10 Signing Day quotes you’ll never hear
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Wednesday is Signing Day — the day every recruiting junkie lives for. And with Mark Richt at Georgia raking in just about every significant prospect in the state this year, it has even more potential for buzz than usual. But as soon as the players start talking, the buzz dies down a bit. The quotes?
“They just felt like family” and “I really liked what I saw at both places, but …”
So we started wondering what it would be like to live in a world where the players said what was really on their minds when they officially made their decisions. And so, with the help of Take 10 Vice Presidents Chris Whitfield and Derrick Mahone, we’ve listed the top 10 quotes we wish we would hear Wednesday … but won’t.
10 Things Signees Never Say On Signing Day
10: “I knew I was going to State U. after my visit; I just strung everybody else along.”
9: “I really wanted to go to USC, but when they didn’t offer I figured State U. would have to do.”
8: “Honestly, the only reason I chose State U. was because they had the hottest girls.”
7: “Their first-string running back really isn’t very good, so I know I should be able to start the first game.”
6: “Did you see the size of the jet State U. sent to pick me up for my visit?”
5: “It didn’t really matter which school I chose because I’ll be in the NFL the first chance I get, anyway.”
4: “I just signed with them to give me some leverage in the baseball draft. I won’t be going anywhere near campus once I get drafted.”
3: “Academics was important to Mama, but I really liked the club scene in Tallahassee.”
2: “Awwwww… I wasn’t seriously gonna go to Michigan. Do you know how cold it is up there in January?”
1: “I’m glad they don’t know that I tore my ACL last week in a pickup basketball game.”
Go on. Take Ten. What kind of refreshing honesty would you like to hear from the signees on Signing Day? What words would just be fun to hear come out of their mouths? Give us your (clean, good-natured, witty, non-Make Us Hit The Delete Key type) thoughts here.

How much did you end up “owing” the railroad Dawgbyte? If you had finshed up at Tech you may not have owed anything.

HAHA! Dawgbyte things that an “engineer” from Tech is the same as the “engineer” that operates a train. And he cant spell. When are they gonna get a spellcheck on this thing?

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to major in then coach told me that History was my thing. I’d learn all about Andrew Jackson, Ben Franklin, George Washington,Abe Lincoln,Ulysses S. Grant, Alexander Hamilton. I was even given these green things he called “Cheat Sheets” and heck even mom and pops got some. Little Timmy even got a few and he’s off at the store now learning about what they are. This is going to be the best 4 years of my life.

Well.. I couldn’t go to Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee or Florida because orange doesn’t match any of my outfits. There were too many brutes at UGA and Alabama. North Carolina blue matches my eyes but I finally decided on Tech because I heard they have the best tickle piles.

Hey, I was going to the Illium School for the Learning Disabled until Coach Richt said I could major in Gangsta Studies. The nice thing is, there is no pressure to graduate.

I’ve narrowed my choices to Clemson,TN,FLA,or Auburn because they DO match what I’m wearing now.I should be out in time to play.

On my first offocial visit to Georgia Tech I was mugged by four homeless people on campus, the head coach was fired, the defensive coach quit, recruits backed out, players already on the team were leaving, the mascot was a bug, the girls were ugly and the boys were dorks - So when UGA didnt offer , I chose the second best school in the state. Georgia Southern.

Of course I do not want to be around these nerds all the time, but someone has to help me cheat on my History of Science and Technology exams so that I can stay eligible. Shoot, if I had gotten ANY other D1 offers I would have taken them, but this is the only one. I did like that we got free lap dances at the Cheetah on our official visit…what, I wasn’t supposed to mention that? Oh, sorry.

You can come to COOT U and I guarantee that your handicap will be in single digits before your senior year. By not playing in those annoying bowl games, you have more time to play golf, with your coaches. Another good thing about COOT U is the new coaches that you will meet each year. The number of recruits that will drop your program after one visit, will allow you to party during the recruiting process with so many new faces each week. However none will ever committ to COOT U!

Tech is having a outstanding class. They got a 1/2 star lineman from New Mexico that is 6’5” 425 and runs a 7.9 40. Coach Johnson says he will fit perfect in the new offense. Recruting guru Rueben Houston has secured several spots for great prospects at the flats. Unfortunately they are have a few years left on their sentence before they can have a nice Asian young man take all their classes for them and graduate with honors. Meanwhile our top recruit, a strong arm qb has cancelled his visit since he will never be allowed to throw in the run oriented offense. I think it is called three yards on a option and punt because the defense is too fast. Meanwhile, I know we got stud that is a aerospace engineer. Coach Johnson he might catch a pass before the season is over. Happy trails and good luck recruiting. This is your favorite recruiter. Buzz we might beat UGA next year.

I guess Urban Meyer is not the “liar” and “cheat” all you Dawg fans made him out to be. Now, just eat your dawg bone like a man…and admit what jackarses you made yourselves out to be. And, by the way, Urban is kicking Georgia’s but in recruiting again this year…and he’ll do the same on the football field next fall!

Of course Meyer cheats…he has cheated your fanbase into thinking he is a good coach…he has NEVER won anything with his own recruits…

Every year I hear about all those top recruiting classes that georgia, miami, and florida get, but I wanted to go to a chool where the recruiting leads to a championship, so I chose florida. UGA thinks they are gonna win next year, but have they proves it before

No more openings at UGA? I guess I’ll have to wait and sign with UGA in March or April. That’s when the final SAT/ACT scores should come in. I figure they’ll have 10-15 openings around that time.
