Who will win Georgia?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Several tracking maps show that Georgia is leaning toward John McCain. At least one — at pollster.com — shows that the state is a tossup.
Who do you think will win the state of Georgia? McCain or Barack Obama?

Well we are screwed either way. If McCain wins, the blacks will protest, have riots, claim racism, etc. If Obama Bin Laden wins, they will riot, loot, etc. The only good news is that if that thug does win, he will only be in office for four years for sure. It’s funny how the NAACP, SCLC, and other racist leaders never had marches, rallies, and all the other crap four or eight years ago when only white people were running. And the blacks say they are NOT voting for Obama because the color of his skin? YEA RIGHT!

Who should win? McCain, Who will probably win? Obama. The media has pushed Obama from the beginning and wouldn’t tell the negative truths about him. People are voting because of his color and that is all they care about. How sad the U.S. has become!

It would be wonderful if Obama could turn our racist state. If so, it will be so close. Most Georgian Rs just follow the piper, no matter what he plays or says, and they all say, “Yes,” we agree. No thinking. We have a gal at work who told me that if Jesus ran as a Democrat, she would have to vote against him. And she’s big Baptist. Go figure. Stupid? Yes. But how many more are like that out there. Our state is just backward. I kind of think Jesus was a Democrat. Surprise to all you racists and hate-filled folks. Let Obama bring us all together as we were in the late 60s and early 70s before politicians divided us into the hate filled right and left groups we find ourselves in today, especially thanks to Dubya and K. Rove. No more.

I believe McCain will win but it will be very close. I believe Obama will win the election and I feel he could boost the morale of the country dispite the fact McCain has the most experience.
McCain and Obama are both good men and no one should be degraded for voting for either one. There is ignorance on both sides. Obama supporters have no right to call McCain supporters hicks and racist. There is racism on both sides and it it time it stops.
I am voting McCain but I will support and admire an Obama presidency if it more than likely happens.

Obama this term and Valdez in 2012. My prediction for 2010 Fidel will pass on and all the Cubans will come here. Cuba will be taken over by an elite group of golfers and will sell the right to live in the country. The price will be high and can only be bought by the millionaires that the $700 billion dollar bailout made richer.

I think McCain will carry Georgia, and I hope he wins the election. I have nothing against Obama, but I just think McCain is more qualified now.
I am more concerned with the “cult of Obama” groupies who are all gaga over him yet they don’t understand the “changes” he’ll planning are likely to damage our economy and competitveness in the global market.

Obama will win in Georgia. Hopefully one day the uneducated people that are making racist comments will understand how ignorant they sound. If not that is okay because Obama is the change that is needed to bring the majority of Americans together. Change is hard for many, but change can be great if you open your hearts and minds. The Democrats are about to pull a Soviet-style takeover of this country. They have told bold-face lies in their campaign ads about the Fair Tax, among other things, and whoever wrote those ads should be arrested and tried for perjury. We’ll have the new Gang of Four in DC, Obama, Biden, Pelosi, and Reid. Khruschev said years ago that they would bury us, and by golly, if he wasn’t right.

I am voting for Obama because we do need a big change from what Bush did to this country and McCain is too close to Bush. But I do have a problem about Obama running. All the black people are voting for him because of his color. It’s supposely a record turnout for the blacks this election and you wonder why? It’s sad they’re not voting for what they believe in but voting because he is half black. They probably have no idea what Obama believes in or what he wants to do with the country. Sad Sad Sad.

Oh good grief … I am so sick of all of the socialism talk. If all of you people who keep calling it socialism would listen to that whole conversation he had with “Joe The Plumber” (something or someone else I’m sick of hearing about) you would see that was not at all what he was talking about and the part of “spreading the wealth” was taken out of context. That whole conversation had nothing to do with socialism whatsoever … it had to do with finally giving the middle class a tax cut since for the last 8 years we have all been screwed over by the Bush administration and most of the middle class has been paying more in taxes that those in the income tax brackets above us.

What Obama is wanting to do by taking from the rich(people who have worked hard for what they have) and giving to the poor(those who have no amvitions) is socialism. Neither one of these guys are gonna do anything for us. The economy will eventually fix itslef. I am more worried about Barney Frank talking about reucing the military spending by 25% this could leave this country open for another attach.

About the African Americans turning out for Obama … you have to remember that African Americans tend to vote for Democrats anyways. Most of them would vote for him whether he was black or white. I’m sure there are some that are voting for him just because he is black, but there are probably white’s that are voting for McCain only because he is white and Obama is black. Unfortunately that is very sad, but I believe most likely true - although fortunately it isn’t true about the majority of people out there - thank god.
All that said, let me just make it clear - I am a white, middle age, moderate (who tends to vote Independent) female from North Fulton.

MLK envisioned a time when his children “will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” I have examined both of the candidates thoroughly by reading articles in the newspaper and online, and listening to the debates. I judged the candidates not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Neither candidate is without flaws. However, I cannot ignore the company that Barack Obama has kept in the past. Whether you like it or not, a person’s character is judged by the company that they keep. How could Obama sit in the congregation of Rev. Jeremiah Wright for twenty years and listen to the anti-American and the anti-Whites message that has been preached from an allegedly “Christian” church and NOT have that become a part of who he is? If that kind of hate-filled message had been preached in my church, I would have found another church a long time ago.

Glen:
McCain is not qualified to lead this country in the 21st century. Being a POW or Senator for 26 years doesn’t qualify him to be president. You have to have the intellect, judgment and temperament to be president. Like George Bush, he was a very poor student. He graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1950 with a class standing of 894 out of 899. He exhibited poor judgment by selecting a running who is ABSOLUTELY NOT QUALIFIED to be vice president. He has a bad temper and even President Bush used that against him during the 2000 Republican primaries when he sent out fliers in South Carolina saying that McCain was “mentally unstable” to be president. I wouldn’t argue with president Bush on that. I think he was trying to tell us something then.

I CAN SAY THIS!. IT’S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME NOW, BUT, WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED IN THE LAST 8 MINUTES OF READING THESE COMMENTS, LETS ME KNOW THAT THIS COUNTRY STILL POSSESS A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE NOT MATURED OUT OF THIS IGNORANCE OF THE PAST. IT DOES NOT REALLY MATTER WHO GETS ELECTED, BECAUSE THE BOTTOM LINE IS, IS THAT THIS COUNTRY AND MOST OF THE WORLD IS MESSED UP AND ITS GOING TO TAKE A LONG TIME FOR IT TO BE CORRECTED. SO THE BLACKS, AS SOME OF YOU CALL IT AND THE WHITES, WITH THE LATINOS,INDIANS KOREANS,CHINESE,JAPANESE AND EVERYBODY ELSE WHOM IS REGISTERED TO VOTE ALL SUFFER TOGETHER. I JUST CAN’T BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE ARE STUPID OF THIS FACT. I BELIEVE THAT MR. OBAMA WILL WIN THIS STATE AS WELL AS TAKE THE ELECTION. I SAY THAT BELIEVING THAT KNOWING THAT IT IS NOW TIME FOR SOMETHING NEW AND DIFFERENT AND THAT “” THE ALMIGHTY ONE”” HAS ALREADY ORDAINED THIS DAY IN HISTORY AND THAT DESPITE WHAT ANYBODY MIGHT DO OR SAY. THE ENEMY IS NOT GOING TO MANIFEST. WE ALL KNOW WHO AND WHAT THE “”REAL”” ENEMY IS. JUST DON’T CONTINUE TO FRUSTRATE YOURSELVES OVER NOTHING. “EXAMPLE” ..WHEN GOD TELLS YOU TO DIE, YOU DIE! NOBODY CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT EITHER. NOBODY REALLY CHEATS DEATH AND “”GOD”“. SO TAKE THIS WITH YOU ON YOUR MISSION…TOMORROW IS NOT PROMISED TO ANY OF US AND ONE DAY YOU’RE GOING TO “DIE” JUST LIKE ME AND NOBODY’S GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT,BECAUSE “GOD” HAS AND HAD ALREADY ORDAINED THIS EVENT IN THE UNIVERSE.SO BE NICE, YOU WOULDN’T WANT GOD TO KNOW REALLY WHO AND WHAT YOU REALLY ARE.

At long last our 8 year long nightmare is coming to an end. And Georgia will be the early surprise of the evening. This state will turn blue. After suffering through the lies, the corruption, malfeasance, bloated government, assault on privacy, liberty and individual rights and the ongoing war on intellectualism and the manipulative culture war waged upon us, this country has had absolutely enough! The Ronald Reagan of the left is Barack Obama and today we will elect him the 44th President of the United States.

blacks will riot? how stupid does that sound.. blacks in america have dealt with far worse things than losing the presidency so trust me we know how to cope with disappoint well in this country. There are blacks who are voting for him because he is black and even though i wouldnt do that i cant blame them. My grandparents and parents had to go through true racism in there lives. so for them to see the day were a black man can be president is special. To ignore the history that blacks have to had to endure is sad. We just dealt with 8 years of a unquailified president who happened to be white but he gets the benefit of the doubt because of his skin color and you know its true. The world is watching america, its time for us to show them how great this country truly is by turning a page on one of the biggest things that has held this Country back far too long.

After reading most of this nonsense, it’s clear that America still has a lot of growing to do. It’s not a black thing that makes us African americans vote for Obama, it’s the clear fact that we have given you all the opportunity to run this country over and over again, and you always seem to find way to screw your opportunity up. Being that I’m from Texas, I saw George Bush doin s** the wrong way then. When he was elected president, I knew it was over for all of us! But now, I personally want change. I am a “Joe the Plumber” & I have paid very close attention to what has been said by both candidates, & OBama seems to have my best interest at heart. I look forward to change & you all should do the same. The only people that I find to be afraid of change are the ones that have done some wrong somewhere in their past, and are hoping that they won’t have to reap what they hAve sewn. Just remember, payback is a mutha! And last but not least, ask yourself this question…if change does come, will I be able to accept it??? What happened in the 60s will NEVER happen again….

