Jaguars register biggest win ever

Curtis Bunn

In Stephenson’s football history, mark Friday night as the moment its program truly arrived to prominence. The impressive years of high rankings cannot be dismissed, but they were mere indicators of the Jaguars’ potential. Now, it is confirmed: They are legit.

On a cool, crisp night when a full moon illuminated the sky, Stephenson defeated Parkview to get to the Georgia Dome. Considering that the Panthers have been one of the best programs in the state during the past seven years or so, the 20-7 victory was the Jaguars’ validation.

For years, lots of folks have been waiting for Parkview-Stephenson. Well, maybe it was just me. Whatever the case, there was a whole lot of buildup for a meeting that turned out to be anticlimactic: The Jaguars handled the Panthers with relative ease.

There have been significant victories in Ron Gartrell’s outstanding tenure as Stephenson’s coach. None bigger than Friday night. After his team got whacked by Brookwood in the season-opener at the Dome, everyone but Gartrell and his staff panicked. Instead, he redoubled his commitment to hard work and tough play, and now the Jaguars return to the Dome a far different team.

Friday confirmed it. When was it apparent this was Stephenson’s moment? When the prolific Marcus Ball, serving as punter, launched a kick 48 yards and out of bounds at the 1. The defense held on three downs. The offense, inexplicably ignoring the running game, did not gain a yard on three passes.

Back to punt again, Ball instead took off running up the right side, across the field, bumping into a teammate and knocking him down before spinning and diving into the end zone for a dramatic touchdown.

Stephenson led 13-0, and in the process, Ball cemented himself as the best player in Georgia. A phenomenal linebacker last year and a devastating safety this season, Ball affects the game just as much when he fills in part time as a running back — and even did damage as a punter Friday night, too.

Simply, he’s a playmaker and leader. And his control of emotions typifies how far Stephenson has come as a disciplined group. The Jaguars did not get outwardly frustrated when a series of questionable calls late in the third quarter nullified big plays. Instead of whining, Stephenson continued to play — and give the ball to Ball.

On second-and-20, he got 22 yards. Then he dismissed would-be tacklers for another 25 yards, to the Parkview 15. Finally, he went 3 yards for his third touchdown and the exclamation point. It was 20-0 with 8:48 to play and all over for Parkview.

At least for me, this was not a surprise. The Panthers had shown vulnerability all season. But to say it was a down year for the Panthers would be a disservice to the players who competed with a determined heart.

The reality is when you are Parkview, you get the opponent’s best game each week, which is a challenge for any program.

And even with the victory, Stephenson is still trying to be what Parkview has been four times over — champions.

Friday night was a monumental step. It is not a title, but you have to get to the semifinals in order to have a chance at all. For sure, it’s much harder to get there than it is to win one game.

Having finally cleared that quarterfinal hurdle, the Jaguars have legitimized all their fine play over the years. Rest assured, however, now that they have a date at the Dome, the Jaguars are not content just to finally get there.

Congratulations Jaguars!!!!!!!!

Here is something new to chew on for you now that you have disposed of the Panthers. “HALF TIME” results at Lowndes with Central Gwinnett.

Lowndes-35 and Central Gwinnett-0. At “HALF TIME” Lowndes had 293 yards of Offense. I repeat “At HALF TIME”. Put that with the best defense in the state and now you know what the results will be. At Lowndes we use all 22 football players. It is called “TEAM”. Actually, we usually get to use about 50 or 60 players. The second and third string (for the second week in a row) took over pretty much the whole second half and won 3-0. A little taste for Gwinnett of 1AAAAA football. The games were tougher before the playoffs began. HMMMMMMM!!!!!! Is this the same Stephenson that the “#4” seed from 1AAAAA almost beat? Remember Stephenson-6 and Tift-3. And was that Brookwood having a tough time of it tonight at Stars Mill?????

Congradulations Stephenson for getting over the hump. Now it’s time to show those arrogant South Georgian’s how to play football. They have not been hit in the mouth all season. You better belive Stephenson the first in line to do so. oh yeah. The Jags are for real. And for the guy who said Lowndes uses 22 players. That is so untrue. We use 22 players- I hear in the south you guys use 23. the extra players are the refs… At the end of the day, it’s our time to shine.Take the back seat.. -DeKalb County Football is back in business. “The best area for football” Now put that in your tabbacco and chew it….

