Take Ten: Why we’ll beat Roswell
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Editor’s note: We asked the Peachtree Ridge Roar student newspaper staff to give us the top ten reasons they think the Lions are going to beat metro rival Roswell for the Class AAAAA state title Saturday and they were more than happy to oblige. In fact, when we saw the fine work that Roar Co-Editors-in-Chief Andrew Barnhart and Alexa Sherman, along with Entertainment Editor Dayne Turner, sent in, we here at Take Ten began to fear for our jobs. Thanks also to The Roar’s advisor, Tom Myers, for making it all happen. And so, without further ado, here’s why The Roar staff says the Hornets’ supposed sting can’t match the Lions’ big bite:
10: In the words of White Goodman, “Prepare to be humiliated on public television.”
9: EA Sports was going to make a high school football video game, but every time Peachtree Ridge ran a play, it was an automatic touchdown. When asked about this glitch, the football team responded, “What glitch?”
8: We’re the youngest state finalist in 27 years. Destiny is on our side.
7: When we go to the game, we won’t meet Roswell there, we’ll beat Roswell there.
6: Our mascot can eat theirs.
5: Our defense has had five shutouts to Roswell’s two. Everybody knows defense wins championships.
4: Roswell thinks they are a Cinderella story, but we are the real one.
3: Phillip Davis will intercept Dustin Taliaferro even with his cast on.
2: Have you seen how big Cameron Heyward is? Seriously, have you seen Cameron Heyward? He is impossible to miss.
1: Our roster looks like a list of former NFL players’ sons.
Go on. Take Ten. Tell us why you think the Roar staff is right on about Da Ridge. Or why, if you’re a Roswell fan, you think they’re right off their rockers.

Sorry guys- As a Tift County Fan, we thought we had a pretty good football team, having won the toughest region in the state ( 1-AAAAA). Roswell is by far the best team we played against, and we got beat, fair and square. It won’t be close- Roswell will roll.

Its to bad that the AJC couldn’t ask Roswell their 10 reasons for beating “Peachtree Ridge”. We have been underrated all season, and it may be hard for some to get their foot out of their mouth on Sunday. GO HORNETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Referencing point # 6 - Why the hell would you want to eat a hornet? you have quite possibly come up with the most lame list anyone could imagine. I really dont know how this will motivate Roswell - I think their will be a “roaring” laughter throughout the halls of Roswell high school. I hope you get your “tails” handed to you. Congrats to the Roar editors for embarassing every kid in their school that isn’t as big a nerd as they are. Maybe they should worry about getting a prom date for next spring. As if there is even a chance of that happening.
Having this list posted on AJC is probly bittersweet for you editor dorks who came up with this because while it is very exciting, it is most likely the last time anyone will ever read your name anywhere (unless someone gets their hands on the Dungeons and Dragons fan club listing) Don’t worry you still get to work on the yearbook for next year. Don’t plan on being voted for in any of the senior superlatives categories. But hey, you will get to create the categories since you will be the first senior class at your school with no history what-so-ever.
So good luck this weekend. Im sure you are already busy filling empty milk jugs with lima beans - and of course taking a break here and there to update your internet blogs and work on your science fair projects. Way to pump of your team. If that list doesnt get a football team ready roll I don’t know what will.
All the best - Happy Holidays!

Some of those reasons were pretty good. Some were lame. But a little smack adds to the flavor for the game. And all that talk of locker room material is ridiculous - if either team has trouble getting motivated for a championship game, they officially don’t have a pulse!
After watching Roswell last Saturday, I do know they’re going to be our toughest test this year (which makes sense since this is the Finals!). Their diversified attack will offer more of a challenge than WR’s option run only offense. But I continue to say that the Lions’ defense will keep them close the whole game. And the Ridge’s offense has improved tremendously over the course of the season. We need for Brandon Davis to have a big game.
I’m not making any predictions, but it should be a heck of a game. I’ll see y’all at McEachern - I can’t wait!

Editor’s note: We asked the Roswell student newspaper advisor to have the staff submit their “Why We’ll Beat Peachtree Ridge” Take Ten list Tuesday at the same time that we asked the Ridge advisor and Roar staff for their submission. Roswell said they would send something via email. We didn’t get it until 3:25 p.m. today (Weds.) which was late for our noon Take Ten deadline for the online centerpiece.
We’ll centerpiece it on our metro high school index ASAP. Please understand that we’re a newspaper and we have deadlines to meet. Peachtree Ridge met our deadline fair and square so their list was posted first. Roswell’s will now follow. We can’t post what we don’t have.

wake up 1AAAAA, you’re still in denial. you are the toughest region in the state only in your mind. nobody outside of a few southern counties buy it. the rest of the pack has passed 1AAAAA. while you’re at HOME this weekend you can read the clippings of past glory days because 1AAAAA will continue on their AVERAGE spiral. better schedule more 3AAAAA teams in the future.

This has been a strange year in AAAAA. Are these the best two teams in the state? Neither are, but they are the last two standing and that’s what matters. Both won when they had to. Each played their game-of-the-year last week and that comes with winning championships. Lets hope this week’s hoopla and hype doesn’t go to their heads and they forget what got them there. Guys, keep your head on straight, your feet on the ground and stay away from any Brookwood parties. Hope you both play another game-of-the-year. Good luck to both teams.

