Sam it was not an upset … if North Cobb held the #1 title the longest last year then they should have blown MLK out of the water; Instead it came down to a pray and field goal at the buzzer.

The calls made by the refs in the MLK vs N.Cobb game was horrible, & I think if N.Cobb feels good about the results of that game indicates that they r NOT championship material, if they call that a win. This blog dsn’t gv me enough space to highlight all of the egregious calls that were made by the refs, and the guy controlling the clock, but I wonder how a premier team gives up a 2 touchdwn lead on their home field to a team that was noticeably smaller.

Dear AJC,

I don’t expect coverage on every game in the state, but please show some love to the Cairo Syrupmakers. We just beat the hell out of the No. 1 ranked AAAA team (Thomas County Central) in the state at their place. We have two BEASTS playing rb.(Reginald Bryant and Ronnie Wooten), along with a dual threat QB, Angelo Pease who reminds me of Juice Williams at Illinois. All I’m asking is a little love/coverage.

By MJ

September 6, 2008 11:03 AM | Link to this

I agree gdg73. The ajc really missed the boat on the best game in Georgia Friday night. Cairo and TCC, both topped ranked teams from their respective classifications, and not a peep mentioned about the game on ajc. Come on ajc, pick up your game!

By gdg73

No coverage for the game that featured the No. 1 teams in AAA and AAAA. Get real!!!! They will have no choice but to cover Cairo once we invade the Georgia Dome for the State Championship Game in December.

History was made tonight as Towns County High School football, for the first time ever, won not only two games in a row, but two games in one season by shutting out Rabun County 20-0 in week one, then coming back in week two to beat Lakeview Academy 26-13!

This is big news for anyone who has ever followed or made fun of Towns County’s football team. We now have a team to be reckoned with!

By AJC Sports

September 6, 2008 12:54 PM | Link to this

Good for Towns County, Ada. And that’s fantastic news for Meadowcreek. Only question we have about the Towns County win streak is this: Will Towns ever start playing a true region schedule again? Do region wins matter more than non-region wins or is “a win is a win is a win.”

To Meadowcreek’s credit, the Mustangs play in one of Georgia’s toughest football regions - 8-AAAAA - and face really formidable foes in the likes of Brookwood, Parkview, etc., every season. Our understanding is that Towns plays a non-region schedule, and that’s fine, but doesn’t it mean a little more if/when a team that’s had a hard time winning earns its victories against region foes - or against schools that aren’t typically scheduling a majority of non-region opponents?

This isn’t a slam on Towns or other non-region schedule playing teams - just something we’d like to gauge AJC.com reader opinion on.

Congrats to all of Friday’s winners and better luck next week to the teams who didn’t come out on top.

Camden County Football

To all of the folks who continue to point out that Camden plays in the weakest region in the State….”No Duh”….we down here are not any happier about it than you are (a lot of times it is like watching the lions eat the Christians)…..we already know that we would most likely be better off from a competition standpoint by scrimmaging our own second team, but we can’t do anything about that except to play in the Kell Classic (6 and 0, by the way) and schedule teams from outside the region as best we can each year (take note of the teams this year…Norcross..a win, Columbia HS, Lake City, FL..a win….and Hoover, yes that Hoover…this Friday) Having watched Jeff Herron put this program together and having watched HS Football in 6 or 7 States over the past 30 years I can tell you that year in and year out they are the real deal. In my opinion Lowndes and Camden are the top 2 teams in the State at this point and I have not seen anything else that proves otherwise, but I do maintain a pretty open mind. This year they both have superior defensive teams (Again) and some argue that the offenses are overrated, and at times I would agree, they continue to put a consistently fine TEAM together and it shows in the records, regardless of who they play. What is not apparent from the box scores, is that both teams call off the dogs around half time, otherwise is could be really ugly and scoring records would be falling all over the place. The only thing that I do know is that when you play either of those teams you had better bring your “A” game and don’t expect to score too many points unless they turn the ball over deep in their own territory or do really dumb things….which I have not seen either of these teams do, as a result of discipline, which is directly related to hard work and excellent coaching. To those of you who are not satisifed I can only suggest that you give Coach Herron a call after the season and see if they would be interested in playing your team…come on down and experience fooball “South Georgia Style” and find out why we like it so much.
