AJC high school rankings: Valdosta wins game, loses ranking
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Here’s the way it is
Class AAAAA — Camden jumps Northside. Valdosta is out of the rankings despite winning. Over/under on Northside-Valdosta is 19.5 points. North Gwinnett and Norcross replaced Valdosta and North Cobb in the rankings. Also considered Stephenson. Almost considered East Paulding and Etowah.
Class AAAA — Mays jumps four spots to No. 4. This class is hard to project. Too many unproven teams. The last team in my Top 5 to win state was Bainbridge in 1982. Congrats to Westside’s Robert Davis on victory No. 346, which ties him w/ Dan Pitts for No. 2 in Georgia history.
Class AAA — Carver stays put at No. 2 despite loss to Northside. It’s No. 2 Carver vs. No. 3 Baldwin this week. I like Carver in that. The Grangers are back in the Top 10. Cartersville nipped Thomson for the No. 10 spot.
Class AA — Thomasville becomes the first school in history to be ranked at 0-3. Nobody outside the Top 10 would’ve done better against Thomasville’s gauntlet of higher-class opponents. Unlike AAAA, which is wide open, I feel pretty confident that the runner-up to Buford in AA will come from teams in the current Top 10.
A — Miller County joins the Top 10. Considered Johnson County & Bowdon.
Todd talks back: Holcomb mixes it up with you all week long. Catch his running commentary in Poll Talk Monday-Friday. Leave comments, questions, etc., here and return to talk about this week’s rankings.

Todd
I have never paid much attention to rankings. I am a Camden Wildcat Fan, I think our number one goal is to get better each week. Rankings are simply someones opinion on how good the teams are in the State. Heck often the people that rank the teams have never seen them play. As far as Camden is concerned, we have our work cut out for us. I am certain our coaches are already preparing for the next opponent even though this Friday is a open week. As far as rankings, watching the rankings will get you beat. As far as I am concerned, we have 12 more games to win. That is going to be difficult because of the quality teams in the state. We will stay humble and not worry about if we are ranked second or tenth.

Bainbridge is getting better with each game. From the Bainbridge teams I have watched over the years coach Pilcher has our team in better condition and they play hard for 4 quarters. We still got a ways to go but coach Pilcher is doing a fine job at getting us there. By the end of the year we should be in the mix of things.

Todd, rankings do mean somthing. They mean somebody, or a group of people have taken notice of your teams good play, or bad play. I believe rankings are more for fans than coaches and players, and really should’nt effect a teams play. Thanks for taken notice of Harrison, and moving us to 7. Where we go from here is up to us . Good move with camden, good move with Valdosta, and great no move with EP.If they win the next two, maybe. Etowah looks tuf, but could they beat Norcross, so another good move.Todd, you did all right this week.

im the startin center #74 for the cairo syrupmakers…thomasville played the heck out of us this past friday…they are very well deserving of the top 10 position…they will shock AA teams in how good they are…they are a physical team with lots of speed on both sides of the ball

Carver-Columbus, Beat Northside Warner-Robbins every where except the scoreboard!! This game was not for the faint at heart! A go ahead touchdown was called back with seconds left on the clock. Which would have sealed the game. G.W. Carver (AAA school) more than held it’s own with Northside (AAAAA school). AJC, I think you predicted a blow out. Once again, your scouting and facts were horribly wrong!!! The final score was 7-6.

I’d move Camden ahead of Northside right now also. Nice win on the road in Alabama, even if Hoover isn’t close to what they used to be. Northside’s offense is not progressing as fast as we hoped and they were outplayed by Carver. But sometimes you win games you probably should have lost. This one definitely goes in that category. The offense must improve as the region schedule begins with Valdosta. That 19.5 over-under is about right Todd. I’ll take the under.

Don’t rule Coffee out of the mix. This is the best defense I’ve seen at Coffee in 8 or nine years… The offense is improving by the week… I beleive our only test will be Lowndes. I don’t believe Northside-Warner Robins will be in the hunt week after next..

Rankings may be important to some people; however, getting caught up in the hype can make your team become complacent. What happens between the lines is of most importance. It is nice to be ranked; however, being ranked will not win championships.

Todd, In the Carver-N-Side game the refs took the game from Carver! Our O-Line control the game all night….Hubbard did a great job on super 11 A.Jones all night. I think hubbard stock shock should rise. The other Super 11 guy N-Side has is Overrated….Fields is no J.Jones or L.Furr…. I think Carver has the Best Defence in the State…Any Class A,AA,AAA,AAAA,AAAAA….Todd what you think?

Trademe ……..You are correct Carver should have won ,you guys won on both front lines ,really big bruisers on Carver’s o-line…..I think both teams will benefit from this game tremendously…Carver’s special teams and kicking game has to improve, a missed block for a extra point cost a least a overtime win and a chip shot FG cost Carver the win….As far a Nside is concerned ,the QB play has to improve ,Nobody really expects Chansi Stuckey or Marquez Ivory around here out of Scott ,But he a least has to be good enough to keep an opposing defense honest and on the field..Our defense didn’t have a chance to make adjustments….Something really bothered me about that game was the officiating crew…First the crew was out of Columbus, and even had a Carver graduate on the crew! ,Usually crews calling games here at the Mac are out of ATL ,or somewhere else , I don’t know if there’s a ruling against this ,but it doesn’t seem to be a good idea….. Second the holding of Carver”s offensive players on our defensive players,it seemed to me that this was the norm for them ,because they held nearly on every play , blatantly , in front of the refs ,our bench ,and during the first half of play the officiating crew seemed not to notice…NS coaching staff and Fans surely did, LOL…I guess the officiating crew during half time were bombarded with protest after protest ,they started do the their job and Carver got a lot of calls in the second half , one cost them the winning TD..,,but overall a good game to watch.

To: By Trade Me: NSWR and Carver-Columbus both played a tough game. Their defenses predicted the outcome. I don’t think the AJC or any other reparable source said the game would be a blow out. You made that up! In fact, some predicted a Carver win. You are talking about last year champions in AAA and AAAA. If Carver were to move from their number 1 or 2 AAA ranking to AAAAA right now— they would be in the top ten of AAAAA teams.

Keep LaGrange off the list. Remember, they lost big to a bad Perry team last year and to Newnan this year. They shouldn’t be ranked at all, Todd. Keep them off your list. They’ll struggle against Central-Macon. Please correct your top ten before too many more people see it.

To Question,
Northside High School-WR and Warner Robins High School are different schools.
To Trademe,
Northside won the game on the scoreboard and that’s what counts. Besides, the 6 points Carver got were a gift and the officials helped Carver all night except on the last drive. I guess they felt quilty.

Well we really DIDN’T expect any difference TODD…EAST beats Rome in our home opener(the AJC #5 ranked AAAA team at the time) and then DOMINATES our first 5A AAAAA opponent South Cobb winning 41 (or 42 some dispute on whether the extra point was allowed) to 10 (and South Cobb only scored their 7 points with 4 seconds left in the game against the EAST J.V. players!!!)
Ok…next up McEachern at “THE BONEYARD” this friday and then Marietta…
QUESTION TODD: When and yes HOYADAWG I did say WHEN EAST goes into the 3 game stretch of Etowah at “THE BONEYARD”, and North Cobb & Harrison as away games with a record of 4 & 0 where do you have them placed then?
Those 3 games are 3 TOUGH games ANY team would be concerned with and I will be VERY SURPRISED if they are not decided by 3 points or less or the team with the ball last!!!

How about them Rams from Grayson. Manhandling Dacula. It was a ugly penalty ridden game. Officiating was terrible but it saved Dacula from a even worse stomping. Game of the week will be Norcross vs. North Gwinnett. There can be only 1! I think this game determines the region champs and of course it determines who stays in the top 10 for sure. My money is on North Gwinnett! Second game of the week will be N.S. W.R. vs. Valdosta. It is at N.S.W.R. but both struggled a little bit from lower classification teams. How will winning or losses effect the Poll. Major changes to top 10 next week? Todd, loss by any of these 4 teams bump them out of top 10? I think the answer is yes to all 4 but wanted to get a read from you.

dougmo: Valdosta has not really played anybody yet. Maybe Todd thinks like the AP & USA Today polls in college football & dropped Valdosta for a lackluster 14-10 win over Jonesboro like UGA dropped after an unimpressive win over South Carolina. I agree with you that Region 1-AAAAA is the toughest in the state, but North Gwinnett & Norcross have played a tougher schedule. North has played Byrnes SC, the #1 team according to USA Today as well as Brookwood. Norcross has played Camden. Don’t worry, one of them will drop out of the rankings this week since they play at North Friday night. Look for Norcross to win. Seems North has had their problems with Norcross losing to them the last 2 years.
BTW: With the relatively close games that NSWR & Valdosta played on Friday night, does anyone think that both teams may have looked ahead to this Friday night?

OK HOYADAWG:…Read between the lines, by Todd saying “I almost considered” in his approach to EAST (and Etowah for that matter) he was doing his AJC “NOSE THUMBING” at GOOD North Ga. teams…
My question was a valid question (and yes I think Todd has time to answer my question as well as everyone elses…that what this blog is for) but for your benefit HOYADAWG I will “refraise” the question a bit:
IF EAST were to go into the into the 3 game stretch with Etowah, North Cobb & Harrison with a 4 & 0 record would that be enough (IN TODD’S OPINION, since it is his poll) to rank in the top 10?
and HOYADAWG…circle OCT, 17th on your calender, I still say that game is going to be a GREAT FOOTBALL GAME!!!! READ my previous post:
Those 3 games are 3 TOUGH games ANY team would be concerned with and I will be VERY SURPRISED if they are not decided by 3 points or less or the team with the ball last!!!

Carver got 6 easy points Northside gave them. They were playing this game like it was their Super Bowl. Northside had played a Florida state champ 6 days earlier and was pumped up for that (Easy 31-7 win). Carver does have a very good team. HOWEVER, having said all that, look at the scoreboard….Northside wins again, and they WILL be pumped for Valdosta.

Carver-Columbus played a heck of a game against NSWR—both Champions from last year. NSWR is ranked 2 or 3 in AAAAA and Carver 1 or 2 in AAA. Regardless of the referee crew being from Columbus (one Carver grad), and NSWR playing in Columbus—the final score was 7 to 6. That score stays on the book FOREVER. Now, what Carver has to do is not fall in the trap like Perry HS did against NSWR. They laid evrything on the line to beat NSWR but lost. The next week they had nothing left and was beaten by a very good single A Wilcox County team. Carver travels to Baldwin Cty this week, a team who is no push over. Carver has better be careful and forget about their lost to NSWR. We have Valdosta to think about this week AND Lowndes the following week WOW!

I am not suprised at the treatment that Valdosta receives from the AJC. Tell me when the last time was that a team was ranked 5th or 6th and fell out of the top 10 after winning a game. I assure you that it wouldn’t have happened if Parkview or Brookwood were in the same situation. As far as the one loss teams that you placed in the top 10, anybody from Region 1AAAAA would beat them. That being said, the great thing about high school football is that the AJC’s biased rankings won’t affect our shot at a state title if we take care of business on the field.

As I anticipated, a very young Mays team is undefeated and now ranked #4 in the state. WOW!!! Whatever happened to the overrated and overly confident Carver-Atlanta team and all of their overly hyped super stars? It didn’t take long for the Mays Raiders to make people stop sleeping and start believing in a team that lost 16 starters last year. It is now time for the AJC to develop a more keen eye when ranking teams and consider the strength of their schedules. Go see teams practice now and then. That way the media people can better place the hype where it should be and not find themselves making excuses for losers they have openly supported. Due to an off week, Carver has two weeks to prepare for St. Pius. Pius is still going to obliterate Carver on Friday at Lakewood stadium, just like Mays did. After that fiasco, expect complete domination of Alexander by Mays. MAYS all the way in (2008) and beyond…GO RAIDERS!!!

Go Cats Go you guys are looking good. Proud of you. Always fun :-)to play Camden in the Dome. Especially if it were for all of the marbles. We’ll do our best to stay #1 (not going to be easy given the records of the remaining teams we play in 1AAAAA). 1AAAAA is 22 wins and 2 losses after 3 weeks of football. Tift and Warner the only schools having 1 loss each at 2-1. The other 5 schools are 3-0. For Lowndes the real season begins this week with a revitalized Colquitt Co. coming into Martin stadium at 3-0 and it has been a while since this game has meant something. Looking forward to a Valdosta/Lowndes atmosphere of a game as Colquitt fans can be pretty fanatic when they get to feeling good about their chances. This is the week we start sorting the contenders from the pretenders in 1AAAAA.