Boo hoo. Jim is just sore because his team didn’t make the playoffs. Even though it’s only 4 years old, Ptree Ridge is excelling in football, basketball (top 10 ranking), and back to back state championships in cheerleading. Talented athletes and talented coaches are the reason. P’Ridge also won the Governor’s Cup for academic achievment thanks to intelligent students and talented teachers.
Don’t be so hateful. Maybe MCHS will be there one day.

Dreading a long drive home, I ended up sticking around last weekend and watching both AAAAA games. A few things I noticed: (1) Roswell and Peachtree Ridge were both stronger, quicker and (sorry) played smarter than Tift and Warner Robins (2) maybe this is a southern thing but when the pressure came, it appeared both Tift and WR players started fussing among themselves on the field (a team is doomed when that starts because they have lost focus at that point) (3)a number of, what I assume were, parents yelled some really boneheaded insults numerous times at their own coaching staffs. Guess those parents couldn’t handle the pressure either. Goodness sakes people, when everything is said and done, it’s still only a game.

defense does win championships but not when your offense is horrible… your offense is as cold as Antartica during a snow storm… i dont care if yall think u will win but we got the talent and ability to prove that we can get it done saturday night… ebele and dominique are gonna rock your o’s socks off and unless ur d can score i doubt yall will pull off a win… they say the lion is the king of the jungle but last time i checked we are in georgia which happens to be hornet territory.. see you in powder springs peachtree ridge… and oh by the way… for dinner we will be having some hello kitty.. and for dessert a little bit of some peach pie..

hey just to let all of yall know…the ajc has been wrong about peachtree ridge from the beginning. they have doubted us beyond belief. For every playoff game (except the semi-finals) they predicted we were going to lose. Um sorry ajc but look whos still in it!

Wishing both teams a great game and that is what the fans will get.
May the zebras have their glasses on. May the concessions not give us the squirts so we can watch the whole game. May the temperature and weather be tolerable. May the students sit more often so us older folks can see the game too. May the players play for personal and team pride, exhibit true sportmanship, and shake the hand of the losing team with an appreciation that losses can come on any day to any one.
Give your best and regardless of the outcome you will find self satisfaction. Savor the moment young men - whether you win or lose you are all champions. You will all be contenders again next year.
To the critics … Was there an undefeated team in the final rounds of the playoff ? Has no team here had a bad game (some had 4! ). Has no team benefited from luck now and then ?
May the better team win on Saturday night.

Here, Here Roswell Hornet Player Parent. I couldn’t of said it better! To be honest with you, we were just as happy that Roswell won as we were that we won. Could you imagine if Gwinnett County, had all of their great players on one team like some of these County schools. Whichever way you look at it win or lose, Peachtree Ridge and Roswell are playing with a lot of heart and maturity.

Hey Gwinnett schools: enjoy your time in the sun. Region 1-AAAAA is the toughest region in the state. We have the majority of the top 10 schools each week,(including two co-number 1 ranked teams for a couple of weeks this past season- Colquitt and Tift County) and we beat up on each other all season. Until Saturday night ends, Lowndes Co ( another 1-AAAAA school) is the defending state champs. Tift County will return next year. Oh yeah, and ever heard of Valdosta? Be thankful, Gwinnett fans, that you don’t have to play the brutal schedule we do. each week.

Dearest Phil, You need to get some help for that denial syndrome you have. Also in 1945 Army had the best team in college so what does that mean now…nothing. 1AAAAA football is now like women’s golf; competitive among themselves but don’t join the men’s circuit. You guys couldn’t even beat a team from frickin’ Utah and numerous times played down in classification; how embarrassing. 1AAAAA has been put on the porch, you can no longer run with the big dogs. If you haven’t noticed but during the last ten years the state football power has moved north.

We wish both teams and the fortunate fans who will be in attendance a great game. We were at the dome last week. We watched the Roswell/Tift game, Roswell looked like a well balanced disiplined team, as does PRHS. Hopefully both teams will play an excellent and hard fought game. Our hearts however, have to cheer for PRHS, our grandson #52 is an offensive lineman. We will watch via the internet. Good Luck PRHS. Tony & Marcia from Rhode Island

to to mj: “MJ you omitted, and bragging. Oh and it’s obvious you were not on the academic team. “
first of all. that first half doesnt even make sense. do you know what omitted means? it means to take out something. and bragging? no. informing. and no she wasnt on the academic team, but the academic team did not win the governor’s cup. the entire PEACHTREE RIDGE school did, students and teachers. thus, all this goes to show. a. you’re dumb. because you use big words without knowing their meaning. and b. you talk about things you have no clue about. so you go mj! shes exactly right! pr is 4th in the state in basketball, WITHOUT our football stars, including cameron, zack, sidney, and derrick. we do have back to back state cheerleading championship titles. we’re about to earn the football state title! all of our fall sports went to state championships this year, including softball and cross country! so you know what roswell. stick that in your pipe and smoke it. itll be a good game tonight, but the best will win. and come on. everyone knows pr is the best. :) maybe you didnt catch why we wanted roswell to win so bad. yall are beatable. thats why. so quit acting like you’re s. doesnt stink.
