Counting on LOWNDES to remain undefeated tonight against GRAYSON. I think Grayson will be out matched when it comes down to speed on defense. I just don’t see Grayson pulling off the upset even if the game is being played in their back yard. I’m proud of all the support Lowndes is bringing. Hope Grayson has enough seating. I know Lowndes will be bring several charter buses. Lowndes sold out down here. Don’t know exactly how many tickets Grayson sent but it will be packed. GO VIKINGS GO

I’m off to thebanks of Lake Hartwell to cover Lincoln County (11-1) - Wilcox County (12-0) in a Class A quarterfinal. Should be a great game…..Wilcox averages 38 points per game, but Larry Campbells’ Red Devils are only giving up five…..Irresistible force meets immovable object? We shall soon see. Don’t know that much about Wilcox, but Lincoln Co. is used to being here……will send updates if possible.

Wilcox’s record speaks for itself. it is up against a good team in Lincoln, but does anyone know why best record does not enjoy home field? coin flip? Home feild is huge in the playoffs and in my view best record deserves it, unless both records are equal in which case a coin flip would be fair.

AG Middlebrokks got Lincoln on the board late in the firs,but Wilcox’s Antonio Marshall has two scores in the second. The difference may conversions. As for where the WHS bloggers are, i think there were only two of them…and one may be playing and the other is busy in the stands…can’t answer for the Camden folks. I’m stuck at home getting updates by text cause the darn computer won’t pick up the audio cast. It’s a nail biter here at home for me though! I pray for an injury free game for all teams playing tonight!

Grayson has controlled the ball for most of the first half, Lownded has outgained them with a couple of big plays, Lowndes has fumbled 3 times. lost 1 recovered 2, Grayson has not fumbled once! so Far have to admit Grayson has outplayed Lowndes in the first half

I am not questioning loyalty or enthusiasm, it is just poor sportsmanship and unprofessional to broadcast in such a biased manner. What are we teaching the kids to openly dispute calls by the officials. Camden deserved to win the game, they outplayed WHS. The end of the broadcast was much more gracious!

HoyasRock…Camden is in (from So. Georgia) and Lowndes isn’t out yet. Cairo is in also.
I though Lowndes would win tonight, but lose to Peachtree Ridge. I was not that serious about Woodstock winning, but not surprised that they did well. IMO if Harrison and Etowah had remained healthy it would have been one of them winning the quarter finals. Peachtree Ridge is for real. I expect them to be at the dome for sure.

the announcer from lowndes sayn they was movin offside all night
They replayed a supposed offside for Grayson, and it showed that they were not offside. Lowndes got frustrated when they still had a chance and lost. Not used to playing tough teams? Gotta wonder about those small running backs from Grayson and Harrison. They slip through the cracks. Gotta have a great line for them to do well though.

Lot of class shown in the last few minutes by the Vikings. Lack of discipline cost them a chance to win, and I’ll bet there will be some serious whining about the officiating. Also about not being able to job the opponents on the Lowndes field. Too bad. They richly deserved to lose.
4 teams left in AAAAA and none from the great Region 1. How is that possible. We all know the only place real football in the state is played in south Georgia.

27 seconds left in the Grayson/Lowndes game and Lowndes starts a fight. It doesn’t sound like the Lowndes team that Yo has talked to us about. I don’t know what sparked it, but anyone who has ever played sports, especially football, knows it’s hard to control the aggression that this game brings out. My hat is off to both teams, both teams displayed good sportsmanship until the last play of the game.

I hate to hear some of the comments by the Lowndes announcers. They seem to be blaming the loss on the officials. Of course I wasn’t there, but it sounded like Grayson just shut down Lowndes’ offense tonight, plus Lowndes killed themselves on a few plays. Some of our fans were saying the same things when we lost to Lowndes.

Just a few words for the departed Lowndes football team. See what it’s like to have a play-off game away from your home field? Plus, you were beat when your players started arguing among themselves and pointing fingers at your teammates. To summarize what I saw from the Lowndes program: a total lack of sportsmanship. Go home and the next time you come to Gwinnett County bring some CLASS (and a better team).

I rest my case. I believe this is the score I predicted. I thought Lowndes played a great game, very even, but was a little disappointed in both teams at the end of the game.
300 yards rushing, count on it. How about 188 total yards? Pemberton rushed for 181. Enough gloating, but I have been telling you all this for three weeks. Grayson matched up well against Lowndes.
Lowndes, you guys traveled very well, almost filled the visitors stands, in the cold and wet. And every school strives to have the program that you have.

Lowndes…..really sore losers……many of the Lowndes were taking swings, rushing on the field to brawl….wow. Grayson coach was a class act, talked about community and prayers. They played their talent…..what a great team and community. Grayson won this game when Coach Conn won the coin flip. Everything just happened the way it needed it to. Rain, crowd, and turnovers. Great job Grayson, way to not lose their heads and win like champions.

The talk is always about which (region) in each class is superior. Forget region…bottom line is the best high school football is played in G-W-I-N-N-E-T-T COUNTY. I’m sure you all know how to spell it. Year in and year out, there are multiple AAAAA teams that have to be reckoned with and Buford is a force.

I saw it on TV, of course it wasn’t a shut out but great defense just the same. Their defensive line did not do as well as some other defensive lines I have seen, but their defensive backs were very good. Yes it was obvious they made mistakes, especially with snapping the football.
Some of our fans were saying the same things when we lost to Lowndes.
They missed a holding call against Grayson, but missed a few unnecessary roughness calls against Lowndes till later when they threw a player out of the game. IMO if the officiating had been better it would have been in Grayson’s favor not Lowndes.

