seemed. Those sorry first halves finally caused that train wreck when up against a very good team.

Kids come to Buford because they put the kids in a better position to play in college. The coaches do not recruit; parents come to them. Buford has put the most kids in D1 schools than anyone in the state. They also teach fundamentally sound football. BTW, Buford has only 700 or so kids in the school, of course they don’t play 5A football. If they did, they probably wouldn’t do as well as they do in 2A, but they’d be competitive.

How about those PR lions. Congatulations, from your new biggest fan. The announcers in the Camden game said the game was one on the fairway of the 8th hole, and on the 18th green. I have had history teachers that were more exciting than that. the one guys voice got softer has the game got late. I actually started feeling a little dirty for listening to him in the 4th quater. I hate to go on about it, but that really was unbelievably the most boring football game I have ever listened to in my entire life.

They played my son’s JV team in 2007 for the championship and they brought down most of their varsity players with Storm Johnson and many others “STAR” Varsity players! That’s OK though our JV Played them again this year and WON!!!

I’m sure I will get some grief on this but who cares!! Buford did cheat, I’m sorry, you don’t bring down Star Varsity players to kill a JV team IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME and then go “play” your regular game Friday night.

PR wins over Grayson, who won over Lowndes. That just goes to show us two things. One, Lowndes is not even the second best team in the state, and Two, Harrison would have beaten Lowndes also.The Camden / PR game will be a good one, I just can’t go against those lions. Defense wins championships, and the Ridge D is the best in the state. Camden just thought they were up against a tough D tonight, wait til next week.

was hoping lagrange would win (definitely didnt happen) the kid 27 won the game for FB, shaw was just there to take the snap and hand the ball off despite the long TD, but that kid 27 just completely dominated lagrange’s defense where else, right up the middle…never in my years as a granger fan have i seen someone BEAST the granger defense the way he did.

newnan— i was one definitely skeptical of camden, but after finally seeing them, the really made a believer out of me, now if they go ahead and join 1AAAAA, they could play a meaningful regular season lol

I think the best two teams are in the championship game next week, in Peachtree Ridge, and Camden. Camden is fast, quick, and really does a good job of getting to the football. I really liked the play of Camden tonight, and their class. The head coach seems like a great guy. PR is also a great team that hits as hard as anybody, and yet maintains a great deal of class, and respect for the game. I wish both teams well, and congratulate you on your seasons, and look forward to seeing you in the dome next week. You both represent our state well, and either of you will be great champs.

To Hoya Dawg:

First, since your team is out, please shut up.

Second, Lowndes beat Peachtree who beat Grayson, so your logic, or lack thereof, sucks.

Third, Lowndes made it farther in the playoffs than Harrison. So your logic sucks.

Fourth, Lowndes won 3 of the last 4 state titles, Harrison and Grayson have each won 0 out of the last infinite # of state titles. So your logic sucks.

I’m not a Lowndes fan, but it sure seems like a lot of you are surely obsessed with Lowndes, and they didn’t even play.

you’re ripping on the parents for praying over the lockers. They weren’t praying to win the game or for God to give them an advantage over the other team. Thats not how it works. You pray that the players are safe, learn from they’re experience whether with a win or loss, and that they can win and/or lose with dignity and pride which Grayson did. Brookwood mom Maybe you don’t realize it but it is legal for player to play in a JV and Varsity game. You just aren’t allowed to play for a full game in both. So you must split your playing time that week between JV and Varsity. So they didn’t “cheat”. And you say they brought down the “star Varsity player” Storm Johnson. He was a Sophmore last year!!!! He barely even played on Varsity. He was like the 4th string RB behind 2 D-1 bound Seniors and a D-1 bound Junior. And Eddie, to answer your question, the most recent scores Buford has put up on 5A schools are 42-21 against a Texas team (well they were actually 4A), 35-7 against a 5A Ohio team, 35-7 against East Coweta, and 42-21 against Central Gwinnett. The local 5A teams wont play Buford, so the last two years theyve been going out of state for games.

I give Coach Conn a lot of credit for ‘thanking’ GOD this season. I think all coaches should thank GOD after every game win or lose! There is definitely nothing wrong with these players having faith and believing. It makes the world a better place to live in when you do have faith. I love my GOD and will tell everyone that I love GOD and I thank him daily for all of my blessings!! Before anybody gets “offended” I know this is not a church sermon for bloggers, I am just being honest. I don’t think anyone should be made fun of becuase of thier faith!