Congrats to the Jaguars. You played a strong game and you deserved the win. Panthers had a great season and should not be ashamed of anything. I look forward to seeing the future Panther programs. Don’t get it twisted…..our feeder programs are LOADED with cubs. A message to the other programs: enjoy your minute in the sun! The Panther Nation is developing as we speak! We will see ya’ll EVERY year in the post season march to the dome! BELIEVE THAT!

Douglas, Union Grove, Central Gwinnett

I know a lot of folks are caught up in the paper trail of stats, etc… but I’m one for you have to show up and play EVERY time.

I do think our Vikes will be extremely focused…they have the opportunity to make history for the school, themselves in “possibly” playing for and winning a 2nd in a row State Championship… BUT

Stephenson stands in the way next Saturday. Having played us and some of the schools y’all have played… If both teams bring the A game… how do the Vikes do against the Jags ?

Much love to Stephenson Jaguars and Coach Gartrell. I have been a great fan of the program for many years. I couldn’t wait to call my daughter, a Stephenson alum, to tell her Stephenson beat Parkview!!! It has been a long time coming, and it was a sweet victory last night. Squid, you really showed your talents. Much love to you, too. Now young ‘uns, its time to “do you” at the Dome so you all can bring it back home to DeKalb. See you at the Dome!!!

Stephenson has shown, for years, they can win games. When are they ever going to show something close to class or sportsmanship? The behavior of the players, the band, and the cheerleaders is not only a reflection of the coaches but of the administration as well. You want to play with the big boys? Show some class!

Stephenson beat a Parkview team that should noy have been where they were in my opinion. Mr Bunn finally gets his victory that he has been looking for. Stephenson played a great game but their teams cant hold a flame to Parkview remember that Stephenson until you win the big one your just a good team. Tonight you were the better team and you beat my beloved Panthers congratulations. I hope you get by Lowndes and get to play Brookwood again b/c Gwinnett football is the most dominating region in football…….

After watching Stephenson dismantle the vaunted Panther offense and stifle running back Caleb (#4), I am convinced that people throughout the state, especially in south Georgia, underestimate the Jaguar defense. The reference that Lowndes plays “team” football leads me to believe that he/she thinks Stephenson doesn’t play as a team and is a squad full of one-man shows which does a disservice to these dedicated young men who sweat, bleed and ultimately win together. Lowndes, Camden, Valdosta, Statesboro and other South Georgia teams does not own a patent on team football. They sound like a bunch of “Urban-Haters” if you get my meaning. If your Lowndes “team” defeats Stephenson it will be because you executed your game plan better and played better on that given day. Same for Stephenson. BUT IT WON’T BE BECAUSE EITHER SCHOOL HAS A MORE COHESIVE “TEAM” !!

I was waiting for some clown from “tha ATL” to play the race card, and good ole Jag-off Jonah didn’t let me down.

No, JJ, us South Georgia hicks aren’t “urban haters”. However, I must admit, we don’t have a whole lot of respect for trash-talking underachievers.

And, let’s face it, JJ, Stephenson has the most underachieving football program in the state. Year after year, the Jags field a team loaded with D-I prospects, and year after year, they get their BEhinds handed to them by teams that have less talent but are MUCH more well-coached.

Such a consistent lack of discipline and class on the football field would embarass most teams, but the Jags and their fans seem to revel in it. Guess y’all are just “keepin’ it real”, huh?

In the meantime, enjoy your win over Parkview’s worse team in years. It’ll be the last one you get to enjoy in 2005.

The first thing Mr Bunn the score was 20-14 not 20-7. Get the facts straight. Next savor this week. Stephenson will be humiliated next week. I predict 42-7 Lowdnes. And last but not least. If you ever want to see what a championship rng looks like email me sometime. Ive got 3. How many does Stephenson have. Oh i know 000. Dont insult us by comparing Stephenson to Parkview. In the past 5 years only ONE Dekalb school has EVER beat Gwinnett. And for that you think Dekalb is better. Get a lfe Bunn

every one from south goergia saying the same thing those parkview fans where saying. dont speak too soon cause parkview was dominated all game, and those 14 points came late in the fourth quarter after we made subs putting ninth graders in, so for all you out there making yo little 42-7 lowndes predections really sound crazy cause our D is to physical and focus to let any one else put up 42 points on us, but every thing will show saturday at 6 in the dome.