Jeff You’re right about home field and officials. I thought there was two calls in particular that hurt Northside against Camden last week, but the bottom line is WE LOST. Good teams have to overcome adversity, especially on the road. We didn’t do that last week and Camden deserved to win.

Blame the coach at Lowndes. His players are cheap thugs. During last years title game,the Lowndes defense would poke Mikey Tumburo, QB at North Gwinnett, in his eyes, while on the ground, and the Lowndes offensive line would have illegal cut blocks all night and ” tackle the defensive line. And the refs never called unsportsmanlike penalties. Glad they lost. Way to go, Rams!!

The Coffee County team deserved the butt whooping they got. Not only did they break in lockers and steal phones and such from Ridge basketball players, they also racked up at least 5 unsportsmanship penalties. Real classless. Buford is a fine AA team. recruits well but is not quite in same league as AAAAA gwinnett teams. Wish Buford would reclass to AAAAA and then we can talk.

I said it before Northside fans know this region 1AAAAA was over rated in the first place. Our Northside team 2008 would been beaten by 30 or 40 by Northside 2006 or 2007 yet we beat all the teams from 1AAAAA save for the mighty Vikings of Lowndes County. And we beat them pretty easily a late TD by Coffee County made the score look close but we had them most of the way. This Northside team did not have the power of the past I would say it was the weakest team we have had since 1996

Being a footnball, I had to watch the Grayson/Lowndes game on CSS. It was a good game by both teams but it was very disappointing to see the lack of sportsmanship by the Lowndes team. What was even more disappointing was it didn’t appear the head coach was doing very much to prevent the ugly scene which occurred at the end of the game from occurring. There is no place in sports especially high school sports for that type of behaviour. I will be the first to admit Lowndes is an excellent program but with excellent program you expect to see more class than was shown tonight. I am sure tonight wasn’t a good representation of the entire Lowndes program but it was very disappointing to watch especially after it was a good hard fought game on both sides.

I guess region 1AAAAA will now try to claim Camden County is one of theirs. If Lowndes was the best Georgia high school football had to offer, no wonder the best by far high school football is played in Texas and Florida. If my AAAAA brackets are correct there are TWO Gwinnett teams in the final four. Final two teams will be Grayson and Newnan, with Newnan taking the crown. Thank goodness we will not have to listen to south Georgia folks until next year when they start proclaiming how great they are again. And finally, a thanks to Lowndes for totally embarassing the entire state with losing your cool. What a lack of class.

Take away the 81 yard TD run by Reid and Lowndes only had about 100 yards total offense, two first downs. You can’t win big games with those kind of stats. Having seen Lowndes play, that lack of production on offense shocked me. I wasn’t impressed when I saw them play Warner Robins, but they have obviously improved significantly. GHSA should severely penalize the Lowndes County football program after the total lack of class they showed tonight. Grayson manhandled the all-universe Lowndes team with ease. If the score had indicated how Grayson dominated Lowndes it would have been like 80-7. Next time Lowndes please bring a team worthy of the hype.

Congrats to Grayson, Tucker, and the other North GA teams that beat the middle and south GA teams…but I doubt they’ll still give us any props. Also, I doubt that ANYONE will give any shouts for Marist. We’re a AA school that plays up two classes, DON’T recruit (don’t have to, parents will work two jobs if they have to so their kids can go there) and make the playoffs every year. Some people may not like us but you should at least admit we’ve got a heckuva system. Marist-Tucker in the Dome!

Woodstock, good game tonight. That #1 gave you guy’s a chance in the 1st half. Once he stop running, so went your offense. He must have gotten injured. Also why did your coach get so conservative? You guy’s should have went for the knockout. You had Camden on the ropes. Once you had the lead, you guy’s got too comfortable. I know you guy’s saw the Northside film from last week, when Camden scored twice in the fourth quarter to win. Championship teams know when to put their foot on an opponents throat to close out the game.

Jaybo and HSballfan…….Caught the Tucker/Westside game…..The forward pass is alive and well at Tucker ,they even threw a TD pass..LOL….I guess Stephens learned a lot from the semi-final vs Northside last season….Stephens played the perfect defense to counter Westside’s passing attack a ,3 man front with 4 or 5 in the second tier,giving up nothing in the middle and squashing Westside’s skinny post they thrive off of,they bought the free saftey over the top of Madison,he got a TD pass ,but he was pretty much a non factor during the game…Tucker did a great job of containing Mcfadden ,I don’t think he got out of the pocket all night….Hats off to the Tuckers Linebackers quick recognition , they played the pass and run great…..The offense looks the same ,other than the addition of a few pass plays ,I was expecting more JD davis ,but the kid #5 carried most of the load…Tucker made great plays when needed ,nothing spectacular……Jaybo and HSballfan this Tucker team actually looks better than their 2007 squad.

C’mon FATMAN! Let’s not go crazy. Those of us who have been in Gwinnett for a long time and watched our kids grow up in the GFL, have also watched family after family defect from their gwinnett town to Buford to (what I call) avoid the competition for playing time at the bigger school. You may not have to call it recruiting, but I’m calling it like it is. Do they have a great program…sure they do. It’s definitely not because the city of Buford produces great talent, though.

