Mad Maxie’s Dome Predictions
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

He blogs about statewide preps, whether you like it or not.
The beautiful thing about spewing foolishness on the state high school football playoff scene is this: No matter how bloody stupid it sounds — I am not looking for an amen here, by the way — nothing I say will inexplicably leapfrog one team five spots over another and they’ll end up playing for the state championship.
So, for those of you keeping score of such things, that’s GHSA 1, BCS 0.
This is not to say crazy things won’t happen, but we can at least be thankful the players are generating it and not some 11th-hour monkeying with the polls.
Thus dawns the last weekend in which the Georgia Dome will be a means to an end and not the end of the road itself. Next year, the semifinals will be like all the other rounds of the playoffs and only the last two teams standing in each class will go to the Dome for the crown.
On to the craziness. We have ECI’s Washaun Ealey, the only member of Georgia’s 50-touchdown club, in town. We have Cook, carrying the banner for No. 4 seeds everywhere, trying to take another step against the Lovett team that only now is playing the way I expected at the beginning of the year.
We have Buford, with the rare chance to unify the Class AA title by beating both defending co-champions — Charlton County last week, Dublin this.
We have Northside’s Marques Ivory trying to make a heroic, Willis Reed-type comeback, perhaps sensing the best Tucker team in years on the other side.
We have Wilcox County, one of the rare teams that can spot Lincoln County 21 points and then put the “Wood” to them. If you don’t know what that means, get a load of Deauntay Legrier this week, because Athens Academy will.
FRIDAY
Class Winner Loser
A Wilcox County Athens Academy
A ECI Clinch County
AAA Carver-Columbus Chamblee
AAAA Northside-W.R. Tucker
AAAA Thomas Co. Cent. Ware County
SATURDAY
Class Winner Loser
AA Buford Dublin
AA Cook Lovett
AAA Cairo North Hall
AAAAA North Gwinnett Walton
AAAAA Lowndes Camden County

North Hall is THE highest scoring team in the state, regardless of classification. Epps, Wolf, Fabian, and company will run all over as once again North Georgia teams dominate!

From wha i have seen from the ajc and GHS sports vent out the cairo fans think they have already won the state title, i think north hall has an advantage because they dont have to drive from the GA FL border. I think chamblees flexbone offense will confuse carvers D and the bulldogs win a 35-28 shootout

Not talking any trash, but I think Northside beats Tucker in a close game. I just hope the officials in all of the games let the kids decide who wins, and that we have no more botched calls to decide winners/losers.
Welcome back, Marques Ivory.

I would guess that Coach Nix will only play Ivory 1) If they get a big lead or get behind by a lot and 2) if it’s close maybe 1 or 2 series to see how it goes.
Then if NS wins he will get more reps next week to get ready for the Ware-TCC winner.

How will Dublin feel if Buford puts the wood to them and runs the score up as Dublin has been known to do in past years? Go Wolves, and keep the hammer down for 4 quarters!

That’s right.
There are games Friday at 9am, noon, 3pm, 6pm and 9pm. Then the games continue Saturday at the same times. It’s two very long, long days of football at the Dome.

I understand that North Hall has scored a but load of points, but I also know that the further they have advanced in playoffs their offensive production has slowed greatly. That causes me to believe that their schedule might have been a tad bit soft. I give them credit for being a good team and getting to this point. However, there is no way they will run up and down the field with Cairo. Cairo has plenty of speed to keep up and they have played a much tougher schedule being from Region 1. Cairo’s defense has had 6 shutouts and teams have only averaged 7 points. I apologize if Cairo fans have seemed cocky. We understand that we still have to take care of business and we will begin taking care of it Saturday against North Who.

Once again Camden County gets no respect!! But you had to pick someone and the Vikings are definitely worthy of being the favorite!! But I will be pulling for the Wildcats Saturday night at the dome!!

What’s a syrupmaker… You all will find Saturday at 3:00pm. You all were the highest scoring team in the state until you all starting playing other teams across the state. Remember those 12 points last week. Cairo has 6 shut outs this season and I do not expect anything different on Saturday. Ask that UNDEFEATED Carver-ATL team that got whipped 48-6 last week. You all will be lucky if you score 10 points.

