State Report: Football Hot/Not returns to the great Northwest

Last week, Hot/Not took its traveling caravan to the northwest corner of the state. But it is such beautiful country that we needed two weeks to cover it all. After taking a look at the Class AAAAA and AAAA teams in the area last week, it is now time to check in on the Class AAA, AA and A teams.

Hot

Pepperell: The Dragons haven’t been challenged this season, rolling past Class AAAA and AAA competition early before outscoring Region 7-AA foes Gordon Central and Armuchee 76-22 in the last two weeks. No. 5 Pepperell should roll through the regular season, with Rockmart posing the most serious threat until the region playoff game.

Sonoraville: Who? The Phoenix are in their third season of existence and have a 5-0 record after going 1-9 last year. Coach Chuck King’s team has won close and won big this season, but their opponents haven’t exactly been the cream of the crop. Winless Dade County is up this week, but could Sonoraville actually go into its battle with Calhoun as the favorite?

Lafayette: A 4-2 record might not sound like a very hot team to you, but it is pretty strong when you look at the Ramblers’ history. The school has had just one winning season in the last 15 years and hasn’t made the playoffs since 1993, when a much younger Rayvan Teague was at the helm. Lafayette could very well be the top seed in the crossover games in Region 6-AAA.

Bremen: The Blue Devils are 4-1 this season and have played in at least 12 games every season since 2003.

Not

Southeast Whitfield: The Raiders are giving up an average of 37 points per game.

Temple: After winning 32-9 against Hebron Christian in the season-opener, the Tigers have been outscored 172-21 in their last four games.

You report. We reply. Send us YOUR reports from around the state on the football season. Who’s hot? Who’s not? Bring it.