To Kyle from Valdosta. Your Q? “when was the last time a team ranked 5th or 6th dropped out of the top ten after winning?” I’m not sure but in 2006, Roswell ascended to the #1 spot in the AAAAA poll, lost to Wheeler 14-3 the next week and dropped out of the top ten from the #1 spot. Point being, Roswell made it to the State Championship game vs. P Ridge that same year so keep on winning and the polls will take care of themselves.

I did predict 21-7, but I wasn’t thinking blowout. I was thinking tight, low-scoring game, with NSWR getting a late TD to put it away.
Is Northside Warner Robbins and Warner Robbins the same school?
No. But they secretly pull for each other.
i believe that region 5-a with lowndes, valdosta, northside-warner robins, coffee and others in thier region they are the sec of high school football so they shouldnt be hurt in the polls as much for playing the toughest region schedule.
I agree, but those teams havent begun their region schedules.
no etowah! come on. they are a good team. but its also understandable. but is there a chance of them getting ranked if the beat cherokee this week?
Theres always a chance. Just ask Lloyd Christmas. Depends on how many spots open up. But Stephenson would be my first choice, or Valdosta if Valdosta beats Northside. But it depends on how well the teams play this weekend. Etowah is on the radar.
How is Laney High school not ranked at least 7th 8th 9th or 10th in AA.We lost to now # 6 Jeff Co by 2 in a game one nail biter that could of went either wayWe beat Screven County and beat previous #4 Dublin Friday by 10 points in which we completely shut them out and totally dominated them in the second half..And we still are not ranked.
Hard to argue with that. So I wont. Good points.
What will it take for Griffin to get back into the AAAA rankings? They lost a close game to a good Dunwoody team and then blow out 2 straight teams. Just asking.
There are five teams in Class AAAA that have been ranked only to fall out with one loss. Griffin is one. The others are Marist and TCC (both back in the Top 10) and Whitewater and Rome. All have similar credentials, but TCC got the nod based on 2007, and Marist got the nod based on beating a Top 10 team. Whitewater, Rome and Griffin each have lost close games to good teams. Its hard to separate those teams without a dart board. Griffin plays a light schedule and should finish 9-1 if the Bears are a Top 10 team.
Todd, you just proved you are a Metro Area hack. Two teams with one loss from Gwinnett overtake a team from the most competitive region in the state? Explain this please.
It doesnt matter if youre from the most competitive region in the state if you havent started your region schedule. Valdosta almost lost to a below-average Class AAAA school. Meanwhile, North Gwinnett and Norcross have convincing wins over good Class AAAAA teams.
Well we really DIDNT expect any difference TODDEAST beats Rome in our home opener(the AJC #5 ranked AAAA team at the time) and then DOMINATES our first 5A AAAAA opponent South Cobb.
Impressive, but its still not time for EP. Who would you scratch from the rankings to accommodate EP? If EP emerges as the best team in 5-AAAAA.
* WHEN EAST goes into the 3 game stretch of Etowah at THE BONEYARD, and North Cobb & Harrison as away games with a record of 4 & 0 where do you have them placed then?*
Pretty high. To be a Top 10 team, you need to beat a Top 10-calibre team (like Harrison or North Cobb).
Depends on how close the games are. The NG-Norcross loser will drop out. Valdosta will return to the Top 10 with a win. Northside might remain with a loss if its a game that couldve gone either way. Next teams in line are probably Stephenson, Etowah and East Paulding, maybe North Cobb. But they need to play like Top 10 teams, not squeek by mediocre-to-bad teams.
HMMM NO MENTION OF THE BEATDOWN LAGRANGE GAVE TO STEPHENS COUNTY..WERENT THEY IN THE TOP 5 IN AAA??
LaGrange is mentioned at No. 8 in the rankings this week. Stephens fell out, as did Flowery Branch despite winning. FBs loss to Stephens doesnt look so good now.
Valdosta has not really played anybody yet.
My thoughts exactly. In fact, Georgias win at South Carolina was much more impressive than Valdostas win at home vs. Jonesboro.
I am not suprised at the treatment that Valdosta receives from the AJC. Tell me when the last time was that a team was ranked 5th or 6th and fell out of the top 10 after winning a game.
Tell me when the last time Jonesboro beat a team outside its own county. Not since 2004! Im not giving Valdosta a pass for needing a blocked punt in the fourth quarter to a weak Class AAAA team.
As far as the one loss teams that you placed in the top 10, anybody from Region 1AAAAA would beat them.
So Valdosta beats Jonesboro 17-14, and youre confident that Valdosta would beat Norcross and North Gwinnett? And didnt Grayson beat Warner Robins 31-0?
That being said, the great thing about high school football is that the AJCs biased rankings wont affect our shot at a state title if we take care of business on the field.
Last week, I had four teams from Region 1-AAAAA and five teams from South Georgia in the Top 10. To correct my bias toward South Georgia teams, I had to get rid of somebody. Valdosta got the short straw. But despite threats from my editors, I stood firm on ranking South Georgia favorite Thomasville despite an 0-3 record. Sometimes you have to take a stand.

To Homet, Can you just get off it a little bit. Why is it so important for you to post about the EP Raiders not being ranked, or not getting respect. It really doesn’t matter if they are 4-0 going into those games or not, if they lose one of those 3 they will be out of the rankings anyway. How about you just quietly root the Raiders on, and then when and if they win the really important games, and they are in the dome playing for a title, then shoot your mouth off. Other wise, ‘who cares’ who is ranked. Read the first post by the Camden fan, and learn a bit about class, and stop whinning on this blog all the time. I am a big EP fan, but stop making us out as the biggest crybabies fans in the State. They will earn whatever respect is due on the field,,,,not through your crying about it in a blog. Get a life.

Is Northside Warner Robbins and Warner Robbins the same school?
First of all, it is Warner ROBINS (just one “b”) - spell it right! It makes everyone in the mid-state cringe just seeing that!
No - they are not the same team. Say that in Middle Georgia and you’ll be laughed out of town. They are cross-town rivals. There is a LOT of school spirit there and in the past, quite a bit of animosity between the two teams. However, ever since NHS (or NSWR as it is called here) started winning championships, WRHS fans quickly shut-up and the city basically united - everywhere except of course for the NHS-WRHS annual game, which is often one of the biggest games in the state, if not the Southeast. There is a LOT of history there and every graduate from either school has a story to tell about the atmosphere of both schools during “spirit week” and various pranks over the years.
I do wish that announcers were told that Northside != Warner Robins when calling games though. I remember watching NHS take on a team in Statesboro for a championship and the tv announcers kept calling them “Warner Robins.” I wanted to scream every time they said it!

D. Cash, You don’t just get good offensive and defensive linemen. Rather good linemen are developed by good coaches. Football is a lineman’s game, skill players just get the headlines. In other words, you can’t win consistently unless you have coaches who can develop linemen. Mays had to replace their entire offensive line and all but one starter on the defensive line. You might need to reconsider your focus if you are actually serious about becoming a contender one day. Stop making excuses!

Good job Todd. Etowah? I don’t think they’ve had a season in recent memory without at least four losses. This one won’t be any different once they get to the tougher second half when they play all the 5-AAAAA contenders, Harrison, North Cobb, East, and Marietta. What do you want, credit for beating Starr’s Mill, I think that’s a performing arts school! If you don’t beat Cherokee, please shut up. If you do beat them, please shut up until you leave the Boneyard October 3.

Todd,
Rankings look about as they should this week. Lowndes and Camden, at this point, are the teams to beat in AAAAA. The Lowndes/Colquitt game may be interesting this week. It looks like Propst has Colquitt heading in the right direction (his personal life notwithstanding) as they have already surpassed their win total from last year. I don’t think that they will beat Lowndes, but I would not be at all surprised if they hang in there for a while. Norcross/North Gwinett should also be an interesting game. Perhaps if Valdosta makes a god showing against WRNS they can sneak back in when one of the aformentioned teams loses. I would not sell Valdosta short in that game either.
Also Rich McWhorter has another pretty good squad at Charlton this year (I still don’t know where they get all this talent..the place is not that big!) They look to be improving each week and were very impressive in their win over First Coast a couple of weeks ago. That young quarterback has the potential to be another Dasher type by the time he is a senior.
It looks as if we are in for another great season of quality football in the State of Georgia.

Camden fans, you have a good team but let’s put things in perspective. You beat a decent Norcross team 21-6 in the dome; Lake City, FL Columbia (8-4 last year) in your park; and an overhyped Hoover, Alabama team on the decline. Now you take on the powderpuffs in your region, guaranteeing an undefeated regular season. Enjoy your #2 ranking all season long, because you won’t go any higher. The Lowndes-Northside winner will be number one and deservedly so.

Alan,
As we are quick to point out down here in Camden….we are not any happier about our region than anyone else is….but we can’t exactly move…..we would be better off scrimmaging our 2nd team than playing most of these stiffs….so get over it…we can only play who is on the schedule and are limited to 10 games (7 of which are in Region). 6 and 0 at the Kell, and pretty good showings against in state and out of state teams. I do know this….not being from this area originally, and having watched HS football in 8 or 9 states, I can say that Jeff Herron has built an excellent program down here, and if you expect to beat a Camden team, you had better bring your “A” game, and don’t expect to score a lot of points. Outside of Lowndes, who also has an excellent program, I have not seen many AAAAA school that field the same caliber as these 2 programs, year in and year out. We welcome the opportunity to meet any and all comers in the playoffs and look forward to providing some of our Camden County hospitality to your program, whichever one that may be. At least this year we won’t have the Region 1 and region 3 #1 seeds meeting in the semi-finals.

I am happy that Lissa wrote the book instead of me. No poster here should believe that Northside Eagles fans and Warner Robins fans have this happy relationship. Things were much more contengous when the city only had two high schools. Northside never accepted our places as Warner Robins’ whipping boys and Northside felt the pain of losing to Warner Robins in those days because only one team from each region advanced to the state playoffs.
The GHSA began to make changes in the mid 1980s and the animosity subsided a little. Also, Warner Robins fans have seemed to accept their place a whipping boys. There is very little fight in today’s version of the Warner Robins Demons. It is debatable the Warner Robins is even the second best program in Warner Robins. Most observers have said for years that Houston County has had better talent.
However, for Todd to proclaim Northside and Warner Robins fans closet fans of one another is a stretch. I believe there is a mutual respect. However, that is not unique to Warner Robins. I am certain the same mutual respect exists in many towns like Warner Robins, i.e. Valdosta, LaGrange, and others.

How on earth does Camden County jump Northside in the polls by beating two out of state teams, who are clearly weak opponents? I do not believe state rankings matter nearly as much as region rankings. Furthermore, Northside is ahead of Camden County in virtually every major national poll (I believe Camden is ahead in one). Camden has yet to play anyone good and are entering there usual run of Savannah area cupcakes. It is like the schedules of programs like Hawaii and Boise State.
Northside plays a local opponent in Perry, the fourth high school in Houston County. Perry has an AJC Super 11 player on their roster (name one All-America player on Camden’s schedule thus far). Then, Northside HAMMERS Booker T. Washington, the defending state champions in Florida and a national ranked program out of Miami. Northside follows that game up against the defending state champions in Georgia. Now the rocket scientists conducting the AJC poll, along with Todd, are penalizing Northside due to dissatisfaction to the manner which Northside won its 33rd straight football game against a defensing Georgia state champion ON THE ROAD. Todd, are you guys serious?????
There is a likely chance that Booker T. Washington will repeat as state champions. Perry will finish the season with one of the best players in the state and likely make a state playoff run. Carver-Columbus will make another run at the AAA state title and we all know it.
Now, let’s look at Camden’s schedule. There are no heavyweights on their schedule. ZERO! Hoover are as significant in Alabama football this season as a former Georgia football power like Clark-Central. They don’t even have the same coach. Lake City lost 4 games last season. At what point did Lake City become the beasts of Florida. Northside is 69-4 since the 2003 season. Come on Todd.
Booker T. Washington (FL) is CLEARLY better than Lake City (FL). Northside beat BTW. Camden beat Lake City.
Carver-Columbus would HAMMER Hoover (AL) and every poster on this site knows it. There is not a top team in Georgia that Hoover could even compete against, that includes AA schools. A team like Lovett might even beat Hoover. Northside beat Carver on the road. Camden beat Hoover.
Northside tops Perry, who would CRUSH nearly every Savannah area program. I am shocked that there are even whispers that Northside has done anything short of played the most challenging schedule in the state. To penalize Northside by dropping us in the polls is very interesting.

