AJC high school football rankings: August 31, 2008
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
There’s a new No. 1 in AAAA - Tucker. Last time the Tigers were No. 1 they had Patrick Pass and Corey Robinson and went 10-0 but lost in the second round. That was 1995.
Some tough calls in the new rankings - I went w/ Coffee over Tift to take the place of North Gwinnett. Some might say NG should stay.
Three AAA teams lost but stayed in the Top 10 (Shaw, Flowery Branch, Perry), but not LaGrange. I’m sure I’ll have to answer to that.
On to our “Famous Last Words’’ segment
‘’Are you crazy Todd? Don’t ever bet against LaGrange - even though Newnan is a good team. LaGrange always find a way to win.’’ - Kew
(Newnan beat LaGrange 31-7.)
Absolutly shocked not to see Calhoun on this list. … Do you get out of the perimeter much? 7 straight Region Championships should mean something.” - Joe
Where’s Calhoun High School ? You know, the Double A powerhouse that just held pre-season #5 ranked AAAA Rome to three points in a scrimedge? - Old Gold
(Calhoun lost to Dalton 30-7.)
‘’rome over east paulding by 14. just think of the fun AAAAA is going to have with these east paulding boys.’’ - Extiger
(Rome lost to East Paulding 10-7.)
”with a much improved offensive line and a stronger defence, LANDMARK CHRISTIAN should be ranked in the top 10, especially with tanner bryant returning @ quarterback.” - Richard
(Brookstone beat Landmark Christian 34-14.)
‘’St. Pius??? Come on, I know they are new to AAA, but why are they added to the top ten list?’’ - Football Fan
(St. Pius beat Marist 21-10.)
‘’don’t be surprised if you get there late and NSC (Carver) is already up by 28. It’s not going to be a close game. I think the battle between the bands will be a better show.’’ - Panther Fan
(Mays beat Carver 37-19.)
‘’ML King will lose Big-Time. They lost too many players and coaches.’’ - Tj
(MLK beat SWD 21-12.)
‘’Way off with Harrison! are you kidding me? Campbell beat them the last two years, they lost alot of players and have a new coach. They be doing good to break .500 this year.’’ - Xplayer
(Harrison beat Peachtree Ridge 13-3.)
‘’Coffee, NOT.’’ - slalom1
‘’I agree with you on Coffee, it wouldn’t surprise me by year end if they aren’t at the bottom of the barrel except for possibly HoCo.’’ - yo
(Two Poll Talk Hall of Fame posters finally agree on something, and they’re both wrong. Coffee beat AAAA’s No. 1 team, Ware County, 24-0.)
Of course, a few people were astute when they said
‘’I don’t know much about Timberview, but I just don’t see Buford losing.’’ - whs’86
(Buford beat Mansfield Timberview, a ranked Class AAAA team in Texas, 42-21)
‘’Here’s hoping none of the kids at Woodland-Stockbridge get seriously hurt vs. Lowndes. Yikes.’’ - Ken
(Lowndes led Woodland 56-0 at halftime.)
‘’ Rome high school They are rated @ #5 BUT will drop after the beat down East Paulding will put on them.’’ - EPRAIDERNUT
(It wasn’t a beat down, but EP did beat Rome.)
‘’It will be a very long drive home for the Grangers.’’ - Dawgsig
(It was.)
‘’North Gwinnett and Norcross are way too high on the list. And Brookwood have something going on we do not know about? And the question on Parkview, they are wallowing in the basement with South Gwinnett now.’’ -T.J.
(North Gwinnett, Norcross, Brookwood and Parkview are 0-1. Parkview is history.)
‘’Okay, all this AAA talk and one team gets no ink? “Dunwoody” - DeKalb
(Dunwoody beat Griffin, a ranked team from a higher class, 41-34. Of course, Dunwoody did get some ink beforehand with an AJC preseason ranking.)

After all the trash talk from Marist about being “a class above” St Pius, it was great to see them get beat Friday night. Marist football got beat, the fans got beat, the band got beat. Marist even showed what little class they have when they turned their backs and walked off the field during the opening prayer and national anthem

Slalom 1, Are you going to take that from Todd? A lost to one of the AAAAA favorites to win it all—-you are AAAA team playing up——-LG wasn’t shown any respect! I hate to see what happens to NSWR should they lose to BT Washington FLA this weekend.

Todd it’s okay by Dunwoody all we want to do is keep winning and get back to the playoffs. Oconee County will be another good early test this week with the state’s best quarterback. Dunwoody football team will continue to get better each week with one common goal “Play 15”. Fact Dunwoody led all of Dekalb county is rushing last year and could be off to another stellar season with two very good senior backs and two juniors that continue to get better. Griffin is one of the better teams in AAAA and I am sure if you were to ask them they will tell you Dunwoody is one of the best teams they have faced in either class.

I’m not trashing LaGrange. Newnan is a good team, and I suspect LaGrange will be in the final Top 10. But not sure I should continue to rank a team that lost in the first round last season and opened w/ a blowout loss, even if it’s against one of the best half-dozen teams in the state.

Yep…proud of those Coffee boys of 1AAAAA for proving me and “mister never wrong” :-)…wrong. Also proud of the Buford bunch for taking down a bigger school out in Texas rather handily. If it weren’t for the fact that Texas will have a lot of excuses it might would actually shut em up for a little while….not! Looks like Northsides next opponent (Miami-Washington of Florida) lost last week to a team from Arizona and rather handily also. Regarding 1AAAAA…if it weren’t for them beating on each other this year it looks like there might be 5 or 6 of that region capable of being Top 10 material. In fact the way the season started one could say all 8 of them made a case for Top 10. Hey Slalom…I think we are the first 2 to be inducted into the Hall of Fame….kind of makes a fella proud..:-).

igotxx3, obviously you are not that smart because Dunwoody is AAA and Chamblee is AAAA. So to answer your question no it’s not possible. Okay, Chamblee won last year, but remember the year before when Chamblee was #3 in the state and they lost to Dunwoody how soon we forget. Just be happy that your team is doing well and is one of the best teams in AAAA no doubt.

TODD, What you are actually doing is trashing Newnan. Giving them no respect for beating a very good LG team. What the AJC should have done is to move Newnan up to #2 in AAAAA. Dropping LG out of the TOP 10 does not bother me at this time of the season.Actually, the game was not as much of a blow-out as the score. At half time it was a 10-7 game, with LG appearing to have the momentum. This is a very good Newnan team. And, you along with the rest of the AJC staff should take a much more serious look at Newnan. They are for real.

