The awards just keep rolling in for the Lady Panthers of SWD! Congratulations to Coach Richey-Walton and both Charenee and Eboni for the recognition they received.

Seems like you have to be a senior or in the final four to make the AJC All-State team. I think more research should be done throughout the year.

It looks pretty stupid to not have Mr. and Miss Georgia Basketball as their classifications players of the year. Al Farouq Aminu and Anne Marie Armstrong were voted the best players in the state for all classifications but Aminu isn’t 5A player of the year and Armstrong isn’t the 2A player of the year. It seems pretty obvious they weren’t awarded their classifications player of the year awards due to winning Mr. and Miss Ga Basketball but it just looks dumb.

I agree with some of the bloggers. Do you have to be in the final four to determine if you are a good solid player. Let’s get real this list is not the best. Let your stats speaks for itself and not popurlarity. What is the criteria anyway and what committee select the players.

Porsha Porter should have won Ms. GA Basketball. If you are selecting teams and you have the two on the floor Porsha is definitely the best pick of the two to win a game! Classification should be a deciding factor as AAAAA has a tougher pool. Just my two cents.

Congratulations! it’s wonderful that Porschia Hadley receives the recognition she should in the state polls. However, where’s the Region 5-AA player of the Year, Kendra Grant, I don’t see her in this ranking anywhere.

Hey, yougottabekidding - did you not see the AA team??? First team, ALL UNDERCLASSMEN!!!! Three seniors on the second team!!!! Now THAT’s something to look forward to next year! I find hard to believe thet Ann-Marie Armstrong can get any better. She is an incredible talent! She reminds me of Cindy Brogdon (GAC, 1970s, for you other old-schoolers!!)
Get your head out of the big schools and look around! I doubt that any girl’s squad in the state, at any level, except maybe Kendrick, could have stayed in the gym with Wesleyan.
BTW, Wesleyan and Kendrick, THERE’S a matchup for a holiday tournament or regular season game next year! Play it in the Macon Coliseum and split the gate!!!

Good job AJC, On the all state selections—-Brittni Johnson from Clarke Central is the “real deal” and I’m glad you can see what Coach Landers can’t see.
Southwest Dekalb’s Charenee Stephens is the truth, and should be ALL CLASS PLAYER OF THE YEAR! How can Landers let her get away too!
Clarke Central Class of 1979! Tony Perkins

Thanks for all your responses to the all-state team. If you have ever had the opportunity to be a part of an all-state or all-star team selection, you know it’s a very difficult task. When you have a state like Georgia that has abundance of talent, the job is even more challenging. There were over 10,000 boys and girls that were of a high school basketball team this past season and the AJC all-state team honored 250 of them with the distinction of being named to the all-state team. Hopefully the players are honored at making the all-state team with making it on whether it was on the first, second or honorable mention team. Coaches were mailed forms in February to nominate players from their team. From those nominee forms and the recommendation of other writers, the teams were compiled. Not all the players selected played in the final four, but there was a large part. Some of the players’ team didn’t make it out the first round or even make the playoffs. When you first start, you look at the last teams standing because obviously they have a combination of good players and coaches, and you pretty much go from there. For player of the year (Miss Basketball), we felt Anne Marie deserve the title after an outstanding season in leading Wesleyan to the state title. We also considered Jylisa Williams, Porsha Porter, Charenee Stephens and Alicia Manning were given serious discussion.
I know not everyboyd’s favorite player made it, but feel that the teams are representative of the high talent level in Georgia.
