UG-Luella FB fight: Were you there?

Officials at Union Grove and Luella await possible penalties from the GHSA after this past Friday’s game was halted following an altercation on the Luella sideline that resulted in 10 players being ejected. Were you there? If so, what did you see? Keep comments clean and respectful.

I was there, I dont know what game the UG coach is refering to when he says his staff “had it under control” but the brawl I saw was not even close to being in control. I’ve been to hundreds of football games in my life. I’ve seen dozens of “football skirmishes”. I have never seen anything like that. It was a riot on the field, there was NO control and both coaches should be heavily penalized for creating that kind of environment. Downplaying it afterword in the media only ensures it happens again, soon. For that, he should be fired!

I was at the game and it was without a doubt one of the biggest fights i’ve ever witnessed. I am a student at Luella, and you may say that I’m a bit biased, however it is very easily said that UG did start this fight and this fight could have ended quickly because the Luella coaches were trying to put out the early hitting since it all started when some UG players started a mini fracus on the Luella sidelines. However once the UG coaches and team ran across the entire field to the Luella side, thats when this got COMPLETELY out of control. For those of you who saw the Miama/Florida Atlantic fight last year, this was very similar as far as some of the harshness of the fighting. It was pretty bad!!

With all due respect to the student from Luella, there is no doubt that the fight was out of control and that the UG coaches inability to control his bench turned a bad situation into a disaster, BUT, the fight was started when a Luella player kicked a UG player after the play, thats clear from the video, Definite grounds for a skirmish, but a riot didnt have to follow. Both schools looked stupid, one bad night!

I was in the student section when the whole thing went down. I don’t understand why Luella has such a problem with us getting close there touchdown. It was hard keeping the student section under control. Most of us were ready to run out onto the field. Then we were all told that if we did anything else we would be kicked out. It got real bad. We need to learn some discipline and Luella needs to learn some respect.

This has been brewing for awhile. UG and LU have been having problems for the last year or so. The problem seems to be that UG can do no wrong and LU is always in the wrong, concerning the county administrators. Last year, UG and LU students got into a fight at a softball game all because a UG student came into the middle of the LU student section and hit a LU student with a flag…the offended student hit the UG student in the mouth. LU got into trouble, not UG. Later that year, UG did not allow LU students into a softball game because they were painted blue - I guess that showed too much school spirit.
Now to the event at hand, when a player gets tackled on a opposing schools sideline, ALL players know they need to get away from there, hop up, and rejoin their team. Things happen all over the state whenever this situation occurs, I am not condoning it but just know that it happens. Now I do not know the individual circumstances but I do know that if an ENTIRE team CROSSES a football field to a deescalating situation then they are at fault. Also, the entire team should be suspended from their next game, as per GHSA and NFHSA rules. LU may have had a few players misbehave in regards to a play but they did not cross the field…UG should carry most of the blame for this and the LU players that started this whole thing should be punished not 5 from UG and 5 from LU…