Reeze/Jaybo: Just got back from the game. I have to say I was expecting something a little more wonderful out of Westside, but Tucker came to play. The rest of the state is going to hate the Marist game, because it focused this team and allowed them to improve under the radar. The pass plays have been added gradually since Marist, a couple a week, and the defense has been terrific. Other than those two flukey long passes, Westside didn’t mount much of an offensive threat. By the way, Davis sprained his ankle before the game, which probably accounts for the number of carries Devon Scott was getting. But JD is a beast; I don’t think he knows what pain is. It was a very satisfying win for Tucker. Now we wait for the coin toss to see if Grffin comes to us. We WANT Marist in the dome. There’s a serious score to be settled.

There is nothing generically superior about South Georgia football, so please give it a rest. There is great talent and great coaching spread all around the state of Georgia. It’s a shame the score of the Tucker Westside game doesn’t really show Tucker’s dominace. Westside was whipped at the start of the 4th quarter. I would love to have seen Tucker score one more and put up 38. There would be a touch of irony in all the naye sayers because of the Tucker Marist score!

Back to the game for a minute. The Tucker defense was pretty much the same one they threw at Northside, but there are a few differences. Tucker’s secondary is better prepared this season… and frankly, McFadden is no Marques Ivory. I know Westside had a fine season, but McFadden didn’t impress me much. He was telegraphing his passes; it looked like he ONLY wanted to throw to Madison. When he was pressured he was never able to find a secondary receiver. Why did Westside never throw to their backs? Tucker at least threw in a handful of play action passes. No, McFadden was certainly not the best QB we’ve seen. That would definitely be Davis Hoyt of Brunswick. If the Pirates had any kind of defense, we might be headed back down to the coast for a rematch next week.

I am embarrassed on how our team represented our school tonite. I think they stepped on the field thinking they were going to win. Unfortunately, you have to stay focused and take one game at a time. We didn’t do this although credit PeachtreeRidge for doing their part. They are a fine team. Good luck in the semi’s. Also, totally shocked that Lowndes’s offense was shut down. Grayson did a great job and also let down by the antics of Lowndes Co. after the game. 1-AAAAA was not represented tonite with their play or their behavior in losing by both teams that were left in the playoffs.

Wow! What a great Peachtree Ridge Game!! The whole team did a great job! The Coffee fans I personally met were very nice. Some of the ones I didn’t meet were saying some not-so-nice things to us PRHS band parents in the Visitor’s Concession as they were leaving. Oh well. I guess I’d be pretty ticked too if I drove 5 hours to support a team that didn’t show up!
Several of the PRHS football parents were talking after the game while waiting for their kids and I thought I heard a few of them say something about cell phones and broken lockers. After reading the post about the lockers being broken into it now makes sense. I hope it’s not true, but if it is true I also hope that they figure out who did it.
I know that the Coffee players were frustrated toward the end of the night, but the personal fouls were totally blatant and really unnecessary. I give the Peachtree Ridge players a ton of credit because they kept their cool and didn’t get sucked in.
I guess later today we’ll find out where next week’s game is! Wherever it is I have one thing to say “Goooooo Lions!!!!”

What a horrible display of sportmanship. The entire night you let your thug players come over to the Grayson sideline, taunt, talk trash, and did not pull any of your players out the game. Then your team clears the benches and starts a brawl and punches one of our coaches. You all should be fined and fired for allowing that. You deserved to lose that game. And I was glad to see #10 on your team gets his d^%k knocked in the dirt by our OL, since he was one of the main instigators.
You got out coached, your team lacks discipline, and you have no control of your program. 17-7 Go Rams and tell your team of thugs to turn their pads in tomorrow, their season is over.

Reeze: I’m certainly willing to give McFadden the benefit of the doubt. And happily accept the kudos on behalf of the Tucker defense. One game is certainly not a comprehensive body of evidence, but based on what I’ve seen, I liked Hoyt’s maturity under pressure. I think I pointed out in a previous blog entry that it’s tough to predict how a team that had it way too easy all season long might react when faced with a challenge. Tucker smacked Westside in the helmet. McFadden and his friends did not answer the call. As I recall, Ivory and company did exactly the opposite, and that’s why the championship banner is hanging in Warner Robins.

Lowndes didn’t appear to be as much a great team, more of a good team with a great player. #24 gained almost all their yardage and had most of their tackles as well. The other back #9 also made a few tackles. The Lowndes Band was very impressive!
Graysons ability to put together 14 or 15 play drives helps their strong defense by keeping the opponents offense on the sidelines. Ean Pemberton is amazing!

Here’s the part I think I enjoyed the most: Chris Whitfield: Tucker is good, but I can almost see this game being a repeat of the Marist debacle earlier this year Yes, Chris, Tucker is on a mission to make you look as foolish as possible. * TO WACO FAN* We did lose in the 3rd round of the playoffs to a very good Flowery Branch team and our defense, even in this loss, still IS one of the best in the state. We did make it past week one of the playoffs, with an undefeated regular season, plus a 14-12 victory over YOUR team WITH A REGION CHAMPIONSHIP. We will be back next year, so when talking trash about other teams, first make sure you beat them, or at least your team is still playing and not losing two weeks before that team did. Lowndes = thugs, bad sports, cheap shot artists, trash talkers…the list could go on and on. I couldn’t believe it took the refs until late in the fourth quarter to throw out Number 4 (Solomon?), he was taking cheap shots at Grayson players all night, piling on late.
The Vikings should go home with their heads down—-not because they lost but because of their unbelievably bad behavior. The school my kids went to went 0-10 and I am much more proud of them than any realistic Lowndes parent should be right now of the Viking program.
You all need to do some soul searching in the next few weeks down in Lowndes County. You win with class, you lose with class…at least real winners do.
Huge congratulations to Grayson for a complete victory. Pemberton may be small in stature but he’s got a heart the size of a bus.