Igotxx3— ? ? ? are you kidding?? Roddy was having to play CB and cover very fast WRs,,, and then asked to carry the bulk of carries,, and Dat Tuck flatout BEAT Chamblee in a well fought game. chamblee had some success with their passing in the first half,, but Tucker adjusted. Many a player @ Chamblee grew up playing with most of the Tucker kids @ TFL,, where DR.Jones(Roddy/Darious Jones’ father) coaches and developes youth to this day. This year’s match-up of Tucker/Chamblee will be fun to watch.
By the way DHS : don’t worry yourself too much with folks sleeping on Dunwoody. Hey,, Dunwoody,, be happy !! But seriously, I know some folks who know some folks who some folks and every time football talk comes up ,, Dunwoody finds its way into the conversation. Who knows,, maybe this will be the year of the METRO ? — St.Pius or Dunwoody(AAA) Tucker or Chamblee(AAAA) and MLK or Stephenson(AAAAA) ??? Alot of kids at St.P live in Dunwoody. It’s great to have HSfootball back from South to North to East and West,,,Good luck to NSWR this week ,, and i tip my hat to Buford. Ga football is damn good football !!

Wow, I got it right in Region 8 AAAAA. Let’s see if this statement flies. If Grayson wins the game this weekend against Warner Robins, they will go undefeated until second round of the playoffs where stronger regions bump them out. Region 1 is too strong, and Camden will will be there at the end too. The dark horse team…..North Gwinnett with the tough games they had will learn and pass up everone in their region.

Ok…The fun begins again…
Rome came to “THE BONEYARD” ranked #5 in the State and was sent home losing to the East Raiders, by a score of Raiders 10…Referee’s 7 and Rome “0”. They will however get credit for the 7 points, a FORWARD pass was dropped by the Raiders (in front of the Rome bench with the ball ON THE GROUND,the play OVER with players heading BACK to the huddle when a Rome player PICKS THE BALL OFF THE GROUND and runs to the end zone!!!
This “highly qualified officiating crew” runs to the end zone being “screamed at by the Rome coaching staff” and signals TOUCHDOWN!!!
All this occurred after the Raider defense had SHUTDOWN Rome inside the Raider 15 and was marching back up field for another score!
It DOESN’T matter what team was on the field when something like this happens the kids deserve BETTER!!!
We heard all week how that obnoxious Wolf Whisle of Rome’s was going to be sounded…all we heard at “THE BONEYARD” last night was the sound of our CANNON!!!
The NEW division 5 A Raiders start the season at 1 and 0!!!!!…It’s on to South Cobb in 2 weeks (Bye week next friday)
So Todd..East knocks off the #5 team in your poll and NO ranking yet???!!!

Dekalb Football I still remember that game like it was yesterday. I still have the article. The first part says hard to guard “on chamblees final drive of the game against tucker quarterback jason barcus completed three passes to barry huntley. They tripple teamed him and he was still able to get open” then the next part says beware of the clock oh yea I remember this, the clock wasnt working during the. but my point is chamblee lost 28-21 that year and the officials agreed that the outcome should never be decided by referees when they called 2 devastating penalties in the final minute. I can go on and on what is listed in this a article, but you get the point, all im saying is chamblee remembered that day and are looking for revenge.

igotxx3: I suspect the main person who remembers that Chamblee-Tucker game three seasons ago is you. LOL. Irrelevant now: After watching Tucker struggle in Brunswick, against a smart senior quarterback with an accurate arm, and against their own stupid mistakes, I’m sure this season’s matchup will be a very tough one. This year’s Tucker edition is nowhere near the equal of last year’s; it is a very good team, but will have to mature into a great one. Hopefully, they learned a few lessons in Brunswick; the only quality opponent in the next five games before Chamblee will be Marist. It would be very easy to start believing that #1 ranking is deserved after beating up on the likes of Lakeside, Lithonia, Miller Grove and North Springs. If anyone might be motivated by revenge, it would be Marist and if Tucker isn’t careful, that could be the snake that bites them.

First of all I receive alot of choice words when I said NSWR might be the 4th best team in the region because I believe Coffee was the real deal. And like I said Coffee should be in the top ten and was one of my teams to watch. Just Like the regiion Lagrange plays in which includes Lagrange Troup Shaw and Carver finishing fourth doesn’t means you have a bad team it means your region is deep. Also a couple of my friends from middle GA told me the Perry vs NSWR game was dominated by Perry in the first half but NSWR with some gifts from Perry won the game.

you along with the rest of the AJC staff should take a much more serious look at Newnan. They are for real.
Well, they are #4 behind the defending champion, a team w/ a 31-game winning streak and a team that has won more games than any other AAAAA team the past five years. I respect Newnan.
So Todd..East knocks off the #5 team in your poll and NO ranking yet???!!!
EP beat the #5 team in the AAAA poll. EP definitely would be ranked in AAAA if eligible.
Was Coffee that good or were those who picked Ware #1 in preseason way off base? Time will tell….right Todd?
Not sure, but I think Ware probably isn’t as good as we (or I) thought. Ware has a new coach, and its starting QB was injured, if not mistaken. Also, Ware is a team that played well in the playoffs last season but didn’t dominate its regular season. So it could be that Ware wasn’t as good as we thought last season, either. Not saying Ware wasn’t very good, but just perhaps not as good as they looked at times in the playoffs.
Coffee is a team I considered ranking in preseason and felt would be pretty good, but those I talked to in 1-AAAAA didn’t think so. I think it’s a matter of Coffee letting people down too often. I thought Coffee was loaded last season.

Hey Homet,
Good AAAAA teams are supposed to beat good AAAA teams on their home field. If you were still in AAAA, then you would get the ranking that you are looking for, but tell me which team in the AAAAA rankings should be bumped for an East Paulding team that looked good but not “lights out” against Rome? If you had DESTROYED Rome, then maybe your argument would hold a little more weight, but remember that you are playing with the big boys now (no offense to the lower classifications).

Congrats to all deklab teams that won this week. i’m really looking forward to the outcome of every region in metro atlanta area. Big Props to Chamblee and Dunwoody who pulled big wins on friday, keep up the good work. Bring home the ship in AAAA and AAA for the northside of Atlanta.
And DHSfootball, you made a small error. Chamblee led the county in rushing last year with 4,700 yards. But Dunwoody did finish in the top three for rushing in county along with tucker.

To:Slalom don’t worry about the Grangers they will like I said all summer a great team by the end of the year that why I believe Lagrange vs Newnan game would have been a classic if played later in the year. I think Lagrange inexperience line actually played o.k. friday vs Newnan pass rush. Also Todd, Derrick, Rivals and Scout.com all don’t show Newnan no respect. Prime example Kendreass Wynn 5’11 202 runs a 4.5 forty benches 335 has been a four year starter at Newnan and he is not mention anywhere in recruiting circles. Like I said in last week blog he is the most underated player in GA. With over 3,500 career yards including over 200 yards last week vs Lagrange I hope people realize this kid is the real deal.

