No BCS: Tift Co. vs. Northside (WR) for the real state championship

In a rash decision, the GHSA has decided to implement the BCS philosophy to determine the state championship game. With a series of polls and computer programs, two teams will advance to the GHSA Championship Game. The remaining teams will be thrown into a multitude of meaningless bowl games.

OK … that’s not true, but what if it were? Out of the remaining teams which two should advance to the championship game? Should there be a provision to allow a team from a smaller classification a shot? All year long, we heard how Buford could beat most 5A teams. Does that make Charlton County deserving of a berth? And what about Northside (WR)?

If you believe the BCS worked correctly in pairing Florida and Ohio State, then you’d have to advance Tift County. The Blue Devils are the only remaining 5A team that won its region. That forces us to look into 4A, where we find two region champions in Marist and Northside. With one loss, Marist is out, leaving us with a Tift County-Northside championship game.

Early line: Northside – 10

I will be blogging live from the Peachtree Ridge-Warner Robins game Saturday night. Hope to hear from you then. **

Happy Holidays … David P.

Tift County football officials just read Steve’s comments and have decided not to make the trip to the Dome. Man I know people that have already left for the game.

David, nice topic. Charlton Co.is certainly a great team and could play with any team in the state. But I believe this is FINALLY going to be Northside’s year, keeping my fingers crossed. Tift Co. is a great team also. But if Northside were in Five A this year, they would still be the favorite. GO EAGLES!!!!

yeah Tift decided to just take the weekend off, so Roswell could be well rested before state title week. but you know Roswell would not have even broken a sweat in the Tift game anyway

Ya’ll northerners sure are sure of yourselves! I figured I would put in some of the southern slang, since you all may not be used to southerners coming up to your own turf and beating you, wait that nearly happens every year at about this time. How is it that there were 32 teams to begin with and only 5 of them were southern and there are still two left? After this weekend there may be two southern teams left again. I just hope Roswell takes us lightly, just as you are. That will make for a great butt whoopin’!!

By the way I caught those Tift fans before they got to the Dome. They were just passing Warner Robins and had pulled over. They said people on the Northside were walking hoisting trophies in the air already.

Well we have all established one thing Steve is missing a few screws. First of all if you all do beat Tift County it want be a cake walk me personally I have heard some of your own fans say that the HoCo game was you all’s best game of the season. Just ask NG what TC’s D-fence will do to your offence their great offence just mustard 60 total yards. I tell you what you bring you’re A game and we’ll see what happens. We aren’t taking you lightly and your team better not take us lightly or you’ll get scorched. GO DEVILS!!!

Well, we’re coming to Atlanta Saturday without a chance. We’re too small, too slow, can’t run, can’t throw, can’t catch, can’t kick, can’t block, can’t tackle, oh Lord you guys are gonna murder us poor little South Georgia scaredycats.Don’t worry about us STEVE, just prepare for next week.

hey guys we might not have won many state titles, but for the last four years we have been the dominent team in 4A and this year we are finally getting national considerations and are ranked number one in the state out of every class and every team.

I agree. Stephenson shut down those same wide receivers last year in the playoff. they were afraid to catch the ball if you hit them. Roswell will win.

I would have to go with Charlton Co. and Northside Warner-Robins as the best match-up for the “all-class” state championship. Of course, both of them could lose this weekend…but I highly doubt it.

We play football better than we sing. We better stop trying to sing, and worry about beating this Roswell team.

Northside is 2-0 against Region 1-AAAAA (Beat WR 28-7/ HO.CO. 26-14); Tift should be glad Northside stayed in AAAA this year, otherwise they would be 2nd in the region, not first. Watch this team play tonight and you will see.

Okay, the games have been played and the results are in, the once thought perrenial power houses failed to show up this weekend. Both Roswell and Peachtree Ridge put a lid on the trash talking from Tift and Warner Robbins respectfully. So the once dominate Region 1A in AAAAA is not as powerful as the voices would have liked them to be.

Sorry 1A, you played well and did what you could but both defenses from Roswell and Peachtree Ridge was simply to much to overcome. You had a great run and a very successful season, but for the chance to play for State rights, You can now plan for; maybe next year.