Home from the Tucker-Westside game. Westside fans, I have to say #6 on your squad is an absolute beast. Juked Jonathan Davis real bad in the 2nd qrtr at one point. However, have to give credit to us. I’ve never seen a #1 team totally dismantled before. Do not be fooled by the 31-20 score. Score was 31-12 for a while. Tucker might possibly be better than last year if they can come to play every game like tonight. To prove the potential, Westside’s quarterback Orrville McFadden had yet to be sacked ALL season which is an incredible stat. Tucker sacked his three times and got constant pressure on him. Another positive for Tucker: QB Chris Beck can throw my friends. Has thrown well all year when given the opportunity. Even though the Wing-T offense is designed for running, Tucker has a better chance of winning when Chris throws the ball on several occasions throughout the game. Griffin fans, hope it’s a good game next friday! Don’t think we are looking ahead to Marist, you are in our sights.

Carver and Lagrange came through. Gainesville has a fabulous team returning next year and will be preseason favorite. Now Cairo gets rematch without Jarvis Jones and Furr/Fortson. Cairo will be favored. Lagrange got better every week and played through a lot of adversity.As to all the “Upsets” thats why they play the games!

It is a DISGRACE that referrees officiating an already tough competitive match (Lowndes/Grayson) resort to BLATANTLY CHEAT the ball several feet to help Grayson play after play, never calling a single flag against them the entire game, and psychologically upsetting the Lowndes team. To anyone who is a football fan, no matter what side they choose to cheer for, this is travesty and poor sportsmanship that destroys the game.

I am so tired of every year region 1-AAAAA saying they are the best region. This is the biggest crock of bull i have ever heard. There are REAL teams in every region in georgia. Lowndes was definitely overrated. To be honest if this game was played in Lowndes they would have beat grayson but only because they cheat at home.

A Eagle, what you say about families “defecting” from their home schools to play for Buford rings true. The class of 09 that played GFL ball for CHAA went to the championship game every year from the time they were in first grade to eighth. When it was time to play high school football, they scattered, some to Buford, some to other schools. It has made me wonder over the years how CHHS might have fared if they stayed, especially when I hear some of the names that are big playmakers for the other schools.
As far as Lowndes….I was dumbfounded by the lack of sportsmanship I witnessed! After each play, you could see some Lowndes player jawing at a Grayson player. Then the punches, many missed by officials, but caught by the broadcasting crew of CSS. Finally, when Lowndes cleared their bench and started heading towards Grayson’s…..unbelievable.
Apparently, Lowndes doesn’t know how to lose gracefully. Losing isn’t fun, of course, but now they look like a bunch of thugs and ruffians.
Way to go, Grayson!!!! Good luck against PRHS!

I will be the first to admit that Camden did not deserve to win that game last night. They played sloppy and looked as if they had no focus. The only thing I say that is positive is besides last week they had not been down all year and now two weeks in a row they fell behind only to come back and win. That is something that a good team needs to have. No panic!! If the Wildcats go on to win state, this will be the game we look back on and say we got away with one there!! When does the coin flip happen and how can I find out the results?

I SAID AT THE START OF THE YEAR THAT REGION 1 AAAAA WAS VASTLY OVERRATED, NO ONE HAS DONE NOTHING IN THAT REGION OUTSIDE OF LOWNDES. I STILL THOUGHT LOWNDES WOULD WIN THAT GAME EASILY. GO WILDCATS. I agree with camdenwildcat! Greg Baker’s second half presence and performance with the bad ankle did seem to inspire the Cats and wake them up. I hope he is better next week. Although #15 was doing a good job also!

Greg Reid 81 yard run for a TD 7-0 Ran away from the strong side to get it. Great run though. Greg Ried almost pull off another when coming from behind Linebacker Chess Whitesides catches Ried and stops the TD. Followed by a bad snap that backed them up to the 50 were #16 took care of Greg Reid on every Play until the ball was turned back over to Grayson

Grayson stays ahead as their Defense completely shuts them down in the second half
Grayson scores again, secures the win
72 of Lowndes continues play after play throwing punches at our players, and pulled off by the refs with NO flags. 4 the sameLowndes never taught how to lose so their players start brawl as the Grayson coaches pull their players away from the trouble.
Grayson wins, they deserved it. Our Defense was everything I and several other tried to say they were. Lowndes knows this now. Funny as I was walking in and looking at the Lowndes players outside the field house preparing for the game, they did look a little smaller then our team. That is were our offensive line took care of business. They opened the hole right up the middle all night long, there was no answer for that, we took away the speed issue by staying there. Why coudnt some other teams have capitalized on that this year, I do not know. The out come was a win from our Defense, they stopped Greg Reid, Franklin and Demps. #16 Greg Zellner defiantly got his share of the pie. The kid is amazing, deserves the game ball!

Now you know what a D-1 linbacker looks like. Said it all along. The question, is Greg Reid really ready for an entire team of #16’s? Dont be disappointed when your Reid goes to Florida next year, and its takes a few years to actually see him on the field playing. This was a huge reality check for your team, I do think your program will see, there is other talent out there and Football is not all about south Georgia teams.