TO HOMET: Before you start all this talk about why East Paulding is not ranked you might consider this. Last year EP barely beat Paulding County who was trounced by McCeachern and who in turn was trounced by Harrison and others from the region they are now in. Now EP barely beat a good AAAA team. Keep in mind EP beat the #5 team in the AAAA poll, not AAAAA. It is a big difference and besides, who is East Paulding going to replace in the AAAAA poll? If EP can run the deck in the region they are now in I will say hats off to them yet time will tell.

By igotxx3: HSBallfan the only reason im bringin it up is beacause thats the last game they played before moving down to 3A. now they play this year it makes alot of since to me. Coaches were different, players were different, ancient history. I was at that game, too, and don’t remember it quite the same way. It’s too easy to blame the referees. By the time Tucker and Chamblee meet, they will both have played Marist as well as the region doormats, so we should have some reasonable data for comparison. Right now, based on what I’ve seen in two Tucker games, if Chamblee can pass the ball and play a little defense, they have a chance to win. However, there’s a lot of football to be played between now and October 17th, and Chamblee has SW Dekalb the week before Tucker. Little point in making predictions right now.

Drock8 …I really don’t know what you have against NSWR ,you really have no reason for concern just yet…It’s way too early to concern ourselves ,Region play hasn’t even begun yet!….First Perry is a good team no matter which class they are in ,not many could have survived the first half they put on us , Your “friends” who we’re there , surely would agree with me . And they would also agree with me that these “gifts ” were forced ,If they are true ballers…….Warner Robins ,Perry and Peach Co. kids have been knocking heads since they we’re knee high , in Rec , middle , and now High school ,They are all familiar with each other ,games like this could go any way ,rankings mean nothing in county ball……The problem is that you know there isn’t any justification for your 4th place ranking . You know the jury is still out on Newnan ,and you want approval with a close win over Coffee last season and a win over Lagrange…..It’s not that easy…… Lowndes ,NSWR and Camden earned their places based on last years results , Newnan will have their chance this year.

LOL!!! Well I knew I would stir things up a bit & no I really didn’t expect East Paulding to show up YET in Todd’s poll, BUT just wanted to start the “radar” so as they pick up wins in 5A AAAAA they get a bit of recognition.
Rome may be AAAA but they have a VERY GOOD team and the schedule they have gives them a GREAT opportunity for a VERY good year!
Remember with the score East Pldg. 7 / Rome 0 East held Rome inside the 10 and then marched back upfield. Near mid field and DIRECTLY in front of the Rome coaches a pass was dropped by an E.P. player and what should have been blown a dead ball, was picked up by a Rome player and ran back for a touchdown. This tied the game and gave a VERY ugly twist to a nice defensive match-up. East went on to get a game saving field goal and win 10 to 7.
I agree that this year will be much tougher than the last 2 years…However it is apparant that to get ANY press or recognition they are going to have to win against the Cobb County teams such as McEachern, Marietta, Harrison, Kennesaw Mtn & South Cobb…all games coming up in the next few weeks!!!
As to Observer’s comment about last year’s Paulding County game…that was the first game of the season and was played in a blinding rainstorm (the teams were taken off the field twice for lightning), the field turned to mud and mush by the 3rd quarter and passing was all but impossible. That was not a good comparison for either team as the balance of the year for both teams shows.
While we hope everyone has a great year, over in Paulding County on Friday nights you come to “The Boneyard” and LOAD THE CANNON!!!

Hey East Beast,
You ever think that maybe the reason you don’t get “coverage” is because there are bigger circulation numbers in Cherokee County than in Paulding County? Newspapers are still a business. Reid is a damn fine coach and he doesn’t mince words either, and I like that, but let’s face facts that two good years doesn’t make a program. I mean, you have a long history of ineptitude in that program, and some of you East bandwagon jumpers want a lot of credit and respect for games you are SUPPOSED to win. No one has ragged East Paulding at all, we just aren’t heralding the second coming of Bear Bryant like some in the Raider Nation are doing. One Dome trip in a decade does not a powerhouse make.

*However you have to admit for Dunwoody to finish in the top three (in DeKalb County rushing) and not make the playoff says alot about that team. *
It says more about the region alignment than Dunwoody. Dunwoody went 8-2, better than most playoff teams, and beat a playoff team in Westminster. But only two teams are allowed to qualify out of an eight-team subregion.
There are many whole regions with eight or fewer teams that qualify four teams.

By igotxx3: speaking of marist will will they make the playoffs this year?
Marist doesn’t have to be very good to make the playoffs the way the region is divided. The top two teams in each sub region will go… Besides Chamblee and Marist, the other three teams in 6A are pretty wretched (Lakeside, North Springs, Forsyth Central). Tucker and SW Dekalb will dominate 6B over Miller Grove, Stone Mountain and Lithonia, so even if Marist loses to Tucker, Chamblee and SWD, they’d still get in as a four seed unless the roof completely collapses over there.

To Reeze: My post was about how deep your region is and finishing 1-4 will hard to figure out because NSWR Lowndes Valdosta and Coffee are all good. Also my post was about how many people doubting Coffee which I think should have already been in the top ten before they destroyed Ware County. Also one thing we can agree on is Newnan NSWR Lowndes Camden MLK and the rest will all get their chance to prove how good there football team is when the playoffs start. I can’t wait.

To: GaSouthAlum…It’s simply the “LACK” of coverage the AJC gives that is frustrating, they have cut back the Northwest Ga. coverage to virtually nothing and the area has MANY quality teams. As to your comment “that two good years doesn’t make a program”…Remember we are speaking about high school kids and they run on 4 year cycles so for many of the kids at East this 2 year success story is what they DO REMEMBER!!!
The parents and boosters as well as the community have came together to help build and support this program (the new 2 story field house built for the athletic program shows the depth of the support!!!)
To go from where they were at the basement of 4 AAAA to where they are now, beginning their run thru 5A AAAAA is an achievement the entire county is proud of!
Paulding County has gone from just the one High School (Paulding County High) to now 5 High Schools with the opening of North Paulding High and it’s start of varsity play at the 4A AAAA level. With a county population of over 145,000 now we need a daily newspaper and as the AJC is the ONLY true daily around it would be nice to see a bit of coverage now and again.

Just food for thought…
If the Rome Game last wek had gone THE OTHER WAY and Rome (AAAA) had beat East Paulding (AAAAA) can you imagine how the post would be reading this week!!!
Every naysayer would have came out of the woodwork with that…”and you thought you could play with the big boys crap”…it’s the fact that East handed a fine #5 state ranked team a defeat that is causing all the dispair to several folks…
Well guys, guess what…GET USED TO IT!!!
East is here to stay and play, they may not win every game, every week but whoever they play will dang well know they were in a dogfight!!!

