OT - Thanks, as always, for checking in with the Thursday scores.
Bob - Wish we were there instead of here, working. But oh well… Keep us updated on the big Campbell-Roswell game, will you? We’re interested to see how Roswell rebounds from last week’s loss to Kell.

To all you fans out there, here are the real photo areas of need for us here at AJC.com:
City of Atlanta / South Fulton schools (i.e., Therrell, S. Atlanta, Jackson-Atl. (Southside), SACA, Tri-Cities, N. Atlanta, Banneker, Grady…)
Clayton / Henry schools (i.e., Dutchtown, Luella, Morrow, Jonesboro, Forest Park, Ola…)
Cobb schools (i.e., Allatoona, Hillgrove, Osborne, Pebblebrook, Pope…)
DeKalb schools (i.e., Clarkston, Cross Keys, Columbia, Dunwoody, Lakeside, Lithonia, Towers…)
Fayette schools (i.e., Fayette Co., McIntosh, Sandy Creek…)
We’re most in need of photos from the 5:30 weekly “early” games at Lakewood Stadium and the City/S. Fulton and Clayton/Henry teams. We’d like to see what YOUR team is doing on the field, no matter the W-L record. Thanks.

Well, AJC, looks like another one of your upset predictions fell through. Imagine, someone picking Creekside to beat Newnan. tsk, tsk, tsk … unless you call Newnan winning ‘only’ by the score of 33-0 an upset. At least you have a couple of weeks to contemplate that error in judgement. hmmm … whom shall you pick next time? Riverdale over Newnan?! Please do! We enjoy the funny pages, too!

I love it when a plan comes together. NHS keeping tradition alive…embarrassing HoCo 31-0. Let’s maintain our new tradition and BEAT THE VIKINGS!!!
All that talk about Valdosta being better than 28-14 against NHS…and they lost to WR…AT HOME 7-6…what a shame! Maybe NHS isn’t that good…but it certainly isn’t because Valdosta is so great!
Showdown in the South…we billed it and we got it…undefeated teams meet in Valdosta…

I agree weak showing against Berkmar. Rams have several defenders with casts on their hands, they should be off by next week. couple of knee injuries almost healed too. the green jerseys were made last year for special occasions. i agree, i like the green better. also the Grayson fans have got to get some volume going. ive never seen such laded back bunch people in my life! those defensive players came alive when the fans started screaming and pounding the stands at the 8 min mark of the fourth quarter. the boys were literally standing on the field raising their arms trying to bring their family and friends alive. This has got to get better before Brookwood visits. Parkview played a great game, and the power should be back next week for Graysons defense. wish Brookwood was playing Parkview next week to see how we stand in week six against Brookwood. Todd, any predictions on that?

Another one? I am 1-1 on upset specials of the week, but I’ll take my whipping like a man. I’ll say it here first, Newnan is legit and that defense is just outstanding.
Eagle08, Creekside isn’t in Cherokee County. Creekview is. And I don’t think that either EP or Etowah will be ranked next week, or did someone in the top 10 lose to make room for you to get in? (I haven’t looked at all of the state scores yet because I have been too busy eating Newnan’s crow!

To the Eagle yahoo,
EP is too skilled for Etowah. EP’s one weakness is the OL where they are small up front. Etowah cannot match up with EP’s skill players, they are everywhere and one of their main weapons barely played tonight because of an injury so he can rest up for next week. Jahron Brown, Idris Anderson and Ed Cazenave form one of the better sets of skilled position players in the state on one team, not to mention Hasan who carved up Marietta tonight. All 3 D1 prospects, Brown is a load at RB at 6’ 230, Anderson is the scat back who runs a legit 4.4, Cazenave is getting looked at by SEC schools 6’3” WR with loads of speed. Then you will see the headhunter back there on D, Zack Gonosz (first team all state last year as a JR) will light anyone up who comes across the middle.
EP explodes next week.