Congrats to Camden on tonights win…..Will you guys let Milstead throw the ball!……I guess we all saw the REAL Newnan against REAL competition tonight….The # 1 defense and the #2 offense in AAAAA…PLEASE!….Maybe in region 4..Newnan is a top 10 team in AAAAA definitly not a Championship or a top 5 team…..Northside and Woodstock gave Camden more competetive games….Northside only had Bacon on offense this year against Camden and we still put up 20 . And Camden had to come from behind to win

BTownfootball: Thank you for the clarification. I do know that they do bring down Varsity players to play on JV, but not the whole team!! From what I was told, Buford didn’t have that many JV players that was the reason they brought down most of the varsity players. I know Storm was a sophomore but I thought he was a key player. He played a good game against us I can tell you that!! ANYWAY, that is all I know about Buford, I don;t know anything about them playing “soccer” either.

Why does everyone think I am a soccer mom??? I know I don’t know everything about football, you can tell that! but a soccer mom come on now! oh and I don’t sit on pedal stoole’s either LOL!!

I’m a senior football player from East Paulding High School, who moved from South Cobb this year!(best thing I’ve ever done) and this has been one of the most interest/exiting football season I’ve had, our region was the absolute hardest but excuses aren’t my style! No problem Brookwood mom I still dont know exactly what you mean when you say they brought down varsity players. It actually doesnt work that way. But, you can do the opposite and let JV players play on the Varsity squad for a limited amount of time depending on how much they played in their JV game. But a Varsity player is a Varsity player. They would be disqualified if they tried to play a strictly varsity player in a JV game. It may have seemed like a lot of players, but I assure you that they were all JV. I believe there are about 26 seniors this year, and nearly all of them were JV players last year since the senior class last year was loaded with great players. And Storm Johnson is a great player. He is playing a big role this year on Varsity and is getting offers from tons of SEC schools. But last year he wasnt a key player b/c he was behind so much other talent.

I attended the Buford-Fitzgerald game tonight. Buford is a very physical,Big, quick team. There were alot of missed calls by the ref’s that would have made it closer but that is how the game goes. Buford was the better team tonight hands down, i think they have a farm where they grow them boys. My hat is off to all Buford fans, if you were at the game alot of calls made by fitzgerald made you wonder, why keep going up the middle when they got 700 lbs on the line? Good luck Buford, all of 1-AA goes home the same night. We had a great season..

I was wondering the same thing. I dont know why they kept trying to pound it up the middle. I think that they were hoping to wear down the line eventually. It became slightly more effective as the game went on, but it never amounted to much. Ill tell you what though… that Jemea thomas is pretty fast. Even though there were a lot of JV players in, that last touchdown of his was impressive. It was a good game.

Eddie I have a hard time believing that anybody would pray to God to win a game. but like the one poster said, praying is something we can never do too much!! And I don’t know if you hate them or not but if you can’t even say the word Christian without abbreviating it like you did (xstians) that might be an indicator on where your beliefs are!!

I sure am glad I did not go and sit on the wet grass to watch the #1 defense get blown out. And now we have to play another team that claims to have the #1 defense. It is amazing how that happens!

Lowndes is still the premier program in the state. They should have never lost to Grayson. The coaching staff made a big mistake by pulling the starters in the first two rounds of the playoffs. They got rusty and they were not mentally or physically prepared to play a good Grayson team. All things equal Lowndes beats Grayson 8 out of 10 times. They underestimated Grayson and paid the price. Grayson was beat tonite by a team that Lowndes beat easily this year and certain fools on this blog wanna make comments like Lowndes isnt even the second best team in the state. Other fools wanna get on here and ask what the Lowndes score was tonite. You are all so envious of this program that you gotta keep talking about it even after it has been eliminated. Guess what? You’ll be talking about it again next year too. Why? Because Lowndes is a WINNER and always will be. Good luck PR. You have a good football team and class A fans. OT thanks I appreciate it and you are right but the pain of a whipping like that takes a while to get over..(I did not appreciate hsballfans smarmy comments though). I feel for the Seniors the most I spoze…most of them will be taking those pads off for the last time. As I stated way earlier this week. I knew coming in that Griffin was probably up against it. We started the Year off by Beating Marist in our pre-season game (scrimmage?) Hopefully Tucker will finish the Deal and get the win for the Championship. Best of Luck from the Bear Nation. Oh my goodness, if you were at any other game then Ptree and Grayson you missed the nail bitter of the year. Ive never seen two teams so ready to play! Thank you Ptree ridge for showing soooo much class. It was a pleasure playing and being in your stadium. I think GOD wanted this Grayson team to show this state how to lose with class, and we did. Ptree ridge team also won with super class. This was high school football at its best. I hope Ptree Ridge wins it all next week and brings the title back to Gwinnett. I am sooo glad you boys dont have to play in Camden. We will be there to sit on your side a cheer!!!!!