I hope Obama takes Georgia and the White House. Ever notice how intelligent the responses are from those voting Obama and how ignorant and mean most of the responses are from the pro-McCain people? Who wants an irrational, immature leader who thinks singing “Bomb-bomb-bomb Iran” is funny and would pick someone as woefully incompetent as Palin as his running mate? I can live with that too…he’s got some good policies, I just agree with McCain’s direction more and I DON’T think McCain is 4 more years of Bush.

I’m voting for McCain because I don’t want to see every dollar I make being taxed to death to give to someone that is too lazy to work. His or her abilities are just as good as mine to get out and work. I started digging ditches and doing many labor task and no one gave me anything nor would my pride allow me to ask. This country will only go downhill by Obama winning the presidency and taxing the hard working people to give to ones that will not work now and definatly will not work with Obama giving them a check. The idea is to create jobs not to destroy the small companies that provide the jobs and by taxing us and our homes and all other that goes with it we the small companies will not make it. You call it spread the wealth I call it supporting laziness.

For all you Obama supporters here in Georgia you need to be honest with yourselves and acknowledge that your vote really doesn’t count because despite your massive turnout in Dekalb, Fulton and (gasp) Clayton counties, they are only 3 counties out of 159 that will decide who will win and winner takes all.

Reading these comments is absolutely ridiculous!! What the heck is wrong with you people. The more you use the word racists you diminish it’s meaning. In order to insult people who don’t think the way you do,, you have desensitized people to the word and what it means. According to the comments on this board, racists has nothing to do with the color of ones skin but everything to do with someone who disagrees with you. If your intent is to shame people into feeling guilty by being called a racist for not liking Obama’s policies, you have instead p** them off. I for one, value my independence, feedom to make my own choices and believe that I can take care of myself and my family better than the government. I want less government. I am probably more a constitutionalist than I am a Republican. You see I don’t want any of the handouts that Obama is promising me. I do make less than $250,000 a year yet I don’t want anybody elses money. I don’t want the government to pay for my healthcare, that is my responsibility. And as for the 1,000 dollar tax cut, I won’t even notice it, it equates to an extra .24 cents an hour for the time my husband and I work. You can keep the change.

To all of you people who are so fired up about Obama, I say more power to you but despite your enthusiasm the end numbers just don’t work out in your favor if you look at any electoral map of the state of Georgia.
In fact to be realistic about what’s going on in GA look at Saxby Chambliss; it’s projected that he’s going to get about 48% of the vote, he needs 50%+1 to win but if he’s headed into a runoff with Jim Martin it’s not going to bode well for him.

I am hoping for a McCain win. To many things in Obamas past makes me sick. In California he talks about small towns like their pieces of dirt. Hey we are all Americans. In PA he claims he will bankrupt the coal factories. Hey these are peoples lives. PA, VA, OH, they will all take note on what he said about coal. How can anyone who works hard in those states vote for a man who will close them down. In Obamas own words Bankrupt the companies. Obama has only one adjenda and thats to win the election and send our money to third world countries so they can live better. For those of you voting for Obama, get real. He will not make your life better in any way shape or form. Remember the words of Obama, and I quote.
“JUST WORDS, JUST SPEACHES” He gets a A++ for acting. He will tear our country apart. All of you remember 9-11 before going to the polls. The next one might be in your city and your friends and family could be involved.
GOD SPEED to one and all.

It is so funny, how most McCain/Palin supporters are so ignorant and really know they have no true reason to vote for McCain other than he is a WHITE man. If you had any intelligence whatsoever, then you would know that there are a LOT of whites, Asians, and Hispanics voting for Obama. I think it really p** you all off because there are more of a cultural mix votign for Obama INCLUDING people of your own race. Now, you want to say we are only voting for Obama because of his skin color. I guess the other races that are voting for him are Pro-Black as well.
I would rather vote for an intelligent man with substance any day over a washed up “hero” who is as dumb as his pick for VP. IF McCain wins, then whatever we get when this man put out there is what we deserve because of so many people not wanting to do the right thing.

Hey Katrina, yea there is rasism all over the country but its the blacks who keep it going. I am very sick of it too. Look at the welfare, look at the government assistance. It all goes to blacks. Dont tell me that you dont live by the give me rules that blacks deserve to be taken care of because thats all I hear from you. Its up to the government to take care of me.
I am a black women and the worlds not white anymore its black and you yourself are keeping yourself down. Let it go and educate yourself. Stop living in the past, that was a long long time ago. Get off your rear end and make something of yourself. I for one am tired of hearing about slavery and what the government owes you. We and our family were not slaves so get over it. This is America, you want something then EARN it. Stop asking the government to support you and your families.

Well from what I have read and understand McCain wil win GA. However, the name calling and ignorance from both whites and blacks needs to stop. This election is not about the color of a mans skin but who can take this country in a new direction. I have seen the underlying ideas and thoughts of both men NEITHER is a SAINT or a GOD. This country is suffering and whoever the next president is will not change much in the next 4yrs. So just face it until we all blacks and whites put our differences aside(which are stupid)and work together as one this country will continue to sink into the pits and become a third world country. I am a black man and that is something I do not wish to see in my lifetime. God Bless the next President of the United States weather it be Barak Obama or John McCain.

Anyone who votes for a candidate based on skin color is just plain ignorant. This election will show just how shallow this country has become. The uninformed will drink the Kool-Aid that the news media has served them and vote for whom they are told. They for the most part do not want to do any research for themselves, they are looking for someone to take care of them. Most of them can tell you who all of the past American Idols were but not the same number of past Presidents. My vote will be for McCain/Palin.

Nameless, is that surprising given that that group of Americans have not been afforded full constitutional gurantees until the last forty years or so especially in the south? You do know history, don’t you? Stupid is as stupid sounds. Furthermore, blacks have always voted overwhelmingly for democrats since since the Votings Rights Act and Civil Rights Act under a democrat, LBJ. I dont think either one can fix the mess we are in. So I am looking at other areas of the world. Hillary is right, we need a president who can step in and take over. Now one that has to hunt down all his advisors and find out what he has to do or what he should do or who he should call when our country is being attacked. We need someone with experience who can defend the constitution of america. That is not a president in training. That man is John McCain.

I’m hoping and praying Obama wins period!! Not just Ga but the whole Usa. I grew up in Ga and just recently moved 2 northern va/DC metro. It’s a real big change and for the better. I never knew blacks, whites, latinos, africans, asians, etc… could interact so well with each other. I also notice alot of different races supporting Obama as well as ALOT of whites. I’m hoping he can unite atleast half of the racists folks down there in the south. Life is much better and I’m experiencing alot of different cultures here. U racist folks have no idea what your missing out on if u don’t experience different cultures. I’m amazed at how divided the south still is and bcuz I lived there most of my life, I thought that was the normal. I’m mixed filipino/blk/white and I love ALL people. It is so sad that our country USA is divided with so much racism. When 911 hit, we all came together hugging and kissing each other because it wasn,t just white nor black in this. It involved all nationality of people. So, why can’t this be an election for the better of our country and not for racism because of a black or a white president. Obama wants to supress people. Thats what happens when you start giving things away. One its handed out, hard work does not seem to follow. All one has to do is look at teens for a reasonable explaination of this statement. Give teens what they want anytime they want it and they come to expect it. Then ask them to do something to earn and they look at you like your nuts or something.
Listen it human nature to try to get something for nothing. Only problem is in America, people have the resourses now to thrive in this nation. There are government grants for college, there are scholarships for kids that excel, there are public assistance when your having a hard time, and yes there is medicaid for low income insurance for kids. Why is it that the more you create the more people want.
What is wrong with educating yourself, getting a good paying job and supporting yourself. With most jobs comes insurance. I simply do not think the government should be there to care for your each and every want. I think you should get out of bed everyday and make your own life. If you choose not to do that then why is that my problem. Ever heard of “your made your bed, now lie in it?”
The idea that every american citizen has the right to healthcare, money, a home, a car, well yes you do have the right to those things, if you choose to work hard for them. The idea that you have the right to them by me working hard is obsurd and thats where I draw the line. You want things then get out and work for them just like I do. I pay my fair share of taxes now and I dont feel like I should pay more because some people dont want to. Voting McCain

I just returned home from voting and I cast my vote for John McCain.
I’m a black conservative who has voted for the Republican candidate for president the last four elections. The reason hasn’t been so much that I’m a “Republican”, it’s that the platform of candidates, like McCain, tend to align more closely with my own personal beliefs and values, which happen to be the same as what most blacks, especially in the South, grew up with. Values such work ethic, individual responsibility and accountability for one’s actions.
The question I have during major election cycles like this is why do so many (not all) blacks set aside those values - which have more to do with the individual being responsible for their own success - to a “handout” mindset to where we look to an individual to create that success for us? Forerunners like Frederick Douglass and Harriett Tubman, didn’t make the sacrifices they made so those of us who came after them would line up behind ANY politician with our hands out like beggars. It’s like and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: “A man can’t ride your back unless it’s bent.”
Here’s a prime example of what I’m talking about - a woman who believes that with Obama as president, she’ll no longer have to worry about paying her mortgage or for gas for her car. Listen closely to what this woman is saying: YouTube of Obama supporter
Amazing. ;-/ It’s not good that one political party commands 95+ percent support from black voters. No single party should have that much influence.

You ALL sound RACIST to me!!! This is not a black/white issue — this is an issue of what is right for America.
Bush-lied, cheated, stole, and played your tails for 8 years, so did his daddy!!!
Think about this most if not all of the financial bail-outs have occurred during the Bush Sr. or Bush Jr. administration; so have all of the most recent wars.
Middle class americans have suffered greatly and me as a middle class american am tired of suffering.
I have a college degree, laid off from a huge telecom corporation. I am in my early 40’s, I will never see a job I will be able to retire from. I also probably won’t ever see my retirement funds. I will never see a job I will be employed at for longer than 4-6 years before that employer makes the decision to lay me off and employ overseas in India or Asia.
I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired of seeing those persons of the upper class and high upper class reap the benefits of what I deserve a chance at reaping.
I’ve paid the price just as much and I’ve given just as much and I want to live wealthy and in peace too!!!