LOWNDES and TIFT game, what a battle that was Tift co. looks real good The VIKINGS got out of their a live 28 to 14. Greg reed runs a 99 yard back and starts sowing off at the 1 yard line and gets hit they get up and have some pushing going on and every one storms the field the law is everywhere flags were thron on both teams it was a touchdown for the VIKINGS. TIFT CO. has a real good team and will compete with anyone. Cant wait till next week. GO…..VIKINGS…..GO

Walton 42-14 over Alpharetta as Michael Boydston has his 2nd 300yd game of the season. He is already over 1,000 for the season through 5 games to go along with 14 TD’s. Whenever I post anything about Walton or Boydston I also have to mention the o-line and the FB. He couldn’t put up those record numbers without them. Next week is a showdown between Boydston and Milton RB Toney Williams who has signed with Tennessee. I predict a Walton win and that Boydston has the bigger game.

Reid took one 98 yards to ice the game. At the end of the run there were some tempers flying but it never got out of hand. Tift brought a good game our way tonight. The best qback we have seen thus far this week. I’m thinking we found 1AAAAA four playoff teams. Looking like from here it wil be Tift, Lowndes, NSHS, and Coffee. Still a ways to go though. Still 3 undefeated teams in 1AAAAA but that comes to an end next week.

ok,,,for the record,,,the refs were terrible at not setting the tone for the game with the taunting by BOTH sides. at frist there was jawing,,,then when reid got beat tift started doing the gator chomp ( not sure if reid did it earlier or not ). later when reid ran the 99 yarder, at the 3-4 yard line he looked back—- i repeat—-“looked”, not turned around backpedaling ,,not dancing backwards, not finger pointing—- he looked backwards and when he crossed the line a yard or 2 in,,a tift player shoved him. this isnt what i “heard” or “read online “,,its what i saw and then had confirmed by a sheriffs deputy. i on more than 1 occasion have said how i wish we would quit showboating and just play the game. as far as the “brawl”— the refs were to blame for letting it get that far when everyone in the stands saw how it was getting to that point earlier.
the game itself was a nailbiter, i couldnt believe the people that got up to leave when we had the ball on the 1 yard line leading by only 7,,,,man,,,what if we had fumbled? a safety? thank goodness reid did run 99 yards but i was just thinking,,,where the heck are you all going?

Coffee, Lowndes and Northside are all undefeated right now…Warner Robins, Tift Co. only have one region loss, as does Colquitt…it might be a photo finish!!! We may answer a lot of questions next friday night as the Showdown in the South between NHS and LHS is in Valdosta and Coffee plays WRHS. HoCo plays Tift as well and Valdosta needs to try and save face against Colquitt.
Sad to say HoCo is probably out though…and maybe Valdosta too?

At the East / Marietta game last night Marietta stands began to empty mid 3rd quarter!!! The East stands WERE filled to overflowing…AGAIN / AS USUAL…and our folks stayed and cheered till the clock ticked down to 00.
At that point it got strangely quiet and in the distance you could hear it…coming from the west, just over the Paulding line…the unmistakable sound of CANNON FIRE!!!…VICTORY AGAIN for our beloved RAIDERS!!!!

No longer worried about the AJC Rankings…Our EAST RAIDERS are now 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in 5A AAAAA play…Trust me Chris, after Oct. 17th there will be several available slots in the top 10 based on the current rankings.
After Etowah (and yes, I realize Etowah is not in Cobb but Sequoyah & Cherokee are and they already understand what it is to play our RAIDERS over the last few years) visits “THE BONEYARD” next week and our RAIDERS continue the march thru the villages of Cobb by going to North Cobb…then the stands will be filled on Oct. 17th at “THE COB”!!!

I didn’t start watching the Tucker/Marist game until about mid-way thru the 1st quarter. I watched it because I thought it was going to be a game. I tell you this any recruiter going after that Davis kid will have a good player but there are some attitude problems there. From the time I started watching I saw him talking smack and taunting. It was pitiful because he got nothing back from the other team so he started doing it to his own team. He kept taking his helmet off on the field while the plays were going and was doing alot of just dirty ball. Once he started with his teammates, they started doing the same stuff. Boy oh boy Tucker better be glad they were playing a white Catholic school. Bring that junk down here and Dat Tuc would have been looking for Dat @ss. Stephens said he took the blame for the loss and he should have cause Dat Tuc needs Dat Discipline.