I have been saying all year that everyone is sleeping on Camdens offensive line. Kameron Taylor #55 is a BEAST. Then you have a triple threat in the running backs. I wish they would practice Christian Milstead throwing to DeAngelo Smith more. The defense is also outstanding Darrell Williams and Marquevious Myers are also BEAST. The Wildcats will win the State Championship….

I spoke with my brother in law and a cousin who was at the Brooks/Calhoun game and both said that the Brooks kid got in the endzone…..what a shame!!!! I pull for Calhoun as well as my wife is from there, but any real fan hate to see a game come down to this!!!! Even if my son played for Calhoun, I wouldn’t want the game to be taken from the other team like that. How can two referees signal touchdown and it be overruled….boy that sounds real fishy!!!! Before everybody jumps on me let me just remind all that I’m a TCC yellowjacket fan first, but I pull for other south ga teams!!! My thing is I just hate to see the refs take a game from a group of kids like that!!! One thing is for sure…video evidence will show it all…and if the refs missed this one they should lose their credentials and never be allowed to call another game in the U.S. ever!!!!!

Grayson got what they deserved. The same antics that they got away with last week (i.e. holding, blocking in the back, jumping offside, illegal procedure, and false starting) they were called on it tonight. The refs helped you out last week, but you were on your own tonight. Way to go Peachtree Ridge. And rams don’t think you really won that game last week without help.

The Ptree Ridge players were not only shaking hands with our players after the game, they were doing some hugging out there, I just can say enough for both these teams, they respected each other so much. One Ptree Ridge family was so humble after the game , they came over and told us , it could have very well been their seniors last game and they felt for them, they also said there were no bragging right there, that this game was no blow out and could have gone either way.

Since I expected the AJC to provide abysmal coverage of the Class A Semi-Final between Wesleyan & Lincoln County, I attended the game. Congratulations to Wesleyan! They beat a bigger, stronger, and faster Lincoln County team. I found it cowardly the Lincoln County coach, Larry Campbell, would whine to the AJC about Wesleyan having an unfair advantage because they are a private school. The high school at Wesleyan has less than 450 students, but that’s beside the point. Lincoln County had a much larger team in terms of players. Wesleyan has many players going both ways. Instead of preparing “his woe is me” diatribe, Coach Campbell would have been better served preparing his undisciplined football team for an important game. #2 in the state and he could only manage to call two good plays the entire game? Would have been worse for LC had they not received A LOT OF HELP from an amateur officiating crew. I will go with Wesleyan in the championship game against ECI and their injured running back Washaun Ealey. The Wolves are a very well-coached, disciplined, and conditioned teaam.

Seriously? This is one of those typical South Georgia guys, like the 7th year seniors they use down there to cheat every year. Maybe they should focus more on grammar, and less on football.

First of all you got this side of South Georgia twisted. This game had nothing to do with grammar. btownfootball I am glad someone else saw what i saw. I played for Fitz in 91 playoffs against Dublin and when something didn’t work, we mixed it up and tried something else. Buford kept Fitzgerald guessing on whats next. A very hard fought game and what i will add, the sportsmanship was wonderful they helped eachother up after plays, giving ups for good hits and runs. I live in Roswell now but I followed Buford all year dreeding this night knowing the championship has to go through Buford. Good job guys you made your point as the top football program this decade. I will be supporting Buford in the DOME!!!

Reeze: Thanks! It was a cold start, but Tucker got down to business in the second quarter and took control. That’s been the Tigers’ pattern this season. They just don’t seem to come out with a lot of intensity, and then all of a sudden, they explode. The weak start killed them in the first Marist game; hopefully they won’t make the same mistake in the Dome. The kids really WANT this second chance, and by the way, Bear Backer, the first Tucker Marist game was on TV, too, so there’s one more thing to atone for.