Some of you with the negative comments about South Georgia football, about North Georgia football, and the race baiting, socio-economic class baiting, please get a grip…Remember that “all of these young people” are pouring their hearts out weekly on the field and in the classroom…Each of you should show some “class” by remembering that these are 14 to 18 year olds who are trying hard to be students, athletes, and young men…So please don’t denegrate Stephenson or Parkview football or North Georgia or South Georgia football…We are not “leading by example” when we do such things…Just because kids are excited because they win doesn’t mean they’re not classy (referring to Stephenson’s celebration )and how can the writer “The Essence of Manhood” say somebody pulled the “race” card when none of the entries before his mentioned race in any way. I think kids from different racial backgrounds are on many of our teams in the state now…Enjoy the fact that Georgia football is still played at a high level and we have great teams from every region…And stop the senseless criticism of kids (from all backgrounds) who are trying to become leaders of the future—on the field and off the field—and congratulate THEM ALL for jobs well done. Now that would be really showing class!

Congrats to Stephenson, Parkview, Lowndes, and all the schools still working hard to excel at high levels!!!!!

First of all congrats to stephenson, they are a great team. I am glad that Curtis Bunn finally got the win he has been predicting every year, he was bound to get it right at some point. Also, Parkview is one of the best teams in the last seven years? One of them? 11 quaterfinal appearances in a row! 4 state championships, appearing in 6. Who’s been better in the last decade. If stephenson wins the state championship, bunn will crown them best team of the millenium

Congrats to the Griffin Bears. Good Luck againsT a fine Statesboro team at the Dome. GHS is clcking strong at the right time. Hopefully all the distractions from getting there the first time wont be too much for these well coached highly talented student athletes. I guess since we are considered “Central Georgia” or even “South Metro” we can go urban or southern style….what difference does all that make? It’s all about the ATTITUDE. GO BEARS!!

How about giving the jags their credit. Parkview fans or should I say non stephenson fans were saying that parkview was going win against The jags non-disciplined team. You attacked our character and our ability to compete, but now it was a down year for parkview last time I checked they had 10 wins and were ranked in the state. Who’s got the next excuse for the jags being in the semi. We have individuals that piggyback off of storylines and emails from last week. Don’t you think that the jags are use to your insults by now. Helpful hint Don’t let your mouth write a check that your kids can’t cash.

Dekalb Alum, I think you are talking about the inhospitable atmosphere at the game on friday. Its called home field advantage. I pretty sure that at your home field you have never rolled out the red carpet for the visiting team. Besides the opposing team turned up the thermostat with their comments, so when you lose or things don’t go your way don’t try to turn it down. Please remember this is a football game, the players and parents were insulted last week so I guess its the coaches and administrators time this week.

I’m a Jag band parent and it’s good to see us win. Parkview you must give it to them they have an hell of a program. As a true view of our team we did grow just a bit as Mr. Bunn said by not getting down on our team mates after a team makes a big play. We need to take that lesson on from this point forward. The Jags have lost big games with that lack of growing. I talked with one of the defensive players and that is what has kept us from being better than we are now. The talent is there, but if you can’t work together teams will pick you apart everytime. Coach we need to work on that! GO JAGS GO SONIC SOUND

I have been going Stephenson games for years and they have always been sound football team. I was at the game Friday and they dominated the Panthers—-no contest. I have seen many different teams this year all over the state. As much as I love Stephenson football, they and their fans will be in for a shock in the Dome. Sorry Jag Fans… Lowndes is on another level with speed and size that can match Stephenson. They have more depth in positions than any other team (other than Camden Co.) in the state. They beat their teams in the first half usually and play their second & third string in the second half. It will be a long night for Stephenson. I will not say more and let the football game speak for itself. But I will still cheer for Stephenson.

