Why Buford’s back for semis ‘seconds’

Buford High principal Steve Miller gives us his top five reasons the Wolves are headed back to the Georgia Dome for the football semifinals. Buford fans, what do YOU say?

1: Talented athletes that make a commitment to year-round development.

2: Superior coaching that provides leadership beyond the Xs and Os.

3: True community support. From city commissioners to the maintenance workers, our focus is excellence.

4: Because of our small-town atmosphere, the entire school system is focused on building our tradition of excellence in academics, athletics and fine arts.

5: We have the best cheerleading signs in the state.

Give us five: Got someone you’d like to see us go after? E-mail list ideas to Jeff D’Alessio.

“The Truth”- Envy sure does bring out ugliness doesn’t it. Buford follows all rules of GHSA for recruiting, but even without recruiting, we would have a waiting list for school tuition enrollment. Buford is a great community to live in and we thank the school system for the greatest part of that. Our schools excel in academics, performing arts, literary and athletics. Our students know they are the first priority in all areas and that every member of our communtiy supports them. Above all we in Buford pass on a tradition of excellence as good people. With that, “The Truth”, I shall ask- If you can’t beat us, if you envy us, then by all means, come be a part of us!

Success breeds envy as well as success. Buford has proven itself on the field year after year, and the same tired, old rants also continue year after year. I have covered high school athletics off and on for 30 years, and rarely have I ever seen the kind of universal support for school programs like I see at Buford.

The Wolves have had championship football as long as I can remember, beginning with (in my experience) Ed Trail’s teams in the mid 70s.

As long as there is a Buford (or Parkview, Brookwood, North Gwinnett, Norcross, etc.) out there that comtinues to field a top-caliber team in any sport, there will be detractors. Funny, I don’t hear anybody accusing Tucker, Northside-Warner Robins, Lincoln, Clinch, or Charlton Counties, the MLKs, or the Carver-Columbuses out there of recruiting, payoffs or anything else despite their dominance on the field this year. Could this be, “Truth”, a mere case of wishing your ball (team) was as big as Buford’s???

To “The Truth”, I have a very basic suggestion for you: provide proof of accusations or let it go and be happy for the kids in the program.

Or, to put it in terms you might be able to understand, PUT UP OR SHUT UP.

Buford should be in AAAAA because they sometimes get some of their players.
