AJC Football Rankings: Union Grove in for first time ever; Mays falls out

Who would you rank in Class AAAAA after East Paulding, the former No. 10, lost to Harrison?
I considered four teams, including East Paulding. The others were Peachtree Ridge, Norcross and Union Grove. The dart hit UG. Maybe we’ll find out if UG - ranked for the first time ever - is worthy this week vs. Stephenson. …
In AAAA, Mays dropped out of the Top 10 from No. 2. Banneker is not a bad loss, but there’s so little to separate No. 6 from No. 15 in this class that one defeat can spark a free-fall. I couldn’t get past the fact that Mays lost to an unranked team, and that team (Banneker) was blown out by Villa Rica. And Villa Rica was handled by a AA school, Pepperell. My ranked teams have no losses, or they’ve lost to other ranked or bigger schools. So Tucker, despite the 38-0 thing, is back in the rankings after beating Chamblee, which helps atone form the shocking margin of defeat vs. Marist.
No big changes in AAA, AA or A.
Another question: Who are the biggest surprises and disappointments this season?
For me, the top surprise is Appling County. Others: Union Grove, Gainesville, Sequoyah, WaCo, Callaway, SWD, East Paulding.
Biggest disappointment? That’s easy: Ware County. Others: MLK, Perry, Charlton County, maybe Thomasville. Also Shaw and Valdosta.
