AJC high school football rankings: September 8, 2008
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Here’s my starting 11 ..
1: What’s up w/ Ware? Is it the QB injury? New coach? I don’t see Lowndes having much trouble with the Gators. I’m talking 31-7.
2: Who’s No. 2? Northside and Carver. The defending champs are No. 2, according to the pollmeister, but both are defending champs. Some game they’ll have Friday. Might go to that one. Northside will win and cover.
3:. Huge win for North Cobb over MLK. Any team can have a good season, but to lose so many key players and beat a team like MLK shows NC is a program (and Shane Queen is a coach) with staying power. Yet I still think Harrison will win Friday.
4: Coffee will beat Shaw, but Tift County sure did sully Region 1-AAAAA’s reputation last week.
5: Whitewater vs. Mays. Great game in 5-AAAA, an underrated and very tough region. Had to give Mays its due w/ a #8 ranking. Whitewater, ranked #5, can solidy my faith in that program, too. W will get the W.
6: Thomasville is ranked #10 despite being 0-2. Might still be #10 despite being 0-3 if the ‘Dogs play Cairo close.
7: Lots of great games this week involving a non-ranked team. Coffee vs. Shaw is one. The others - Marist at Chamblee, Baldwin at Peach, Troup at Dunwoody, Stephens County at LaGrange, Lovett at Buford. I think the non-ranked team will win at least three of those. I just don’t know which three, but it will NOT be Lovett.
8:. Buford, 42-0 at halftime. That’s ridiculous.
9: Washington-Wilkes was unranked last week. Lost Friday. Then got ranked this week. Ask me about that. Almost ranked Troup using the same logic.
10: Not sure that WaCo, Monroe and Gainesville are really Top 10 teams. We haven’t seen the last of Shaw, Perry, LaGrange and Carrollton. Just figured I’d give those other three their day in the sun while they’re undefeated.
11: Rankings DO mean something. People think they don’t, but they do.
Todd talks back: Holcomb mixes it up with you all week long. Catch his running commentary in Poll Talk Monday-Friday. Leave comments, questions, etc., here and return to talk about this week’s rankings.