Corey, we beat that same Valdosta football team by 4 touchdowns and we were not nerely the football team then that we are now. Right now, Lowndes is a better football team than the state championship team of last year. The defensive line, where we lost some very good football players to graduation started off slow, but they have now become very possibly the strength of the Lowndes team. I’m telling you, Lowndes is improving week by week and peaking as a team to the point that it is scary. But don’t take my word for it, be at the dome and see for yourself.

BOTH SHS BASKETBALL TEAMS ARE RANKED HIGH.AND YET THE SCHOOL IS NOT EVEN TEN YEARS OLD…COMPARED TO GCSC’S THAT ARE HOW OLD? OH AND NOT TO MENTION THE MIDDLE SCHOOL HAS WON THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. Supaman, you want to know the real deal? I sat about three rows up from everybody’s boy Jeff Francoeur and when Stephenson went ahead 20-0, he packed it up and headed for the exit!! I guess Marcus Ball reminded him too much of himself! I’ve seen Parkview play at least 10 times in the last five years and I’ve never seen fans leave early. Parkview was overmatched. Stephenson was bigger, stronger and much, much faster. Anyone who watched with an objective eye saw it. Nothing more to say about it.

Michael of Marietta,

I just left Kingsland, where Camden was dominated by Dacula. Camden’s offense is a joke. You commented, that I was crazy if I did not believe that Camden’s QB is better than he was last year. Well, I am here to tell you that he is the most irrelevant person on Camden’s team. He hands off left, hands off right. No speed, no arm, no offense. They have so much confidence in him, they handed the ball off on 3rd & 17. Lowndes 3rd team QB has more talent. You had the 100% part correct, 100% worse than last year. Camden scored with 4 minutes left in the game , after they blocked a punt on Dacula’s 19. They then ran a double reverse to score. Desperation! Camden highly overrated. Lowndes AAAAA defending state champions, and soon to be reigning state champs!

This reply is for powbeech. Last week you were pulling for an all south georgia final(valdosta II vs. Camden) now you just got Valdosta II. By the way name three teams for your region that have been ranked in state at the same time this year. Valdosta I, Valdosta II, and ah ah nobody. In two years tift county will win your pathetic region. Just in case you are wondering Stephenson, Douglass, and Riverdale were all ranked at the same time. By the way every team we sent to the playoffs had winning records out of that pathetic 2AAAA. Can you say the same? All of Atlanta, Dekalb, Fulton and Clayton needs to come out and support the teams from the metro area. Lets make the dome as hospitable as Lowdnes would make the concrete jungle.

By Yo

Corey, Valdosta II bad for “your” tails. If all of Atlanta piled into the dome and pulled for you guys, it would be the quietest the city of Atlanta has ever been by half time. Also, I know 3 and maybe even 4 teams were ranked in the Top 10 from 1AAAAA at one time this year. Before they started beating up on each other. And that’s a region with only 6 teams in it. Of course, that’s discounting the AJC polls that only puts Atlanta teams in to sell more papers. By the way, didn’t we go head to head with your so called 3 teams in the Top 10 region in the first round of the playoffs? If I remember right, only your #1 team could squeeze by our #4 team 6-3. The rest did not make it to the second round. Kind of prooves my point about the AJC Top 10 poll doesn’t it!!!!!!!!!!!

Quotes taken directly from the AJC article “Lowndes Hammers Central Gwinnett”.
The Region 8 No. 3 seed, Central (9-4) played Parkview and Brookwood, but Lowndes, Warren said, was the best team he’s faced. Central quarterback Trip Pognant said the team didn’t play its best game, but Lowndes had a lot to do with that.

“They were fast, and they were swarming to the ball,” Pognant said. “We couldn’t break many tackles on that team. Once they hit you ? they brought the wood. They hit you, wrapped up and you were pretty much going down.” Be wise and listen to those who know. Central’s coach and QB.

Apparently the ajc sells newspapers down south since you read it so much. By the way you only had two teams there at anytime this year and it was not a case of everyone beat each other it was the top two teams beating everyone else, and if you had listen to previous emails you would have seen that valdosta II only beat tift by a touchdown. Besides how many teams are left from south ga? Here’s a suggestion if you want to expand the size of your region just cut up valdosta two more times, you only have 1000 miles to the next school district.

