Which Gwinnett star will have the best college career?

Which current Gwinnett high school star will have the best college career? Here’s the top three, but—as I’m sure you fine folks will point out—there are plenty more. Maybe even a few studs outside of Gwinnett, like in South Georgia. Nah …

Brookwood linebacker Rennie Curran: The Liberian Nightmare is fast, strong, smart … what’s not to like? He’ll likely be the next standout, hard-hitting defensive back at Georgia. After seeing Tennessee light up Georgia’s secondary, Mark Richt likely wouldn’t mind having him suit up this week.

Peachtree Ridge defensive tackle Cameron Heyward: Elite defensive linemen are prized commodities on the next level. Heyward’s athleticism reminds some of LSU menace Glenn Dorsey. He’ll have a big impact and a chance to play on Sundays.

Greater Atlanta Christian running back Caleb King: Dacula coach Kevin Maloof once saw a clip of King and nearly dropped the remote. “He made about four guys miss and never moved more than a couple feet. He’s the real deal,” said Maloof, who, having coached Auburn’s Kenny Irons, knows a little bit about big-time college backs.

Been out of town and just getting a chance to catch up on the blogs. Just a correction for you, David, regarding your online column of two weeks ago: Wheeler took Chattahoochee to the woodshed, at their place, not the other way around. It would appear you were anxious to diss Roswell by dissing Wheeler, but facts are more useful when making your case.

I think there are a few more seniors at Da Ridge that will have a successful College career. Cameron is a beast on both the defensive and offensive line and equally so down low on the basketball court. But there are other seniors that will do very well in college. Phillip Davis was recently recognized by the governor for his high acheivement on the SAT test and has shown his skills and prowess on both sides of the ball, also (committed to Navy). Then there is Zach Graham, a skilled senior quarterback standing 6’5” and can throw the deep pass with ease, not to mention his ability to run. He is also a star basketball player (committed to Ole Miss). In addition, you have Sidney Haynes, a star receiver and basketball player (committed to Central Florida). Cameron gets a lot of publicity and rightfully so, but there are other seniors along with him who are worth their weight in gold.

There are some really good players at the Ridge, but the article is talking about who the best player will be at the next level. Did you forget Zach Graham was your second string QB coming in to the season? There is a reason for that, great basketball player…but an athlete playing QB. Cameron Heyward is the best at the Ridge and I think he will be the best in this class 4 or 5 years from now.