Senator Obama will win because he’s the better candidate and despite the ignorant racist, the number of intelligent people in Georgia outweigh them. The thing that I find most amusing about all of this is how these same racist people who deep down inside despise black people (why though? most can’t even articulate why their hatred run so deep), there the same ones cheering on and praising black athletes when they score a touchdown or hit a game winning homerun for their favorite team…people get over it and move on…The face of America (and Georgia) is changing for the better…embrace it and open your mind, you’ll be amazed at how enhances your life.

To Darrell of (www.blackthen.com);
I say to you that it is persons or men of color like yourself who give us all a bad name!!!
You say we are looking for hand outs and that we are lacking values such as work ethic, individual responsibility and accountability for our actions.
I would really like to know why you feel that way, because if your African American family and roots were anything like my partially African American roots and those of our African American fore fathers you were taught to be responsible for yourself and for others you were with and even in times when you knew you should not be, to be proud and stand proud always at your job even at the jobs we disliked(washing laundry for white people; cleaning white folks homes, you know whats up).
I don’t believe those can be considered hand-outs if you consider them hand-outs they are the same hand-outs that enabled your tail to go to college or university, sit anywhere you want to on the bus, ride an airplane, sit in that cubicle or have an office next to that white man/woman at work, voice your opinion and most importantly vote!!!

Theres not enough working americans to supply the budget proprosal that Obama is planning. Get ready for higher and I do mean higher taxes for all these programs to support the people in their desire to have what you have without the dedication and hard work backing it. You americans will work for a reason now and that reason will be to support those who dont want to work. A trillian in new spending is a lot of money people. Hes not cutting anything. Tweety “…and I want to live wealthy and in peace too!!!”
The irony of your wanting to “live wealthy” is that as you acquire that wealth, the man you support for president (Obama) will be the very same person who will want to redistribute to someone else the wealth you will have worked so hard to obtain. (He has said that in his own words.)
As for your wanting to live in peace, we all want that. Who doesn’t? But for you to think that by electing a certain candidate - any candidate - as president will affect the hearts of individuals around the world who want to do harm to this nation, then you’re being naive.
You say we “don’t pay attention” to history. Well, history is replete with instances of nations sitting down across from each other and signing a piece of paper “promising” not to invade or go to war with the other. But a signature on a document is not a mirror into a person’s heart, and the only real way to avoid or avert war is to show the other guy that you’ll willing to fight if they come at you the wrong way.
Handshakes and empty promises don’t work. Never have.

McCain will win Georgia but by the narrowest of margins; say, by 1 or 2% of the population. Why? Because of Obama’s name, skin color, and party; after all, this is the South, and the whites ( especially among the poorer sections of the state )are very conservative. Me? I’m white, female, educated ( but not enough ), and underemployed; for me, it’s not about change, it’s about Iraq, jobs, and the economy. We don’t need another Republican administration to further ruin our country’s reputation by running up the debt. I voted for Obama.

“A democracy is always temporary in nature,” wrote Alexander Tyler; “It simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.”
Why did he come to this conclusion? The Scottish professor explained, “A democracy will continue to exist until the time that the voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.
“From that moment on, the majority will always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

The man that wins this election God put him there for a reason. The color doesnt matter, I am sorry. The only thing that should matter is that this man wants what is best for this country and that he prays for Gods DIVINE will to be done. God made us all equal in HIS eyes, we are all beautiful. We are saved if we accept by HIS grace. People please pray for whomever is in this office. The time is at hand. I know that this one posting wont make much of a difference but maybe someone will read it and just pray. We are living in scary times…let us pray and seek HIS face n all we do!! hey guess what people. The presidents job is to defend this country and keep us safe. He has done that.
The congress job is to handle the money and taxes and create laws to government the country. After two years of a democratic congress and the financial downfall under this congress, I agree, we need a change.
I urge everyone to knock out the crooks in the house and senate up for re-election. They have done nothing to help this country. However Bush has keep us safe from further attack. That means Bush has done the job and the rest of the government has not. Replace them.
Then realize that McCain is not Bush, rushed back at the risk of his campain to make sure that the 700 billion bailout (house and congress doing) was not full of earmark money and once again went against his party the first go around to protect the people of this country from corruption while Obama yelled “call me if you need me” hummmmmmmmmm.
If the house and senate once more blame Bush for them not doing their job I think I will puke. Bush did his job, its the rest of them that did not. They caused this financial mess and they know it. Each and every one of them. So vote wisely and vote.

You still feel white males got to be the Pres, coaches, principles, managers, chiefs. They cannot be just simple team member. OMG…it saddens me to read the ignorant, racist comments that have been made by supporterss of McCain and Obama. The truth is yes, some African Americans are voting for Obama because he is a black man, but some Caucasians are not voting for him because he is. So, what is the difference? The bottom line is as a country we must vote for the candidate that we feel will lead our country out of the crisis that we are in. If change is what we need then change is what we get. Please do not fault Obama for saying we need change, because the Bible said it first. “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the strength and wisdon to know the difference.” I understand that a blog is a blog, but when you attack someones integrity just to blog that is ridiculous. I am a supporter of Obama, not because he is a black man, but because I believe in his sincerity to lead this country, I believe in his family values, but most importantly I believe he will lead this country out of turmoil.

I’m a liberal Democrat. I was born and raised in Georgia. Will John McCain get votes simply because Obama is black? The answer is yes for some people. However, it is simplistic and insulting to assert that all persons in this state who vote for McCain are racists. We have differing ideas about the way the country should be run. Most people I know who support McCain simply do not support Obama’s domestic policies, end of story. That is not racism.

It concerns me to read all of the responses for Mccain. Have you all noticed that everyone who is for Mccain has nothing but derrogatory comments about Obama? you all really need to grow up and understand that your president is the reason we are in this situation and people are being laid off by the hundreds every week. Do you not like Obama because he does have a black father or is it because you honestly in your heart and soul believe he is not the better candidate for this country?! With Mccain being so old, if something happens to him, Palin will be in charge. Dont get me wrong, i think she is a very charismatic and beautiful woman, however she doesnt know anything about governmental policies!! She is not a good candidate and would not do well with this country and the responsibilities at hand. EVERYONE NEEDS TO GROW UP AND VOTE OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Georgia will go for McCain, but I think it will be much closer than a lot of “experts” are saying. Perhaps less than 1% difference.
I’ve been following this election since the primary season, and I truly believe Obama is more qualified for the job of President than McCain. He is more in touch with the younger generation. True he attended church where Jeremiah Wright was the pastor, but that has not influenced him in this campaign. His VP pick was sound, unlike McCain’s knee-jerk pick.
And as for possible riots, I have multiple friends, all white, that have said they will riot if Obama loses. Their reasoning was simple, this is the first election that both African Americans and the 18-25 crowd are showing up in droves, and if Obama does not win, they will feel that the election was stolen from them.
I looked at the issues that matter to me, and I’m voting for the ticket that I feel is best in line with those issues.

I have been a democrat/liberal since I can remember but have always said I would vote for McCain if he ever ran. He is what I consider to be the most qualified of the 2 canidates. I have read all the comments about racism and voting for one cause he is one color( and yes even I have said that the majority of blacks will only vote for Obama because of his skin color). I believe that Obama can not run this country properly because he is not a proud American. It is that simple. I dont care what color he is or what his personal history is but I do care that the leader of this country have pride in what he does! And so should you! In having pride for the USA you should hope that the voters know WHY they are voting for a person and not because it is the first time a person of color has run. I hope all make wise decisions based on wise choices and not to prove that a black man can win the white house. I want a leader for all not for some and so should you! Go John I will be voting for you soon!

Get ready to get a trash can then Shannon. By the way, Republicans recently seem to forget the 6 years prior to the 2 years the Democrats were in control. I don’t have my degree in business, but it sure seems like it would take more than 2 years to get this country into $10 trillion worth of debt. When Bush got into office, we had a surplus, so how do you explain that? Yeah, there hasn’t been another terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11, but 9/11 was the worst terrorist attack on American soil in history.

I have question? Why do people think that Obama’s economic plan is going to put more people on welfare? Do you think that anyone making under $200,000 per year is going to get food stamps and a welfare check? Obama’s plan is not to be handing out checks, but to give tax breaks for most people. I am pretty sure most of the people on this blog will be getting tax breaks. So if tax breaks are welfare, then most big businesses in America right now are on welfare. Please people, do me a favor, do your research before you get on here with your ignorance.

Bush and his henchmen (Cheney, Gonzalez, Rumsfeld, Rice, etc.) have done such terrible damage to this country - within and without. This country used to set the example for peace and human rights for the rest of the world to follow. But that is all gone now. Can it be shocking that 80% of Europeans are hoping Obama wins?
At the point we are now, policies are almost secondary to a person’s ability to heal the rifts in this country and bring us together.
Reading the many hateful passages here shows how the politics of race and fear have divided us, particularly over the last 8 years.
McCain and particularly his sidekick Palin have shown they are ready to build on that hate and fear that their predecessor has wrought upon us.
Obama - in Colin Powell’s words - is a transformational figure, the kind of gifted person we need who might bring us back together and replace that fear with hope. He’s done it before and I hope he will do it for all of us now.
Be honest people, we all need it!

Steve@11/3, 9:54 PM posted: Well we are screwed either way. YEA RIGHT!
Steve is the reason McCain will carry GA. He is a racist, but justifies his racism by blaming others. I’m sure there are many other “Steves” in GA that will justify their vote for McCain in a similar convoluted way. They will vote against Obama because of the color of his skin and not his abilities. If that was the deciding factor, McCain would not have a chance in hell of winning.
When you vote for Rethuglicon, you vote against your own best interests. And Steve is living proof.