Corey,

Your posts are so unoriginal. Typical of a sick, twisted, freak. Every time you open your mouth you prove the other sides point. What a loser, just like the next team that steps on the field with Lowndes. It is the Lowndes High Vikings. Get it right punk and show some respect for the 2004 & 2005 AAAAA state champs. After Lowndes hoses the next Region 2 team, Region 1 will have single-handedly eliminated Region 2. Put that in the region 2 record books. Think on that a while Perv.

michael in marietta. Camden co scored another touchdown against Dacula in the last two minutes that was called back. Also the ghsa is going to have to answer some questions on allowing the game to be moved to saturday. Charlton co our neighbor tried to get their game moved and couldn’t. They had to cancel school on friday to allow those working in the system the chance to go to buford. ghsa said educational concerns was why they moved the game. Guess closing school in folkston did not constitute educational concerns. Camden just waited to late to open up their offense or they would have beat dull Dacula. camden’s qb threw the touchdown pass that was called back. Brookwood 28 Dacula 7 in the dome. lowndes 35 stepehnson 7. stepenson was the most unsporstmanlike team to ever come to camden and play. if it is the urbanness that caused this they need to take a pill and cure themselves.

Robert I was not even focused on you until you said something stupid. Go to the closes library near the trailer park you live in and check out a thesaurus or a dictionary. What is urbaness? Apparently, they excused you from school too often. I heard your QB/PG is sure thing to make the basketball tryouts next week. Ha Ha!! Is that the only thing you can find fault in? Stephenson gets unsportsmanlike penalties, we know after one million emails on this site. Is there anything else you can think of like the jags record 12-1, one of best defenses in the state, or a history of sending student/athletes to schools on a free education, or may be just because we are still in the hunt for the AAAAA championship. I still like the basketball crack that was a hoot.

Corey, every time you eat a bite of steak or a good piece of fried chicken after Sat. night, just remember the branding us’n chicken farmers and plowboys from the country called S.Ga. put on your tail. We’s is gonna slaughter the Stepson Jaguars just lak we doos ours herds. Fast and painfully. It’ll be as easy as slicing through a good tender steak filet with a freshly sharpened knife. Ooh! I gets hungry every times I go to thanking about it.

Corey, Let’s see, you send a lot of “student/athletes to get free educations” according to your own words. Congratulations. That means “after” they leave Stephenson they “finally” learn to live up to their capabilities. They obviously aren’t doing it on the football before they leave Stephenson. I think that is called no matter what area of Ga. you live in “underachiever”. I wouldn’t be announcing that fact on email if I were you. Unless it is all you have in life to be proud of.

Some people try to pretend but really are that simple. You should try skipping a couple of generations before you inpregnate family members. The only brand are like is the one on my arm and over my heart, but that is something you would not understand. My grandpa has some land in south ga. and he would never allow migrant workers there, whose chicken farm did you squat on?

I see Corey. Now the truth comes to light. So now we know your true heritage. I can see why all the anger that you display. You are mad at your grandpa. Obviously your grandpa kicked your butt out of S. Ga. and it is pretty understandable as to why. Also explains why you know so much about chicken farming. Forgive your grandpa Corey, his motives were pure. Not to mention sensible.

Corey, they say Atlanta smells something like a chicken farm. Speaking of migrating, I can see why you migrated to Atlanta. Your nose took you there. They also say once you’ve lived on a chicken farm you can never get rid of the smell. So when I get a whiff of that smell coming from the Stephenson side of the Dome, I’ll know you are there. Or will that just be the stink coming from the smell of your football team after Lowndes makes them look like chicken poop? Might be hard to tell them apart.

Jaguars:

The only thing that I was wrong about was thinking Camden Co. would reach the semifinals but I feel time will bare out my prediction that Lowdnes Co. will beat Stephenson and move on to win the State Championship. I understand that you are reacting like a fan and on shear emotions. Remember, I am a Jag fan too but I must face reality. It will be the most intense opposition that Stephenson has faced this year with lots of hard hitting South Ga. style. Kinda like what Marcus Ball was doing on last Friday nite times 22 Lowdnes players (total team effort).