To: Jimmy Williams, What is up with your attitude? Have you ever even attended a GHS football game? Have you kept up with how the 2008 season has been going? LG dropped out of the rankings after losing to a VERY good Newnan team in Game 1. NO whining from me. But LG has improved tremendously since Game 1 and thoroughly whipped a very good RANKED Stephens Co team 30-6. Also, have you looked at what Newnan has done to opposing teams since the win over LG? 35-3 and 55-6. No shame in losing to Newnan. Do not know where your venom comes from, but if you are a Troup fan, you would know that I have bally-hooed Troup’s team since pre-season, and still believe they will be there when their starting QB is 100%. REEZE: I could not attend the Carver vs. NSWR game, but saw the replay. As you said, it did appear that Carver blew the win with a weak kicking game. However, I am glad to hear someone other than myself questioning the officiating crew in Columbus, Ga. The “zebras” in Muscogee Co have become legendary. And yes, you are right. They ALWAYS use local officials in Muscogee Co. Having said that, it makes one wonder how close the game would have actually been with a neutral officiating crew. I know that you were not making excuses, but it is an observation worth taking note of. Been there. Done that. Many times.

Todd, how does anyone drop Valdosta out of the polls? I do not know how the Wildcats go undefeated and stand unranked in the state of Georgia. I see 5 metro Atlanta area schools in the top 10 including two teams with losses. You guys are the biggest Atlanta area school cheerleaders that I have ever seen. I guess placing Norcross and North Gwinnett in the top 10 helps sell papers. I would think integrity would help with the paper sells.
Can anyone name one top state program (outside of metro Atlanta) in a big game that Norcross or North Gwinnett (or Walton or Harrison) has ever beaten? Valdosta has 23 state championships and 6 National Championships. Combined the 5 metro Atlanta schools that the AJC pollsters are cheerleading (this week…we all know that list will expand) have ZERO state championships (and ZERO state championship appearances).
To have a poll in this state and to have a Valdosta team 3-0 and unranked is a borderline joke. Todd, you guys are losing all creditibility. Excluding Valdosta is unjustifiable!!! I guess if you are just picking straws, there are more metro Atlanta straws to choose from. North Gwinnett is not a top 5 program in Region 1AAAAA, yet the AJC proclaims them #9 in the state! Norcross regularly has a roster of major Division I players yet they can not even make it to the Georgia Dome. You guys should place pom-poms over the words metropolitan Atlanta programs at the top of the AJC high school sports page.

As always, the haters will alway come out of the wood work. Put the Region 3 AAAAA to bed will you, please. Every team with this issue against the Wildcats can put them on their schedule. Coach Heron has built a winning program in Camden County, and puts the schedule together to make the kids better. I see all of the bloggers yapping about the schedule the Wildcats play. Maybe coaches don’t want to face the Wildcats early in the season, when there is always a possibility to see them in the playoffs? Intriguing, don’t you think?

If you paid any attention to anything you would know that Camden proposed joining Region 1 several years ago but the Athletic Directors of the schools involved shot down the idea as a result of THE OTHER sports involved and the travel schedules. If you really feel strongly about playing Camden, have your AD contact Coach Herron and we will see if we can fit you into our schedule. In the meantime….quit with the whining….see you in the playoffs….maybe Northside will be lucky enough to draw the #2 seed from region 1 in the playoffs….then you will get your wish…..at Camden

Joe Joe, Fluke or no fluke, you cant say that yall tested Lowndes the most, when we beat them. I believe our loss to walton in the 2nd round of the playoffs was a fluke. I think we may have beaten them 8 out of ten games, but thats why we play the games. Lowndes may have beaten us 9 out of 10, but we got our one. On the right nite last year Harrison could have beaten anybody in the state. This year is a different story. We will have to work real hard for every win we get . .We have a better team concept, but not quite the talent we had last year. Camden has the fastest D i’ve seen in a while

To the Northside Eagle Rising guy who does seem to hate Camden’s existence for some reason, your schedule includes an out of state team that pretty much only plays inner city teams, and you metro teams cant compete with county teams. it also includes 2 AAA teams,,, and I thought Camden only played AAA teams lol. It is not hate against Camden County. To the defense of CCHS, they can not help their own geography. It is simply a matter of fact that the Savannah area schools have AAA enrollment and play up. It should be noted that the Savannah area schools are some of Georgia’s best basketball programs.
It is also a matter of fact that Northside has played a MUCH more challenging schedule than Camden County to date. Northside played the better team from Florida in Booker T. Washington (a nationally ranked program). Carver-Columbus is much better than Hoover (AL). Perry would beat practically every Savannah area school on any given day.
That is not hating Camden County. That is simply stating the fact. In Warner Robins, we know Camden County very well. On most occasions, CCHS is just another school that gets walked over by Warner Robins area schools in the state playoffs. Look it up yourself. Camden has struggled mightily against top flight competition. Ironically, Camen has yet to play any top flight competition. I know you guys have made an upgrade in your non-region scheduling. However, it is far from one of Georgia’s most challenging (see Northside).

Camdenfan, you can twist statements. It is a matter of fact that the Savannah area schools that litter Camden’s region schedule are indeed AAA teams. For that matter they are bad AAA teams that field very poor football teams. Programs like Savannah, Beach, Jenkins, etc. rarely have more than 30 of 35 kids on the entire team. That is Camden football: Beating up on bad programs and then losing in the state playoffs.
You guys lost to a 5 loss Warner Robins team (they went 9-5, which gets coaches fired in these parts) AT HOME in St. Mary’s a couple of years ago 27-7. That Warner Robins team was hammered by Northside. They even lost to Central Gwinnett HS! They were beaten by Tift County. They got cracked by Colquitt County. Nonetheles, they beat Camden in St. Mary’s easily. You boys have seen that movie before. Haven’t you?
Again, the kids who play for Camden can not do anything about their own geography. Camden can put together a schedule with some Jacksonville heavyweights. Instead, you guys play the likes of Lake City (FL) and Hoover (AL) and do cartwheels.
By the way, beating any metro Atlanta team does not get my respect. I would respect Camden County more if they were not regular roadkill year in and year out. Camden could schedule a Tift County. Camden could schedule a Lakeland (FL). Camden could schedule a Valdosta. Camden is afraid to do that. I know it and you know it too.

Sgt Chris, Houston County HS have a very good program. For some reason they have never really gotten over the hump. They are a very dangerous team. They have an excellent running back in Garrick Scott (arguably the best of all of the Warner Robins area backs) and they are always very, very big and physical.
They made a coaching change after last season. This should benefit them. For some reason their former Coach Johnson could not get the Ws in the big games against Northside (HoCo is winless over a decades against Northside). For a matter of fact, Houston County’s record is worst than Camden’s against Northside and Warner Robins.
Camden is 1-5 against the 2 powerhouse programs of Middle Georgia. Houston County is 1-18-1 against the Eagles (0-10) and Demons (1-8-1). I will be shocked if HoCo loses to Warner Robins and they are going to give Northside all that we can handle.

When I want your opinion I will ask for it. I have just as much right as you to post in on this blog, I doubt seriously if you have even been to a game this year!!!
If you read my post COMPLETELY you will see that my comments are directly mostly in the direction of the AJC and it’s LACK OF COVERAGE for ANY of the North Georgia teams!!!
But as I sit in the stands at EVERY game, and I have NOT missed a game in years, I always hear folks complaining about the complete lack of coverage, exposure, whatever you want to call it that the Raiders get. These kids work HARD to get where they are and they deserve a bit of recognition.
If I have to take a few shots from some uninformed posters I am more than thick skinned enough to handle that!!!
One thing I promise you is that WIN or LOSE I will be in here the next days posting again!!!
Oh and if you go back and reread my post…it was in QUESTION form and directed to TODD from the AJC. I was simply asking him WHAT IT WOULD TAKE for him to consider EAST for his poll. That is a fair question…
Also before you close a comment on a FOOTBALL blog with “Get a life”, you should realize how STUPID that sounds this time of the year. I LOVE football and on friday nights watch our raiders, on Saturday UGA & on Sunday NFL games!!!

Last year, 12-1 and quater finals, and off to a good 2-0 start this year. He has done this with average talent!! Coming off of two straight Tennessee State Championships before coming to East, he has proven his scheme works anywehere-Great Job and go Raiders!

Booker T. Washington is 1-2. BTW is without their starting all-state QB, who is their best player and they have played three state championship contenders in Olive Branch of Mississippi, Northside, and Florida powerhouse Central HS of Bradenton, FL (both Bradenton Central and BTW are MUCH, MUCH better than Lake City). There is a reason that BTW is 1-2 and still ranked nationally.
Now, let’s look at the Camden schedule of lightweights. Do you think the Camden coaches had any doubts about big and bad Norcross. Norcross is a figment of the AJC’s imagination of a powerhouse program. You and I know much better.
You are going to tell me with a straight face that Valdosta wins and falls out of the polls and a program of the likes of NORTH GWINNETT enters. This poll has lost creditbility.
In no way does Camden jump Northside due to Northside amazing strength of schedule thus far. I will remind you that we have Valdosta on Friday, followed by and undefeated Houston County team, and then Lowndes County. I about 18 days, Northside will have played more big games this season than programs like Camden and North Gwinnett have ever played in their entire existence.
Seriously. Name 2 nationally ranked teams that Camden County has ever played in one season. Name one undefeated team that Camden has played in region play. Northside plays undefeated region foe Valdosta Friday, potentially and currently undefeated region and city rival Houston County the following week, then nationally ranked and undefeated region opponent Lowndes.
There is no wonder Northside destroys opponents in the state playoffs. Our season is like a state playoff.

Sgt Chris, Hope you were able to attend the LG vs. Stephens Co game. LG has come a long way since Newnan. This game reminded me of the great LG teams of 2001, 2003 and 2004. Not to say that they are there yet. But, playing hard hitting LG football. I sat with quite a few Stephens Co fans. They were extremely courteous and respectful of LG. And, yes the game has opened up quite a bit. Still, Ocie is not 100% but played a courageous outstanding game. 2AAA is the best this year that I have ever seen. Troup has lost to 2 ranked teams by a total of 9 points without their starting QB. And has given up only 23 points in those 2 games.(Baldwin and Dunwoody). Shaw is 0-3. Amazing. Lost 3 games by a total of 26 points.(2 games lost by 1 point) Then there is Carver-Col. I honestly believe that 2008 LG has the potential to take it all the way. Guess we will see.

eaglenationrising, you love to mention wr beat camden in st marys and consider that dominance of middle ga. For one thing Camden High is in Kingsland and for another Camden came back a blasted WR in the GA dome in the very next game they played 30-0. Camden has played Valdosta and beaten them in the playoffs 3 times and got 2 of their coaches fired, Camden beat Tift County in last years playoffs, have beaten Colquitt, beat lowndes twice and Valdosta in 2003 to take the state crown, and the list goes on. You guys haven’t beat anybody outside of your county in AAAAA, stop bragging because everybody else is beating them too.

According to Rivals.com the stock of the Northside Eagles is going up. Of course, we all know that the Eagles are ranking in the influential USAToday poll (#20 last week). Somehow, the homers at the AJC drop Northside to #3 because Camden beats a bottom-feeding Alabama program. AMAZING!
Todd, how is Northside’s stock rising among pollster who follow the top programs in the nation, yet the Eagles stock is falling within the AJC poll gurus? Explain…because the Camden has played a tougher schedule argument is disingenuous and flat out false. You know it.
I have the answer. Camden beat (metro Atlanta LIGHTWEIGHT) Norcross, which gives them an edge and favor with the homers who litter the AJC’s high school site. Camden beats Hoover, who will be lucky to win one state playoff game in Alabama. Camden beats Lake City, who will not win a single playoff games in Florida (and may not even reach the playoffs). Yet, Camden’s stock is rising among the AJC.
BRILLIANT!
Dropping an undefeated Valdosta team behind not one but two Atlanta programs with losses is almost unethical. It is shocking to think that in this state that Valdosta goes undefeated and a team jumps over them because they were beaten by a program from South Carolina. That is called AJC spin to place an undeserving metro Atlanta program in the top 10 to sell papers. Todd, you are better than that.
For all the talk about Byrnes, I have been told that high school football fans should circle their schedules for October 3. That is when Byrnes plays Pahokee (FL) on ESPN. Word is it may get really ugly for the Byrnes Rebels. Perhaps, the Byrnes effect will subside with the homers from the AJC after Pahokee embarasses Byrnes on national television.
Northside is #2 and Valdosta is #4. AAAAA (A realistic view of the state of AAAAA football in Georgia) 1. Lowndes 1. Northside-Warner Robins 3. Camden County 4. Valdosta 5. Coffee 6. Newnan 7. Houston County 8. Grayson 9. IT DOES NOT REALLY MATTER BECAUSE ONE OF THOSE TOP TWO PROGRAMS IS WINNING THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP (and Todd knows it). 10. IT DOES NOT MATTER BECAUSE IF ONE OF THOSE TOP TWO PROGRAMS DOES NOT WIN, THEN NUMBERS 3-7 WILL WIN IT. Grayson at #8 is strictly for the purpose of selling newspapers.