Quite honestly had East Paulding lost to Rome there probably would not have been anything written. You see, the other teams in the region are more concerned about playing AAAAA teams like MLK, Grayson, Kell and Peachtree Ridge. They will concern themselves with East Paulding when they play them.

CJ, Never any doubt in my mind that this year’s Carver-Col defense would be even better than last year’s team. As for LG vs. Newnan, the answer is simple. LG got whipped by a better team. The LG offense is young, but will improve as the season continues. The LG defense is strong, but simply “ran out of gas” against a much bigger, stronger Newnan OL. (Had the LG offense moved the ball better, maybe the defense could have hung in there just a little bit better.) DROCK08, I felt like the first half lived up to expectations. But, Newnan simply has a great team in 2008. And, you are right. K. Wynn is a monster. Probably the most under-rated RB not only in GA, but maybe in the good old USA. Newnan’s safety is also a beast. My prediction: Newnan will finish out the regular season-10-0. And, the LG game may very well turn out to be the tightest. This Newnan team is for real.

chamblee led dekalb in rushing at the end of the regular season last year 2850 yrds and dwood had 2700. And dwood has only beat chamble 1 time since 2002(they hadnt played each other since 1984). Now that, that is settled Pius dwood, chamblee, and tucker should all win at least 8 if not 9 games. chamblee or tucker will lose cause they play and it could be a 1 vs 2 matchup of both of them handle marist. which they should. Dwood and pius should win there subregion. Dunwoodys test is this week at oconee, i think they will be able to use there speed to out offense oconoee in what will be another shootout. Chamblee and tucker play northsprings and lakeside, both should win easy. While Pius plays GAC in a private school battle, i think pius will win in the end thou.

I think Northwest Whitfield should get some respect. They beat Southeast Whitfield 53-0 which is the biggest blowout in the series. Beating SHS might not be the most impressive thing in the world due to the fact NHS has not lost to them since 1992. NHS might have one of the most mobile QB in the state in Dean Haynes. He ran the ball 7 times Friday for 175 yards and 4 TD’s. Romeo Williams also blocked a punt and returned it for a TD, and he also intercepted the ball and ran it back for 60 yards in to the endzone. Next up is Hiram.

Todd why do you allow folks to post when it is not adding anything of substance to this conversation? I’m referring to the 1st post on here. I’m not a fan of Marist or Pius, but it seems that one team is constantly posting trash that has nothing to do with football. I am an avid reader of this blog and have not seen the case where it is the other way around. I have read the team blogs in the past and would not be surprised if that one particular team is the reason they are closed. They did the same thing to Tucker when JD left there. Make us post our names or at least have a way the AJC can contact and ban if the trash gets too deep!!

Just wanted you to know that I see you sliding back onto the blog….thought maybe something tragic had happened to you. Glad you’re back but wanted you to know that I didn’t forgett about your classic disappering act from last year. Hey, let me help you out with something for free—-fans from teams with real winning tradition don’t have to get on this blog and whine about not getting recognition and respect—-their teams play over a long period of time will demand recognition and respect!!! You want somebody to give EP something….don’t work that way, you have got to take it on the field and not in the regular season, but in the playoffs. Again, good to see you raising your head and this time I hope you will be a stud and not run and hide if your team gets whupped!!!

Play DISCIPLINED football.
After reading a lil more about Perry/NSWR,,it sounds to me like NSWR knows how to win ,, even when they suffer a rough first half,, i know they broke my heart when they came back and beat Tucker. NSWR will always be the real deal when it’s football season. it wouldn’t suprise me at all to see them win their region.

T.J. Where are Collins Hill & Peachtree Ridge? Also, can not put Grayson #1 in Region 8-AAAAA yet. They have yet to beat Brookwood. Maybe this is the year. If you have Dacula the #3 team in Region 8, then this is a weak region. In Region 2, watch out for ML King & Stephenson. Region 3 is Camden County & no one else. Grayson should take care of Warner Robins Friday night. The Demons have a good defense, but their offense sputtered. Yes, they scored 28 points, but they were set up by turnovers and scored all points after halftime. They are probably at best the #6 team in Region 1-AAAAA.

Go Easy on the “EAST BEAST”…LOL!!! You bout wore him out last year after the TCC game…
It looks like the shoe is on the other foot this year and TCC may have it’s hands full with several games on their schedule.

You act like 5A (AAAAA) ball is all there is, I have news for you…many of the 4A (AAAA) teams in the state can play any day with most of the 5A (AAAAA) teams and several of the 3A (AAA) teams could hold there own in 5A (AAAAA)!!!

To Calvin after Newnan beat NSWR 24-0 in 03 They didn’t get tore up the next week they actually beat Parkview who was nationally ranked and had a very long unbeaten streak. That Parkview team had Brad Lester who starts at Auburn as their tailback. Newnan loss the following week in the Dome to Camden County 20-10. It was 10-10 ball game going into the fourth quarter so I think your facts are off.

I am glad you predict the future. I wish I had that talent. If people were to be all over EP if they had lost to Rome it would have only been because of the quest for publicity that you and East Beast have been on. It is true several AAAA and AAA teams could hold their own yet that is not the issue. The issue is some from EP are running their mouths before they have done anything at the next level. My father, a very accomplished professional athlete in his day, use to say “those who can do, do. Those who cannot tell you they can.”
As Jaybo said, do it on the field at this level and then you can talk about it. Respect is earned; it is not given.

No, just kidding, I understand your loyalty, but you know I had to get him because I recall so vividly all of his trashtalking about what EP was going to do to TCC…I have a very long memory!!!! LOL! Anyway, I said on an earlier entry on the blog that we(TCC) are not that good this year….I’m a big enough man to admit that, but check this out…we are ranked no. 1 in the AP poll and no. 2 in the AJC!!! Let me be the first to say that we dont deserve to be ranked that high,no way, but you must ask the question why are we then? Tradition baby, tradition baby!!!!! Thats the difference between a program with winning tradition(TCC) and one who is not there yet(EP)!!! No disrespect to EP Homet, but you don’t have the statewide recognition and respect of a TCC because you havn’t won on a consistent basis long enough….thats just a fact! However, I’m not on here whining about lack of respect of TCC, we already got it because of so many years of winning!!! I’m not even gonna whine about our lack of talent this year because I know that we won’t be down long. Therefore, just let your team play, and what they do on the field will command respect….that’s all I’m saying. Peace my friend!