By Corey

Michael Michael, if you are a jags fan then act like one, pick a side stay there. Don’t congratulate us one minute then side with the opposition the next. I wonder what you’ll be talking about on next sunday. Example: Jags did a great job at stopping Valdosta II, but they’re are going to lose against brookwood/dacula because they play with 22 players. Last time I checked every team played with 22 players on Off./Def., are you saying that the other 12 teams we beat had less. Last time I checked Tift County, East Coweta, and Parkview all had 22 players. When you make those comments you belittle what those teams accomplished. Matter of a fact, speak the truth your not really a jag fan, you really a snake in the grass ready to strike. I know your type.

Excuse Michael of Marrietta for speaking over your head Corey. I think everyone else who reads his post knows exactly what he said and understands his point. It was very clear. Precise. Easy to read. And well to the point. No confusion at all for the literate. So, keep reading it and maybe it will eventually sink into your head also. Also, Michael of Marietta understands “the Truth will set you free”. You should learn from him. It would be life changing for you. Denying ones chicken farming past and losing future is not good. Be free Corey. Be free. C’mon man, Be free!!! You can do it!!!! Be Free!!!!!

Curtis, you’ve been waiting for this moment since 2002 when Parkview made you look like an idiot. The “prolific” Marcus Ball is an extremely overrated product of publicity with the behavioral tendencies of a hyena. You’re a misinformed, delusional little man, Mr. Bunn.

By mesue

November 21, 2005 01:12 AM | Link to this

Congratulations Stephenson for the big win Friday night. Congratulations also to Curtis Bunn for finally getting to write what he’s been wanting to write for at least 5 years now. Curtis couldn’t write about before now because the fact is Stephenson was never GOOD ENOUGH to compete with or against Parkview. Stephenson always managed to get beat in the 2nd or third round. In 2000 Collins Hill ended their season in the “MUD BOWL” that Stephenson called home. 2001 a mediocre Valdosta ended their season in the third round at Memorial stadium again Stephenson’s house. And the list goes on. Fact Is As I stated Stephenson was never good enough to get to play Parkview.

But there’s more than one team in Gwinnett County that is going to be at the Dome. Dacula who is ver underated and Brookwood who is a real dirty word to Mr. Bunn and Stephenson. Remember game 1 in the Corky Kell. Too bad Brookwood and Dacula have to play in the Semi Finals. ther wise they would be meeting each other in two weeks for the Championship game. As it is Stephenson, enjoy this week and your FIRST trip to the semi’s. It won’t last long but Saturday night will seem like an eternity when Lowndes is kicking your rears back to Dekalb County.

The championship is Brookwoods to lose. Pure and simple no one can beat Brookwood other than Brookwood. It will take a great game against Lowndes and a great game it will be.

I was at the game Friday night on the sidelines. I will say that someof you that were there hit the nail on the head. Stephenson definately has no class. They did start getting mad at each other and should have been flagged after Caleb broke lose and OUTRAN Marcus Ball for his first touchdown in the 4th quarter. Stephenson stood in the center of the field arguing with each other. But what would anyone expect from a team that is so revered by Curtis Bunn. I called Curtis Bunn, Curtis Bumm a couple of years ago and Mr. Curtis got so upset he emailed me and asked me to apologize no, demanded I apologize to him. I told him I would and he said he would also. Well Mr. BUNN I did apologize but you, you never did. There you go. It takes class to do what you say even if it was deserved and no class not to do what you say. Stephenson, Stephenson’s Fans, their Band, and Mr. BUNN, none of them would know class if it looked them straight inthe eye. It did Friday night. It’s called Parkview.

Do yourself a favor Mr. Bunn. Write the whole story and the whole truth. Questionable calls against Stephenson? What about catching the ball from center on you knee and the ref’s ignoring the call. Even when I watched my recorded tape of the game the announcers agreed and showed it several times. The great Marcus Ball’s knee was on the ground when he caught the ball to punt it. The rules are, the knee down the play is over. Parkview’s ball on the Stephenson 26. What about the wierd ending or never ending to the third quarter. Stephenson got three free plays for Offensive penalties. The quarter or half or game ends on Offensive penalties. It does not end and the offense get a free play on a Defensive penalty at the end of the quarter or half. What about the Stephenson players deliberantly taking out number 71 for Parkview by Chop Blocking him twice. Trying to end a young mans furture on purpose is definately no class. It was on purpose because that is another thing the Stephenson players were arguing about. They couldn’t keep him from making the tackles so they took his knee out. Oh yea, while he [number 71] was laying on the field the mighty Stephenson band played the death march for him. another touch of class.