Todd Holmcolm……..I’m not a big fan of preseason or early season polls ,but I’m gonna jump in here ….I’m not here to complain about Camden jumping NSWR…. A NSWR offense mustering up only a single Td ! (not since 2005 Statesboro championship game ), and Camden is a class act regardless of strength of schedule or region they play in…No problem with the jump….But you really got some “splainin” to do in dropping 3-0 Valdosta totally out….It’s way to early in this young season for such a move. If anything You should have given Jonesboro the benefit of the doubt having only played two games this season before making Valdosta pay.

EagleNationRising,
The only thing Camden can do about their region schedule is play it. And get your facts straight between Camden and region 1 schools. Yes, Warner Robins killed us in 2006, but since 2002, we have a winning record against region 1. In 2002 we beat Lowndes in the regular season and Valdosta in the playoffs. In 2003, we beat Lowndes twice and beat Valdosta to win state. In 2004, we beat Colquitt and got our butts kicked by Lowndes in the semifinals. In 2005, we beat Valdosta in the playoffs. Last year, we beat the s* out of Warner Robins in the Corky Kell(the score does not reflect the beating they took) and beat Tift in the playoffs. If we could play in region 1, I gurantee we would take that opportunity. But I don’t think it’s Camden avoiding region 1, I think it’s region 1 avoiding Camden. Yes, our region sucks, but don’t judge us by our region opponents. I hope NSWR and Camden meet in the second round this year. It’s sure to be a hell of a game.

Camdenfan, has Camden ever come back to beat Northside? History reminds me that Camden is winless against Northside.
I believe that it should be respected that you guys won a state championship at Camden. That is great. Some might suggest (I will suggest) that the Valdosta program was on the decline and they entered that game with a somewhat average 11-3 record, which is FAR from a juggernaut in a state championship game. Since Valdosta lost to you guys their program has had two different head coaches and they are 28-19. In other words, Valdosta has not been very good, by Wildcast standards.
Conversely, Northside is 126-12 since 1998. Let’s not make the mistake of comparing Northside to the Tift Countys and Colquitt Countys or even the Camden Countys of the world. You guys are good teams. However, neither are Northside HS.
Camden beat a 11-4 team to win state and that team…the most decorated program in American history has gone 28-19 since. You can’t take away anyone’s state title. However, we can all accept that Camden is winless against Northside. I that will remain a constant in our lives!

ayy for real to eagle nation rising. how are you going to call out camden like you are big and bad?
lets see you bring up the game against warner robins a couple of years ago? and arent these rankings from 2008 not 2005. if your gonna bring up a couple of years ago lets just go back to 2003 when we were the best team in the state. and i dont want to hear anything if your gonna sit here and bring up a past team that has two or three starters still on the team.
ha your gonna sit here and say how week camdens schedule is and how strong region 1 is yet northside has yet to play a region game this year. and i will be the first one to laugh at you when u lose to another team other than lowndes. im not saying northside is not a good team because they obviously are or we would not be sitting here arguing.
“There is no wonder Northside destroys opponents in the state playoffs. Our season is like a state playoff.”
how are u saying this stuff when northside just moved up to region 5A and has yet to play a play off game in 5A
trying to say camden is sorry? HA thats the same thing that tift said, the same that grayson said, and the same that east coweta said last year. lowdnes was a better team than camden last year and the only TD lowndes scored was a trick play half back pass. go to youtube.com and type in greg reid and see what he and lowndes did to everyteam in the playoffs and then see what they did against camden.? one play.. thats it.
alright and then to show camden will be better than they were last year. they lost major herron, aj mccray, and ryan seymour. those are the only three players that had a great contribution. when camden played norcross in the dome they had two starters that didnt play due to suspension. (ty booth, and lamar owens) people say camden lost there line but the backups are just as good if not better. i personally dont believe their is a beter defense in the state. with all respect to everyone.
what do you have to say to that eaglenationrising?
i got all respect for the teams, and all the teams but dudes gonna sit and complete dog a team he probaly hasnt even seen play this year.

I’m a carver graduate and i witnessed a team friday night that ran the ball up and down the field on northside all night long, unfortunatly for us we had a lot off penalties that i question. we need special teams because if we had kicked a field goal on at least one of the four times that we had the ball inside the 20 we would have easily won the game. Our defense is the best in 3aaa, you wont run the ball on them and the passing game isnt bad either. we will win our region and play off games, i dont know who we will play in the finals but who ever we play, they better bring there A-game. Northside will lose to lowndes and they better be careful against valdosta.

To Eagle Nation Rising,
We don’t even consider the pre Jeff Herron era into the equation (I hope that word is not to big for you) when evaluating the recent success of the Camden Football program. Since the 2001 season, Camden is 8-3 versus Region 3 in regular season and playoff games. The point that you made dismissing the championship game against Valdosta in 2003 is idiotic. First, Valdosta made the playoffs and beat everyone that they faced in the playoffs, except Camden in the Finals, which speaks volumes for that particular Valdosta team. Second, Camden beat Lowndes twice that year (and having watched both games, there is no doubt in my mind who the 2nd best team in the state was that year) Third, nobody was going to beat Camden that year.
In the same time period (starting with the 2001 season) How many times has Northside played Lowndes? (Answer is 0). While you guys were trying to decide which classification you wanted to be in (apparently the Parkviews and the Newnans were too tough) there have been some outstanding games played between Camden and Region 3 competition (which is, without question, the toughest region I have seen). We are happy to have you back in the AAAAA fold so that we may have the chance of meeting on the field, where everything is ultimately decided. As a side note, I don’t place much stock in national polls as they have different classes of teams all mixed up together and in general, the best 2A schools in the State are not going to compete with the best 5A schools week in and week out. In addition, the GaSports Coaches poll (which carries a little more weight in my book) has had Lowndes and Camden 1 and 2 all season. So quit with the whining already….it really does not become you or the excellent program that you are trying so hard to promote.

thanks for posting the Carver/NSWR stats which clearly should show all posters that NSWR ain’t what they claim, THIS YEAR. nobody has the same team so why waste time talking about “we beat your azz in 200picayear”. Carver clearly was the better team, save one missing thirty yard fieldgoal kicker. As to so claimed non calls on holding by Carver, it can be called on any offense on every down and we all know it. Also, the winning touchdown was called back for, you guessed it, holding. NSWR got lucky to get out with a missed extra point win, PERIOD. OVER RATED!!! slalom 1, you missed a good game. Leechampion hold on a minute……Right , clearly carver out gain us offensively , but winning is sealing the deal…..Even though carver ran up and down the field ,your offfense couldn’t get the ball across the goal line(without holding) ,or through the uprights for that matter …If we are overrated , what does that say for Carver who regularly scores in double figures for wins…..Clearly a champions defense showed up when they were needed….. As for the penalties being called on your kids…..to put it plainly , they were getting away with murder.I left memorial just wondering what the hell kind of ball is played here at this stadium . Hooking and driving to the ground , pushing in the back , grabbing jerseys ,tripping lol…..And the funny thing is you Carver folks think you were cheated ,In reality if your kids had played a clean game you would have won !, ….NSWR or the Refs had nothing to to with Carver losing .Your undisciplined foul play did ,you guys have got too many good athletes for this type of play.

I saw the Chamblee-Marist game and I support neither team. The pass interference that set up the Marist touchdown was perhaps borderline but certainly no phantom. It appeared to me that the defender bumped the receiver with his back turned to the ball. Perhaps if Chamblee’s coaching staff hadn’t taken such a conservative play calling approach it wouldn’t have been an issue. Possibly if Chamblee’s kicking game was on par with Marist’s it wouldn’t have been an issue. If you miss an extra point in a crucial situation, you deserve to get beat. Frankly I expected to see a lot more out of Chamblee than I got, so quit blaming the referees. Your team simply did not execute well enough to win the one region game that really mattered. Play the same way again, and you’ll lose to Tucker and SW Dekalb, too.

We go deep into the playoffs every year, lost to the eventuall State Champs last year,6-0 in the Kell classic with wins against Parkview, Brookwood,Walton,WR ,Norcross. The last time I checked Valdosta has not beaten us in years, The last 6 games between us and lowndes was 3-3. We petitioned the Ghsa to move to region 1 but nwas denied, WRNS better quit worring about the polls and win games to make the playoffsand then and only then we can settle this on the field. East Paulding has been underestimated very much. They have ignored all the jeering and put downs from many of you and play a hard nosed game. They are led by an outstanding coach in John Reid and his 26-3 record since he’s been at EP does prove that the Raiders have what it takes to be the new dynasty of Georgia. They do not deserve all of the criticism that people give them without even caring enough to see them play. The boys are very good and do not give up. I’m not sitting here putting down any other teams or saying EPHS will win everything, I’m simply stating that we can discuss high school football in a more adult manner, since I’m probably the closest age here to being actually in high school having just graduated. Everyone needs to respect other’s views and state their own arguements, let’s just enjoy discussing a great american past time.

Uh…..who is not respecting Camden? They are number 2 in the polls, they beat great competition last year in the playoffs, and they beat some pretty tough pre-season favorites in and out of state. Last year there was some smack talk about Camden but this year I think they earned respect. They will go very deep into the playoffs. So camden wildcat, only disrespect for Camden is starting to get is for whining fans. Hope you do not reprisent the typical fan in Camden.
Next statement, why do we bring up the past so much. What matters is current season. So many players come and go. Tradition is noteworthy but scores and records from last couple of years does not mean much when talking about this season unless a team brings back a mass of returners. I think Todd kind of bases his pre season poll on that and then rolls into the season based on performance and records.

To Camden supporters on this blog, no true Northside fan is disrespecting your team, though I do believe our schedule to this point and certainly beyond is tougher than yours. You have a great team and I hope we get to play you this season in the playoffs (in Warner Robins). As to rankings, after three games they really don’t matter, UGA can agree with that. I just want our team to get better, we’re giving up too many yards on defense and our offensive line is not opening the holes consistently. We’ve got Valdosta, HOCO, Lowndes, Coffee, Tift, and others to worry about, not Camden. If we can play Eagle football, the polls will take care of themselves.

JAYBO…I agree with what you are saying COMPLETELY…but look at it from our standpoint…You say win games that “count”…
OK…That’s all EAST has been doing the LAST 3 YEARS!!!!…They are 26-3 over this time period, losing ONLY 1 regular season game, going to the playoffs the last 2 years and winning the region by going UNDEAFEATED last year!
The AJC has Mays ranked #4 in AAAA and they came to “The Boneyard” all pumped up last year and found out quick who the REAL RAIDERS were!!!
Remember the LAST loss for EAST was your TCC guys and we both agree that was a TREMENDOUSLY talented TCC group of players, ya’ll were all but UNSTOPPABLE!!!
Anyway 2-0 this year again and we are enjoying both the games and being able to agravate Observer, Hoyadawg, and a few others…it’s all good clean fun!

re: Camden vs. Northside
As far as which has played the tougher schedule so far, I’d say Camden.
BT Washington is #5 in Florida’s AP rankings, and Columbia is #12. Slight edge to Northside.
But Hoover was the Class AAAAAA runner-up in Alabama and was ranked #3 in preseason. Camden was Hoover’s first loss. I’d take Hoover over Carver-Columbus. Edge Camden.
And I’d take Norcross over Perry. Edge Camden.

Thanks Todd for doing us a favor. You just motivated the valdosta wildcats to take it to northside Friday. The difference between 1AAAA and the rest of the scumbags is we play with emotions down here, so by you dropping us out of the polls only makes them want to prove you wrong. Camden County so you beat Hoover do your homework. Hoover is the Florida state of the ACC just like Camden you play in a weak region so it makes you look good Northside & Camden are the Hawaii of the WAC and you know what happen to Hawaii. You too North Georgia. As long as the trophy stays in Valdosta rather it is Lowndes or Valdosta IM Happy. Reeze, Terry Williams is the name of #36 at Grayson. He was starting LB last year Sophmore so we will see him next year. List of Juniors at Grayson is amazing. Standouts are CB #6, RB #24, LB #36, NG #94, and a wrecking machine #61. I would not be surprised if all the above numbers have letters to colleges already since they are starters from last years Elite 8 team. Those are just the standouts. There is another 7 or 8 players that are Juniors that I counted that get major playing time or start. This year will be great but next year, watch out. That is why I said the Junior class is backbone of the Rams.

