Okay, AJC, are Loganville and North Oconee on your radar yet?? Loganville crushed Greenbrier in AAAA, while the Titans continue to cruise in AA!! I know we’re out on the edge of the civilized world way out beyond Gwinnett County, but a little love, PLEASE!!!!

Congrats to the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes who beat Columbus 10-8 yesterday in the deciding game. It was a classic battle between two great programs!! Canes play at home Monday vs South Effingham. Bring home another state title boys!!

Well, I’m down to three of my original ten picks for the final Top Ten list - Brookwood (?), Walton & Valdosta. All the others on whom I placed my trust & my bets have since been flushed from “The Brackets”, namely Lassiter, Columbus, Shaw, East Paulding, Woodward, Pike County & Pierce County. Excellent season, gentlemen - now, to the off-season work.

Loganville’s been on my radar for quite some time; in fact I watched them beat St. Pius in game one of their first round series. I just honestly felt there was no way they could get by Greenbrier. Clearly I was wrong.

Unbelievable that two Region 8-AAAA teams make the final four and none of them Heritage.

North Oconee as well - I picked them right where they are, in the semis against Wesleyan. Justin Driscoll, Michael Vogel and Taylor Hicks (just a sophomore) are all legit. Funny, they can’t seem to avoid Region 6-AA - knocked out in the playoffs the last 3 years to Lovett, Buford and Holy Innocents’. They get another shot Monday against Wesleyan. I’ll be there.

Greg

we’re in the same boat, my friend. Let me give you my final four picks:

AAAAA - Harrison, Walton, Lassiter, Brookwood; AAAA - East Paulding, Greenbrier, Marist, Heritage (ouch); AAA - Shaw, Flowery Branch, Columbus, South Effingham (thank you, South Effingham); AA - Cook, Lovett, Wesleyan, North Oconee (only decent bracket of the 5); A - Landmark, Calvary, Telfair, Jefferson (thank you, Landmark)

Congrats to the Noles. The program has had some great coaches help build it. Glad to see the Noles in the finals.

2 words…Walton Raiders.

Griffin was not even in the top 10 at season end, had won 13 in a row at one time. They have surprising starting pitching, see today’s AJC about the young lefty who pitched two days in a row, and Heritage still has not scored. Not to mention the best player in Georgia, maybe the nation, Tim Beckham. He is a difference maker, and leader. Not over rated as the Heritage fans were chanting, last night in the first game. A little premature, and a short memory from the massive homer he hit in the first game, and the game breaking homer in the finals. The Bears are for real!!

We’ve got some well-informed readers. I like that.

Jeff

you nailed it. This year’s playoffs, Walton looks just as good as they did last season. Pitching, pitching pitchin.

two bad stretches so far in post-season - gm 2 vs. Parkview in first round, a 3-unearned run 5th; 2nd round, gm 2 - 5th and 6th 2 big home runs from Mill Creek.

other than that, the Raiders look about the same as they did during last year’s run - one of favorites, if not the Class AAAAA favorite come Monday.

Larry

The overrated chants were a little silly, I agree. Beckham clearly has a big league build; a Griffin fan and I agreed last night he would probably be better at 3rd base; but a big time prospect, indeed.

In all fairness, Beckham struggled a bit in the first game, Wednesday, a couple errors, not much at the plate. Gm. 2 he looked a lot better - 3 hits, big HR and he sent a ball right in front of the track in right in his last at bat.

Holcomb was awesome, while Heritage struggled at the plate again.

AAAA has baffled me for 3 consecutive rounds. As far as it stands right now, any of the 4 could win and I would no longer be surprised.

One other thing - Tyler Austin. Heritage soph. is for real - power, great eye at the plate. Good glove. look out for Austin the next 2 seasons.

Anyone keeping up with those AAA Stephens County Indians, led by right-handed ace Ethan Martin with his mid-90’s fastball and equally impressive bat? SCHS swept Troup County this past Tuesday with a 10-0 win and late 8-7 last inning victory.

This is definitely a team to be reckoned with!

Hey Ashman are you going to be at the Hurricanes game this week. Strange how you have it as a top 4 series last week and still harldy any coverage. You guys are great, I know that this is an Atlanta paper but you cover the state but somehow always miss the Hurricanes in baseball.

Brookwood rolls, 12-2 in 6 innings.

Matt Adams another fine outing, goes all six, 3 hits, 6 k Ronnie Freeman 2 run hr; Chase Hawkins 4 for 4

Ross Heffley 3 more hits, had eight in the two games vs. East Coweta.

Should be a great two series in Class AAAAA

how much longer is ghsa going to allow camden county to pound all their 3aaaaa ‘playing-up opponents’ and be rewarded with the region’s top seed? other AAAAA regions would like that situation. when they finally play someone in the play-offs (as in football also) they play .500 at best.

In the 8 years of this decade, Camden County has been to the playoffs all 8 years, been a final four team in 4 seasons and won a state title in 2003.

So, what are you talking about?

Congrats to Loganville, but they did not exactly crush Greenbrier. Greenbrier shut them out in game one 7-0, then lost game two 12-11. The final game was all Lganville 10-0, but 22-19 total runs is hardly being crushed.