Yep, Stephenson got to the Semi Finals by beating a Parkview Team who by Parkview standards was very sup par. That is a great feat though because even a Sub Par Parkview is still one of the top ten teams in the state. So Gloat and Brag and crown Stephenson one of the best teams ever. Afterall they have been in your eyes for several years now. I have to agree with several others who made comments. For a team and a school that has been loaded with D1 prospects year after year they surely must have been poorly coached not to have ever made it to the Semi’s much less the Big Dance. Big dreams, big goals, under-acheiving the new standards for a truly great program. The same standards that the AJC has for some writers. Right Mr. Bunn?

November 21, 2005 04:16 AM | Link to this

from what I just read you are a hater, and that chop block was clean it was above the knee, even the commentator said it was, so jump off of our back and stop making excusses why parkview lost because one play couldnt help them win even their own players after the game came up to our team and praised us.

You say we have no class?? You didnt stick around after the game when both teams congradulated each other on their season and actually talked to each other so you can shut up you idiot.

I guess you all forget this is high school football and hate to see stephenson win, well get over it we are here to stay and like we say “WE DONT REBUILD, WE RELOAD”.

so even if we dont win state(be at memorial stadium in two weeks for state) we will have players in the NFL while your school will have players in 9-5 jobs in your community.

By mesue

November 21, 2005 06:41 AM | Link to this

big gossa - ever heard the term, “A hit dog hollars”?

Let’s see, ‘We don’t rebuild, We reload” has been used by Sports Writers about Parkview and Buford for about 10 years but was originally used in this state for the great teams of Valdosta dating back 50 years or so.

By the way, being in the NFL doesn’t pave the way for your beloved Stephenson to continue to educate and field teams. The 9 to 5 people and jobs do.

Try to read the words and remember them and use them and don’t add anything. There are no excuses made for the loss. Just stated the facts. In case you haven’t heard, there is no such thing as a “Clean Chop Block”. That’s why it is called a chop block.

I did congratulate Stephenson for their “Biggest Win Ever” as CB called it in his article. I made no excuses for Parkview just stated the facts.

Last, I will not revert to name calling like you did. I don’t have to. You pretty much showed your class just like I stated in what I wrote.

Oh, it is customary for teams to shake hands at the end of the game. Yes Parkview did congratulate Stephenson’s players on the win and their season and wished them luck in the Dome. But very few Stephenson players did the same for the Parkview players.

Remember, history shows that Parkview will be back. 12 straight Quarter-finals is proof enough. Stephenson’s history? Oh that’s right this is the FIRST time in the Dome. History shows Stephenson will make it to the 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, etc. See history don’t lie.

emma sue, I have been to parkview games where your fans chanted goodbye after the game was over. Everyone talks about class and doing the right thing, but parkview and brookwood recruit players from other school districts every year. Sounds like you are one up on everyone in class and sportsmanship. By the way is caleb still living off of columbia drive in dekalb county or does gwinnett have a minority too majority program that goes across county lines. I’m sorry you did not get a couple of calls during the game, but its called home field advantage. Parkview knows a little about that how many times have you won games because of no calls. I’m sorry if your son or boyfriend #71 was injured may be he should have taken up checkers or backgammon something a little less physical. Question was your team sub par last week before they lost. Good luck with basketball tryouts this week.

Supaman, Corey, Jaguars, Wow how sensative we are. I don’t hate anybody or anything. I don’t even dislike any thing or anyone especially any High School or their Team. You all fail to realize it is YOU that has gotten upset and called me names not me calling you or anyone names. Go back and read my first post. I Congratulated Stephenson for winning the game. I made no excuses or anything for anyone. I just stated the facts and that is the truth. And that is what has you all so upset, the TRUTH! Of course it is said the “Truth Hurts”.

Just for the record my comments were directed to Mr. Bunn and his idea of a Championship Program.