Observations on Camden/Newnan

Despite the score, this was a very good football game. Newnan showed me that hey are a very good football team and it was obvious that their defense would overwhelm all but the best of teams. That being said, Camden showed why they are one of the outstanding teams in the State. Their defense was outstanding all night. The ability to take away the running game was apparent and when you can force a team to throw and then pressure the qb, it normally adds up for a very long night. Couple that with winning the turnover battle and it pretty much sums up the game.

Camden offense was able to do what they had to do and capitalize on turnovers, but they were limited somewhat by a good defensive effort from Newnan.

To the Camden fans who want to throw more…Woody Hayes, legendary Ohio State coach was once asked why they did not throw more…he responded “When you throw the football only 3 things can happen and 2 of them are bad”…in addition, it does not take time off the clock when you are not succesful…Camden normally controls the clock and keeps the other guys defense on the field which a) makes them tired and b) very important in the case of Newnan….keeps their offense on the bench….last time I looked, the O cannot score from there.

Newnan showed me why they were able to dominate most of their opponents and should be congratulated on a great season.

Camden showed, once again, that defense wins championships and when they put 4 quarters together, they are a team that is very difficult to contend with. To those of you still not convinced, I suggest you actually watch this team play before you make some of the inane comments regarding the Camden schedule/Region.

DmanJ: Easy there big guy!! I do agree with you that Coach Crews should have definitely played the 11th graders, but you still have to have respect for him. He has been coaching alot longer that you have probably been alive. Brookwood will bounce back next year. We were in the “rebuilding stage” we still have the talent and it will show next yeat. Just because this has been the worst year since 2001 does not mean the Coach cannot coach!

Brookwood Mom is proud of the Rams and very proud of Peachtree Ridge. The game was definitely a nail bitter and both teams played their hearts out.

To bigboy: Why can’t you give credit where credit is due? Camden may play a weak schedule during the regular season (we don’t create the schedule) but we are 14-0 and are going to the DOME for the state champsionship. To: HSBalifan: Don’t be so fast on the draw in your claim that no middle ga team made it to the finals. Let me remind you that ECI is in middle ga. Twin City (ECI)is just outside of Swainsboro ga. ECI is in 1A but is just as proud as being the defending state champs as Lowndes, Northside (were—until next week), etc. Their running back Washuan Ealy, a Georgia signee is proclaimed by many to be the number one back in ga. He is a AJC super 11 player.

Hey guys, sorry I have been absent for much of the day, but been running around doing holiday stuff. A couple of thoughts and observations on one heck of a Friday night.

I was at Marist-Rome last night, and what a game. Both teams were just slugging away at each other all night long, and I can’t say enough about the defenses for both teams. Both teams took away the others’ biggest weapon, and it made for one heck of a game. And the finish was amazing. Both teams made some mistakes, but I really can’t think of a better played, better coached or better game that I have seen this year.

That being said, I wish I could have seen that Grayson-PtreeRidge game. Someone asked how much homefield advantage PTR would have since the two schools are so close. I would say about three points worth.

Will everyone please stop talking about Camden’s schedule now? I’ll be the first to admit that the Wildcats play perhaps the weakest schedule in their region, but they do the right thing by seeking out the best to play in non-region competition. Until someone beats them, this whole “weak schedule” argument is ludicrous.

Tucker, much respect. I’m not really a Tucker hater, just thought that history in the semis would play out again. Now, it is on the Marist, and I can guarantee you that it will not be 38-0 again the second time around. I fully expect the AAAA game to be the best in the Dome.

Would love to see the video of the final seconds of Brooks-Calhoun.

I really thought Fitz would put up a better fight at Buford. Not that Fitz still isn’t a good team, but Buford is definitely bringing its A game right now.

JAYBO, the officials are assigned by the GHSA and are usually from a neutral area. For instance, at Brooks-Calhoun, they could have assigned officials from say, the coast or middle Georgia. The officials themselves are the “A” team for each association, and that is determined by the association itself. Again, all of that is usually.