Yea the Shaw Raiders are 0-3 , but they have played some very stiff competition with every team being in a higher classification. They were very competitive in all those games except the last one where they were shut out 24-0 by Coffee. They had 3 turnovers ..all of whick Coffee scored off of.I think that playing up will only help them. The lost some key guys on defense from last year..but they’re still a good team…that cannot be taken lightly. Lots of speedy guys at at the skill positions. They could posible be 0-4 heading into region play against LaGrange in 2 weeks. I’ll be attending that game and I think if they can keep it close they have a chance with the way they spread it out getting those speedy guys out into open space like they did last year against LG.I expect it to be a good game like always.Although I think the region championship will come down to Lagrange and Carver.I always like to read others opinions so if you have seen Shaw play this year..what do you think their chances are versus LG. in 2 weeks.

Todd missed mark on Grayson? Wonder why the coaches poll has Grayson listed 8th? I think the issue is they are playing some weak teams? Is Warner Robbins and McEachern weak? Region 8 AAAAA is pretty soft, so I bet they will sit there until the Brookwood and Parkview games are played.

SouthGaRules: Region 7 was divided this year. You are right-Collins Hill got a big break not having North Gwinnett on the schedule. Peachtree Ridge, Norcross and Mill Creek are on the back side of the schedule. Funny how Collins Hill and North Gwinnett are in opposite sides of the region but only 5 miles apart!

Time to stop talking about the last three years. You are in a new region and a new classification. When you have a 7 -3 or maybe an 8 - 2 year then you can crow. Maybe I should say you can rattle the bones at the boneyard. Right now talk is cheap. My guess is the raiders will be 6 -4, maybe 7 - 3. As mentioned, 7 - 3 you can crow a bit. 6 - 4? Nah!

No one is putting down the East paulding team or the kids. There has also not been any jeering directed toward them. All people are saying is those like Homet should let the play on the field talk and right now there have only been a few games played. EP has played and barely beat a AAAA team and then the beat perhaps the weakest team in region 5 -AAAAA. When EP can beat Harrison, Marietta, North Cobb, Etowah, etc then the respect some crave will be given.

Now: You indicate that the boys work hard and deserve attention, etc. Newsflash: Every team is working hard, Can you honestly tell me differently? Just let the season play out and see what happens.
As a side note: I’ve been going to the EP games for years as well. Only one I’ve missed was the regular season game in Rome game 3 years due to the rain.
Go Raiders: Load the Cannon!!! How do we get a portable cannon for the road games? Answer that one,,,love to hear it go off at Harrison in a few weeks.
Anyway,,no ill will really intended, just lighten up with the demands for attention. (I wasn’t only referring to your post on this weeks blog…..I’ve read them for quite some time and really think you need to leave it to the boys on the field, and let the media, do with it what they may)

Reeze, As far as Scott’s performance so far, he has done pretty much what he is capable of doing. I do believe it’s going to be difficult for him to raise his game much higher. As for replacing him, the question would be with who? I think Coach Nix can help him with shorter routes and more options to throw to in passing situations. The key is to avoid costly turnovers and win the field position battle. Northside’s defense has bent but hasn’t broken, hopefully it will improve too. We need more takeaways. This Eagle team is probably going to be involved in several close games this year, and turnovers could make the difference. As long as Scott doesn’t give the ball away, I think you have to stick with him. He’s done pretty well so far, but last week was concerning.

To: RealisticEP_Fan I know a number of folks looked into building a trailer with the thoughts of just that…Pulling the Cannon (or another cannon) to AWAY games…I was told that after checking into it we would not be allowed to have it in the visitors section. I could see it now pulling into the visitor’s side of the stadiums with the crowds that follow EAST and having an ENTIRE ship on a trailer, raise the cannon and CUT LOOSE!!!
I know I get on a “soap box” at times but the lack of AJC coverage for not just EAST but the entire Northwest Ga. area is irritating.

Jonesboro High School should be ranked, considering they were beating 5-A Valdosta up until the last quarter, when the punter fumbled the ball. Jonesboro held Valdosta to only 14 points. In spite of the 10-14 loss, Jonesboro is really good this year. Thomasville should NOT be ranked with their 0-3 record.

FROM TODD HOLCOMB: The coaches poll is out, and they also have North Gwinnett and Norcross higher than Valdosta, and Camden ahead of Northside. How ‘bout them apples?
Todd, you know that Georgia’s AAAAA classification has 73 teams in the state of Georgia. Of those 73 teams, 57 of those teams are metropolitan Atlanta teams. Todd those apples inform me that metropolitan Atlanta is hoping that just one of their underperforming programs could rise among the masses. You are like many people in metropolitan Atlanta. It would never surprise me that a few coaches moved their friends (and fellow Atlanta coaches) program above Valdosta, a program that is the envy of all high school programs in America.
Programs like North Gwinnett and Norcross have NEVER done anything on the field of play that would justify them being rated above an undefeated Valdosta team. Your rankings should be tied to your body of work on the field NOT because you play in metropolitan Atlanta. To say that the coaches (57 of 73 which work, live, and cheerlead for metro Atlanta programs) voted for two metro Atlanta teams to move from unranked to ranked doesn’t tell me anything. It doesn’t prove anything. It proves just how dilusional high school football fans in Atlanta are.
What tells me about metro Atlanta football is the manner by which programs like Norcross have simply folded in the state playoffs year after year after year.
There are small Georgia towns that have multiple schools with state championships (Valdosta & Lowndes have multiple state championships. Valdosta has National Championships…plural. Warner Robins and Northside-Warner Robins have multiple state championships. Like Valdosta, Warner Robins has National Champions…again plural). Valdosta is MUCH, MUCH better than North Gwinnett! There is no proof that Byrnes, SC would advance past the 1st round of the state playoff in Georgia. Furthermore, North Gwinnett lost.

“leechampion”, Hate having to miss the Carver vs. NSWR game, but did see the video replay.(not nearly as good as being there), but a hard fought game just the same. I agree that Carver appeared to win every aspect of the game except the score. But that is no excuse. The kicking game and special teams are part of the game. So are penalties. It appeared to me that Carver got away with lots of holding throughout the game, but still appeared to have the better athletes. NSWR won the game because they did not beat themselves. That is not a jab at NSWR. They were playing on the road against a VERY talented team along with “home grown” officials. Carver is a much better team than I predicted in pre-season. As for 2AAA it is early enough in the season to see a 4 team race: Carver, LG, Troup, and Shaw. Right now it would appear that Carver has the upper hand. But LG is coming on strong. Troup has lost their starting QB and is playing a freshman who passed for nearly 300 yds. last week against Dunwoody only to lose 14-7. The week before Troup lost to Baldwin 9-7, with their freshman QB making his first appearance. They are playing some awesome defense at Troup. With their starting QB, they could turn out to be the best. Then there is Shaw. They too are working in a new QB, and have played possibly the toughest schedule of anyone in 2AAA. Cannot rule them out. F.Y.I in 2005, Peach Co began the season 0-3, before winning the AAA state title.

Wildcatfan, I have played in Death Valley. I promise you that you will see a much, much louder and more hostile crowd when you travel to Northside. When your region was being represent by our other city two program, Warner Robins and Houston County (WRHS reached the state semifinals in 2006 and HCHS reached the state quarterfinals), Northside destroyed the top two teams from Region 1AAAAA.
Of course, Valdosta was disgracing themselves with a 1-9 record during that season. You probably had your eyes closed when you were getting hammered by practically every team on your schedule.
Everyone in this state (excluding the clowns who voted bottomfeeding programs like North Gwinnett and overhyped programs like Norcross over Valdosta) respects Valdosta. If you do not respect football in Warner Robins, you will by around 10 pm on Friday night.
Since 2006, Valdosta is 13-12 with 1 state playoff appearance. Since 1998, Northside is 125-12 with four state championship appearance and 2 state championships. Let’s be realistic about this. We are not Jonesboro HS, partner. Friday night will not be pleasant. I promise!

Metro Atlanta has almost 100 schools that compete in or have competed in the largest classification. Region 1AAAAA only has 8 schools and 5 of them have state championships. I guess I am overhyping Region 1AAAAA. You guys are hilarious! Throw in Camden County and you have 6 out of the 16 AAAAA programs in the state have state championships. 16 schools = 6 different programs with championships. Nearly 100 Atlanta schools = 9 different programs with state championships.

“SM”, If you are so concerned about the problems of the world, why are you here in the first place? I would think that a “do-gooder” like you might have something better to do with his valuable time than to spend it looking at a GHS football blog. Here is a clue: Get in your car. Fill the tank up with the least expensive fuel that you can find. Then TRAVEL to the hurricane area and LEND A HELPING HAND. Next: Make certain that you are a registered voter. You may not be. Vote for the candidate of your choice on election day.(You could actually spend some of your”high school blogging time” out campaigning for the candidate of your choice). As for the “commies” in N. Korea, that is a tough one. Do you speak Korean? If so, maybe you could write Kim Dong Ching Ming Ho a personnel letter asking him to turn into a nice guy and to free his people from bondage. Also, I understand that Kim is somewhat of an admirer of young girls who are not wearing very much to conceal their privates. Maybe you could bribe him with some photos. But, bottom line is: There is lots of work to be done. So, get off your fat duff. Go to Texas. Then Korea. Then tackle the BIG oil companies. In the mean time again I ask, “Why are you here?”

TJ: Warner Robins & MaEachern are both down. McEachern went 4-6 last year & their long time coach stepped down. Warner Robins is down despite a 2-1 record. They struggled with a weak Wheeler team in the opener & blasted a weak Beach team Saturday night. Grayson should have no problems until they play Brookwood. If they get past Brookwood, which they should (however, they have never beaten Brookwood in their history), they will be the #1 seed in Region 8-AAAAA. KPeagle: Thanks for the info. slalom1: Well said about SM. EagleNationRising: The hyping of Metro Atlanta schools has gone on for years. I can remember in 1973 when Wheeler faced Thomasville in the state finals & the smack coming from Atlanta was that they were going to teach these country boys about football. I believe Thomasville spanked them good that night led by William Andrews & won state the next year as well. Now Parkview has won 4 state titles 97,00-02 , Brookwood won in 96, SW Dekalb won in 95 & Dunwoody (with the M to M program) won in 93. Roswell & Peachtree Ridge shared in 2006. Basically, I agree with you that 1-AAAAA is the TOUGHEST REGION in the state. If you take Gwinnett schools out of the mix, the numbers are even more woeful. Cobb County has not had a STATE CHAMPION in OVER 40 YEARS. The last time a Cobb team was in the state finals was McEachern in 1998. God knows when Clayton County schools won state.

SouthGaRule, Harrison went to the state champ. game in 2000 , and lost 19-7 to parkview. But I cant argue, 40 years is a long time. The drought probally wii not be broken this year either. The arguement here though, is should they be ranked in the top 10, and the answer is yes unless there are 10 teams in the state that are better. I would take Walton and Harrison over Valdosta this year, last year, and the year before that.

Camden..even though it would be fun to have you in 1AAAAA, I for one don’t relish the idea of traveling to St. Mary every other year. I also think 1AAAAA competition is tough enough now that we have NSHS in the mix and I am just fine with you staying put. The kids need a break instead of week after week of serious non stop competition and you would just be another week of the same. See ya in the Dome as I have a feeling that you will be good enough to get back there this year. I still think it will be you and NSHS in a second round matchup at Camden for the right to play Lowndes in the state championship. Got to say that if Coffee keeps playing some defense I may have to rethink it a little though. Until I see more, I have to give Camden a “little” edge over NSHS should that matchup occur. This year any way. However, now that NSHS is one of our 1AAAAA brethren I would have to be pulling for them.

Here’s the surprise pick of the week. Carver-Atlanta over St. Pius. The first game against Mays, Carver underestimated Mays. I am a firm believer that if the two teams faceed each other 10 times, Carver would win 9. Mays is a good team. The score is not reflective of how close that game was. However, St. Pius is here. They are a good team, but we’ll beat them convincingly. They have discipline, and so do we. They have size, and so do we. We have talent on the perimeter, and they do not. That will make the difference. I say 21-10 NSC.