I have spent I do not know how long now reading all the post on here and it amazes me to see how we still seem to have such a split because of what color you are. I have listened to everything that has come down since we knew the two candidates and to be honest neither one is a great choice but at the same time we have to have one and I as an American will respect the President no matter whom it may be.
To just go straight on with this Obama is a clown and bold face liar period with everything he has been involved and associated with get a grip people ( do you really want this man leading the country). As an american I want a man that has been through something and not handed anything as well one of the candidates have had. People need to know the history and whom Obama went to school with and how he got the money to attend the colleges he attended.
If he get’s into the office this country is in some serious trouble and well we will be through. Say so long to your freedom.

Look at all the racist remarks here on this blog. What’s really funny is the fact that you white people claim black people are voting for Obama because of his race. Well look at the pot calling the kettle black! You all are voting against Obama simply because he is black. What makes you right and others wrong? Use your brain and understand Obama is an awesome candidate and will be an effective leader for our country.
Can you not face the fact that the McCain/Plain team is really the same as the Bush Administration? Bush deployed our troops in search of so-called weapons of mass destruction only to come back and say “my bad.” What will Palin/McCain have us looking for during their administration? I don’t know and don’t care to find out. I voted Obama and I am ready to see him come through for our country!

Obama will not win GA but he will win the election. Probably in a landslide but all you people out there calling him a socialist need to check yourselves because I don’t know or remember anyone who said they were going to be returning their stimulus checks when they came in the mail. I pose a very basic question to Republicans who are accusing Barack Obama of adopting “socialist principals.” How are stimulus checks not a form of socialism?
Let’s back up for a second. The concept of stimulus checks is nothing new. The idea is that the government gives its citizens a check for a few hundred dollars with the idea that they are going to p** it away on DVD’s, clothing or other retail items to improve the GDP. The problem is that most people use those checks to pay their rent or pay down existing debt or other things they need which are likely not made in the United States anyways. The research is in and stimulus checks don’t work as intended especially when the economy is doing badly. This comes down to targeting. Stimulus checks are issued to those who have relatively low incomes and don’t have as much money for discretionary spending. Instead of buying stuff as they are intended, they would rather use the money to simply not be as poor.
So what does this have to do with socialism and Republicans and the election? I am glad you asked. About a week ago when Obama was talking to our favorite person ever, Joe the Plumber, (if you don’t know who he is, please invite me to the rock you have been living under or use your stimulus check to purchase a television). Obama mentioned that he was interested in trying to reduce the class warfare our country faces by changing our tax structure to favor those making less then $250,000 a year (I.E. Those who are not pretty damn wealthy). John McCain took one line he used to describe this, “spreading the wealth around”, to be the battle cry to call Obama a socialist. Now here is where I get a little confused. How are reducing taxes for poor American’s more socialist then issuing them stimulus checks, which is quite literally spreading the wealth around which John McCain supports? If you can answer that then you are smarter then I am.
The great irony is that this country has always been interested in spreading the wealth around. Have you ever wondered why social security didn’t simply pay out benefits that directly correlate to the amount of money you have contributed to it in your lifetime and no more? That would be in alignment with John McCain’s Darwinist principals as well as that of the free market but he would never get elected if he said that directly (In fairness, he remembers when there was no Social Security! -ed). So basically John McCain and George Bush support socialism but as the old saying goes, it is not that they don’t get it, it is just that they can’t sell it. Well maybe not Bush but that is a different story…Have a great day.Remember, knowledge is power not ignorance. Before you start bumping your gums no WTF you are talking about.
That is all

It scares me to think that some of the people who have commented are the ones out there voting. I wish they had a basic test that you had to take before you could vote to prove that you at least had a general idea of what policies each candidate supported. I voted for McCain this morning, but I completely respect anyone who votes for Obama, as long as you researched him and truly agree with his policies. I agree with his education policies, but that is where it ends. I believe that his healthcare policy will fail. He has never explained how he will fund it and therefore I can only assume it will be with taxes. No matter what form of healthcare we have there will always be some people left out. Its the sad, viscious truth. However, the US funds the majority of the drug companies. Whether I agree with that or not, what happens when they don’t have the money pouring in for R&D? How will we find new medicines to combat AIDS, cancer, etc? How will we maintain the greatest physicians/surgeons/etc. when we don’t pay the salaries they are used to receiving for all of their schooling? As far as taxes go, there is an old saying dating back a LONG time ago that a country will never advance by knocking down the strong. There is no perfect world, but I feel more confident in McCain.

Georgia will go for Sen. McCain. I have been a McCain champion prior to his 2000 campaign and I wished that he would have beat out G.W. Bush. (I am a native Texan). However, McCain has changed his middle-right leaning philosophies to appease the far right of the Republican party. As many moderates/independents, I think this is why McCain may end up losing the election. I happily voted for Sen. Obama almost 3 weeks ago.
I wish I could say that race does not play a factor in the GA results, but it does. I agree that there are some black Georgians that will vote for Sen. Obama simply because he is African-American, however those votes will likely be offset by voters who will not vote for him for the same reason. The rest of us will decide who gets GA’s electoral votes. African-Americans have been voting for white candidates since given the right to vote (15th Amendment - 1870) and the lifting of obstacles to vote (Voting Rights Act 1965), so I think it is unfair to paint them with a single stroke.
Regardless of who wins I wish both men all the best. They have a huge mountain of mess to deal with once they are sworn into office. I also pray that no harm comes to either of these candidates. I believe that most Americans live there life in the middle of the political landscape and all have common goals for themselves and their families. Georgians are a lot better than some of the posts on this blog suggest.

All you people that truely believe that George Bush had any power past this democratic crap of a congress are full of it. If you were as open minded as you say you would then admit that there is no way Bush could look good because they made him look terrible. Took the country down economically while they were at it. Maybe just maybe had they worked together to back the president we would not be in this mess.
So was it Bush as much as the Congress fighting against him. I dont think so. They are all in need of a good replacement. Think the Americans can stand together to do this.
People dont you get it. Whats best for this nation is not the President. McCain, Obama, does not matter. Neither have business experience and the united states is just that. Its a business and needs to run as such. Whats wrong with this country are the lawmakers sitting in the house and senate. They are the reason for this mess, every single one of them. Go ahead and vote for your president, im sure either will be fine. You want change though, then vote your sitting reps out of office. They are the real reason we are here in this economic mess. Not the President but your tax and spend representatives. Move them out, and put new in. If the new dont work for us then move them out next time.
Open your eyes america, black, white, asian, mexican, it does not matter. We all bleed the same, so smile, hold hands and lets fix this country on our own. Vote out your holdovers in government. Thats the only way to remove the corruption.

I read these posts and it’s hard to decide if people are just typing nonsense to get a fight started or if some of the people on here actual believe the things they are typing. I’m a 35 year old white male from a rural area in Georgia. For my whole life I’ve lived to believe that the only right vote was to vote on who you think was a better candidate. To see how many people on here still hold racial grudges against another human being is truly sad. It’s a sad day in America when a man is judged solely by his skin.It is 2008 right? I think many of you think it’s 1958 still.Everyone is equal.

How about Black people are voting for Sen. Obama becuase they can vote for a Black Man for President of the United States.
History aside, this may be for some, a once in a lifetime chance to vote for an Black man for office. And people are doing it.
That said, the neoconservative, budget-busting, deficit spending, borrowing-from-China- constitution wrecking Bush administration has sufficiently fractured a coalition that has been around for 20 years.
It’s over now. Being a Republican mean being dumb (or acting like it), abdicating responsibility, debt, and a violation of fundamental right inherent in the United States Consitution since the inception of this Nation.
That is no longer acceptable to a large part of the electorate.
White people, you may choose to vote for who you wish, regardless of the reason. Black people, the same holds true for you.
And in the end isn’t that what the Country is about?

Problem with Obama is that he’s buddy with terroist and anti-America idiots. So when an oil rich country is being attack by terrorist, he’ll just stand there and watch on TV and won’t protect the country being invaded. Then our gas will be $10 - $20 a gallon.

@By atlgal WHAT EVER FOOL ITS TIME FOR ME TO NOT EVEN GIVE YOU ANYMORE OF MY TIME BECAUSE WHITE PEOPLE ARE NOT EVEN WORTH IT JUST WATCH THE ELECTION AND SEE WHO WINS HA HA HA HERE SOMETHING YOU WHITE PEOPLE CAN THINK ABOUT A white man asked his black friend, ‘Are you voting for Barack Obama just because he’s black?’
The black man responded by saying, ‘Why not? In this country men are pulled over everyday just ‘cause they’re black; passed over for promotions just cause they’re black; considered to be criminals just cause they’re black; and there are going to be thousands of YOU who won’t be voting for him just because he’s black!
However, you do not seem to have a problem with that!
This country was built with the sweat and whip off the black slaves’ back, and now a descendent of those same slaves has a chance to lead the same country, where we weren’t even considered to be people, where we weren’t allowed to be educated, drink from the same water fountains, eat in the same restaurants, or even vote.
So yes! I’m going to vote for him! But it’s not just because he’s black, but because he is hope, he is change, and he now allows me to understand when my grandson says that he wants to be president when he grows up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal. He now sees, understands and knows that he can achieve, withstand and do …
ANYTHING
JUST BECAUSE HE’S BLACK!

WOW, it’s funny. I didn’t know there were so many mind readers out there, who really believe that all black people are voting for Obama simply because he’s black. I found it amazing that so many people have that ability. I’m voting for Obama because he will make a great president. I can’t believe people would actually vote for McCain and Palin. McCain is so out of touch and Palin is a totally idiot. I along with other hard working middle class people have been taxed to death. It would be nice for the shoe to be on the other foot. Give people like me a break, we need it. We also need a president who cares about regular people not the super rich. Like it’s been for years with Bush and McCain.

The people in the State of Georgia is still living in the pass. They appear to be so Biblically correct, yet it does not take anything for them to display hate to the Black race. Obama would be the perfect one to win Georgia and the White House. He breaks the color barrier, remember he is Black & White by birth. He is fully equipped to bring the changes needed in this county. Get over the past ill wills of hate and corruption and vote for Obama, he will bridge the gap and make a difference in everone’s life.