To Drock08, You seem to give the impression that Newnan and NSWR play each other on a continuous basis. In particular, you keep bringing up Newnan’s playoff victory over NSWR in 2003. They have only played 3-times in HISTORY with Newnan winning 2. What differs between them where it counts, is that NSWR is a 2-time State Champion versus Newnans Zich “0”. Take this example, how stupid it would be for Harrion HS to keep saying they beat Lowndes in 2007 when all that counted in the end—-was Lowndes winning the 2007 State Championship. Newnan has an outstanding 2008 team that may go all the way——-try focusing your attention on what you have now and leave the past in the past. Heck, NSWR has their hands full as it is.

To NSHS Fan if you can read my post was in response to Calvin post on how Newnan was torn up the following week after Newnan vs NSWR in 03’. I was mentioning the Parkview game which we won the Camden County game in the Dome. I was setting the facts straight with him. Yes you are correct the games with played against NSWR doesn’t mean anything like you guys winning 2 state championships in AAAA mean anything for 2008. Like I said before the contenders and their fans will see who is the best team in AAAAA this year once the playoffs start. Last year it was Lowndes This year is a big question mark. Like I said throughtout the summer I like Newnan chances this year more than any Newnan team before.

SouthGArules, Peachtree Ridge is rebuilding this year. Collins Hill looked really impressive beating Parkview and I was torn between them and Mill Creek. Region 8 is weak this year for sure outside of top 2 teams. I have seen all the teams, Grayson should win it hands down barring injuries of key players. Every year Brookwood skims to win region with great coaching and hidden talent but talent pool is too young to overtake Grayson this year. Dacula moving up from AAAA has a shot to win a lot of games, they are well coached. Season is still young, lets see what happens. Brookwood pulls a rabbit out of a hat every year. I am trying to catch a ML King or Stephenson game soon to see how ball is played out of Gwinnett. I already know Region 1 is stacked. So a number 6 Warner Robins may be as good as a Grayson.
HOMET, I follow AAAAA mostly because that is what is around me in Gwinnett. I am sure there are some AAAA schools that could compete with AAAAA. Look at Buford (AA) beating AAAA school in Texas.

WR may be the #4-6 team in 1AAAAA that remains to be seen, that would be #1 or #2 in the other regions. Grayson will be treated to the atmosphere of a WR home game something you can’t prepare for unless you have experienced it. I wouldn’t count that game as a win until they actually beat the Demons! Remember what a 4 loss Demons team did to Norcross in 2006…introduced them to a loss in at their home stadium. WR has a good defense and inexperienced offense with the best place kicker in the state. He already has 3 FG outside of 50 yards in his career.

To: grangerfan, I feel your pain. Was hoping for an LG upset. But, face the facts: Newnan was the better team. The LG defense simply ran out of gas, primarily because the LG offense could not move the ball in the second half against the NEWNAN defense. But, keep in mind that this LG offense is young. By mid season, I believe they will find their groove. The Stephens Co game coming up in 2 weeks will say a lot regarding the maturity of the LG offense. In the mean time, let’s not be too concerned about the rankings. Let’s face it: LG got whipped by a VERY good Newnan team. Let’s look at the developement of the LG offense. By season’s end, LG will be in the BIG picture.

Reeze, I understand your reluctance to give Newnan credit. Yes, they play in a region not as tough as 1AAAAA. Regardless, I have watched GHS football for more years than I wish to admit. And, this Newnan team will make lots of noise before season’s end. You also seem to “dis” the Newnan vs. LG game because you have so much respect for Perry,(who put up a pretty good fight against NSWR), and the fact that Perry sent LG home with their most lop sided defeat since 1999. This LG team is good. My prediction is that Newnan’s win over LG (31-10) will be Newnan’s closest game of the regular season. Better watch out for the Cougars in post season. As a matter of fact, should the Cougars be paired up against NSWR next week, I would bet on Newnan by at least 14 points. Maybe more. Like some other bloggers have said, AAAA is one thing. Region 1AAAAA is another. So is Newnan in 2008.

The stadiums and the crowds are WAY MORE IMPRESSIVE south af Atl.. Espclly in Warner Robbins. Don’t get Grayson too far ahead of the wagon just yet. Only ONE(1) good season doesn’t make Grayson a GIANT of highschool football. Chek the history of Tucker (10+wins in 12 or 13 of the last 15yrs but NO title) Tucker is the real deal and would march all over Gwnntt and back !!, I am not denying Grayson is a solid well coached squad,,, i just think you might be sticking your foot in your mouth with limited info. I used Tucker as reference to point out that ,,, 1.- Grayson isn’t quite up to par just yet with SEVERAL programs just one county away (SWD,Marist,Tucker,Stephenson, etc..) much less in towns where atheletics(espclly football) is very serious amongst the locals. And 2. - you guys have had only ONE just ONE playoff appearence,, and yet ya’ll are ready for the world? My point is that i think Grayson still has a lot of row to hoe before acting as if you’re all that. Calm(humble yourself) down a little bit. Confidence is good,, arrogance is foolish. Ouch…..Little bicker over Grayson and Warner Robins…nice to see. O.K….I am being objective as I can living here in Gwinnett. I lived in South GA long ago and have traveled to see a few games down there last year. GHS Student, the souths stadiums and fans beat out most of Gwinnett. Think Grayson’s stadium is a little po dunk compared to most too. Grayson still has score board with little lightbulbs I think. Best stadiums I have seen are Camden and Valdosta with artificial turf. Will not find artificial turf anywhere in Gwinnett. One thing is for sure about Grayson is their brand of football…200 yards offense or more…yes they will do that……do other teams lose vs. that defense…yes they do. Grayson is good and has returners on both sides of ball. And Grayson has only had one losing season I think. They have only been around a few years, they are still making their history now. From what I am hearing Grayson should win this. They have experienced players that have been in the some intense situations like playoffs, and last game was in the dome. I think if they lose it will be because they beat themselves with mistakes or turnovers. Their special teams looked like it was full of holes. Now #1 AAAA Tucker vs. a #6 AAAAA Grayson. That would be a good game to see. No telling the outcome. I would have to see A Tucker game before I made an educated guess on outcome.

i guess when GHSstudent closed with “BLOWOUT” and the “week in week out” comments i couldn’t help but give my .02cents. hey Grayson fan,, check out Chammblee/Tucker this year. Warren Norman(RB)from Chamblee is on his way to the SEC-Vandy, and Darious Jones (RB also CHS) is also an awesome footballer,,,, and well Tucker has Drayton Calhoun(headed to LSU)and possibly the best all around player in the state in Jonathon Davis(MVP UnderArmourcamp) and the jr Devin Scott. And SEVERAL players grew up in the TFL on both teams/ The biggest difference to me is the speed,, less flash-n-pass,,, good ole SMASH MOUTH football. educate yourself and revisit Dekalb.