GIVE IT A REST…At least ADMIT what was going on during the game…Remember the game was TELEVISED so we all got to see REPLAYS!!!
FIRST…YOU GOT BEAT!…GRAYSON WON!!!
They beat you like they have done ALL YEAR…they controlled the ball and kept the LOWNDES offense off the field and on the sideline. They beat EAST the same way last week, with drives that eat up 8, 9, 10+ minutes of the clock!!!
Sure the weather was bad, but it was on BOTH SIDES of the field. Nothing you can say justifies how your team was acting FROM THE START. Very early in the game a ref chased down REID after he made a good play because he was runing down the GRAYSON sidelines TAUNTING them!!!
Your “D” was piling on and making late hits FROM THE START…again T.V. game so everyone got to see this happening…
Then as the reality settled in that you were going to lose your players REALLY started to get out of control. More late, cheap shots, several “D” players taking swings at GRAUSON players, then finally having a ref call it, then having to toss the player when he got in the REF’S face!!!
QUESTION…If this Lowndes team is supposed to represent the State of Georgia as the “Cream of our State’s Football” where were the Lowndes coach’s when this was going on and why didn’t (or can’t) they control their team????? Even after the Lowndes team CHARGED the field near the end the Coach was standing there with a SMIRK on his face…!
All we been hearing on this blog for weeks now is how South Georgia rules Georgia football, well this was the first time I saw Lowndes play and frankly from their actions last night…we don’t need them representing Georgia football to the rest of the country…

Good season Coffee; hold your heads up. Out of the teams from 1AAAAA you guys had the toughest climb. 1st round against a tough Stephenson team. Then a decent team in Chapel Hill 2nd round. 3rd round a strong possible State contender Peachtree Ridge. Lowndes earned the easy road until last night.

GraysonFan2, why are worried about Camden County, you still have one more game to go as well as we do, focuse on your next game and wait until next week to focus on the Wildcats. Because the Wildcats are not worried about Grayson we’re focused on Newnan. But yes we are the same team that played you guys last year, oh yes beat you guys soundly last year. Act like you have been here before. Plenty of backs at Camden to run the ball, yes Baker is a great back, and our best threat, but Johnson #15 Days #32 #8 # 6 #18 and #23 are all very good backs that could start at any school. See how the rest of our backs step up with Bakers injury. Johnson 22 carries 136 yards. Days 12 carries 64 yards. And two very good recievers in #5 Smith committed to South Carolina and # 11 green Not a one man team in no sense of the word. And Baker did come in to play and had two great runs that seem to inspire the team.

I am really looking forward to watching the recording of the game last night… I was told by a couple of people who watched the game, that it was really a terrible display of bad sportsmanship the entire game by Lowndes!! The cameras dont lie… Its a shame that a team with the talent that Lowndes has would stoop so low as to take cheap shots at players and talk trash the entire game!! And then to clear the bench because your losing a football game??

It appears that every team that has ever lost to Lowndes will probably get their diggs in on this blog, that’s alright. You know there is only one place to go when you are on top for so long. It happened last night and congratulations to Grayson for being the better team. As I said, when people put you on a pedestal your are destined for a fall eventually. It has to be hard for the kids to have such high expectations and then feel like they failed Lowndes County and Valdosta. I would like to have seen them carry the loss a little better, but I know how emotional football is. Do not judge these young men for a few minutes of emotional behavior. The winning was great, but the losing will teach life lessons. Again, congratulations to Grayson. Congratulations to the Vikings for everything they have accomplished in the past and in the future.

GO GRAYSON! We were counted as the underdogs in this game, but we showed Lowndes exactly what they were messing with. It’s the year of the Ram, who else could be expected to win? =)
Okay. Lowndes, you are a good team, despite that horrible lack of sportsmanship at the end. I was in the stands waiting to see you coach yell some sense into them, but that never happened. I was pretty surprised at that fact—why didn’t your coach enforce self-discipline within his team?
Anyway, good game. I know you’ll make the playoffs next year, despite losing your quarterback. Hope you had a good ride home.

Not worried in the least about Camden. Just checking out what happened in the other games. I along with so many others expected you guys to put a whippin on a 4th seed team. last I remember, Lowndes was the number one team to beat. Believe me, we know how good the Ptree RIdge defense is, should be a great match up. but Im assuming Grayson will be favored to win as they lost to Lowndes and we beat Ptree ;last year. Not really big on who’s favored any more, lol.
I picked these two teams to be there next week, I even invited Brookwood mom since she was out of town this week.

Columbia Blue, It is already final. Newnan complied with the seating for the game last night with NG. The seats are in place to hold 6000+. They had to have them in place to be inspected by GHSA before last nights game and Newnan is good to go. Welcome to the Cougar Den!!!

I am concerned about the seating in Newnans stadium because Camden travels well. When we played Hoover we brought more fans than the home team. Camden Mom don’t worry about Newnan’s stadium because we’ve hosted championship games in the past. Had about 10,000 fans in ‘81 when played Warner Robins for the title. You may have to stand if yall travel as well as you say. We have a nice town so enjoy yourself ..