IDIOTS - All these people blaming Bush for the countries problems. These are the same people that do not understand American government.
Here is a little lesson for you folks. It is called trickle down economics. All that is wrong with the economy started with Clinton. Clinton’s glory days were a result of Reagen and the first George Bush. I am not saying that W did not make stupid choices but it is not all his fault.
I am white and voting for McCain not because Obama is black but because he is the better choice.

I grew up in a Democratic household and I agree more with his views than McCain. I think that they are both well to do men and as a Christian I refuse to join in badgering either. Its funny how Obama gets labeled :“socialist”. After GOP sponsored Bush and Co. has taken taxpayer money to bail out corrupt corporations (over 1 trillion dollars in Corporate welfare) NOW THAT’S SOCIALISM AT ITS FINEST. TAKE FROM THE MIDDLE CLASS AND GIVE TO THE RICH. The repubs have run our country into the ground for the last 8 years, robbing the taxpayer (borrow and spend). I believe some of you dumb toothless rednecks and bible thumpers would vote for Satan if he was running as s Republican. If you make less than 250K and you have enjoyed the last 8 years of corruption - McSame is your man.

I can’t believe what I’m reading here. There seems to be the idea or suggestion here that black people are voting for Obama because of his race. It seems that more people are voting against him because of his race. If that is the case then those black people must be Republications because I’m pretty sure that most of the Black Democrats (and most blacks are democrats ) voted for democratic candidates in the past regardless of color. So the question to you is why are you not voting for him? Race seems to be a major factor for most of the McCain voters in this blog. Who by the way I believe would have voted for William Ayers if he was up against Obama. I have 2 neighbors who would normally vote democratic but for some strange reason this year they switched. Who knows the reason. I am willing to bet however that race has something to do with it.

cornhole,
Yet, you would follow the republican party after the last 8 years. What Bush/Cheney has done to this country in the last 8 years is much worse than Clayton County could be at any given point.
The CEO’s of the Big Banks, Wall Street, Enron, Countrywide, etc…. are all being run by people you would follow to the end, but you only look at Clayton County.
The big automakers are looking for a handout and they are in financial RUINS. Sonny has been running GA for a while and we are not exactly having the best of times. Florida is struggling and so is California, one is Red and the other is Blue.
You really need to diversify your views.

Are you really saying that the results of the “trickle down” economic theory were responsible for Clinton’s glory years….
STOP!
Here’s your history lesson.
Reagan increased the national deficit 2x more than any other prior President. Why? becuase 1) he increased spending and the size of government, and 2) without taxes, there was no revenue to offset the spending. And he had the record til…..drumroll… George W. Bush!
George H.W. Bush increased taxes becuase the budget would not balance without his doing so. Clinton increased them as well and his economic record was the best in history.
So tell me this, if taxes pay for funding, how does reducing the income to the government (taxes) pay for War and other government services?

I sincerely hope McCain takes Georgia but this will be tight. Heard an interview on the radio this morning where an Obama supporter had the following to say: 1. McCain was a POW from World War 3. 2. He had to be told that Obama’s running mate was Sarah Palin (they were joking but he was clueless) and when asked what STATE she was from he answered Detroit. 3. Stated he had no job but that Obama was going to be finding jobs, and that he didn’t care how long it took as long as Obama was trying (and we keep paying for him or course). 4. Stated that he will party tonight when Obama wins. When asked how he would afford it with no job he said food stamps.
I’m afraid we need to start setting an IQ pre-requisite for voting. Especially if it is for Obama.

So much ignorance, not enough love. Come on people, it’s 2008 and we can’t get past race? Unfortunately, here in GA, race will be an issue for a very long time.
But the truth about this election is that there are good white folks and good black folks and all those in between voting for Obama, and McCain. I for one, voted for Bush in 2004, but voted Obama on Thursday.
Obama inspires me to want to be a better citizen and I don’t feel that with McCain. I agree, tax the wealthier. Where else is our government going to get it’s revenue? Taxing those who make less than $250K and we would be in this same situation in 4 years. This is economy 101 people. Our nation has a record deficit because these past 8 years, the wealthier and corporations have been given “tax breaks”. This is change I believe in. And you should too. George H Bush once said to his followers, “Read my lips…No New Taxes!” He found out that he had to raise taxes and the wealthier felt lied to and betrayed. McCain is not standing on that same soapbox. He is just letting Obama talk about his plan to “raise” taxes on the wealthy. McCain thinks this will help his campaign. I’m pleased to know that Obama is taking the honest route here and has already laid out the forecast for what your increased taxes will be.
Another econ 101 lessen: Wealthy people save money, poor and middle class families spend it. More spending = GDP goes up. GDP goes up, companies are making money because they are selling things. In turn, the market returns to normal. Redistribution of wealth, yes. But look at the distribution of wealth to the financial institutions. They got their bailout money and decided to keep it on their books. Again, wealthier folks save money. This will not help our economy. We need to get this “bailout” money to the people who spend the money.
And in 4-8 years, we may be in a different situation as a country, and my views and actions may change. But today, Obama has the better plan. Thanks for reading and pass on this message to all to understand.

Duke -
Maybe that 100 year old person never had any hope that there might a chance that their vote would count and they have been convinced now that someone who is of color might actually be in a position to lead our country.
You argument that Blacks are only voting for Obama because he is black is sort of silly - they have had no other choice for the history of our country. Do you really believe that if the situation were reversed the majority of whites would not be doing the same thing.
Add to the fact that we are seeing an African-American for President the fact that the MAJORITY of the country views Obama as the better choice.
You really can’t fathom why a majority of blacks don’t see a better choice in Obama? If it was a white candidate with as much organizational energy, we would probably be electing a white candidate. Why look for the negative reason?

Couldn’t have expected anything else to come out of the mouth of warmongering, oil guzzling, materialistic ReTHUGlican. You people seem to only care about three main things: Terrorists, taxes, and OIL. You and your ‘Pub brethren seem to think that America must jump to the defense of every oil-rich nation every time there is a problem. If war will save us a nickel on a gallon of gas, you people are for it. That’s one reason why we are seen in a negative light in other countries. America is not a security guard. Other countries are more than capable of handling their own problems, and I say let ‘em. And you people should really shut up with the “palling around with terrorists” garbage. It is not “palling around with terrorists” to speak with other world leaders IN PERSON about important issues rather than trying to get your point across with belligerence and threats of military force. If you act belligerent, you can expect belligerence in return. As for the Ayers issue, he was doing all that crap when Obama was EIGHT YEARS OLD! It’s hard for me to imagine someone “palling around with terrorists” before they hit puberty. And for God’s sake will you people PLEASE shut up about gas. Republicans LOVE gas. Gas gas gas gas gas. Here’s one reason I voted for Obama: so we eventually will have fuel-efficient vehicles AND alternate fuels. Neither will happen under a Republican president, especially those who are friendly with the oil companies (see George W. Bush). If we develop alternate fuels, we won’t have to worry about gas prices! :-0 Imagine that! I say get it done! Obama ‘08!

Let me clarify my stance on the economic crisis. I know it is not solely on the president, I was responding to the people that say it is all the democratic run congress fault of the last 2 years. What they seem it forget is that the previous 6 years was a Republican run congress, and I am pretty sure that it takes more than 2 years to build a $10 trillion deficit when we had a surplus at the beginiing of the Bush administration. I know all of America’s problems are not Bush’s fault and I actually feel he did some good things while in office. You guys are right, the president doesn’t have as much power in certain aspects of the government as many people think. Especially not in your local municipalites.

I may disagree with Republicans but I would never be so arrogant as to say that those who disagree with me hate America. Republicans only make up about 30% of the US population and if they ever want to win a national election again they better learn to have respect for the other side and tone down the rhetoric. Second, the people that want to “behead us” live in caves, and their main recruiting tool has been the Iraq War. Having the US in a quagmire, like Russia before us, was there intended goal.
All that said, maybe the election of a brown skinned man will help to change the veiw of America as the “oppressive god-less devil”.