CAMDEN WILDCAT Lowndes committed way too many turn overs against Tift last night which is out of character for them. Turnovers kept our defense on the field way more than they needed to be out there last night as Coach McPherson quoted in todays newspaper “We turned the ball over too many times. All year, we have been protecting it well, and now this.” to end quote. So yes, we were struggling but mostly from our own mistakes. Not taking anything away from Tift because they came to play and played us hard through out the entire game, but minus the four turn overs i think we would of gotten the opportunity to score at least another TD, but that’s neither here nor there. Despite the turnovers, Lowndes was able to limit the Blue Devils’ scoring opportunites, thanks to a DEFENSE that played well once again. But Reid did but on a spectacular display finishing the game with 190 yards rushing on eight carries, along with his 102-yard fumble return, then scored his third touchdown of the night, taking the ball 99 yards down the sideline to seal the Vikings’ win. And yes they will get it together. So NSWR come on down, you’re the next contestant on FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Keith, I am flattered that you think we (TCC) is the real #2, but I have to disagree. I certainly agree with you on Westside being #1. We are improving, but have a long ways to go!!! That game between these two teams could be huge on Halloween night in Macon. Hey, Tucker was exposed last night…never should have been #1. Westside is clearly the best team in AAAA thus far, but you know how the AJC has got to put the Metro Atlanta schools up there. I will say this….the AJC has TCC ranked #9 and I know we are better than many of the teams ranked ahead of us!!! But we go keep playing and improving and see how this thing pans out!

Also 4-0 this season and 3-0 in 5A AAAAA play, if I remember correctly many said EAST had played a soft 4AAAA schedule and COULD NOT compete at the 5A AAAAA level.
At this point we need to ask South Cobb, McEachern, and Marietta if THEY think EAST can compete in 5A AAAAA!!!!
Next up Big Pappi and the Etowah Eagles…I promise EVERYONE ONE THING…EAST will be ready and “THE BONEYARD” will be rockin’!!! Come early and enjoy one of the BEST High School football Game Day atmospheres ANYWHERE!!!

JAYBO Those of us who follow Tucker, and knew how badly graduation depleted the 2007 team, have been scratching our heads over that number one ranking since the season started. I figured Marist and Chamblee would be the class of the region, and that Tucker might be able to slide past SW Dekalb and get a 2 seed for the playoffs. Losing Roberson and Scott took away any margin for error Tucker had; the bench is paper thin and, as good as Davis is, one guy can’t carry a team. I didn’t expect as bad a beating from Marist as we got, but perhaps it will finally wake up the coaching staff. That one dimensional offense isn’t going to get it done. Marist proved that Tucker lacks the talent to play power football. Agreed that the jury is still out on TCC, although I’d rank them top five right now. Westside, Mays, Sandy Creek and possibly Marist top 4… Marist was a much better team than the one I saw against Chamblee two weeks ago, and coach Chadwick has acknowledged that. From number six on down, you could put Statesboro, Dalton, Rome, Chamblee, and a handful of other teams in a hat and pick ‘em.

I have been posting on here for several seasons now and I promise you one thing…WIN OR LOSE I will be back on here posting!!!…Reread some of the older post and you will see that last year JAYBO and myself went at it pretty good and had a blast…TCC handed East Paulding its worst defeat in the new era, in a PLAYOFF no less and I was right back in here. HSBallfan: All jokes aside, do u think the attitude problems the Davis kid has will be addressed? I know he is good but I wouldn’t have it on any team of mine. If u look closely at the game u can see just how bad a sport he was with alot of head bobbing, slapping @ the other team’s hands, etc. I Tivod it and focused solely on him when I watched it again. Last nite when I watched I knew some stuff was going on but not this bad. Do u have access to see it? I wo’t go into all of it but look at what he did when he ran out of bounds on the other teams side and got about 1 foot or less in front of the coach from arist. Earlier i posted about them and joked about them looking for Dat@ss but if it would have been my sons team, which is mostly black, buddy would have been sitting out next game and i don’t even promote that kind of stuff. That man was over the top w/that trssh, but he was never taken out. That leads folks to think that maybe the coach doesn’t have the control he wants folks to believe. Buddy better settle down if he wants to keep those offers..

