Northside-Warner Robins 7, Carver-Columbus 6. Carver missed a 34 yard field goal to win the game between the 2007 AAAA defending state champion, Northside Eagles and the 2007 AAA defending state champion Carver Tigers.

The Eagles win streak reached 33 straight games. The Tigers drove the football to the 15 yard line to end the first half. The Eagles stopped Carver on a 3 and 1. the Tiger went for it with 35 seconds on the clock and were stopped again on 4th and 1.

The Tigers of Carver controlled the entire second half. They ended an almost 10 minute 3rd quarter drive on downs at the 25. Northside’s offense only registered one first down in the entire secodn half.

Statistically, Carver outmatched Northside. With less than a minute left, Carver scored what seemed to be the decisive touchdown. A holding call pushed the ball back to the 25 yard line with 50 seconds left in the game. Inevitably, Northside escaped in Columbus versus Carver with a 7-6 win.

Northside will have to give a much stronger effort against Lowndes County next Friday in Warner Robins. Even a Northside homer such as myself has to tip my hat to Carver-Columbus, who outplayed Northside in every way.

EagleNationRising got it exactly right. Carver is real deal and but for annually pathetic kicking game would have been 7-7 and i guess overtime. Either, NSWR ain’t as good as advertised or Carver is damn good and AAA should be shaking in their cleats. almost makes a man want to wait til friday to go to jacksonville not to miss Lagrange and Carver on Oct 30

No excuses. I am a Northside die hard and there is no way that we should have won that game. I actually feel badly for the Carver kids. They drove inside our 30 repeated and could not score. They actually scored with 50 seconds left and it was called back on a holding. Northside’s great radio guy, Mike Davis, called the game winning FG before the Columbus officiating crew called it wide right (therefore, it must have been close). Northside only had one first down.

I would not buy into Northside not being good. Don’t fool yourself. Our QB Joe Scott is very questionable and just can’t effectively pass the ball. However, our defense and our special teams are unreal. This was a down road game and a great test.

This is the second straight defending state champion that Northside has faced and Valdosta comes to Warner Robins next Friday night. We follow that with a very good Houston County (Warner Robins) team and then travel to Lowndes County.

I think Northside kids won a big game last Saturday against nationally ranked Booker T. Washington of Miami and got caught in between patting ourselves on the back for a huge 31-7 win and looking ahead to our game against Valdosta next Friday.

Our mistake and we are very lucky that a very good Carver team did not make us pay for it. If Carver had an adequate kicking game, Northside’s 32 game win streak would have been stopped. Of course, woulda-shoulda-coulda is not going to top a program like Northside. Our Eagles are at 33 an counting a working to reach our 4th straight State Championship game.

Go Eagles!

Wow between Camden, Lowndes, and Northside Warner Robins……I think it’s pretty safe to say that the 2008 football title runs through South Georgia

By EagleNationRising

September 12, 2008 11:42 PM | Link to this

I would throw Valdosta in that mix JoeJoe. We may see four to six South Georgia teams reach the AAAAA quarterfinals. That would be amazing considering that AAAAA is primarily a metro Atlanta classification.

I believe you will see a similar shake out across many classifications. I know that the Atlanta posters hate to hear that. However, most honest posters know that this is true.

Milton is for real this year. Toney Williams, Taj Harris, etc. can carry the ball. It’s been a long time for the eagles but this year looks special. The defense shut out Wheeler 41-0 tonight. Don’t be surprised is heads wag in a few weeks. This could be the year. Clay, Kiser, Philpot, Quinlan and Hamilton can do the job on defense. Just hand it to Toney Williams or Taj Harris and 7 points are coming up.

was at the walton game - good job to the raiders! also, respect for walton coach dudley - raiders had the ball very close to the end zone with 12 secs left and he didn’t run up the score and push for it…. classy move, coach - you’re an important role model for coaches everywhere.

The Milton Seniors deserve a nod. Besides who were mentioned earlier, Blake Fegan has 2 picks, Tony Tavizon is a killer at defensive end. Jones and Collins are strong at corner, and Prybol and JJ can play hardball. Offensively, James Snyder, Ray Piselli and Michael Brodsky will pancake you. Johnny Keane has great hands along with David Hurst and Brendon Bachrodt . Watch out for the eagles. This is 55 years of watching football talking. When Blake Lanham comes back from injury, watch out. I predict 9-1 and then the playoffs.

Attended Mill Creek-Norcross game last night. Norcross D was awesome. D line (#13 & #56)spent all night in Mill Creek backfield. A pretty workmanlike effort for Norcross. One big run all night for NHS. Should be an interesting game next week between Norcross & North Gwinnett. Norcross has had North’s number the last 2 years. Norcross would have a leg up with a win. BTW Mill Creek, How about supporting your team? The visitor stands were not even HALF full!

Through the first 3 quarters Ware only one first down against Lowndes defense. Against second string ended up with 4 total by end of game. First 3 quarters they never crossed the 50 yard line. Lowndes moved last years defensive end (Copeland)back from linebacker to defensive end and brought Demps in to play linebacker. A good move as both the linebacker and defensive line were improved from the Peachtree Ridge game.