Just a couple of comments. Why make a big deal over GA beating S. Carolina last week. It’s not like S. Carolina is a big top 25 team. They even lost to Vanderbilt last year. (Sound familiar?)
Lowndes Is hosting Colquitt County (3-0) and their famous new head coach Russ Propst from Hoover High (AL). We had a tough game last week with Ware (we won 30-0) which followed a really tough game against PeaRidge the week before (Lowndes won 22-7) In S. GA we expect PeaRidge and Harrison to be there competing to see who plays Lowndes, N-Side WR, Valdosta, or Camden in the dome. Gwinnett teams are always over-rated.
Lowndes vs Valdosta in a few weeks will be on National TV on ESPN.

NSC, You are obviously disillusioned or have no choice but to support Carver-Atlanta. Did you attend the Mays vs. Carver game? The last time I checked, a score of 37-19 is a blow out. Were it not for a cheap kickoff return late in the game, the score would have been worse than that. How can you underestimate a team you have never beaten, particularly with the hype surrounding that game. If Mays and Carver played 100 times this year, Carver would lose 100 times, no doubt. Mays played in a very tough 6AAAA region the last couple of years with perennially powerful teams like Marist, Southwest Dekalb, Tucker, St. Pius and others, not in one of the weakest subdivisions in high school football as Carver did. Carver did not underestimate Mays, the mistake Carver made versus Mays was talking too much before the game about what they were going to do, rather than being prepared to do it. It seems that Carver is making the same mistake going into the game against St. Pius. There is no way Carver can beat St. Pius. Carver is just not tough enough.

mistermak….its much more fun to just blank you in the Dome every year. I was thinking of the miles to Kingsland, not worried about the football team. Having said that, playing you in 1AAAAA would be an added challenge and we already have enough challenges till playoff time. Plus you need to keep your regular season win streak alive (gives you something to brag about besides state championships) and you know that wouldn’t happen in 1AAAAA.

This not being critical of Camden but a fact. Camden’s Freshmen and JV teams get lots of game experience in preparation for them playing on the varsity team. This goes on year after year—- especially because they play Savannah Schools that should be in AA or AAA based on their population. Their varsity boys are well rested for the play-offs. Their bodies haven’t been beat up in league play. Camden plays 5-homes games this year against Savannah area schools (not their fault) Scores will range in the 60-7 throughout the year. It is more of Savannah schools wanting Camden to play them because they have great basketball teams and need Camden. Personally, I think the GHSA should allow Camden to play in 1AAAAA. Make the Savannah schools play no higher than the school that surround them like AAAA Statesboro, Wayne Cty, Glynn Cty, Brunswich, etc.

NCS,If you think the speed @NSC will determine the game,Carver will lose by 30 points.St.Pius has played Mays,Washington &SWD so speed want scare them. ST.PIUS will use that zone coverage as always.Carver will have to ST.PIUS with Demon Dennis and Myles JR. @ QB,now that present a problem.Control big Jamie Slaughter # 77.

Toughness is not lacking on CARVER- ATLANTA’S side of the ball…these boys are hungry, and as a Carver student i can tell you that they did underestimate Mays big time and it costed them…CARVER ATLANTA would blow Mays out if we could play them again…i think we will win because we will go out there and play like the under dogs and not like the cocky team we were at the beginning of the season…and because our running back Demond Dennis (#24) is UNSTOPPABLE…we made alot of changes for the better…Watch #71 on the D-line( He’s a beast) and how can u forget Darren Myles Jr. (#3).

Lets talk about North Gwinnett vs. Norcross. who is the winner there? Dont have to talk about Grayson, just soooo tired of hearing about Camden. They are great, yes! they are in a weak region, yes! wish they we OK already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NG vs. Norcross should be the best game this week!!! What are your thoughts?

SouthGARules: Morrow won the AAAA title in 1987, with Howard and Hastings putting on a show every Friday night. They were the last Clayton school to even sniff playoff success, I believe. Lovejoy looked good for a while but regularly lost in the 1st or 2nd round.
Harrison actually played for it in 1999, not 2000.

Graysonfan2, just quick comment on weak region 8 AAAAA. There are 3 teams that are not weak. I think Grayson could compete in any region, including 1 AAAAA—I said compete, not win it all—take it easy South GA. I never count Brookwood out, no matter how bad the team is, those coaches will make a run.
N.G. vs. Norcross. I give the nod to N.G.. Too many weapons on offense and that defense has enough athletes to give anyone fits. They are young but they are good.
I am not sold on N.S. Warner Robins yet. I think they lose to Valdosta and Lowndes in region 1 AAAAA. I say they have not played a strong enough AAAAA game to guage them yet. They are overated. Anyone else feel that way?

How can a game be any bigger than this week’s Lowndes vs Colquitt game with Colquitt’s new world famous coach? Both teams are 3-0. 2nd best game this week will be N-Side Wr vs Valdosta.

Slalom1… I totally agree with you about Shaw having possibly the toughest schedule in 2AAA. I’m an employee at Shaw and I remember when they were putting the schedule together they had a very difficult time scheduling non-region opponents. Well that’s what they came up with… no one is complaining..just playing hard. Personally I think it’s only making them better. I also agree with you about not counting them out. I attended the first game against 6A Central(AL.) and they looked very good except for the breakdowns in the defense. They put up 33pts. against a good defense. You mentioned the new QB. This guy has been doing a pretty good job. He ‘s quick, tough and very athletic and when it’s not there he can take off. We have another tough one this week against 6A Standhope Elmore(Al.)and then we open up region play against LaGrange on Sept 26. I expect this to be a very good game. (Shaw v/s LG)Shaw has lots of speed at the running back,QB and receiver positions and very good DB’a also. They also run the spread offense. Last year all the talk was about LG’s defense only giving up 6pts prior to playing shaw and Shaw put up 25pts before halftime. Shaw has the same offense except for the center, qb and one part-time running back. This one will be very interesting and lots of fun to watch. I’ll be there.Shaw could possible be 0-4 at by that time ..but LG must not take them lightly.

The biggest game in the state of Georgia is Northside (#20 in the nation in the USAToday poll) versus Valdosta, the winningest program in American history.
Lowndes County has established themselves as a big dawg in Georgia football. No one can debate that. Valdosta is obviously the big dog. Northside with a 125-12 record over the past decade and back-to-back state championships is also a beast in the world of Georgia football.
One school does not belong in this group. That would be Colquitt County. CCHS does not have a top 5 record, history, and tradition within their own region.
Give us a break AVikingFan. The winningest football programs in Region 1AAAAA are Valdosta, Warner Robins, Lowndes County, Northside-Warner Robins, and Tift County.
How can a game between Lowndes and a team that is not even a top 5 tradion rich program in their 8 team region be the biggest game in the state? You are sounding very much like some of these Atlanta posters pretending that there is actually football tradition up here in Atlanta. Colquitt is a good little program. They are not a state power.
Two state powers meet in Warner Robins on Friday night when the Eagles face the Wildcats. Let’s get real.
If you are willing to debate this, I would happily direct any poster to the overall records and traditions of teams in Region 1AAAAA, where Colquitt County is FAR from the top.

TJ, any proclamation of “athletes” at North Gwinnett points to some creditibility issues for your words. NGHS could not even keep up with Byrnes, who I have valuable information would not even be a top 10 team in Georgia. I have heard that Byrnes is probably going to get blitzed at home by south Florida’s Pahokee HS (who is only 2-1). NGHS is only ranked because they are an Atlanta school and they lost to an overranked Byrnes, SC team. If you believe that SC high school football is anything like GA high school football, you are fooling yourself.
People were not sold on Northside when we blitzed Marist. I remember chatter about lowly Collins Hills beating Northside. There is no metropolitan Atlanta school that can beat Northside or a number of other top programs in Georgia.

To: “EagleNationRising”,When you throw out numbers and dis Colquitt Co for not having the winning percentages and championships as WR and NSWR, what you should be doing is counting your blessings for not having played in Region 1AAAAA until 2008(NSWR). Otherwise, your team would have had to answer to either Lowndes, Valdosta or Tift EVERY year, just like Colquitt Co has done. And, they have done quite well historically considering the competition they face year in and year out. It has been said on this blog many times before, but Region 1AAAAA is indeed the SEC of high school football. If you are fortunate enough to win 1 region title per decade, that is not too bad given the competition. WR has already felt the heat. NSWR is about to. Not dissing either of these 2 programs. They are strong. But neither have played against the caliber of teams in regular season prior to joining 1AAAAA. Good luck to both.

To: “ShawRaider”, Right now I see this Shaw team sort of like a wounded animal. VERY dangerous. Could easily be 2-1 rather than 0-3. Also played some very good teams. Think I mentioned this yesterday, but in 2005 Peach Co started the season 0-3, then went on to win the AAA title in dominating fashion. As for LG, in 2007 they were young but talented. Took Shaw for granted and got embarrassed. I believe the Raiders will be there when it counts the most.

To: leechampion”, 2AAA is tough to figure out. Most would say that Carver is the favorite. The Top 4 in 2AAA are easy : Troup, Shaw, Carver and LG.(not necessarily in that order). But look at who they have played: Carver-Tri-Cities and NSWR. Troup-Baldwin and Dunwoody. Shaw-Central Phenix City and Coffee Co. LG-Newnan and Stephens Co. That amounts to a total of 6 Top 10 teams in 3 games. And all 4 teams are playing with “new” QB’s”. Troup has been playing a freshman since Game 1 and still could have easily won over Baldwin and Dunwoody. When they get their starting QB back, they could be mighty tough to beat. Gave up 9 to Baldwin and 14 to Dunwoody.(Dunwoody put up 47 or 48 points on AAAA Griffin who was ranked at the time). It is about to get interesting.

To:” The Newnan Football Nation”, You guys have got to be proud and excited about this 2008 Cougar team. I believe they are fabulous. Capable of going all the way. I made a bold prediction following the LG loss to Newnan: “Nobody else in the regular season will play this Newnan team as close as LG”. So far, this prediction has held up. 35-3 and 55-6. In looking at the rest of Newnan’s schedule, I stand behind my prediction. Here are the teams: Morrow, Creekside, Riverdale, West Lake, Pebblebrook, Mundy’s Mill, and East Coweta. This is how it will probably go:(“bloodbath” means the mercy rule) Morrow-“Bloodbath” Creekside-Newnan by 28, Riverdale-Newnan by 35, West Lake-Newnan by 35(LG dominated West Lake in pre-season),Pebblebrook-Newnan by at least 35, could be a “bloodbath”, Mundy’s Mill-“Bloodbath”, East Coweta-(this one could be a little bit closer) Newnan by 28. This domination in the regular season could mean problems in the play-offs. Hope not. Newnan is long over due, and this team has what it takes. Pulling for the Cougars.

Carlos: Thanks for the info about Morrow. I had forgotten about them.
Graysonfan2: Regarding North/Norcross, I know the game is at North. However, I give the nod to Norcross. I know that North has a pretty good offense with Tamburo & their defense is outstanding, but Norcross has beat them the last 2 years to keep North from winning the region. I look for a low scoring game, because Norcross has as good of a defense as North does. Look out for #56 Hollingshead for Norcross. He & #13 spent as much time in Mill Creek’s backfield as the backs did for Mill Creek. I look forward to the game & plan to be there Friday night.

Slalom1,
I am not dissing any Region 1AAAAA team, they are all good teams and certainly the region is the best football in the state. However, the attitude that seems to be prevailing from those associated with Region 1AAAAA is that there is little or no acknowlegement of the accomplishments of Northside football. Your statement that Northside is about to find out about 1AAAAA football is true and we look forward to the education. However, don’t put us on the same level as Warner Robins and Houston County, as so many of you seem to want to. Northside has dominated those programs for years, even when WR and HOCO had successful seasons in 1AAAAA. Does that mean Northside will dominate 1AAAAA—no. But it does mean we have a squad that is eager and hungry to make their mark. And that begins this Friday night with Valdosta. So to those who aren’t impressed yet, fine. I am confident our young men will impress all of you.

Wildcat fan, you need to take a second look. You’re dissing Northside for only scoring one touchdown on Carver. Carver is a great team, regardless of classification. A defending state champ. Ask the highly regarded Cairo Syrupmakers about Carver. If Valdosta had made that trip to Columbus last week instead of playing (and barely beating) a weak Jonesboro team at home, I believe you would have been spanked. Northside, on a short week after thrashing Florida champ BTW, beat a very good Carver team in their crib, and now we get you in ours. It’s gonna be fun.