Homet will never hide. Win or lose, he is always here and is a great supporter of his team without running down others too much, unlike some on these blogs.
That being said, Homet, I hate to keep saying this, but the real test of 5AAAAA hasn’t started yet. I give the Raiders some props for the McEachern win, but I saw Marietta play Cherokee earlier this year, and the Blue Devils just aren’t that good of a football team. I think the winner of the EP-Etowah game will have a lot to crow about, and it should be an interesting stretch of the season when Etowah, EP and Harrison play each other down the stretch.
A little analysis of what I have seen so far in 5AAAAA: Harrison is the best I have seen. I say that because I haven’t actually SEEN EP or Etowah play this season, but Harrison’s defense is phenomenal and sooner or later Godhigh makes a play on offense to give his team enough points. Kennesaw Mountain has a ton of talent on defense and really hit Harrison in the mouth. Harrison only had two big drives against them, and Kennesaw Mountain’s offense put that defense in bad positions. North Cobb is talented but having to overcome a lot of youth after graduating so many players. Probably wouldn’t want to play them in game 9 or 10. I know Bill Stewart pretty well at Etowah and I have to believe that the top three in the region will be HHS, EP and ETOWAH, but I honestly don’t have enough info to tell what kind of order they will finish. Wish I could see that EP-Etowah game, but have a feeling I might be at Marietta-McEachern this week since that is a big rivalry game in Cobb County.

CHRIS:
I have to comment on your statement that the Harrison Hoyas only had two big drives against Kennesaw. They actually moved to ball quite well and the only thing stopping them was far too many holding penalties. Without the penalties killing drives the score would have been much worse.
Robbie Godhigh is a real stud yet lets also give some credit to the Harrison offensive line. They get the job done upfront especially when they pound it up the middle behind the guards and the big center.
KM’s defense might have hit the Hoyas in the mouth yet the Hoyas took their best shots and gave out plenty of their own.

Without the penalties killing drives the score would have been much worse.
Without a pass interference penalty, Harrison doesn’t score on one of those drives, so we can play that penalty game all day long. Without charges pressed in Virginia, Michael Vick would still be playing in the NFL. Without some key votes in Florida, Al Gore would be president. Penalties are a big part of the game and they STOP drives.
lets also give some credit to the Harrison offensive line.
If you read my preview story on Friday of the game, I listed each of those guys up front and gave them their due.
KM’s defense might have hit the Hoyas in the mouth yet the Hoyas took their best shots and gave out plenty of their own.
I never said otherwise. Both defenses were stellar in my opinion with linebackers flying all over the place. Hard to imagine a 21-0 win being a defensive battle, but it really was.

CHRIS:
Not arguing with you about penalties. The Hoyas did the crime so they paid the price. If my memory is correct the Hoyas did not score on the drive where there was pass interference called against KM. I believe they missed a field goal so making that statement is not relevant.I am only stating the Hoya offense shot themselves in the foot more than the KM defense stopped them.
Couldn’t agree more that it was a hard fought defensive battle. The Hoyas made more mistakes than KM in terms of penalties yet still dominated the game on both sides. The KM offense did nothing whereas the Hoyas moved the ball.

Camden Wildcat……..I really don’t know what you have against NSWR ,but let me tell you a couple things….First ,any true baller would’t feel that Lowndes “struggled” as you put it against Tift Co….. Tift Co. is always a force to be dealt with ,no matter what their record is…. The Tift/Lowndes game is not a indicator for next weeks game ,NSWR coaches ,Players and fans understands this ,the only thing is they’ll probably take a look at this game tape and see what Tift did differently from say Ware and the other teams they’ve played this year …..I really don’t understand you and Mistermak with your comments…. Like myself Most NSWR fans have been around for a long time and either played at NSWR or for the Demons….We are familiar with Region 1-AAAAA , we don’t take either team lightly , but we know there is a difference between Lowndes and Hoco ….Even though we were in AAAA for the last 4 seasons ,we got the chance over the last 4 seasons to see Lowndes ,Tift ,Valdosta and other region -1 teams on certain nights ,because all 3 WR schools share the same field ,a lot of thurs and sat games here….You want to compare Non-region schedules ,B.T Washington just as NSWR lost much of their 2007 squad due to graduation ,lose the likes of Brandon Harris and see what impact that it will have on a team ,but then again BTW had matchups with NSWR ,Chandler AZ and Nwest-Miami how many teams would’t have a losing record at this point with a schedule like theirs…… Our four year stint in AAAA we went 54-3 ,and the 3 losses were to the eventual State Champion in both 2004 and 2005 ,You seem to think that playing for four years in AAAA was a cake walk for us ,kick a email to Robert Davis , Alan Chadwick ,Ed Pilcher or Jesse Hicks and they’ll give you an entirely different look at our 2006 and 2007 teams and AAAA ball in general……Camden Cat , I enjoy this blog and enjoy football…I like to read real posts from Yo and most of the South Ga. crew ,Slalom 1 ,HSballfan , Jaybo , Homet , T.J and others ,because you’ll get a good idea of what their respective teams are looking like as the season goes on….You and Mistermak represent Camden , which everyone should respect , and we only get nonsense and attacks on other programs….If you’re a High school kid ,ill give you a pass ,if you’re an adult ,come at us like an adult.