They were not just thrown up meaning the bleachers. If you read the GHSA rules they were professionally installed and are very nice. I hope you guys do bring a crowd, NG had maybe 75 fans last night. Oh and if you don’t like the seating stay home, don’t know what else to tell you. Fair is fair we won the toss you have to travel. And the stadium is larger than you think. Call some Lowndes fans so you can find out how sad and dreadful the drive home was because you will suffer the same feat. But I do hear you guys have more class so thats a plus. See ya friday. If you had 10,000 fans in 1981 why haven’t you expanded your stadium? Thats been 20+ years ago and highschool football has come a long way since then. You said that NG only brought about 75 fans. How can the GHSA say that you are prepared for a large crowd if that is all that they brought? When you say that you are prepared for 6000+ fans does that mean 6500 maybe 7000? Since you are the home team I would think that you would have at least that many or more. We do when we are at home. I don’t mind the traveling but I am concerned about safety. Also, I have been to Newman and it is a nice town.

hehe All the Newnan fans are starting to sound like they are from Lowndes. Maybe we should make other plans for next weekend since we dont have a chance in this game. Wow just wow what and arrogant bunch. Win or lose Ill be very proud of the boys in blue. Maybe just maybe you guys will be the ones suprised.
As far as how many people show up, all depends on how many tickets we get. We will sell them all dont worry about that.

Talk trash? That was simply just confidence. I am not downing Camden nor will I. I know they are darn good and I respect them 100%. And there were plenty of Camden fans on this past week talking a lot of trash. I enjoy fans being proud of their team and some good natured trash talking its just part of the game. I look forward to a VERY good game and hope you guys have a safe travel. As far as safety you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Newnan is well coached and they win and lose with class, you won’t see any poor sportsmanship from them. Our fans are great and it is a very nice neighborhood. Ask the NG fans, as they are a very classy group as well. Can’t wait till friday it will be on heck of a game.

WACO FAN, Appreciate the kudos to LG. Have no idea what will happen to the Grangers next. They have already exceeded my expectations since losing so much at mid season. But, I will say that this group of LaGrange players may quite well be the most determined I have ever seen. As you may be aware we lost yet another key player last night in RB Ocie Salter, who was replaced by CB Darrin Hairston who played the game of his life on both sides of the ball. 2008 may also be the finest coaching job by the Granger staff that I have ever seen.

Newnan Cougar Fans, Congrats on a HUGE win.While those “non-Cougar” fans may have at times given some credit to the Cougars high powered offense, hardly anyone has taken notice of the Cougar defense who I believe is not only the best in the state in 2008, but among the greatest ever. Even on a wet field, the Cougar defense once again defied the odds. Only 2 more to go, Cougars. I think I speak for the vast majority of LaGrange fans in wishing you the very best along with the belief that 2008 is THE year to bring home the cup that should have landed in Newnan years ago.

NEWNAN COUGARS are proud. So are the Bulldogs I’m sure. Not much in the visiting stands this year as far as fans are concerned. Most teams say we will bring 6,000+ plus fans and NO one shows up. NEWNAN has a beautiful stadium and plenty of parking and stands for the visitors. Come early and enjoy our beautiful downtown square about 1.5 miles north of the High School. We welcome you until game time. Then it’s football.

So much to cover. First , slalom1 you are correct , this defense could be one of the greatest ever. We hope to see LaGrange and Griffin at the dome so we can talk about the good ole days. Camden mom ,you don’t have to worry about your safety as we respect our visitors and want to make them feel at home. We are NEWNAN with a n. Don’t know why we haven’t expanded more but it is bigger than ‘81. Purnisher you are right. This team is much better than ‘81 on all levels. We don’t talk trash but you can’t control everybody. N.G. brought a lot more than 75 people as I was sitting on their side. A decent crowd considering the weather.

just watched the lowndes loser’s video from last night…. i knew they were cheating all night and taking cheap shot’s but that was ridiculous…. what a bunch of loser trash they are, the coaching was terrible and the players are a mirror image of POOR LEADERSHIP… the fans trashed the stands and complained the whole way out… when all was said and done they enjoyed a LONG LONELY RIDE HOME… cheaters never win and winners never cheat… now take those punks and get your azz outta here……

To Newman Fans: We know what it feels like to always get critized about a weak schedule. That is all we hear during our regular because we play alot of Savannah teams. It seems that others complain about us running up the score but how can you tell your freshman and sophmores not to score. Isn’t that what the game is all about. But it looks like two of the teams that seem to have such a weak schedule are in the semis. Umm, What to all of the critics have to say about that?

Camden fans ,you need to stop dreaming. There’s no way you’ll outnumber the Newnan fans. You’ll get the additional seating and all the standing room you need. We are as passionate about our team as you are. We believe your first title should’ve been ours as we led you at halftime in a year where you dominated. You will see a Newnan team that can play any kind of football you want. A no huddle spread offense and a defense better than your ‘03 championship defense. If you don’t play better Friday ,it could get ugly.

I remember the ‘03 Newnan Camden game VERY well. Newnan had a good team but they lacked a strong running game and the D was decent. This year they are completely solid. 31 total points allowed in 13 games is best in the state all time all classifications. And there is no doubt Camden is great as well. I believe this will be an instant classic. Can hardly wait. And as far as crowds Newnan will have 6000 strong so get there early if u want a seat.

I am certain you guys have an excellent football team. The only problem I have with your post is the statement you made cocerning the Wildcats 2003 defense. Your defense may be better than ours in 2003 but guess what, they have a ring. Good luck Friday night. You know as well as I do, if you do not play your best in the playoffs it can get ugly quick. I think a big key to the game will be mistakes. We cannot afford to make mistakes because you guys are good. The COLUMBIA BLUE man will do nothing to discredit your team. Newnan is a very good team.

