Extra Point: Tough economy spells tough times for high school sports
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Reason No. 834 Why You Shouldn’t Look Past Our Metro Section: All politics is local.
This story about likely state budget cuts got us doing a double-take when we read this:
“[Georgia lawmakers have] put a hold on doling out politically popular community grants for things like high school football uniforms…”
Not exactly thrilling news for some schools, we’re guessing.
Put in your two cents (if you can spare it): How’s your school handling the current economic climate. Cutting back? Managing to hang in there, thanks to private funds from a booster club, bake sales and the like? And what about you? Are you spending as much on high school sports as you have been? Will you likely cut back on your own prep sports-related expenses? Any ideas on how teams and fans can save cash at the games? Share your thoughts.

WHY NOT LEARN TO LIVE ON WHAT THEY (LEGISLATORS ) MAKE AND QUIT GIVING THEMSELVES RAISES WHEN THEY WONT LEGISLATE 1 FOR TEACHERS, SCHOOLS,,EMERGENCY PERSONNEL? BUT THEN AGAIN,,,WHAT DO US “ORDINARY CITIZENS” KNOW ?

It’s coming. Uniforms today, tomorrow: the marching band only plays home games due to fuel and bus usage. 89viking is right. The government should be made to start within.

Todd, I just read your article on Fees, then football. I would like to see you look in to the EXTRA benefits coaches get through Nike or other sports apparel deals and still charge athletes for uniforms and make them purchase only that companys equipment to benefit themselves. Start with North Gwinnett High School. Also look in to their pay to play cost that is up to $1,400.00.