JD is a handfull…has been since the day he arrived from Pius. He probably gets more leeway than he should because he’s the team leader, but the coaches keep it under control. He’s been dressed down before for taunting the other side, and I’m sure it won’t be the last time. That fire, for better or worse, is part of the fuel for his greatness. Ironically, think Ty Cobb.

You know the games are starting to count when the blog starts getting this “lively”…
Hey Chris…You need to reconsider that Marietta / McEachern game and come on out to “THE BONEYARD”!!!
For:Eagle08
South Cobb scored its ONLY TD with 4 seconds left in the game against virtually none of the starters…Marietta scored its ONLY TD on a fumble at the goal line that was run back some 96+ yards against the OFFENSE…the DEFENSE barely let either of these teams past the 50 yard line in either game…
Looking at the Etowah scores in its games this year and the EAST offensive talent I would like to say we are in for a shootout but I just can’t see that happenning…predicting this game is a tough one and I am going to wait till later in the week, a bit closer to the game to post my blog prediction.

REEZE I must say that I also enjoy blogs from the likes of yourself and YO because when you really get down to it this region is tough regardless of what records may indicate and I know when you guys post it’s tasteful and you know what you’re talking about when it comes to your teams. And just for the record I was at the Tift/Lowndes game and Lowndes had way too many turnovers in that game which kept the defense on the field way too often. So, in my opinion Lowndes didn’t struggle with Tift. If anything Lowndes struggled with themselves. So, Reeze keep the blogs coming and I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot from each other come next week? Keith: Westside has to come west. We will see if HC will step up. Win over Bainbridge was strong. I hope Westside underestimaes HC.. Small, no big name single players. Just 11 young men playing with character on both sides of the ball. We just beat Hardaway a big rivalry game. I have to just shake my head at the Columbus officials. It has always been bad but tonight was our worse. Score at the end was close but only because of the officials. Our young men and coaches kept there cool and beat the other team and officials. You out of town teams need to be aware of this when you come to Columbus. I watched them (officials) give a game to Shaw over Lagrange a few years ago. Just venting. It was good for our guys. We lost a playoff game in Henry county last year with help from the officials. This time we kept our cool and beat them both. As it is always said do not let it get close enough for the officials to effect the outcome. Keith, hope you drive over for the game. We have an awesome stadium and treat all visitors with respect. Not a bad drive. Keep up the good work HC. Very proud of you. HC Fan HC Grad

To REEZE! I don’t know why you are throwing me under the bus! I just mentioned that I am sick of hearing Northside fan talk so much crap. NSWR has been in AAAAA all of a month and he thinks ya’ll are already the champs! And from his typing he doesn’t seem very educated either. Camden would love to play NSWR. We never back down from any challenge. Hopefull we will get a chance to play in Nov. There is a difference from AAAAA and AAAA so just play the game and we’ll see what happens. I am by the way a graduate of Camden, 23 years ago. So if you think I am calling you out then so be it. But ya’ll all sound a little too cocky!! By the way How ‘bout them dawgs? ROLL TIDE!!!

For Chris- I don’t see a shootout with Etowah And East. This game will be won in the treches with ball control and minmial miscues. Key turnover may decide game. Points at a premium. Hornet and I agree, you are going to the wrong game. Where are the Marietta and McCeachern Bloggers?