Thanks’ You are right about one thing, if we do not play better vs Newnan it will be a long night. Not making any excuses (because Woodstock played a great game)I think the Northside game took a lot out of the kids. The Northside game was very draining for our players. Northside had a great defense. I am certain Newnan has a great defense as well. Hopefully we can regroup and play a much better game next Friday. Good luck sanity

They were not just thrown up meaning the bleachers. If you read the GHSA rules they were professionally installed and are very nice. I hope you guys do bring a crowd, NG had maybe 75 fans last night. Oh and if you don’t like the seating stay home, don’t know what else to tell you. Fair is fair we won the toss you have to travel. And the stadium is larger than you think. Call some Lowndes fans so you can find out how sad and dreadful the drive home was because you will suffer the same feat. But I do hear you guys have more class so thats a plus. See ya friday. P-ridge are you ready for #16 and the grayson D. Because lowndes said they were and we all know how that turned out. And with the un-believable performance from the grayson offense to put up 17 points on the “all-mighty lowndes D”HAHA. I know it will be a great game, cause its play-off football, can’t count know team out, until they actually lose. Hope your team is a little more well rounded then just one player, cause thats all lowndes seem to use. Reid is a good player, but like someone stated earlier he was owned by #16 from grayson. his only big yard plays were to the opposite side. before the game blogs were saying how he would run #16 over, i remember seeing 16 meet him head on and push him pack for a loss and still drive him back further. Now # 16 is a true D1 player, or will be soon. Good luck to you grayson and #16 hope you guys make it to state and win. Camden County was not all that..Woodstock played them great. I even spoke with a Camden teacher and he stated “that the Wildcats had no competition this year and games were over at halftime” No wonder they make it to the playoffs ever year. If they played up here in region 5, they would at best be a average team.

First of all, I would like to congratulate the Grayson Rams on their win Friday night. You played the better game! Everyone at the stadium was really nice! Congratulations!! Lowndes is a great TEAM…I hate you didn’t get to see it Friday night!
TO ALL BLOGGERS: if you have come on here and talked smack about a coach, player, team, or fellow blogger…you must qualify yourself in the same category you put the lowndes players in Friday night. Smack talk and name calling is nothing more than cheap shots and punches thrown. You will say it’s all in fun on the blog- the picture painted looks the same!
I was at the game and watched the game courtesy of DVR. Both teams are guilty of talking smack and taunting each other! Grayson players showed frustration as well! What the TV did not show you were the Grayson players doing the gator chomp at Lowndes players or the disrespect they showed to the Lowndes players that were trying to board the buses home. Was any of it right…NO! Should both be ashamed…YES! I’m sure those of you on here calling TEENAGE boys “thugs” have never made a bad choice in your life and have never done anything you were ashamed of out of frustration!

Observation on 4AAAA: It would appear that Tucker coaching took a few painful lessons to heart, used their heads, and figured out how to build a more “complete team” with their kids. ALL aspects of the game have had serious attention paid toward improvement, and the game with Westside highlighted the strategy…For example, a few days earlier, some one posted that Westside was the “complete team”, but it certainly appeared Friday night that the coaching did not expect kicking to be important! Not that THIS score came down to kicking, BUT there’s certainly a confidence boost knowing that points can come from every special team! Now for the Tigers, tough game coming Friday night with the Griffin Bears, who managed to best SWD’s awesome defense with the same score Tucker did in the regular season, with the ability to kick a field goal the difference for both scores…Another observation, re Marist vs Mount Zion: Has anyone else noticed that despite the AJC’s glowing report on Marist’s dominance, it was failed kicking that made the score 34-33 instead of 35-34 MOUNT ZION??? A painful lesson for MZ, and one I bet the coaches work on correcting over the summer! Good luck to ALL of the kids next week!

Politics of football: When you have coached a high school football team and won as many times as the vikings have….then talk smack. Our team is very well coached…ask any coach in the state of Georgia! He has won MANY coach of the year awards! What award did you win for coaching?
I did not say our team played like the Vikings I have known and watched for many years!! Maybe you should watch the tapes from ESPN or CBS Sports also. Then, you will see Friday night was very out of character for our team.
They should have handled themselves much better, not doubting that. Just saying smack was from boths sides..not one sided as many of you say. Seriously doubting your players have played “Nice” all year!

I believe the 4 teams left are the 4 best but there can only be 1 champion. Here is how I see it. Peachtree Ridge will win a tough battle because Grayson will not be able to run the ball and eat up the clock like they did against Lowndes. I think the Ridge has the better defense. It is also gonna be tough for the Rams because their championship was in beating Lowndes. Newnan will beat Camden because of their defense and home field advantage. The Championship game will have the top 2 defensive teams in the state with my prediction coming after the semis. Good luck and good football.

Wolverine Fan: No Camden was not all that on Friday Night that was probably the worst I have seen them play this year. If the true Cats had shown up in the beginning of the game the score would have been a lot worse. Yes you did play us very well. But remember the Cats came to play ball in the second half. Looking forward to blogging with a team that doesn’t think they have the only D-1 players, think they are the only ones that can coach a team, think they are the only ones that have speed, etc. Now, as for your prediction, what do you base Ptree Ridge beating Grayson on? Seriously just wondering beside the love of your team you obviously have. Im basing my win for Grayson based on the points allowed by defense vs. Lowndes. You have #7 big strong LB, we have # 16 also big strong LB. We have improved 100% sense the dome game vs. Mcechearn, Im sure you have too. This should be a great game defensively, a very low scoring game. If our defensive players are equal, then I would say the game will go to the better Offensive line. DO you agree?
Tell us about #7, how strong is he (bench, squat, etc). How fast is he (what does he run the 40 in)? Im sure our coaches at Grayson will know these things, im just a spectator wanting something to compair to.

on fri you can watch a live web cast of whatever game they featuring that night or at any time after go and see the game they had featured on gpb.org/football/watch…..i watch the newman game and they defense looked str8 but not a killer defense i saw north gwinnett move the ball sometime with easy they just couldnt never finish the drives off….