GHS Student: The “atmosphere” in Warner Robins is what we play week in & week out in our region. I’m sure the atmosphere playing such tough region games as Shiloh, Meadowcreek, Berkmar & Central Gwinnett REALLY compares to playing at Warner Robins. (Smell that, this was sarcasm) For North Gwinnett doubleheader last Friday they had 8000 people at the game & people talked like that was a big crowd. A off night in Region 1-AAAAA will have 10,000 people.

P** on Patrick Pass and Corey Robinson, two of the most overrated college prospects I’ve ever seen. And I personally could care less how many athletes Tucker produces, b/c they’re school is garbage. They recruit kids from out of district and place zero value on developing student athletes. The only coach they had that was even somewhat of a decent person was Phil Lindsey, my old football coach, who believed in winning games as well as winning in life. Oh and remind me again, how many state championships has Tucker won in football? I believe the answer is ZERO. Wow what a powerhouse! I have no doubt that Tucker will destory my alma mater Lakeside( which has turned into the most pathetic excuse of a football team I’ve ever seen). But I refuse to pay respect to a program that cuts corners just to win a football game.
By HSBallfan

Dear Dan, I would expect someone from Lakeside to be bitter and biased. If your football program has become pathetic, it’s because you and your neighbors allowed it to become so. Your own ridiculous rant doesn’t really deserve a response. Successful programs attract talent and Tucker’s accomplishments reflect that. Your ignorance (and please check your own spelling and grammar before you point the finger at someone else’s students) isn’t going to change that. You are right about one thing. If Columbia ran up 70 points on Lakeside, imagine what Tucker could do if it wanted to. If I were you, I would just stay hidden under your rock.

ok lets put this in perspective. First off if your gonna talk trash about the region dont talk about the cupcakes lets bring in brookwood grayson and parkview. Ya they had only 8000 but they also were respected enough to host the number one team in the nation. o and can anyone remind me of where buford was invited to last week??? Highly doubt any of your sorry county highschools could afford that. Im not talkin about grayson im talkin about the county in general which has 18 highschools. Not like these sorry counties who shut down all life to see there boys play some footbawwl. I suppose its that or the tractor pull. The ONLY teams i respect from the south are camden county lowndes valdosta and northside. Before i go someone please remind me of warner robins record last year as i do recall its below .500. Slalom 1 ,I have a few questions for you….1) Assuming that you have not seen NSWR on the field this young season ,Why Newnan by at least 14?….And just for discussion, lets say ,Valdosta. Assuming you have not seen them either .How much would Newnan defeat the Cats by?…….2) The Grangers ,0-2 in their last 2 matchups and outscored 58-17 ,going back to last season , 2-4 vs teams with winning records and 0-4 vs playoff teams…… Now , Around the state ,What do you think the take is on Newnan defeating Lagrange?…….3)Newnan with Pebblebrook to play ,who at times can put numbers on the scoreboard ,Creekside to play , with a really good defensive scheme and E Coweta to play ,usually this is always a close one……Do you really feel that the Grangers will be Newnans toughest matchup of the regular season?

Reeze, Reason I jump on the Grayson bandwagon is the style of Wing T offense they play. I use to be a Brookwood fan. Grayson rams it down your throat with a few power backs and then pop it outside with #24. They do not even pass much. Line is good size, and you can tell QB #7 is experienced with offense and hides behind a giant tackles. Special teams stink. Will catch up with them one day. Defense, they lost a few great linemen but seem to have a good crew and rotation. I like numbers 94 and 73. Linebackers are about as good as it gets especially #45 and #36. Watch those numbers and enjoy the show.

Reeze, Maybe I was just “venting” somewhat. But as for the Newnan vs. NSWR hypothetical match-up next week, and stating that I would give the Cougars a 14 point edge. That is not “calling out NSWR”. To the contrary, you know very well that I am a fan of NSWR. Having said that, I have seen the 2008 Cougars, 2007 Perry, and 2007 NSWR(W/O Ivory), and of course LG. As a side note, I have also seen 2008 Carver-Col. I have underestimated the 2008 Carver-Col offense. They are good. If NSWR struggled against Perry as it appears they did, Carver-Col will be mighty tough for NSWR. But, getting back to 2008 Newnan. I stand behind the 14 points. This Newnan team is for real. The LG offense has struggled since 2004. I believe that I am not alone in seeing a major coaching problem regarding the LG offense. Too much talent for so little in return. Reeze, I believe you will agree that whenever a team’s defense is on the field most of the night, that team will most likely lose. Still, it was not I who “called out” NSWR. It was you who dissed LG. Speaking of “dissing”, do you recall who won the last 2 meetings between LG and NSWR? Well “Holy Cow”, here it is: 1990 21-3 LG 1991 38-0 LG. Since you seem to enjoy playing with numbers that is 59-3 LG in the last 2 meetings. Yes, that was then. This is now. But, rather than going back one year, two years, or 18 years, why don’t we keep the dissing down to 2008?

drock08, I am pulling for this Cougar team. It is all about territorial pride. LaGrange and Newnan are brothers and sisters living in the same neighborhood. After all of the years of disappointments in the play-offs, I genuinely believe that this Newnan team can make an honest run at the state title. They should have won in 1992. Maybe this will be their redeeming year. Hope so.

ghs student,,,, now you’re just being silly,,,,, in NO WAY does your region (or any other in Gwnntt) compare to the likes of Region 1-AAAAA. I doubt there’s much comparison throughout the country muchless here in Ga.Parkview and brookwood have good history,, but we all know that Parkview just ain’t the same,, and there’s NO SUCH teams like Meadowcreek, Shiloh, Berkmar, or Central Gwnntt;; “cupcakes” i think you called them. Coffe was supposed to have been a “bottom” tier team from rg1-5A yet they handled a very fast/fundementally sound team in Ware Co. . There are NO “cupcakes” in region 1. i love the running game ball/clock control (think Lowndes) or Ga.Southern of old abd therefore i like what Grayson is doing,,,, but please be careful not to be too boastful just yet. I pull for Atl area teams and gwnnt too(many freinds) but i have much respect for Middle Ga. Whether it was little league all stars in baseball or basketball,, or highschool sports,, and even now when i play adult tournament softball dem boys from Macon or Warner Robbins are very tough competitors. I’ve played my share of point-guard, runningback/strongsafety, and middle-infeild,,and have been blessed to have had some great coaches/camps along the way… and i know good ball as well as the next fan. When you combine passion/tenacity with sound fundementals you end up with a very competitive squad,, and so i tip my hat to mid-ga-folks,,,,, However,,, i am a Tucker fan !!