Joe Joe, Your comment that a lot of NSWR posters are very arrogant is incorrect. There are a couple of our guys who are, but no more than Lowndes or Camden supporters. You couldn’t wait to minimize our victory over Houston Co., putting the Bears on the same level as Bradwell Institute from your region. HOCO is 2-0 versus your region this year, by the way, and beat Bradwell. I think you just want to throw your darts at Northside because we are in the limelight while you guys play in the weakest AAAAA region in GA.

Alan I really don’t think you wanna start it up with me….all but one of your comments on this blog have been reckless. They are equivalent to Bradwell…only beat them by 4 points. It could’ve gone either way. You’re right though. Lowndes and Camden’s arrogant comments are equal to those of NSWR….but that’s two teams vs. one. Also you guys are in the limelight this week….and that’s only because you’re playing Lowndes…after this weekend you will be forgotten…and soon after will fall to number three in your region. LOL.

yo, you’ve hit the nail on the head re: WRHS and it’s offense. The only way for the Demons to muster up some offense is to get rid of the all coaches on the that side of the ball. Our offensive production has been relatively subpar for the past few years. However, we’ll take a win any way we can get on. We needed that in the worst way!

Homet, I would love to join your party, and tell you how great the 17th will be , but I cant get that pumped over playing a 4-2 team. You are just another game to us. I have watched films on east ,Etowah, and North cobb. I have seen etowah and North cobb live. East will not beat Etowah, or north cobb. The easy part of your schedule is over. You have yet to play a reg. team who has a winnig record. Mar. 2-2, Mc. 2-3 and south cobb 1-4. thats a combined record of 5-9. You keep clling me out. so I have to tell the truth. East aint that good!

Valdosta have great athletes, but just not prepared to play, especially on offense. Their practice on the offensive side of the ball is not physical at all, no ones on ones they just paractice against the scout team.If they ever hope to get back to Valdosta football it has to be done in practice. You play the way you Practice.

HOMET
If EP can go thru their next four games at 2 - 2 they should be content. They will have survived and will still be in the playoff hunt. If they go 3 - 1 they should be ecstatic. In North Cobb they will see more speed than they have probably ever seen. They are also big. With the rest, Kennesaw Mountain, Etowah and Harrison they will see well balanced and very physical teams. KM just puts in the mouthpiece and goes at you all night whereas the others will run it, throw it and mix it up offensively and defensively.
If you come out 2 -2 or 3 -1 or better I will say hats off to the Raiders. I just don’t see it happening. Of course, that is why they play the games.

East has more playmakers then Harrison. Godhigh is a good back but East has 3 really good backs. East, Etowah, and Harrison are the tops of the region. I really would not be surprised if EP wins the region, they are that good and this is coming from a McEachern guy. Their D hits harder then any I have seen so far and have speed all over the field. They are building a nice program across the county line.

HCDad..man it sure is nice to see someone else from Harris Co. on here. I am a 91 grad of HC and a former player also. I don’t get to attend many games but I’m always watching the sports and reading the paper to see how the the Tigers did. Man when I was watching the sports saturday night and heard that HC had beat Hardaway to go to 3-0 in the region I nearly jumped through the ceiling…LOL.I am so proud of the guys and the great job that coach Parks is doing.Just like you said in you blog..HC guys are small but they play with heart and that’s all that matters.Seems like we’ve always had small tought teams …even back when I played from 88-91. I was at the playoff game last year in Henry Co. and I was hurt by the loss. The officials took that game away from us. I guess they just couldn’t let a #4 seed upset a #1 seed. I must admit that I thought that the move from2- AAA to 1- AAAA would be tougher than it’s been. I know that we have the toughest part of out schedule coming up with Westside ans TCCentral but I think that it’s very manageable after that. I like what you said to Keith about not underestimating HC against Westside. It would really be nice if we can pull that one off. I definitely think we will make the playoffs and maybe this year we can get a win without the officials predicting the outcome. Hopefully we will finish 2nd in the region and get a home playoff game then not have to worry about the officiating. I’m so glad that we have a good coach who has been there for a while with a good system in place. It seems like HC has been going in a positive direction since we went 5-5 in 1990. I only hopes it continues because it’s a great school with great people who deserve the best. Well man I don’t want to bore you with all this but I just love to talk about football..especially county football. I hope to hear from you and maybe we can talk about some county football. Go Tigers!
