Overtime: Who would have won?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
If Roswell and Peachtree Ridge were allowed to go into overtime, who do you think would have won?
Peachtree Ridge clearly had the momentum at the end of the game. And with Roswell running back Alex Daniel hampered by an injured ankle, the Hornets’ offense had been held in check since the first half.
But it wasn’t like the Lions’ offense was clicking on all cylinders, either. Quarterback Zach Graham was on target through the air, but the Lions’ running game was nonexistent. Leading rusher Brandon Davis was held to 14 yards.
In an overtime situation, where each team takes over on the 25 yard line, throwing the ball becomes more difficult, especially near the goal line. So, without a running game, the Lions might have had trouble finding the end zone. And, with both kickers having missed short attempts earlier in the game, settling for a field goal might not have been the best option.
So who would have won?
Peachtree Ridge 21, Roswell 14

PEACHTREE RIDGE wins in OT, no way Roswell has an answer. They looked worn out and stunned, Their antics after the game was to cover up their defeated spirit!

Big D, that’s a tough call. A coin flip would be easier to call. I have to say PR because of Zach Graham’s play making ability. If Roswell wins it’s because of Alex Daniels heart and tenacity. I say they have a rematch in an undisclosed site and duke it out. I’m going to call it like a GHSA ref. NO CALL…WAIT A MINUTE…FLAG…NOPE… IS THAT FROM THE LINE OF SCRIMAGE?…I THINK IT WAS INTENTIONAL…NOPE…PICK UP THE FLAG. OK…SOMEONE GET US A POLICE ESCORT.

Mr.Purdum it doesn’t surprise me or others that you would put a score of 21-14 as if it means anything. Your so bias to Gwinnett Counties teams it’s almost commical. The growth is over in Gwinnett County and PARITY begins!!!!!!

Don KeBallz - what - worn out and stunned - what game did you watch. It was a great game. And could have been easly won by Roswell in regulation if not for two over thrown passes (one in the 3rd and one in the 4th) that both would have resulted in touchdowns. So don’t give me that 2 missed field goals crying business as we missed 1 in the forth (after a sure touchdown on a slightly over thrown ball). Get a Life!

I’ve got a bright idea: How about you guys make a case for Roswell winning in overtime instead of accusing me of being biased? And for that matter, how can you call me biased when I picked Roswell to win the game in my previous blog? Don’t make me spit on you.

“Don’t make me spit on you’ I believe that statement makes my case!! You or anyone else can’t make a case either way, unless the game was extended to overtime like it shouldn’t been. What makes you think I’m from Roswell? did the bias remark hit home!!!

The growth is over? How can you say that when Peachtree Ridge, a Gwinnett County school, is only in its 4th year?

Roswell won the first half. The 3rd qtr. was a draw and Peachtree Ridge won the 4th. By that time, they had all the luck they were going to have. Taliaferro’s passing likely would have made the difference in the overtime.

The reaction by Peachtree shows they were satisfied to draw. The “antics” by Roswell showed they wanted to win and were not happy to draw. Winners want to win, losers are happy to not lose.
Final score: Roswell 20, Peachtree Ridge 17

Bottom Line: Stat - PR - Ros 1stDwn - 14 - 11 Rush/Yds - 25/60 - 37/130 Pass’g - 244 - 143 Tot.Yds - 304 - 273 Comp/Att/Int - 23/36/2 - 9/19/2 Penalties - 5/49 - 5/65
PR proved again, they are a second half team, the one of the best in the state. They came from being behind in the first half (stats and points)to not only match Roswell, but exceed in the stat area, effectivly overcoming, slowly and methodically. Face it, both teams fought hard, and who could say there was a looser. 2 totaly great playes gave Roswell the first half. Determination gave Peachtree Ridge the second. To all the players in green or blue, THANKS FOR A GREAT YEAR!!!

The “antics” by Roswell showed they wanted to win? Nobody ever won taking a knee. Both teams made wise decisions based on the situations they were in. Its one thing to try to win the game, but completely another to give it to the other team.

After watching the game in person and the GPB broadcast on tape, the Lions should be sending thank you notes to the officials. Both roughing the passer calls that led to PR’s last 11 points were borderline, and the holding call that cost the Hornets a 1st down in the 3rd quarter was even more dubious. Although it didn’t amount to anything, the roughing the kicker call was a blatant flop by Butler.

The apple didn’t fall far from the tree. His dad did the same as a kicker for da Bears. Go Pack!

Christmas is over and P’tree recieved their present early this year,A TIE with Roswell. The Ridge couldn’t have tied Roswell again,or even came close, even if they played an additional ten games!!