I the state of Georgia, you are eligible to to play first semester sports based on their grades from the last semester of the previous year. SO if there are some kids failing right now, they will not be able to play second semester sports., I does not effect what they are doing right now unless the coach elects to keep them out. Im sure some of these boys have so much on them that their grades may be suffering, but Im also sure they will recover.

Camden County was not all that..Woodstock played them great. I even spoke with a Camden teacher and he stated “that the Wildcats had no competition this year and games were over at halftime” No wonder they make it to the playoffs ever year. If they played up here in region 5, they would at best be a average team.
I agree. And if Region 5 teams didn’t beat each other up so much then one of us would win the playoffs.

And as far as academics, most of our team made the honor roll. You should have come inside the school and you would have seem a wall full of pictures of the honor roll student on the football team. to Big Fan of 4A : I certainly agree with you on your most informative post. I will also say region 4AAAA gets very little recognition at all. I thank you for your recognition of our team and feel that Griffin has a very storied history of playoff appearances throughout the years. GRIFFIN BEAR TRADITION goes WAY back. Of course I hope THE MIGHTY GRIFFIN BEARS pull out another win, but agree it is going to be a hard fought tough game against the Tucker Tigers who are A really impressive team with an overall package of speed, game planning and special teams. Wolverine fan, you guys played a great game and had a very good game plan. I expect to see your team in the playoffs again next year with your coaching skill. I’m glad you had a safe trip down & our fans were cordial to you. As far as our schedule, it is what it is. We traveled to the dome (6 hours) to play Norcross, then to Birmingham, AL (8 hours) to play Hoover (playing in Alabama state champ game this coming Friday), and hosted Columbia County from Florida. Some of our region games are blowouts against 3A-sized schools that play up to 5A. We may or may not beat Newnan, but I’ll be there to cheer for the Wildcats.

Your team did a great job Friday night.What a great bunch of kids, coaches and fans. WOLVERINE DOES YOUR COACH DETERMINE THE REGION IN WHICH YOU PLAY? I really do wish people would forget about regions. WE HAVE NO CONTROL ON WHAT REGION WE ARE ASSIGNED. However, I do know that we are a final four team. Your region may be better than ours; however, we would love to play some of your teams. Your team played great Friday night and I know they had a lot to do with us playing subpar. Often it is hard to get up for a game when you had a really emotional game the week before. No excuses, we know that we will have to play a lot better against Newnan. Maybe we can play like we did against Norhside and Hoover.Once again, great game Friday night, you guys showed what a classy football team is all about. I was very impressed with your players, fans and coaches. Good luck in the future.

We also had some key players out with injurys.we have gotten wayyy better since then. and everyone will agree with me on that. ppl are saying region 7 AAAAA is way harder than region 8 AAAAA. and its not only # 7 on defense. its # 21, #57,#51(who is a sophmore and leads the team with tackles),# 4,#6. and #40 and # 32. # 21 our wide reciever is a double threat he goes up for the tough catches on offense and come down with the interception on defense he is very tall and its hard to try and cover him. # 32 and # 2 our runningbacks are very hard runners. #32 is known for running over would be tacklers and # 2 is known for just running plain fast.# 10 one of our other wide reciever is also very good. as you can tell we are not a one man team we get everyone involved in the game. im just saying its gonna be hard for yall to come to our field and beat us in the loud environment of our home crowd. after all right now Our Defense and OFFense is on fire. And yall can try to run the ball on us with Ean Pemberton but he will be stopped. Just like we stopped all the other key running backs.

You are right, we did not play very good against Woodstock. Their defense was very good and they had a great game plan. I tip my hat to the Woodstock players, fans, and coaches. As far as Camden winning future games, who knows what will happen. All I can say is we will show class, play hard, and be prepared. As you can see, those that have been there, done that and won a State Championship do not talk negative to anyone. Negative talk has nothing to do with the outcome of a game. I wish all the luck to Newnan. And yes footballer, we beat Grayson to go to the final four last year. We lost to Lowndes in the dome 10-0 and Lowndes scored thirty or more points on all other teams in the play-offs.Camden has been in the final four five of the last seven years with one State Championship. Those are the facts but I recon I have no validity in making a point concerning the team I love a pull for. Let me know the facts concerning your team. I would love to hear about it. Good luck. I think it is ridiculous some of the things that are being said in this blog. Football or anysport for that matter is NOT about who gets home field advantage, who wins the coin toss are what kind of sched. the team has in regular season. It is about these high school students(remember they are 16 and 17 years old) and how well they play on the given night. They work hard to be out there on that field and I don’t think they deserve to be “blogged” about like this. Sure we want the game to be fair and everyone should show pride as well as class in their school, but sometimes thats not the way it goes. Thats how we make mistakes and learn. Congrats to every team out there that has made it this far!

The reason Valdosta and Lowndes county have been so dominant in Georgia football is because when the kids are coming up in youth football, the coaches identify the best players, then talk to the parents about failing them in 7th or 8th grade. They sell this to the parents by telling them that they will be great football players, and be a year older and more mature than the other high school players, and will be offered college scholarships. If we can get someone from Lowndes or Valdosta to post the ages of the seniors on their team, I think this will be proven. My uncle, who played football for Valdosta in the 60’s verified that he knew of at least 3 players where this occured. True or not, it seems to be a possible reason for all those state champs.
