AJC Football Rankings: Walton, Harrison win barely, drop barely

There’s some reshuffling in Class AAAAA this week, despite no upsets.

Down go Walton and Harrison.

Up go Northside and North Gwinnett.

That’s after Walton beat Milton 24-20 and Harrison beat Woodstock 17-15. I realize Milton and Woodstock are pretty good, but I also realize the only losses for Northside and North Gwinnett are against teams contending for national titles (Lowndes and Byrnes, S.C.). If Harrison and especially Walton are going to play weaker schedules, they need to win these games by more than a touchdown.

Furthermore, if East Paulding were to upset Harrison, I need an excuse to keep East down. Jest kiddin’. I wonder if anybody will want discuss that game here.

In other news, Southwest DeKalb is in, and Chamblee is out in Class AAAA. Waiting to see if Tucker isn’t better than both.

In Class AAA, WaCo’s up; Dunwoody’s down; Thomson’s out. Peach County’s in despite losing. Jackson is snubbed despite winning. Not a lot of convincing teams to choose from.

In Class AA, there are lots of good contenders for the Top 10, and I picked undefeated McIntosh County Academy to replace JeffCo this week over Blessed Trinity, Dublin and unbeaten Jefferson. After Buford and Fitz, that’s the toughest class to rank.

Class A stayed the same. Big game this week is ECI vs. Johnson County as Washaun Ealey seeks to break Matt Dunham’s state record of 111 career touchdowns. Ealey has 110.

Todd talks back: Holcomb mixes it up with you all week long. Catch his running commentary in Poll Talk Monday-Friday. Leave comments, questions, etc., here and return to talk about this week’s rankings.