Frank Schaeffer is the author of CRAZY FOR GOD-How I Grew Up As One Of The Elect, Helped Found The Religious Right, And Lived To Take All (Or Almost All) Of It Back. Now in paperback.
Subject: Excellent Article by Frank Schaeffer (Republican) about Obama
Every American should read this article! Beautifully written!
Huffington Post, Posted October 8, 2008 |
Obama Will Be One of The Greatest (and Most Loved) American Presidents
Great presidents are made great by horrible circumstances combined with character, temperament and intelligence. Like firemen, cops, doctors or soldiers, presidents need a crisis to shine.
Obama is one of the most intelligent presidential aspirants to ever step forward in American history. The likes of his intellectual capabilities have not been surpassed in public life since the Founding Fathers put pen to paper. His personal character is also solid gold. Take heart, America: we have the leader for our times.
I say this as a white, former life-long Republican. I say this as the proud father of a Marine. I say this as just another American watching his pension evaporate along with the stock market! I speak as someone who knows it’s time to forget party loyalty, ideology and pride and put the country first. I say this as someone happy to be called a fool for going out on a limb and declaring that, 1) Obama will win, and 2) he is going to be amongst the greatest of American presidents.
Obama is our last best chance. He’s worth laying it all on the line for.
This is a man who in the age of greed took the high road of community service. This is the good father and husband. This is the humble servant. This is the patient teacher. This is the scholar statesman. This is the man of deep Christian faith.
Good stories about Obama abound; from his personal relationship with his Secret Service agents (he invites them into his home to watch sports, and shoots hoops with them) to the story about how, more than twenty years ago, while standing in the check-in line at an airport, Obama paid a $100 baggage surcharge for a stranger who was broke and stuck. (Obama was virtually penniless himself in those days.) Years later after he became a senator, that stranger recognized Obama’s picture and wrote to him to thank him. She received a kindly note back from the senator. (The story only surfaced because the person, who lives in Norway, told a local newspaper after Obama ran for the presidency. The paper published a photograph of this lady proudly displaying Senator Obama’s letter.)
Where many leaders are two-faced; publicly kindly but privately feared and/or hated by people closest to them, Obama is consistent in the way he treats people, consistently kind and personally humble. He lives by the code that those who lead must serve. He believes that. He lives it. He lived it long before he was in the public eye.
Obama puts service ahead of ideology. He also knows that to win politically you need to be tough. He can be. He has been. This is a man who does what works, rather than scoring ideological points. In other words he is the quintessential non-ideological pragmatic American. He will (thank God!) disappoint ideologues and purists of the left and the right.
Obama has a reservoir of personal physical courage that is unmatched in presidential history. Why unmatched? Because as the first black contender for the presidency who will win, Obama, and all the rest of us, know that he is in great physical danger from the seemingly unlimited reserve of unhinged racial hatred, and just plain unhinged ignorant hatred, that swirls in the bowels of our wounded and sinful country. By stepping forward to lead, Obama has literally put his life on the line for all of us in a way no white candidate ever has had to do. (And we all know how dangerous the presidency has been even for white presidents.)
Nice stories or even unparalleled courage isn’t the only point. The greater point about Obama is that the midst of our worldwide financial meltdown, an expanding (and losing) war in Afghanistan, trying to extricate our country from a wrong and stupidly mistaken ruinously expensive war in Iraq, our mounting and crushing national debt, awaiting the next (and inevitable) al Qaeda attack on our homeland, watching our schools decline to Third World levels of incompetence, facing a general loss of confidence in the government that has been exacerbated by the Republicans doing all they can to undermine our government’s capabilities and programs… President Obama will take on the leadership of our country at a make or break time of historic proportions. He faces not one but dozens of crisis, each big enough to define any presidency in better times.
As luck, fate or divine grace would have it (depending on one’s personal theology) Obama is blessedly, dare I say uniquely, well-suited to our dire circumstances. Obama is a person with hands-on community service experience, deep connections to top economic advisers from the renowned University of Chicago where he taught law, and a middle-class background that gives him an abiding knowledgeable empathy with the rest of us. As the son of a single mother, who has worked his way up with merit and brains, recipient of top-notch academic scholarships, the peer-selected editor of the Harvard Law Review and, in three giant political steps to state office, national office and now the presidency, Obama clearly has the wit and drive to lead.
Obama is the sober voice of reason at a time of unreason. He is the fellow keeping his head while all around him are panicking. He is the healing presence at a time of national division and strife. He is also new enough to the political process so that he doesn’t suffer from the terminally jaded cynicism, the seen-it-all-before syndrome afflicting most politicians in Washington. In that regard we Americans lucked out. It’s as if having despaired of our political process we picked a name from the phone book to lead us and that person turned out to be a very man we needed.
Obama brings a healing and uplifting spiritual quality to our politics at the very time when our worst enemy is fear.. For eight years we’ve been ruled by a stunted fear-filled mediocrity of a little liar who has expanded his power on the basis of creating fear in others. Fearless Obama is the cure. He speaks a litany of hope rather than a litany of terror.
As we have watched Obama respond in a quiet reasoned manner to crisis after crisis, in both the way he has responded after being attacked and lied about in the 2008 campaign season, to his reasoned response to our multiplying national crises, what we see is the spirit of a trusted family doctor with a great bedside manner. Obama is perfectly suited to hold our hand and lead us through some very tough times. The word panic is not in the Obama dictionary.
America is fighting its ‘Armageddon’ in one fearful heart at a time. A brilliant leader with the mild manner of an old-time matter-of-fact country doctor soothing a frightened child is just what we need. The fact that our ‘doctor’ is a black man leading a hitherto white-ruled nation out of the mess of its own making is all the sweeter and raises the Obama story to that of moral allegory.
Obama brings a moral clarity to his leadership reserved for those who have had to work for everything they’ve gotten and had to do twice as well as the person standing next to them because of the color of their skin. His experience of succeeding in spite of his color, social background and prejudice could have been embittering or one that fostered a spiritual rebirth of forgiveness and enlightenment. Obama radiates the calm inner peace of the spirit of forgiveness.
Speaking as a believing Christian I see the hand of a merciful God in Obama’s candidacy. The biblical metaphors abound. The stone the builder rejected is become the cornerstone… the last shall be first… he that would gain his life must first lose it… the meek shall inherit the earth…
For my secular friends I’ll allow that we may have just been extraordinarily lucky! Either way America wins.
Only a brilliant man, with the spirit of a preacher and the humble heart of a kindly family doctor can lead us now. We are afraid, out of ideas, and worst of all out of hope. Obama is the cure. And we Americans have it in us to rise to the occasion. We will. We’re about to enter one of the most frightening periods of American history. Our country has rarely faced more uncertainty. This is the time for greatness. We have a great leader. We must be a great people backing him, fighting for him, sacrificing for a cause greater than ourselves.
A hundred years from now Obama’s portrait will be placed next to that of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt. Long before that we’ll be telling our children and grandchildren that we stepped out in faith and voted for a young black man who stood up and led our country back from the brink of an abyss. We’ll tell them about the power of love, faith and hope. We’ll tell them about the power of creativity combined with humility and intellectual brilliance. We’ll tell them that President Obama gave us the gift of regaining our faith in our country. We’ll tell them that we all stood up and pitched in and won the day. We’ll tell them that President Obama restored our standing in the world. We’ll tell them that by the time he left office our schools were on the mend, our economy booming, that we’d become a nation filled with green energy alternatives and were leading the world away from dependence on carbon-based destruction. We’ll tell them that because of President Obama’s example and leadership the integrity of the family was restored, divorce rates went down, more fathers took responsibility for their children, and abortion rates fell dramatically as women, families and children were cared for through compassionate social programs that worked. We’ll tell them about how the gap closed between the middle class and the super rich, how we won health care for all, how crime rates fell, how bad wars were brought to an honorable conclusion. We’ll tell them that when we were attacked again by al Qaeda, how reason prevailed and the response was smart, tough, measured and effective, and our civil rights were protected even in times of crisis…
We’ll tell them that we were part of the inexplicably blessed miracle that happened to our country those many years ago in 2008 when a young black man was sent by God, fate or luck to save our country. We’ll tell them that it’s good to live in America where anything is possible. Yes we will.

I would like some clarification from all of those individuals that believe, African Ammericans are voting for Obama becasue of his skin color. Why is it ok that we have voted for years and supported White candidates, based on their political views and now that there is a candidtae, that we believe in, some White Americans believe that we do not have a right to make a choice. Obama is as much white as he is black and his views are just as diverse and inclusive. Could it be that those who have been accustomed to a certain priviledge are fearful that they will be treated as they treat others? It is alarming that after the Republicans ran this country into the ground by refusing to communicate honestly that we aren’t all on the same page. Are you better off than you were 8 years ago? We are not alone in this world and we all are more alike than we are different. We want our children to prosper, we want to pay our bills and live a happy life, worship based on our faith, and not be criticized for our beliefs. Most of all we should be able to communicate and diagree without being disagreeable. Obama ‘08

Lets hope it’s Obama
That would send a message to the republican party in GA and the USA.
I am a registered republican in GA, Have been since I was 18. I even voted for McCain in the primaries. But I have since researched each candidate, I even prayed about it. My vote went to Obama, I feel that at this time he is the person who can lead this country back to it’s moral center. As I said before I did vote for McCain, in more than one election. It’s just at this time I believe he’s “sold his soul” for this campaign. Meaning, some of his “new” stands on the issues, and his choice of Gov. Sarah Palin for V.P. made it painfully clear. He wouldn’t get my vote. Now as far as the GOP in GA, listen up. I’m not happy with you either. Some changes need to be made. But those things are for another time. Let’s hope that the people of this state have woken-up to what has been happening to this state and country for the last 8-10 years. Besides, if I’m wrong about all this. We have another chance to change it in four years.
God Bless America!!!

When my coworker called me to look at the comments on this website I was sickened and upset. After everything this country has been through and is still going through we still don’t have the time to REALLY look around us and appreciate the world and others not for what they look like on the outside but they’re character and who they are on the inside. We are all people. God’s people and its time we united under someone who cares about us as people and not about how much money we make or what we look like or even what community we live in. As the leader of the free nations we should be doing our best to set the type of example we want other countries to follow first. Yet, we are too busy bullying and telling other countries to do one thing why we show and do another. Half the world hates us and laughs at us behind our backs. Because they can see us for the hypocrites we are whether we can see it or not. Its time this world……. …. Its People were united and generations start seeing individuals for the work they have done and the good deeds they have spread through the world. While you sit on your computers making racist comments and having prejudice thoughts, you need to ask yourself when is the last time I judged myself. When is the last time I tried to change the world for the better? When is the last time I stopped looking and waiting for others and took a long deep look within myself for the CHANGE that will come. Because it will whether you want it to or not. This world is about making a better EARTH not just America but earth for the next generations to come. We won’t always be here and when you’re gone will you be able to say I did something positive, good, and blessed for others. Think about that when you’re picking the next president to lead not only America but this world in the years to come.

Although I voted for Obama, I expect that McCain will still carry Georgia.
Many of the comments on this blog are irrational and reflect intolerance, fear and ignorance—-on both sides. Its sad really. If some of the comments reflect “how far we’ve come” in the four decades since the assasination of Martin Luther King, then maybe we haven’t come very far at all.
When you really “get to it” neither Obama nor McCain will be able to implement EVERYTHING that thye’ve suggested. Congress will no doubt re-shape, to some extent, the basic core of all of their proposals for healthcare, energy independence, Iraq, etc. Seems to me that the important thing is the candidate’s mind and the way that he uses it and the way that he responds to crisis. I voted for Obama because, I trust the way that he thinks more so than the manner in which McCain thinks—-and reacts. McCain’s choice of VP was a cruel joke on the American electorate, his response to the Wall Street meltdown and his inability say EXACTLY WHY, he is necessarily more qualified to be Commander in Chief than Obama concerns me. Especially the later. Just because one has had a long military career does not necessarily make one a better CIC than his opponent. I laud McCain for his service to the country and the fact that he was a P.O. W. I really do. But there was nothing outstanding about his military career. Yep, he ws in the military. But then again, so was Custer.