A Syrupmaker is an absolutely unique mascot. We are not like all of the Wildcats, Panthers, Bulldogs, Vikings, Raiders, Eagles or Warriors (that covers 95% of the teams in Georgia), which are so very common and mundane mascots on the high school level. If you cannot tell what a Syrupmaker is from the name, you may need some academic assistance. Go ‘Makers!!

Once again, Camden County is in the dome again, against the team that beat them on their last trip to the dome…but can you say Camden is ready to take the championship this year and what did I tell you about Camden ever since week one of the playoffs, Camden looks like a state championship team and their ready to beat lowndes, like they say how camden has a cupcake season every season, but just think when Camden beat lowndes, what the press will have to say about that, their wasnt any flukes in the playoffs for Camden to even be here, but whats next is the championship game, so watch out for Camden, and that swarming defense take care of those Lowndes County Vikings, remeber I said I promise you that Camden is gonna be STATE CHAMPIONSHIP thsi year, but now its time for the whole state to watch and see how good camden is, and see that Camden deserves to be in here…

To Cairo: You might have beat * Carver-Atl last week, but let’s see if you can get past the UNDEFEATED* Carver-Col team next week. You had better pray Chamblee beat them today, because the ‘syrupmakers are going back home to South Ga empty handed. Camden being in the playoffs is not a fluke—the smack down Lowndes is about to give them will be proof that it all shakes out.
Camden DOES have light seasons every year. They need to be aligned differently.

To CHS fan: At 3 p.m. on Friday December 7, 2007 you will change your mind, just like Todd Holcolmb did, as to whom the top team in AAA is. You guys are about to face the state’s best defense and a young and talented well coached team.
Carver’s offensive and defensive starter’s are usually on the bench by half-time. They hadn’t been tested in a while until they faced Carrollton last week. Hopefully, that game woke them up and they won’t take any plays off and play hard every down. Carver would give any team in any class fits. They are just as big and just as fast on both sides of the ball as any 5-A or 4-A squad, to include Lowdnes and Northside-WR. The quarterback Derron Furr and wide-receiver Jarmon Fortson are going to Auburn next year for a reason. Our 6-2, 260 lbs. Junior LB is getting attention from Southen Cal, Ohio State, LSU, etc.. Our 6-5, 330 lbs. Junior DT has been working out with 14 yr. NFL D-Line vet, Brenston Buckner, and he has received the same attention. But, SEEING IS BELIEVING!!!!
And to Cairo fans: I am proud to say that the AAA champion will be from South GA. But, if you want title, the AAA championship game will be decided next Saturday at the Columbus AJ McClung Memorial Stadium.
GO TIGERS!!!

To Chamblee fans:
You guys have nothing to hang your heads over. Your team was a heck-of-a-lot better than we here in Tiger nation thought that they were. I didn’t realize that you had the AAA state 200 meter champion in #4 Malcolm Beyah. Your kids were not all that big as a whole, but they were fast. The number one attribute that I noticed was that your team had a lot of heart. They battled tooth and nail until the final whistle. I have nothing but respect for your team. Congratulations on an excellent season and good luck next year.

It appears that NS-WR took a page out of our book by making a 21 point comeback. Champions find ways to win and they never quit when everyone else counts them out….
Take a look at Cairo’s premature comment.
We were down 24 - 6 with 5 minutes left to play. But, our big-time players made some big-time plays.

Thanks Carver Columbus (one of the ones up there) for giving credit to Chamblee for a good game.
However, I was disappointed by the actios of some of the Carver fans after the game.Instead of celebrating your victory and being gracious to those you defeated, you decided to make a mob outside the stadium that would harass any Chamblee fan that exited.
For this reason, I hope the Trojans or the Syrupmakers beat y’all

YOU CAN HOPE ALL THAT YOU WANT THAT THE CAIRO/NORTH HALL WINNER BEATS US. I’LL REPEAT WHAT I SAID AT THE BEGINNING OF OUR GAME… WE DO OUR TALKING ON THE FIELD.
AND BY THE WAY, THERE WAS A GROUP OF CHAMBLEE FANS TALKIN’ TRASH AT HALF-TIME ABOUT THE DAVID AND GOLIATH CRAP. AND THEY WERE TALIKING BIG TIME TRASH ABOUT HOW BAD YOU GUYS WERE BEATING US. SO, THAT BUNCH OF CARVER-COLUMBUS FANS WERE JUST RETURNING THE FAVOR.