Wildcat Fan, I think Alan answered your question when you suggested NSWR beat a little old AAA Carver team 7-6. While Valdosta hit a home run by beating Jonesboro at home 14-10. Funny! Now, here you are a wildcat fan saying how Valdosta was going to beat NSWR. “BUT” if they did not—in the next two weeks Lowndes would. Man that is some loyalty to your wildcat team. Dude, name any team in Georgia who will not be an underdog to Lowndes. If NSWR lost to Lowndes, so what. That is suppose to happen based on every poll. However, NSWR will fight all 48 minutes.

SGT CHRIS: It could be that Parkview has not been significant since the Corky Kell Classic in 2006 when Warner Robins made road kill of them 30 to 3. It’s hard to run smack when you are a #3 or #4 seed in a weak region and get bounced in the first round of the playoffs. The program has fallen off & the coach had some off the field issues. One excuse that can NOT be used is losing students to new schools. Parkview has not been affected by new schools opening in Gwinnett.

To EAGLE NATION RISING: I guess my comments about the Lowndes vs Colquitt game were inspired in part because of the reputation of Colquitt’s new coach and their 3-0 record. And I also believe Colquitt County has played in more State title games than N-Side WR has. You sound a whole lot like Grayson fans! If you beat Valdosta AND Lowndes AND Coffee AND Colquitt County, you still have to get by Camden County before you an go to the dome. That’s a tough row to hoe!

Slalom…Lowndes will beat Colquit…just don’t know how good Colquit is at this point. We will all have a much better idea come Saturday morning. I can guess a score for you and at this point it would be an uneducated guess. The only team to score on Lowndes thus far was Peachtree Ridge in the 3rd quarter in Lowndes first full game for their 1st string defense. They were obviously tired in the 3rd quarter and Peachtree was physical enough to take advantage of it. I don’t see Colquit scoring on our first string defense. I will give them 7 in the 4th quarter. I’m guessing Lowndes wins 35-7. Valdosta and NSHS. NSHS will win 21-14. I think Valdosta has been saving itself for this game, but they will not have enough. I’ll take Coffee over Houston. The undefeated streak of 3 of those 6 schools ends this week. Tift wins the battle of 1 loss schools over Warner. Much to my surprise, Warner is starting to look like the weak link in the region.

Hey Hoyadawg, thank you for getting it!!!!! You saw all of the trash mr wuss(eastbeast) talked on here last year and when TCC thumped east paulding with ease, he didn’t have the guts to get on here and simply say “congrats, we got dominated!!!” No, but he has been running and hiding ever since…then try to slide onto the blog thinking I’m no going to call his ‘lil weak azz out!!! So thank you Hoyadawg for your understanding. Even eastbeast’s fellow EP fan Homet understands. Now to you eastbeast, let me tell you a couple of things about me and you…1. I played the game of football in high school, college and in the pros 2. My grammer is usually good, but I’m not on here writing like I’m doing a term paper in college, which leads me to point 3. Yes, I am a college grad, in fact I hold a masters degree. However, that doesn’t mean that I will always spell every word correctly!! Now let me tell you a few things I know about you…1. You are young and immature(prob late teens, early twenties if that) As I have been trying to tell you, real men man up!!! 2. You are really a fearful young man trying to sound tough by telling me to come to a EP game—trust me, you wouldn’t want me to do that!!!! Furthermore, I’m muuuch bigger than that…it aint that serious and I have waaay to much to lose!!!! Your antics just prove that you want to sidestep the issue(TCC crushed EP after you started talking trash to me. Really, this could be and should be a mute issue by now) 3. You never played football—I see too many signs of weakness. There is nothing about you that screams “STUD!!!!” Its clear that you don’t know the game of football! 4. You deserve some credit, because you really do get under my skin!!!! LOL!!! Finally, grow up kid and be a real man like Hoyadawg and my friend Homet(a serious EP fan I might add)! Homet and I have had some real boxing matches on this blog and will probably have some more. But he manned up last year(although it was hard for him at first—sorry Homet, LOL), and I have much RESPECT for him for doing that!!! Take lessons from these guys eastbeast, and you will gain the respect of others on this blog!!!

EagleNationRising and Alan, N.S. Warner Robins has yet to play a AAAAA team yet this season? Am I wrong? Perry is AAA, Booker T. is AAAA, and Carver is AAA. Hard to guage if their potential in AAAAA if they have not played a AAAAA team. And statistically Carver won that game. I look forward to this Friday to get a good guage on their ranking. Until then, they are over-rated in my opinion!
North Gwinnett held their own vs. Byrnes in the first half of that game because of their defense. They have enough athletes on defense to hold off Norcross to win the game. Offense for N.G. is the best Defense also. So, N.G. will have to outscore Norcross in a shootout. N.G. has the edge with home field and spread offense. N.G. is good enough to win region and will only survive 1st or 2nd round of playoffs. Same with Grayson. There will be no Gwinnett teams around in the 3rd round of playoffs.
Gwinnett schools considered Atlanta? I do not think a hour or more drive from Atlanta constitutes the label of Atlanta school. Different football in Gwinnet County than the rest of State. I did not say better, worse, I said different. Can not wait for people to misinterpret that statement.

NO WAY Camden County fans Look at this at the top 100 high school in amercian
38 Northside School Warner Robins GA 3-0 37 @ Valdosta Stock Rising The Eagles won a battle with Carver-Columbus this week 7-6. They will play host to Valdosta this week in a Peach State showdown. 39 Montgomery Bell Academy Nashville TN 4-0 34 @ Pope John Paul II MBA has not been playing inspiring football with another nailbiter win against Hillsboro.
40 West Monroe West Monroe LA 1-0 41 vs Byrd West Monroe has some things to prove in Louisiana this season, and they started off in the right direction with a 43-0 victory over Huntington. 41 St. Ignatius Cleveland OH 3-1 40 @ Washington - 9/26 Stock Rising St. Ignatius took it to Mentor 28-14 this week and made a huge jump in the poll. They still have La Salle and St. Xavier on the schedule. 42 Madison Madison FL 1-0 66 vs Suwanee Stock Rising We sure wish we could have seen Madison play Independence (NC) but if the Cowboys keep hanging half-a-hundred on opponents it will be hard to keep them out of the Top 50. 43 Skyline Dallas TX 3-0 50 vs Plano East A huge win this week over Arlington Bowie solidfies the spot for Skyline. Back to back home games with Plano East and Highlands would make for a great 4-0 record if they can get the wins. 44 Maryville Maryville TN 4-0 48 vs Powell Different week same story, Maryville dominated another East Tennessee team beating Heritage 38-7.
45 South Pointe Rock Hill SC 3-0 68 @ Fort Mill Stock Rising In their first measuring stick game the Stallions ran all over Clover, on the road, for a 35-7 victory.
46 Camden County Kingsland GA 3-0 NR @ Windsor Forrest Camden rolled up 386 yards on the ground, including 187 from senior back Greg Baker in the 44-16 win over Hoover (AL).

Camden had a great team. Northside WR has a great team.
But the path to the crown still goes through Lowndes. If the way they played Ware county is any indication….they are still tough and anyone playing them is going to war and better bring their A game.
Not sure why Valdosta dropped out.Seems not right. I suggest the V cats use that as motivation the rest of the way.

TO: “Dorene”, Always great to hear from a football “Mom”. You must be very proud of your son. As you are probably aware, I have spent most of my life as your neighbor to the south, LaGrange. Some of my best friends are from Newnan, and I have always respected not only the legendary football program at NHS, but the people as well. One could say that Newnan is my second home. But, getting back to NHS football, they are long over due to win the BIG one. This could be their year. But, the competition is gonna get mighty tough come play-off time. I believe that this Cougar team is the best I have ever seen. But, the competition is also the best. Good luck to the Cougars.

it does not take an hour to drive to anywhee in gwnntt from Atl. Football throughout the state has great ball,, and sub-par ball depending on paticipation and support. Coaching is the key to great programs. it appears that Grayson is very well coached. I for one think Coach Franklin Stephens of Tucker is as good as it gets and hope he stays till retirement.
i can hardly wait for the aftershock that carver Atl is about to feel after facing St.Pius. “(not afraid of whiteboys)”- -by far the dumbest statement i’ve ever read on these blogs. Junior Raymond Sanders avg 113yrds p/game @ Stephenson,,, yet anothe Tucker Football League product. Keep an eye on Devin Scott @ Tucker despite Jonathon Davis/Drayton Calhoun.

TO: “SGT CHRIS”, Interesting that you brought up Callaway. I believe they are the most under rated team in AA. Lost to Troup 15-7 and that was with Troup playing with their #1 QB. Look at what Troup has done since while playing a freshman QB: lost to Baldwin 9-7 on a desperate final second play. Lost to Dunwoody 14-7. Meanwhile, Callaway has taken care of business. They have a great young coaching staff with lots of talent on the field. A young running back who is fabulous. He is a “Bray” i.e. Jason Bray, Justin Bray, etc. Keep in mind that Spencer has a pretty good team this year. Lost to Carver-Col 31-0. But, no shame. It will be interesting to compare Callaway’s performance against Spencer vs. Carver’s.

Raider from the start, You are right, about making the week go faster, that is exactly what this blog does for me. I’m just having fun, and pulling some strings. Jaybo, I do like your physco. evaluation of Eastbeast. Homet , yes I am a little. worried about the wheels on the cannon. not so much the cannon as the people attempting to move it . On a football note 4th is too high for Harrison in the Massey poll, there are a few teams behind , that we might have problems with. There are a few teams in our region that I am concerned with. The Mceachern/ EP Game should tell us more about EP. That would be a fun game to go to. Now they have a rivalry going after all that Jv stuff. ” load the cannon”

TO “YO”, Are we having fun yet? Like you, I am not certain what Colquit has. But, so far so good. At least better than 2007. Lowndes wins, but it could be interesting. You probably have the prediction about right, as well as most of the other 1AAAAA teams. However, I do believe that WR will win over Tift. And, here goes: VALDOSTA over NSWR. The winning streak stops here. WELCOME TO REGION 1AAAAA! The NSWR offense looks weak. Valdosta wins a CLOSE one. Maybe 10-7.

Northside has all the pieces for an outstanding team except one problem. They don’t have a good starting QB. He has guts but he is slow of feet, marginal as a passer, and not a good field general. He plays likes a 10th grader in training. He has already reached his full potential as a senior. He is a good back up—-just not starter material. Coach Nix likes him although he has at least three boys that came to NSWR as QB’s. Not counting them, the best hope for now lies in a 10th grader that has potential but would be a better safety or wide receiver. I guarantee you when NSWR loses it will come from poor play at QB. I observe them in practice although I am a Peach County fan.

To trojan camden county has played schools from your region and has a winning record against them over the last seven years including lowndes, we beat lowndes twice in the regular season and valdosta for the state champioship. we beat a very good tift team in the playoffs last year. you guys play in a very tough region but camden has play team from that region on a regular basis. if you checked camden has petition the state to play in region 1 but was voted down by the coaches, citing travel times for other sports, do you really believe that. in that region what has any teams besides the two teams from valdosta has any other team done. coffee, tift colquitt, has not been any stud teams themselves.look at our record against your rgion and tell me we could not compete. we may not win the region every year but we will make the playoffs every year. thats good the coaches voted it down it they didnt your trjans probably would not make the playoffs. because you barely make it anyway, your region is tough but we can win in that region as well

Peach Pride………Wow! You must have been reading my mind .He’s a good decent kid , and as you stated ,He has reached his full potential…..As I see it the coaching staff has work to do….The past decade with Chansi Stuckey ,Ferlando Williams ,Jacobi Rodriguez and Marquez Ivory under center running the NSWR offensive Machine there was never a problem implementing and executing plays….I think they relize now that they’ll have to curtail the offense and keep it pretty much basic for Scott. The season will ride on the defense’s back pretty much…..How did you guys game go against Baldwin?…I know Baldwins defense is off the chain….How Baldwins offense?

Dekalb football: Hasn’t gotten any press coverage, but Devin Scott is out for the rest of the regular season with an ankle injury he suffered in the second quarter of the Lakeside game. Tucker has now lost three starters… Deion Roberson is their top defensive lineman; went down in the first minute of the Brunswick game. The coaches are hoping now to sneak thru the region schedule and get decent seeding for the playoffs with everyone healthy, but right now that #1 ranking is looking pretty soft. If they can put away Miller Grove Friday and win 2 of 3 against Marist, Chamblee and SW dekalb, we’ll see what happens, but a 4 seed would likely put them up against Mays in the first round of the playoffs… that’s a long way off but hardly anyone would look forward to that.