Drayton Calhoun is on his to graduating early and headed to LSU. JamorisSlaughter from last year is now at Notre Dame. This is not counting the Harris boys,, Tristan Carter,, Brandon Young who went to South Carolina. Their current coach as a Ph.D and is by far the best coach they’ve ever had,,,, and he holds the kids accountable on and off the feild. Did someone from Tucker fire you recently ? Are you in need of a hug or some medication ? Or would you like to taken to the woodshed for a old fashioned whooping!!! ?? either way,,, settle down,,, and lay off the Hatorade !!! Northsidefan, I agree with you. Newnan’s schedule looks soft between now and play-off time. On the one hand, this could mean NO injuries. On the other hand, it could mean a team NOT ready for a run at the state title. Regardless of the chat between me and Reeze, I remain a fan of NSWR as well as Newnan. 2007 is done. This is 2008. Newnan has a great shot, as does NSWR. No doubt, Lowndes will be difficult for any team to beat. But, we will see what NSWR has against Lowndes in the regular season as well as what NSWR has for Carver-Col.Are we having fun yet?!

Everyone, I like alot of East Paulding fans are excited to have a team that really has turned their fortunes around the past two years. I want to apologies for other EP fans, and state that sometimes excitement just makes fans says irrational things. It is great to want recognition, to want rankings, etc. etc.,,,,,,however I think that time will prove wether this recent surge is just passing or if it has become part of the culture in Paulding county. After being at ever game the past three years plus the exhibition and first game against Rome this year, I think there is alot of work to be done. EP this year definitely has the the skill positions covered and a nice hard hitting secondary that comes up and fills the run nicely. The challenge for the Raiders this year looks like it will come along the line of scrimmage, and at the linebacker spot. The offensive line has not openned up near the holes we’ve seen in the past and the defensive secondary making 70%of the tackles bodes for a rough road ahead. 4-6 or 5-5 or 6-4 are realistic outcomes this year. I’d like to be more optomistic because the effort is there and the coaching is there, and the desire…..but I’m afraid that the beef and talent on the interior lines is simply not there to produce more wins.
I know I’ve angered other EP fans, but please watch the games objectively. Effort and heart will carry them along ways but at about mid season and with a couple of losses, the really coaching abilities, and character of the team will come out. Now my only hope is that the EP fans will show the same character and resolve as the team, if they should lose a few games this year. Keep showing up and supporting the boys.

Don’t put words in my mouth!…I don’t know what “YEAR” you claim I have stated East will have this year? My post have for the most part been directed at the AJC and the LACK OF COVERAGE they give to ANY of the Northwest Georgia teams…
When East moved UP to 5A AAAAA everyone from the coaches to the fans are WELL AWARE of the difference in the competitive level. East has YET TO PLAY any of the 5A AAAAA teams, Rome was a VERY strong State ranked team 4 AAAA team!
So hold your sarcasm, nothing was directly at you…let’s just see how things look in say 4 or 5 weeks down the road.
To Realistic EP Fan:
You sound more like a North Paulding Wolfpack parent / fan than one from “the Raider Nation”…LOL!…but you are right about North Paulding building a good program. They pull from the same great area that East does, with many families having kids in both schools right now.

ok, lets be realistic, do you really think Grayson will take this game lightly? and come on, they, we, I took a trip to Camden last year, there is no comparison to the crowed, I was awwwed! If WR crowd is anything like Camden, Grayson will have seen it before and hopefully know how to handle it. these are very composed boys from the Grayson team. You can say I called it first, but if Grayson does not play their key players on defense and offense, they will lose to WR. If they do lose, take a look at who’s missing from the start, ask your self if it would have been a different outcome had certain players been in the game.Maybe they can do, im surely hoping so.
TJ, you mention the linebackers from Grayson. did you notice that the Eagles did not run the ball at # 16 Greg Zellner? Also the kid who scored the first touchdown in his FB debut, take a guess why. Im thinking the word is out about this kids out playing Vanderbilt’s Tristian Strong in the last three games and playoffs last year for Grayson last year. Everything the eagles scored was from special teams and the weak side defense. Lets see them run it at this kid! Might mention I hear a Alabama scout is talking to him. Kids talk a lot around here.

Let’s put this in perspective. Had Rome had their starting QB available for duty, that “great” defense of EP’s wouldn’t have stood a chance. As far as the FORWARD PASS as you like to call it, that was a lateral that hit the ground, therefore a fumble. The refs didn’t give us that call, we earned it by knowing the rules. Rankings are pointless anyway, games are won and lost on the field, not in the newspaper. With NSWR moving up to AAAAA we have a legit shot at getting to the dome. Don’t take anything away from Rome, you hatin’ EP fans. You got lucky this time, next time may not be so gracious for ya!

Not a huge Norcross fan and certainly respect Camden after last years wippin, but I saw the dome game, I was honestly just as glad to go to the dome and see Camden play again as I was Grayson. Was really shocked to see how well Norcross handled them in the first half of the game, I thought they had a chance. Kuddos to Norcross for that. the difference was the 3rd and 4th quarter, when Camden showed Norcross how to be a second half team! This will make the difference in many many games this year. Advise to Norcross, extra hard practice and more of it!!!!!

TODD HOLCOMB, What do you have against LG? Sure, they got whipped by a VERY good Newnan team in Game 1 31-10. It was Game 1. Newnan was the beter team. Remember Lowndes losing to Harrison 9-0 in 2007 in Game 1? How about Lowndes losing to Ware County 28-7 early in the 2005 season? Peach County lost Game 1 in 2006 to Westside 30-11. What do they all have in common? The losers went on to win state titles. Getting back to 2008, you still have Ware County ranked after taking a 24-0 beating by a previously unranked AAAAA Coffee Co team. Ware Co is AAAA. LG is AAA. Ware lost by 24. LG lost by 21, but by a RANKED AAAAA team(Newnan). I am actually not bothered by rankings. But, I do get just a little bit upset when a team gets dissed. During the entire millenium, LG has only suffered back to back losses once in the regular season and twice from one season to the next. The 2008 schedule is very tough. But look for the Grangers to be there when it counts.

Hiram came out with a PASSING game and a VERY solid defense, they looked sharp. Check out Hiram’s schedule, playing Cass, Northgate, Paulding County, South Paulding & Osborne next and they have a chance to be 7 & 0 going into the final 2 games of the year with Hillgrove and Sprayberry!!!

The way i see it is defense and speed. If you can’t score your probaly not going to win.Lowndes has a blue chipper playing both ways and he shines on either side.Lowndes played a clock controlling game against PeachTree and peachtree played their A game. The defense for peachtree was just a little bit to slow to contain Lowndes when lowndes was past the 20 yard line. Peachtree made a valiet effort but lowndes defense was to quick. The 22 to 7 lowndes victory was sweet. The region 1 AAAAA in south Ga football is like the SEC in college football. They are all tough and anybody can lose on any given day. Ask Steve Spurrier and we might even be able to ask Urban Meyer this afternno.