McCain will win Georgia, but I am afraid Obama will win the presidency. I am sick of left wing big government liberals calling everyone who doesnt support the inexperienced community organizer a racist. It’s very offensive!! My voting against the holly ONE…B. Hussein Obama has nothing to do with the color of his skin, but everything to do with his policys and his desire to take us further and further away from the constitution. If people look beyond the charisma and the smile, what you get is a big government left wing liberal who thinks it’s unpatrotic not to want to pay more taxes and thinks people are selfish to want to keep more of their money - wake up, we are a democracy, not a socialist society.

Judging from the comments already posted, the State of Georgia remains segregated, racist and fearful. This is national election and our vote should be for the best qualified and for the person who will represent our values. Race should never play any part in our safety, future and economy. Re America 12:40 p.m.
Please provide proof that Obama refuses to salute the flag. Please provide proof he is a Muslim.
The GOP and related nutcases have once again been raising the issue of Reverend Wright. Well you can’t have it both ways. Either Obama is a Muslim and the entire 20+ years he was a member of Rev. Wright’s church was all for show or he is a Christian. Please provide proof he is a Muslim.
Further even if he was, which he isn’t, what difference does it make? The wild-eyed evangelicals about died when Kennedy was running because he was a Catholic. I would much rather have a Muslim as president than a pretend evangelical like Bush who spoke about his faith but believed in war for gain, torture, poverty, allowing one of America’s cities to flood, real wage declines, etc. Those aren’t Christian values.
And you obviously don’t have a clue about the world around you. Jews, Christians and Muslims all worship the same God. Their expressions of their faith are captured in different books of faith and in different frameworks but their religions all point to the same God. Muslims look to Abraham as the great patriarch and see Jesus, just as the Jews do, as a prophet but not as the Messiah.
Please educate yourself before posting on this website. I suspect you get most of your education from Rush or Insanity.

Atlanta lives off of racism. Those who does not think that simply does not want to see. The democrats in Atlanta will invoke or inject racism every chance it gets to promote its agenda. That is well known through out Ga and that is why McCain will win Ga. Atlanta is a nest for racists. It thrives off of racism and it is not the Whites who do it. Those who have blamed the “whites”(due to the bias media associating the whites with conservatives) continue to spew bigotry and reversed prejudice/racism nation wide. To the Pillsbury Doy boy in the first response. It would take a lot more than black votes for Obama to win. Blacks only make up about 10-15% of the voting population. If each and every black voted for him it still would only be a small number. So I would figure that some other racial backgrounds are voting for him too and they out number the blacks that vote for him.

I hope McCain wins the state and the nation. For me, it’s not about race…neither is it so much about the economy (the economy is bigger than any president, congress, or cabinet secretary, and the measures taken so far are stop-gap and limited in success at best, and at worst totally ineffectual). It’s about ideology at its most basic level. I refuse to vote for a candidate who: 1. Does not support the sanctity of life (which begins at conception). 2. Believes that curtailing or even overturning the Second Amendment will accomplish anything other than depriving good citizens of the ability to defend themselves. 3. Discounts initiative and hard work in getting ahead, instead favoring a “redistribution of wealth”. 4. Publicly denounces gay marriage, yet fails to support Prop 8 in California. If you’re gonna talk the talk, walk the walk. 5. Has plans to circumvent the Constitution through the appointment of judges opposed to strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. 6. Plans to weaken U.S. security by deploying a naive and dangerous policy of accommodating terrorists and the regimes that support them.
If this is “change” leave me “unchanged”, please.

Our image with the rest of the world is the lowest it has ever been. Sarah Palin is an absolute joke—who and why would you even want to have her as a VP or President when McCain has heart failure. The republican agenda always wants to instill FEAR to the general public to steal an election from the rest of us. It happened in 2000 when i lived in FL., and 2004, with the gay marriage right-wing agenda, it is time the Democrats take control from this controlling monopoly even if it comes with voting for a black person who also will inspire many many other people to fulfill their dreams because that is what makes this country so great and why I moved to NYC to pursue a dream.

Let’s speak truth here
The democrats are not FOR abortion. The party doesn’t advocate the use of abortion for family planning purposes. It does support the right of a woman to choose and allow that decision to be between herself, her partner and God.
The Republicans talk about being pro-life but as recently evidenced they are gleeful when the state executes the convicted even when we have several deathrow inmates relased when their innocence has been proven. I don’t want the state murdering in my name. And if you are so pro-life why don’t you care about the child before birth by funding pre—natal care, ensuring the child has health care, a decent chance in school. Why do you want to cut Medicare and Social Security for those so in need in their retirement years? Why are you so excited about torture and war for profit?
The issue of gay marriage is not as open and closed as you might think in the Bible. Biblical literalists believe the teachings are clear on the issue of homosexuality but many scholars are critical of this approach and demonstrate how literalists pick and choose what they want to believe in and take text out of context.

concerned southerner - Sarah Palin has more executive experience that Obama. Obama’s claim to fame is being a community organizer and a few years in the state senate, then 2 years in the US Senate all the time choosing not to vote on any issues that would look bad once he ran for President. It’s not only the republicans that are racist - democrats are coming out in droves, just to vote for Obama because he is black. First time voters never concerned before today.

I am a black woman voting for McCain. I’ve been told by friends and family that I am going against my race by voting for McCain. In the words of Martin Luther King , “Don’t judge someone by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” This is what I am doing! The election should not be about race - and I am ashamed to see “my people” running to the polls and voting for a man just because he is black.

Whatever results turn up it’s all still going to a whole lot better than what we’ve all endured with Bush being in the White House. I am going to be the ignorant of ‘em all and admit that I’m veering on not voting today. I have followed this election since the get go and I honestly don’t have anything nice to think about either McCain or Obama.
I do have my opinion on the whole ‘race card’ issue..It has been and is so apparent with Obama running, the black culture has been more turned on(sorta to say)…I think it’s bad how voting NOW matters so much, to so many and for obvious reasons!! Just the mindset behind it is disturbing..
I am from So.California and now live in the heart of Atlanta on Martin Luther King Jr Dr and just around the corner from his burial site in fact.. in the time I’ve live here I have learned and been exposed to alot of the black culture..it’s amazing how naive I’ve been to it all..in good and bad ways.
With Obama in the running, people down here are really experiencing this election with such powerful passion..such extreme personal attachment..I am seeing this first hand..just here at work hearing coworkers straight out saying they are voting for Obama only because he’s black. They might not be saying this with their all their brains but man, they are meaning it with all their hearts. Now, how wrong and right is that?? Some one else shared how she’s taking her son to the MLK burial site tonight where there will be a gathering right where MLK marched..and this will be a day definitely for her son to remember. Georgia had Obama’s back here for sure.
I’m Native American(Apache), I was born on a indian reservation in Texas.. and I’ll honestly say my views and beliefs about government vary greatly on gray scales and it does hinder my ideas about it all. And one can say it’s because of my people’s history..so I’m feeling awful because if I don’t vote today I know it doesn’t make me any better then any of those others with their skewed views. Sadly.

By the way, RICH BUSINESS MAN, the 150 people you lay off is probably less than a percent of the unemployed. Circuit city is closing 20% of it’s stores compared to you 150 employees. Don’t get me wrong, I feel bad that they have a boss that would fire them out of spite and find a loophole to not pay their unemployent, but it is much bigger than you in the current economy. Hell, are there any jobs left in America? So that point you are so desperately trying to make is like a fart in a hurricane.

I don’t like either candidate. I will be voting for the “lesser of two evils”. Unfortunately, the one that will probably win is also the one that will do the most harm to me financially - I’m an accountant and I’ve run the numbers.
The Democratically controlled congress has already allowed tax breaks that help the middle class expire and most people won’t know it until they file their 2008 tax return next year. Teachers, who often vote for Democrats, are among those hurt - no more teacher expense deduction.
I have asked many people who they are voting for and why. When they respond with Obama, most say change is why. When I ask them to specify that change, they either can’t clarify or state that it is because they don’t want any more George Bush economics. When I ask what Bush did to the economy, they refer to the financial crisis. When I ask who passed the laws that allowed the sub-prime mortgages, most don’t know. That is when I refer them to the congressional record that shows Democrats sponsoring and passing that bill under Clinton.
In all honesty, both sides are to blame. I’m mad at McCain for agreeing to the bailout, but McCain helped write and sponsor a bill to stop the sub-prime mortgages before it got to this point - he couldn’t get congress to agree. I’m mad at Obama for agreeing to the bailout too, but he hasn’t been around long enough to blame for all the old stuff, except that he is supported by lots of long time Democrats - guilt by association.
One day, we may once again have a president who becomes president for the right reasons - to do what is best for our country and the people who live in it. Until then, I’ll keep voting for the lesser of the evils.

SAXBY/McCAIN- Palin also has more executive experience than MdCain. If executive experience is so darn important then why isn’t she on the top of the ticket? I’ll tell you why, because it doesn’t mean diddlysquat. The more y’all squawk about it the more desperate you seem. Face it Republicans, you can thank George W. Bush for Obama’s victory. He screwed up things so badly that he is getting you party fired. You may not like it but that is the truth. America has had a long time to look at and listen to both candidates and I think you will find that Obama will win in a landslide (over 300 electoral votes). It kills me how everyone on here thinks that people who do not vote for Obama are racist. There are hundreds of reason I would not vote for Obama and not one of them is hte color of his skin. I am so glad to see the voter turnout that has turned out for this election. To bad 90 percent of them have never voted beofre and could never had a care less. If half of the new voters who are purely voting becasue there is a black man on the ballot have ever voted before our country might not be in the mess we are in now. Everyone is blaming Bush for the mess we are in now it has nothing to do with the Senate and the House all being run by the democrats. And to sum up my little rant here and what got me in to this was seeing 3 people in bright yellow NAACP jackets wheel in a man in a wheel chair and he stands up in front of me and goes up to the voting booth and asks a poll worker and these were his exact words “Which one of these says Obama”. Thats how my morning started so it can only get better from there right.

