Take Ten: Giving Thanks
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Isn’t this a great time of year? The leaves have changed to beautiful colors. The NFL is beyond the midway point and NCAA football is headed toward a crescendo — setting the pace for an exciting postseason. And you can almost smell the turkey and dressing for Thanksgiving dinner. With it also comes thoughts of appreciation and thankfulness. And when it comes to the purest of sports, it is impossible to not be grateful for high school football. And so, here’s my list of the top 10 reasons I’m thankful for high school football:
10: No need to get on a plane to cover a game.
9: Concessions stands are reasonably priced.
8: No elevators to the press box.
7: All games are outside (except Georgia Dome games), where football should be played.
6: The bands — especially Stephenson, S.W. DeKalb, Washington & Douglass.
5: No showboating allowed.
4: The entire community is involved.
3: Players play because of passion for the game.
2: So many life lessons are imparted.
1: Friday nights under the lights.
Go on. Take Ten. Tell us what you’re thankful for when it comes to high school football. And Happy Thanksgiving from the ajc.com/highschool sports staff.

I am thankful for the Heard County Braves being 11-0 on the year and having one of the top running backs in the state if not the number 1 back with over 2000 yards as a junior. I would be more thankful if the AJC knew this and would give him credit. Good Luck Heard County against Lovett.

Chad, you need to brush up on your Atlanta schools. Stephenson is in Stone Mountain, Campbell is in Symra, Peachtree Ridge and North Gwinnett are in Suwanne,Union Grove is in McDonough, Etowah is in Woodstock, ML King is in Lithonia, Brookwood is in Snellville; can you can guess where Norcross, Roswell and Grayson are located? Need help with Tift, Camden, WR, Hou County? If Coffee thinks they will beat an Atlanta school they better check again…as you can see there are no Atlanta schools left in the AAAAA brackets.

I too am thankful for the Heard County 11-0 season and also for Dontavius Jackson, the best running back in the state. I also question why the ajc hasn’t recognized his great season with the Braves. Go Braves!

1.) I’m thankful for the Mays High School Raiders Football Team making the 2nd round of the playoffs. VICTORY
2.) I’m glad the Mays High School Band is still getting down and playing their team on to VICTORY.
3.) Last but not least, I’m thankful for the Mays High School Varsity Cheerleaders, encouraging the crowd to engage in cheers and to cheer the Raiders on to VICTORY.
I’m Proud of that Blue & Gold School On The Hill

Curtis: I am so thankful for all the coaches of our student-athletes who put in so much time teaching and coaching them about sports and life. Georgia is blessed with coaches who have made so many good impressions on their young players, and I guarantee you these coaches cry real tears when one of their players moves on, or does something good later in life, and especially when they do something bad. I thank these coaches for making the sacrifice they do to turn these young boys into men and productive citizens. God Bless you all, coaches!

Yes we are thankful for the great season that the Heard County Braves have had thus far. They are far from a one man team, as some would think. Some times the strength of their team gets overlooked “The O-Line”. It’s massive and rarely unseen at a small, rural AA school. By the way the coaching staff ain’t to bad either. So GOOD LUCK & GO BRAVES GO!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody has ever seen Mays band let alone hear them. Do yall call that crowd of people in Canary Yellow and Powder blue a marching band? Ha! Bunn did it right by saving the best band for last and u already know, we’ve been spanking yall for years. Why everytime Mays have a good season, they don’t play Doug that season??