What team are you with Hsballfan??? Just dont want you to be able to jump on teams bandwagon later on!!! Now, lets talk football. First of all, JAYBO didnt go into hiding…just got my laptop out of the shop a few minutes ago. I’m to much of a man and stud to hide out!!!! Hey, read my earlier entries…I said from the get go that we (TCC) are not that good this year and that I would be suprised if we made the playoffs!!! I don’t want no damn sympathy from anybody….every program will have a down year sometimes…our year is this year!!! Cairo whupped us and I was not suprised…they are a great football and are much better than TCC hands down!!!! To my friend Homet, you are a full blown hater!!!!! You get joy out of the yellow jackets losing don’t you!!!! I could care less what EP does, but you gotta make some smart comment about syrup for breakfast because it was pleasing to you that TCC lost. That was a good one though(LOL)!!! But I will give you this Homet, you called it correctly….You knew that I would show up…Atleast you know how to identify a real man, even if you cant identify a real football PROGRAM!!!!

Hey Jaybo, I feel you! It bothers me to no end when I see a blog attacking a team over and over (Alas TCC, NSWR, Peach, Lowndes, etc.) Take NSWR for instance, a team that has had a lot of success in the last few years—-Victory after Victory. However, like you stated with TCC, I know NSRW will eventually have a bad year or years. When it happens you will see all the late bloggers coming out pointing fingers on how badly NSWR were beaten and how overrated they were. I remember how Parkview, Thomson, West Rome, Lincoln, ( Of course TCC) had long runs on being Champions but it all eventually came to an end. We just have to be glad that we are in the moment when our favorite team(s) is at top.

Hey NSHS Fan, it is quite refreshing to know that there is someone on this blog who “gets it!!!” I can appreciate someone like yourself who really understands how high school football works!!! Some people just like to hate to no end on the top programs….but I remember something my father told me…”son when you’re top notch there will be people who want to see you fall.” That’s not only true in sports but also in life. To all the haters As you can see ole Jaybo dont just talk trash about football, he can get intellectual and philosphical and talk about life..put that in your pipe and smoke it. NSHS Fan, hope you all have a great season!!! Keep us in your well wishes, we are gonna need it!!! LOL!!! But its all good…I’ll be a diehard YELLOW JACKET for life!!!!

JAYBO… just messin’ with ya! Any intellegent being who has been around the high school game for any length of time has nothing but respect for Thomas County football. Obviously Cairo is loaded this year; just glad they’re not in our classification. I’ve had kids at Tucker for many years, and I’d be the first to admit that #1 ranking right now is pretty squishy. This year’s team is maybe 80 percent of last year’s, and losing our top defensive lineman for 8-10 weeks makes me very nervous about the big matchups. Marist has every reason to be vengeful; Chamblee looks very tough. Fortunately, we still have a few weeks for the rest of the defense to grow up before we have to face those guys.

Hey Morning JAYBO…I told em you would surface…LOL!…If anyone had read your previous post they would have saw you stated that TCC was not as strong this year…New coach, new system, and if I remember right ya’ll had a LARGE number of senior starters to graduate.
JAYBO, when you gonna give me credit for my post…I am NOT a “hater” as you state, just a STRONG supporter of EAST PAULDING’s program!!!
TCC’s test began with the Cairo game, the East test began last week with Rome but really starts this week with our first 5A AAAAA opponent South Cobb…but like you said, regardless of the results you WILL SEE ME POSTING SATURDAY MORNING!!!!!
Just be ready to “duck” a few shots this year because you know some of the posters are gonna take some shots in your direction!…LOL!

HOMET:
Shame on me big time for inadvertently saying email instead of blog. I don’t know if I can live with the guilt although I suspect my error might get me elected to the BHoS which I suspect you will recognize as the Bloggers Hall of Shame.

Hey Todd,
We have great kids here at Coffee just like every where else, and luv being ranked. Just want you to know that for 2008 season, we have a new Head Coach, new OC, new DF, and new QB, and lots of new players! But so far we are doing great at 2-0, and hope to win more. Region 1-AAAAA is a tough fight from the start, so that at playoffs, most of the best kids are hurt. Not an excuse but merely stating a matter of fact. Just like other posters mentioned, 6 to 7 teams out of this class are championship caliber. For Coffee, we could be 8-2, or even 9-1! Hope the boys will NOT prove me wrong.
If our coaches will just stay, and not be hijacked by other teams, could have won States too. Coach Jerry Odom who took our team to two consecutive playoffs was lured by Philadelphia Soul, Arena Football team own by Von Jovi, and they won the Championship this year. Thanks.

What happened to Perry? Does anybody know? After last week’s game against NSWR I was convinced that Perry was for real. But, giving up 47 points? Also, WACO and Peach Co both appear to be legit.

Hey Slalom, You have seen this before—-Perry laid it all on the line for their game against their in county big brother, NSWR. After losing, their morale was so low they had nothing left. On the other hand, Wilcox County a few miles down the road was itching to beat AAA Perry—and they did. Perry had a lot of turn over that they could recover from. The game this week will be between NSRW and Carver. Two 2007 Champions. NSRW was so pumped up for Booker T. Washington, 4AAAA Florida Champs—-I hope they can stay focused on Carver.

HsBall fan, I hear you…so you’re a Tucker fan…cool. I can accept a lil ribbing, I do have thick skin. Here’s my position…I don’t get on here and talk about teams that have nothing to do with my team(TCC)….I’m talking to you too Homet, though you and I are cool(LOL). I have nothing to say about Tucker or EP because they are not opponents of my team. I could care less who Tucker or EP plays or whether or not they win…my only interest is TCC!!! Do you get it??? So you don’t have to worry about me getting on here talking trash if Tucker or EP loses…not my style. You all can go 1 and 9 or 10 and 0 from here on out…don’t matter to me. Now if you TCC was your opponent then it would be different. Until then, yawl(Hsball fan and Homet) do you!!!! Peace

Jaybo, Some time around the 2010 season you can expect to see NSWR, WR, and Houston Cty back in AAAA. These teams are between 100 to 300 students above the required number to play in AAAAA. A new school named Veteran High School is or soon will be under construction and ready for the 2010 season. A big shift of about 400 students from each of the schools mentioned plus AAA Perry will be made. I believe we will again be in the region with Westside-Macon. Hey, we may get a chance to play TCC, Bainbridge, Carver, Shaw, and Cairo on a regular basis. It can only be fun!