To all of you bloggers interested in why I keep calling you know who out(eastbeast)—I really dont even want to type his name—you have to understand the history I have with his weak azz!! I discovered something the other day—you can go do the sports blog archives and see it for youself!!! It was the week of Nov. 26-Dec.1 2007. Eastbeast and EP senior 08 started talking smack big time. Well you know what happened in the game between TCC and EP. EP senior 08 ate crow, came on the blog and faced the music like a real man, but no such thing from eastbeast. He ran into hidding and never showed his face again until this season and has yet to acknowledge that he didn’t face up and fess up like he should have. Anyway, go into the archives and read it for youself and I promise you you will get a good laugh from it. You will also clearly see the reason why I keep riding this trash talking, running, and hiding weakling!!! And why I want to expose the weakest fan on this blog!!! Reeze, We got beat! I am not so sure if the kids believed Baldwin could beat them. For the last month all talk has been on revenging a lost to Perry last year. Silly! Baldwin is tough—they just kept pounding us until we broke. I notice Peach has a problem with coming from behind. Well, we have a two weeks break to get it right. Baldwin will open some eyes. Carver has better be careful. Good luck to NS tommorow. Wildcat Fan is giving you guys a hard time on the blog. He may have to eat crow. (I hope).

Something about Byrnes vs. North Gwinnett… at the last 2 minutes of the first half, NG’s Dixon rushed for 83 yards against the No. 1 team in the nation!! Nation…! Why is everyone hating on Gwinnett? North Gwinnett made it farther than Valdosta in the playoffs, didn’t they? They beat Brookwood and Walton twice, each amazing wins. Consider this!! North Gwinnett has a brand new defence!! Like only one returning starter for NG… and yet they are still a good team. They are not overranked, they are ranked in the top ten in every poll. I respect Valdosta, but for the people who are begging for more respect to Valdosta are putting down North Gwinnett and their respect. All teams deserve respect. And again, let me remind you that they were 13-2 last year and were 24-4 in the past two years, I mean that is pretty good, and it’s history making for North, who has never been to the Dome or the State Championship. This year, just watch NG—meaning their scores, read things about them. They are good.

Why now love for Campbell ever on this site or in the AJC. They are a quick, undersized team with great heart. After Toney Willams was featured on here 3 weeks for running through a horrible Chattahoochee defense and declared some kind of enormous talent, (he is pretty good) Campbell stuffed him for 98 yards. Last week they played Walton deep into the 4th quarter only trailing by 7 until running out of gas late while the starting QB was playing with a fracture in his arm. This week I smell an upset at Lassiter with a back up QB who has a canon for an arm. If they beat Lassiter with a back up QB who just started playing QB a year ago, can you please, please write up some news bout that!!!!!! Lassiter has a really good TE, prolly top 5 at that position in state, but I believe Campbell D is quicker and will make some big plays.

I agree completely that going into that stretch with a 4-0 record will be a strong showing for EAST and YES to do that requires them to beat McEachern tonight and Marietta (at Marietta) next week!!!
This is where the hard work pays off, the “fun” gets serious and let’s see who wants it the most!!! As always be safe…but listen…Marietta fans, Etowah fans, North Cobb fans, Harrison fans…that rumbling in the distance you hear…IT’S NOT THUNDER!!!…JUST CANNON FIRE GETTING CLOSER!!!

Not to throw salt in anyones game, but although Valdosta is undefeated I dont think they are near the old Valdosta standard, they really havent played anybody. NSWR will probably beat them by 2 tds or more then thump there chest about how much of a beast they are. They wont be tested until they play lowndes in their region. so get get ready from more trash talk from NSWR fans after tonight, they will be silenced in a few weeks though.

To footballfan, I believe you are losing your nerve like Wildcat Fan. You are not so sure Valdosta will beat NSWR. Like him and many others, NOW you are relying upon Lowndes to beat NSWR. As I noted earlier, ANY team that plays Lowndes will be an underdog. If NSWR loses to them—so what! They would have lost to the BEST. Keep in mind, no team is going keep on winning forever. Well, well VSU blazer(EP senior 08), good to hear from you! Hey those classes down there must be rocking your brain young man!!! Stick with your studies and leave football commentating to someone who knows the game—-JAYBO!!! Let me tell you why I say this Blazer—-You see when a team gets dominated and blown off the field and on the score board you can’t attribute that to home field advantage(any football guru will tell you that). That just means the dominating team was much better. Now if the game is close you can say the home team won, you can play the home field advantage card! You are an intelligent youn man Blazer, so I know you can comprehend this. TCC blew out EP, so you cannot play the home field card sir! Anyway, congrats on being in college…enjoy yourself, but study first!!! LOL!! Take care and good hearing from you!

It’s funny how certain people on here were trash-talkin’ Northside about their AAAA state titles and saying just wait until you have to play in 1-AAAAA. Now that we kicked Valdosta’s butt, we now hear that Valdosta was over-rated anyway, and just wait until Lowndes gets Northside. Lowndes is a great team and should be favored (they are ranked #1, after all), but we’re not scared of them or any other Region 1 team. Lowndes may win but they will know they have been in a fight. Northside won’t roll over for them like Colquitt Co. We’ve got to take care of business and beat a good Houston Co. team next week, so Lowndes isn’t on our radar screen for another week anyway. So, for now, how ‘bout some chest thumpin’ for the Eagles, and we are glad to show 1-AAAAA what Northside football is all about!

HOYADAWG…Well it wasn’t pretty but what counts is the final score…EAST PAULDING 17 & McEachern 14!!!
East made WAYYYYYYYYYYY to many mistakes tonight, throwing an interception on their own 10 or 12 yard line that 2 plays later McEachern scores a TD on, then moving all the way down the field with nice plays only to fumble inside the 3 yard line and give the ball BACK the the Indians.
Hats off to McEachern…they brought their “A” game and played HARD ALL night! They got some BIG kids on the line and a VERY fast quarterback! HOYADAWG if this kid is their BACKUP as you say, they got NOTHING to worry about he CAN PLAY!
HUGE CROWD was at “THE BONEYARD” for this game and I think we stayed on our feet most of the night. This is what it is all about, but at the end THE CANNON HAD FIRED JUST ENOUGH and the scoreboard showed that the “village” known as McEachern had fallen to the RAIDERS from EAST!!!
Next up the Marietta Blue Devils…the invasion continues thru the villages of Cobb…that’s not thunder Marietta, that’s cannon fire getting closer each day!!! GO RAIDERS!!!
So right now EAST can enjoy being 3-0 in 5A AAAAA play and 2-0 in the REGION…

Not to belittle NSWR,but Valdosta had not really played anybody till last night. They were 3-0 for that reason, just like Colquitt was 3-0 for the same reason. Now is when the rubber meets the road and we find out who has got game. If Lowndes continues to get better each week as they showed last night, I don’t see anyone beating them this year. They have outscored 166-7 in four games and even the jv defense holds most first string offenses. If they continue this way they will be back to back Stae Champs.

I just want to say, Im not a Norcross nor a North Gwinnett fan, but what happens to Norcross in the second half of a game is killing them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so excited to see Camden play at the Dome, seeing what a great team they were last year against Grayson in the third round. At first Norcross was handling them, the second half came and Camden dominated. I was at the Grayson game tonight, but heard the score after the first half and thought hmmmm maybe Norcross will hand it to them, but noooooo they fell apart again in the second half. I dint know if it is true or not, but what ive heard what makes a second half team is almost death ridden practices. SO I say, Norcross coaches need to step it up a couple notches at practice. Hope its not to late in the season for them. If you guys could play a whole game like you do in the first half, you could take it all!

Recap on the Grayson game.
They had me worried the first quarter, then I figured out why they were beating us up on the pass. As soon as #16 OLB came into the game, the passing on the strong side stopped. Why o why want anyone throw a ball towards that kid? And why o why want anyone run towards him? Did you even notice 3 of our linebackers including #16, had casts on their hands? The only reason South scored at all. Got to hand it to Polasik he did some great throwing when he could. Second half (which Grayson has that down), #61 and #45 started getting through the line and was stopping everything. Grayson, we are proud of that defense, injured or not you guys are beasts! South beat them selves up the second half, tooo many turn overs, again some hard hitting from that Grayson defense knocked several balls loose.
49-14

to Grayson fans,,, we all know South Gwnntt is not all that great these days. However many of their top players are only in 10th grade(sophmores). By the way,, the speedy lil back Aaron Wimbley#22(i think) is another Tucker Football League product. He plays very tough although currently a lil small. I must admit that Gayson is very strong this year. I watched the Nocross/ NG game,,, and i’m thinking that coach Sphires is one heck of a coach. NG made the right adjustments,,the responded and NG took over,,whereas Norcross made mistake after mistake in the second half. DJ Adams is a hoss for Norcross!! Stop him and you stop Norcross. Also, in my oppinion,, the Jarry kid is the soul of NG,, and not Tamburo. Football on the north side of Atl (Dekalb/Gwnnt) is Damn good football!!!

SGT CHRIS, Apparently your post was before the 22-0 shut out of Carver by Baldwin. Remember Troup played Baldwin a 9-7 game without their starting QB. Held Dunwoody to 14 points, and last night lost to WACO 3-0 on a field goal with 2 seconds left in the game. Amazing. The way I see it, 2AAA is wide open. Shaw lost another close one in over time. Shaw and Troup cannot be left out of the picture.(esp. when Troup’s starting QB returns) Do not know whether or not you saw the LG game last night, but aside from the kicking game, not bad. I remain baffled as to Joe Mansour’s problem kicking the ball. He seems to be distracted by something. Hope it is nothing serious, but his inconsistency could turn an otherwise great season into a big disappointment.

TODD, Have you been paying any attention to Callaway? How about Troup? I know. Troup is 1-3. Callaway is 3-1. Troup has played without their staring QB since Game 1 against Callaway. They won 15-7. Since that time Troup has lost to Baldwin by 2, Dunwoody by 7 and Waco by 3. ALL Top 10 teams, while playing a freshman QB. Held Baldwin to 9, Dunwoody to 14 and WACO to 3. You have praised Thomasville with their ranking by losing close ones to ranked teams. What about Troup? Then there is Callaway. Since the Troup game they are 3-0, including last night’s win over Spencer 41-6. (Carver-Col only put 31 on Spencer.) Callaway has a soph RB by the name of Quan Bray that is destined to make big head lines.Spencer has a pretty decent team this year and looked much better against Carver than against Callaway. Take a good look at the Cavaliers. I believe they are worthy of ranking.

I have been sitting on the sidelines reading you and my buddy hoyadawg go at it and it has been fun to read. Congrats on a nice win last night. It will be a wild night at “The Cob” especially if EP and the Hoyas are still undefeated. EP has yet to play the real strength of the region so the remainder of the season should be interesting.

Hornet I’m with you about our coverage this week. Thanks Todd. EPHS did have far too many penalties and other mistakes. Fortunately we had the collateral in the bank to spend those mistakes this time. Our players showed true strength of character. Jaron Brown came through in a very big way after fumbling on the 1 foot line. His run from about the 35 to score was really something to behold. The defense adjusted and came through with some mammoth hits, showing real heart. These boys really know how to win. Will we win them all, I don’t know, but everybody we play will know they have met a team that comes to every game expecting to win.

Todd,
I understand that you did not have the chance to look closely at each region. With that said, I would like to give you my opinion on Region 4-AA. I think you have the playoff teams listed incorrectly. I think it will shake out like this: NE Macon, Henry County, SW Macon, Greene County.
The top team in the region will be NE Macon. They destroyed 1-AAAA Harris County 27-0. Harris County beat 1-AAAA Bainbridge (ranked as the AJC’s 3rd best team in AAAA at the time) 17-0 last Friday. I am anticipating a good game between NE Macon and Henry County October 24 at Thompson Stadium in Macon. I am eager to see if Henry County is as good as advertised.
If the opportunity presents itself, take a look at the NE Macon football team. I think you will find a pretty solid football team, one that plays well across the board…not flashy, just solid.

Just wanna give some BIG TIME credit to the SHAW RAIDERS for being very competitive through that BRUTAL non-region schedule. They played four very tough non-region opponents and were in 3 of those games until the very end. Now let’s see what they can do in region play…personally I like their chances.GO RAIDERS. See you in LaGrange Friday night.

WHy isn’t Johnson County in the Class A top 10. Coach Norton has some good stuff brewing up here in Wrightsville. The refs hate us. Electro-Mech is based here in Wrightsville and they won’t give us any discounts on scoreboards??? Everybody is haters on these Trojans. I betcha we beat ECI. Will yall still be haters???
