Who do you take: Lawal or Aminu?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
You’re a college coach. Three years from now, which current Norcross star would you rather have on your roster: senior Gani Lawal or junior Al-Farouq Aminu? Does the possibility of one or both leaving early for the NBA play into your decision?

Lawal. He may never be a star in college, but you need hardworking players that give their all. Aminu has good upside, but i;ll take the given in Lawal.

I like Aminu, because he can handle the rock on the fast-break or half-court set-ups, he has 3 point range, he can post up and he is an excellent rebounder. One flaw, he could use a body build like Dwight Horward, which will come over time. Oh, and he blocks shots also.

It would depend on the team current needs. Lawal is your workhorse that can give you 20 pts and 15 rebounds whil Aminu you can get you 20 pts from outside and can lead the break. Both are young and need more experience. College basketball is a big step up and some kids can’t make the transition. These two kids should be able to make the transition okay.
It will be fun watching them on TV and seeing there basketball growth.

How many people realize that Aminu only got 2 pts and fouled out of the P’tree Ridge game which was Norcross’ only in state lost.
Aminu has only played one yr on the vasity team at Norcross so I don’t I could pick him this yr but maybe next yr.

Well Aminu broke Lebrons rebound record at age 16. So unless those guys are breaking records who are they? Gani is definately a legend in the making who could choose and why would you? The smart Coach would take them both.

Devil mom….lets be real. I understand your kid goes to norcross, but that doesn’t mean you should be disrepectin’ d-town. Michael Ruskell is the man. Google him…then you’ll know whats up.

Both
However, I do think Gani Lawal has a better shot at playing in the NBA. He is a little more atheletic and taller than Aminu.

As several people have said, both of them have a great chance at being in the NBA, they have not only the offensive skills but they are willing to and do a good job of playing a strong defense. And as Coach Martin says, offense brings the crowds, defense wins championships. Travis you need to be real, I know you are from Duluth, but I’ve watched Duluth play. Ruskell might be a good player perhaps even D-1 quality, but he is not what would be defined as a stand out, at least not the extent you are making it seem. Oh and I did google “Michael Ruskell.” All I got was some hit to a xanga profile that mentioned the name Michael Ruskell. Why don’t you google “Gani Lawal” or “Al Farouq Aminu” and tell me what you get.

First of all, its tAvaris. Not travis. Jerk. Anyways, Ruskell shout 75% from the three on varsity level this season. Case closed. Gani does NOT want to see Michael ruskell in the opposite uniform.

Tavaris nobody is disrespecting d-town just keeping it real. The question posed didn’t mention d-town or anyone else you are talking about. The only ink they are getting is because of you. Don’t misunderstand I can root for the underdog, the little man because those are the people that wind up on top. Michael Jordan is exhibit A. It’s all good.

Duluth is garbage. They are probably the worst atheletic program in Gwinnett county. They are the bottom feeders in Football and basketball. They were 5-18 this year, and lost to Norcross by 56 points in the first game and 47 points in the 2nd game this year!! Ever since P’tree Ridge was opened, Duluth has been terrible because all of the good neighborhoods got zoned to P’tree Ridge. Duluth has not beat Norcross in basketball in atleast 5 years, I know that for a fact….yall sissy purple panzies need to get off this board, because this is playoff time, which is something yall haven’t even sniffed in years. I’ve never even heard of the guy yall are talking about either Michael whatever….what a joke. Go back to your off season (which yall spend most of your time in) and get ready to be waxed by NHS in football and basketball again next year. Maybe some day yall will actually be decent, and get a blog topic on AJC about your players/team. Until then, keep your lame, waste of time, garbage off of here.

Yea Ruskell scored 11 pts. against Norcross. Big Feat!

I believe Ruskell scored 12 against norcross….he made a free throw at the end. Check your facts. Speaking of bad athletics, howd that duluth/norcross soccer game go down tuesday night? It was a BEATDOWN. We dont need p’tree kids. They can keep it real over at the country club. And how about you duluth is garbage? Do you even play sports, or are you the fat guy in the stands with nine hot dogs?

Aminu, he is versitile and he can create his own shot off the dribble at that height. He reminds me of Shareef-Abdur raheem when he played at wheeler. He will be an All-American by next year.

As I said early, Gani Lawa is the workhorse. Last night was a great example. Lawa got 31 pts 13 rebounds and 6 blocked shots to lead teh Devils to their second state championship while Aminu got only 8 pts and almost fouled out.
Right now Lawa is the player I would take if I wanted to win a championship next year and I would keep I key on Aminu during his senior yr.

So I looked up Michael Ruskell on Scout.com to see if he was legit. Not even listed as a prospect. Thanks for wasting my time “travis.”

Gani is a more well-rounded and intellegent player right now, but Al-Farouq has more raw talent. If you ask me in a couple of years Aminu will be the better choice.

Who the crap is Michael Ruskell? He only scored 12 points against and lost by 40 to Norcross, and u making it sound like he scored 40 or something. Nobody has heard of this kid and u google his name and see what pops up, nothing about him

Aminu. Both are great high school players but I think Aminu has more upside long term. Better ball handler and perimeter shooter. Both run the floor well, but I think Aminu works better outside in. Plus he shoots better from the FT line that Lawal. That almost cost them against Wheeler.