Just for the record. I did not go to Parkview or any other Gwinnett school and have no affiliations with any. I have no son’s playing for any and no daughters playing or cheering for any. I just like HS Football and I know where the best has been played for the last 10 years or so. I see a lot of High School games every season all over the state and I am always on the sideline.

Speaking of hate. Mr. Bunn obviously hates Gwinnett County HS Sports. He absolutely loaths having to write anything about any of them when they win another championship. Reference his articles on Collins Hill Girls Basketball. Three championships since 2000 and yet Stephenson’s girls program is the best in the state. So you see it is Stephenson for Bunn and nothing in Gwinnett.

And once again, Congratulations to Stephenson for the biggest win in the history of their program.

Yes, before Friday’s loss Parkview was “Sub-Par by Parkview Standards”.

Good Lord! I wish everyone could just stop all the bickering and bashing and just talk sensably to each other in a nice respectful conversation. And I say Just wait till the kids play the games and praise them for what they do on the field as well academically in the classrooms of our schools. Every thing will be decided on game day. As I always say, don’ be to shure of any thing, you might just get the biggest surprise of your life. It seems to me as if everone is forgetting the saying, on any given day! No matter how good a team is or great a person is, they can be laced with misfortune. Any one can loose at any given time. Though it’s not fair, thats the way life is sometimes it will bring you down when you least expect. Sometimes being to sure can can bring an unpleasant and devistating outcome. I leave you with this, be carefull of your mindset when assesing anything for it might not turn out the way you thought or think it will. Congrates to all the teams which have advanced to the semi-finals “IN THE DOME” Good Luck!

I know what the problem is. You all can’t understand how a school that is only in its 10th year of existence can be so dominate in the sports arena. Sure it’s our first appearance in the dome, but everyone has a first time so get off of that. Also I do believe that in the AJC a few weeks ago (Nov. 12)there was a Parkview student in the paper celebrating a close victory. See, if Parkview fans run out on field and jump for joy it is called celebration. If Stephenson fans do the same thing and crank up a song from the World Renown Sonic Sound Marching Band it is called not having any class. I take offense when you say we don’t have class. You would celebrate to if you were called everything but stellar athletes all week and you got out there and proved you belong. Oh, and after P-view took that beating, what was said? That Parkview was a sub-par team this year. I disagree. STEPHENSON WAS JUST A BETTER TEAM. I have nothing against Parkview, they have a great program, but we have been over looked for years. It is our time to shine and we will stand and deliver. Hats off to the Coaching Staff, Band Staff and Teachers and Administrators at Stephenson. Keep up the good work. Oh, and by the way, how many schools do you know that have 6 State Championships(5 track & field, 1 basketball)and numerous region titles within the first 10 years? Not many. Good luck to all the teams that made it to the dome. I usually don’t respond to the blog, but the ignorance has been so great over the past two weeks that something had to be said.

Hey Teach - Collins Hill in it’s first ten years [they are in their 12th year now] won 17 State championships in sports. Wrestling, Cross Country, Swimming, 3 Ladies Basketball, track and field, look it up. Also look this up in ghsa. I believe it is a total of 74 championships won by gwinnett schools in sports in the last ten years and 57 of those were won by Collins Hill, Brookwood, and Parkview. That was in a AJC article at the start of the school year which referenced the GHSA site for the records.

OK, Dacula requested that the game be moved to Saturday so that our band and our fans - students, parents and teachers - could make it to the game. We can’t just close down the entire school for a football game. We pretty much filled our side of the stadium. And boy was it fun to watch!

The request was made through the GHSA and they approved it. I don’t know why another request would have been denied unless you are just out of the loop on what really went on with Charlton Co. The GHSA won’t have to answer any question, they followed the rules.

Of course, Camden had the same amount of time to prepare and play for a Saturday game. Oh wait, they had more because they weren’t on the bus for most of Friday. Guess preparation isn’t overrated.

The “touchdown” that Camden scored was called back on a holding penalty, so it wasn’t really a touchdown at all.

Indeed, if there are any questions to be asked, maybe it should be why the clock operator did not start the clock on the last drive by Camden after they had used all their time outs.

The bottom line is, of course, it’s all for the kids and that’s why they play the games.

GO FALCONS!!!!! GO FALCONS!!!!! GO FALCONS!!