To all of the Camden Co fans which includes coaches and players from the Punisher….you guys have all of my respect and without a doubt you have the best team in the state and one of the best teams in the nation. You guys kicked our butt (Newnan) fair and swear and you all deserve to win the state championship. My hat off to you. to mancow. well said, a program like lowndes dosen’t just go away, they just reload. and come back at you twice as hard. Rest assured no one in lowndes are hanging thair heads, we are already working on 09. Soooooo those of you who like to make little quips about lowndes having one bad night in two years,go ahead and enjoy your moment in the sun. Gotcha HSBalifan—-We are on the same page! Speaking of braggarts from the triangle of teams to include Newnan, LaGrange, and Griffin— the chiefs among them are Slalom 1 and Drock08. Slalom 1 said on a post that Newnan may have the best Defense he had ever seen in HS football. That was powerful! Drock08 from day one said no team in ga was good as Newnan because coaches from all over had confirmed this fact. Oh well, I am just letting off some steam. I saw Tucker vs Westside in the rain in Macon. Tucker couldn’t have lost to Marist by 38-0. This is a different team. They will win state.

Mancow: Peachtree Ridge is going to the State championship game for the second time in 3 years and in our 6 years of existence. that’s 33% of the time. I bet no other team in AAAAA can match that, even Lowndes or whatever over-hyped south Georgia team you hail from.

Everyone can stopp blogging about the other teams, and leave space for the teams who have risen to the top of the pile after a long grueling season. Props to the rest, now is the time for the best. 13 Decemebr is for the contenders, not the pretenders. Football is a funny game where anyone can be beaten at anytime. True champions can riseup during adversity and compete. Pridge season started out adverse, they weathered the storm, and are now in the Championship game for 5A. The Wildcats had to deal with some adversity during the season and wethered the storm to arrive in the Championshi game for 5A. The other divsions, I don’t follow, so I don’t know their situations. However 5A sports I follow and their is much talent out there. Are the best 2 teams meeting on 13 December in the Dome? Yes. This game is decided on the field, not on paper. No matter how many D1 players are on other teams during the season, the teams that execute and survive adversity will rise. With that beig said, P-Ridge/Camden will bring a Cat Fight to the Dome. Here is a good opportunity for all programs to represent Georgia High School Football by attending whatever championship game you desire, or attend all of them. I intend to be there at the kcikoff for the 1st game and stay until the horn of the last game. If it is God’s Will. Let’s show everyone what Georgia Football is all about. Great season to all of the teams, coaches, support staff nd moth important the parents.

Mancow what do you know about football? You worship region 1 AAAAA but are any of them in the 5A state championship game? naw didn’t think so. Yes i agree they are an excellent and competitve region but Lowndes did lose to Grayson…that says it for itself. None of region 1 made it past the 3rd round anyways! Sorry son your the one thats needs to wake up and accept the fact that region 1 isn’t as great as you think it is. Better luck next year BABY

I have coach and grew-up around great high school football. I watched a great game between Brooks County and Calhoun until the line official at the goal-line made a no call/ or just took the game out of the kids hands by not clarifying his call before the clock ran out. I was standing on the field at the goal-line and witness something I thought had been erase out of athletic; the officials determining the outcome, not the student athlete. It’s a sad day in athletics when we can’t call on directly what we see, regardless if it not what we want to happen. I hope the official on the visit side read this comment because I know you are having problems sleeping and looking yourself in the mirror. Also, there was camera footage at the goal that clearly validates the kid breaking the plane falling across the goal-line.

I think the folks up in Atlanta can’t handle the fact that Camden County has a good football team. If you was to listen to the Georgia High School Scoreboard post game show on the radio. you will always hear them bad mouth Camden. You know they say we don’t play anybody good through out our season and that might be true. But we sure have played some good teams the last couple of weeks. So where is the respect that these young men deserve?

Those of us who love the Ridge know that our kids are awesome. Seeing all these wonderful posts about them and their great display of sportsmanship just makes my heart swell with pride! Posters, thank you for taking the time to write such encouraging things. Both Grayson and the Peachtree Ridge kids have a lot to be proud of! Good job guys!!

All other Gwinnett teams, please know that the Ridge is going to represent you well. What we do need, though, is a HUGE cheering section! So please, everyone come on down to the Dome and cheer on the Lions!! Wear your jerseys so everyone can see how well Gwinnett is being represented! Let’s show “the South” and everyone else out there who said that a “northern” team wouldn’t make it that ALL of Gwinnett sticks together because we’re #1!!