Ocendot I find the following problematic:
I refuse to vote for a candidate who: 1. Does not support the sanctity of life (which begins at conception). NOT TRUE …HE BELIEVES IN CHOICE..WHY SHOULD GOVERNMENT OR STRANGERS DECIDE WHAT DECISION I MAKE FOR MY LIFE, FAMILY, AND BODY. I AM OFFENDED BY PROLIFERS WHO DON’T RCOGNIZE AND BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE MANY LIVES OF HOMELESS CHILDREN/ADULTS WHO REQUIRE ASSISTANCE,WOULD BOMB A CLINIC, OR CALL FOR THE ASSINATION OF AN AMERICAN WITH WHOM THEY DISAGREE 2. Believes that curtailing or even overturning the Second Amendment will accomplish anything other than depriving good citizens of the ability to defend themselves. NOT TRUE…WHY SHOULD CRIMINALS BE BETTER EQUIPED THAN LAW ENFORCEMENT? WHY SHOULD FIREARMS BE AS EASY TO BUY AS A GALLON OF MILK? 3. Discounts initiative and hard work in getting ahead, instead favoring a “redistribution of wealth”. NOT TRUE.. HAVE YOU READ HIS STORY. HE IS A PRODUCT OF HARD WORK AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND ADVOCATES THOSE PRINCIPLES. GOVERNMENT ALSO HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT OUR TAX DOLLARS ARE BEING SPENT CORRECTLY. HAVE WE GOTTEN THE MOST BANG FOR OUR BUCKS IN THE LAST 8 YEARS? 4. Publicly denounces gay marriage, yet fails to support Prop 8 in California. If you’re gonna talk the talk, walk the walk. NOT TRUE…HE SUPPORTS CIVIL UNIONS GAY AMERICAN SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE BENEFITS ETC FOR THEIR LOVED ONES. 5. Has plans to circumvent the Constitution through the appointment of judges opposed to strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. NOT TRUE…HE TAUGHT CONSTITUTIONAL LAW.. ARE YOU IN AGREEMENT WITH THE LOSS OF YOUR RIGHT TO PRIVACY? THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION TOOK THAT FROM YOU. DID YOU OBJECT? 6. Plans to weaken U.S. security by deploying a naive and dangerous policy of accommodating terrorists and the regimes that support them.NOT TRUE…WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT DIPLOMACY..OH I KNOW…RIGHT WHERE WE ARE TODAY..IN TWO WARS THAT STRETCH OUR MILITARY VERY THIN.

All these folks on here talkin’ about Blacks not having been so anxious to vote in the past, I would venture to say that most other minority cultures have been guilty of the same apathy in past elections. I for one don’t blame them. Generally, if you don’t have a dog in the fight, then you’re probably not all that interested…… Secondly, it shows the attitudes of a lot of biased majority voters given their view that all blacks or minorities will vote for Obama, it just ain’t so. There are too many blacks hating on Obama, because he is black and they refuse to support him for that very reason. By the token, a substantial number of white voters will vote for McCain for the same reason, he’s white and that’s who they identify with. Fortunately, there are some intelligent voters among us who will vote for the right guy for the right reason….. he’s the right man for the job!

The Brothas…
In Philadelphia, FOX News’ Rick Leventhal received a report from Republican poll watcher Chris Hill that two Black Panthers had stationed themselves at the door to a polling station and were intimidating voters. One held a night stick, Hill said.
Hill told FOX News that he went to talk to the men and they told him white power didn’t rule there.
The man reportedly carrying a night stick was escorted away from the polling station by police, and FOX News found another Black Panther outside the station who said he was a certified observer. Police asked him and the FOX News crew to leave the polling station.

I think and hope Obama will take Georgia. It’s not a matter of race; he’s simply the more intelligent, thoughtful, deliberating, thinking candidate.
Of course, I find it hard to vote for any Republican any more. I learned that lesson the hard way (about how Republicans use race to turn an election) from the late Paul Coverdell. In 1992, when he was running in the primary against Bob Barr (yes, the same one running now as a libertarian), I was working as a graphic artist, and I was asked by Mr. Coverdell to create a piece of campaign literature for him—and make the picture of Mr. Barr look “darker, sort of like he’s Black.” It was a horrible request, but it was done so the white Republicans in Georgia would vote for Coverdell and not Barr for Senate.
The late Mr. Coverdell went on to win the Senate seat, and while he might have done some good, I still feel he got there in a deceitful way. And from that point until now, I’ve avoided voting for Republicans who use race as an issue. McCain did it in a subliminal way, and so I vote now for Barack Obama. Proudly.

If a white votes for McCain, then according to the AJC and the bloggers, they are a racist. It doesn’t matter about who the best candidate is or any other issues.
However what do you call a black voting for McCain? I have talked to several today that voted today and 6 African-Americans have told me while they were going to vote for Obama, in their heart they just couldn’t do it. His past associations and so many unanswered questions about his past worried them. Not to mention the fact that even his running mate doubted he could handle a foreign crisis. Most I talked to stated they had already voted and several did not change their vote. But I found it interested that those opposing Obama are racist.
BTW - everyone I spoke with except one is college educated and reside in or around Atlanta. The fact is, if this election only allowed the college educated, well employed vote, McCain would win by a landslide. And if we eliminated or deported those liberal college professors Ron Paul may take 2nd place with Obama a distant third. Those that think Obama has the educated wrapped up need to stand outside an election poll and look at the demographics voting for each candidate.

Hey Mike just to clear things up the Republican had control of the house senate and the executive office for 6 of the last 8 years.
Yes, and the economy was fine even after 9/11 up until 2 years ago. What changed? Oh yeah the Dems took control of the House.
I’m not a George W. fan, however I shudder to think how Gore or Pelosi(spl?) or many of the other Dems would have handled getting America back on track after 9/11. Wall Street and the World economy could have easily collapsed right then with extreme fear of living by the American people. But somehow Bush was able to make people feel a little safer and his advisors were able to plug Wall Street from total failure. Yes we had to take the war to the terroist and many young Americans have dies for our protection, but have we been attacked again on our soil? Yes Wall Street eventually did fall, but to point the finger at either party would be wrong, but it did happen on the Dems. watch.

I’m going to stir things up with this observation…if the increased number of people registering to vote, isn’t because of race…why didn’t we see this happen back when Clinton was runing for office. Please remember to vote in the future elections…it’s your right to vote on a candidate…hopefully you’re voting for them for the right reason…time WILL tell.

When your children tell you that black students at school are saying that there will be riots if Obama doesn’t win, then you know that racism is alive and well in the world. Unfortunately, few will admit that many blacks (not all) harbor just as much racism now as many whites (not all) did before the 1960s.

Come on people. It is 2008. Lets get over our fixation on color for goodness sakes. I am a white middle class male who would rather see Obama in office than McCain. I typically vote democrat but have switched in the past based on where they stand on issues. Yes, there are people that will vote based on color and I have seen it 1st hand by living in Clayton County and seeing what this county has turned into… a complete mess! If I were black, I would be proud that Obama has a very good chance to be president. Let us all not forget that Obama cannot get elected on the black vote alone. There are millions of white Americans that will vote for him too. So it is not a white/black issue. If it were, all the white people would vote for McCain and all the black people would vote for Obama and for goodness sake quit clumping an entire racial group into a category based on a small group of idiot racists (both black and white). Now get over your issues and welcome a new era into the good ole USA!! :)

Ace, Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your arguments don’t hold water… 1.”HE BELIEVES IN CHOICE..WHY SHOULD GOVERNMENT OR STRANGERS DECIDE WHAT DECISION I MAKE FOR MY LIFE, FAMILY, AND BODY. I AM OFFENDED BY PROLIFERS WHO DON’T RCOGNIZE AND BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE MANY LIVES OF HOMELESS CHILDREN/ADULTS WHO REQUIRE ASSISTANCE,WOULD BOMB A CLINIC, OR CALL FOR THE ASSINATION OF AN AMERICAN WITH WHOM THEY DISAGREE”- Choice is murder, just as assassination is murder, just as terrorism is… you cannot make those distinctions just because it’s “your body”…If a person can be charged with infanticide or two murders by killing a pregnant woman, how is it that the same pregnant woman herself could LEGALLY kill the same child via abortion? 2. “WHY SHOULD CRIMINALS BE BETTER EQUIPED THAN LAW ENFORCEMENT? WHY SHOULD FIREARMS BE AS EASY TO BUY AS A GALLON OF MILK?”- Why should they be better equipped than me? I have purchased firearms LEGALLY, and it is much more difficult than buying milk…it’s the ILLEGAL purchases that are easy, so banning LEGAL firearms will have no impact, except to make things worse for us and our families in dangerous times. 3.”HE IS A PRODUCT OF HARD WORK AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND ADVOCATES THOSE PRINCIPLES. ” Really? Is that why he plans to tax to death the very people and concerns which, by their success, provide our jobs? Or by their ability to keep costs down (i.e. taxes) provide affordable goods and services for us all? In effect, he will not ” spread the wealth”, he will “spread the misery”. 4.”HE SUPPORTS CIVIL UNIONS GAY AMERICAN SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE BENEFITS ETC FOR THEIR LOVED ONES.”- He said in the debates that he was against gay marriage…you may not have watched them, but I did. Why then, no support of Prop 8? Because he is double minded. 5. “NOT TRUE…HE TAUGHT CONSTITUTIONAL LAW.. ARE YOU IN AGREEMENT WITH THE LOSS OF YOUR RIGHT TO PRIVACY? THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION TOOK THAT FROM YOU. DID YOU OBJECT?” As a matter of fact, I do not agree with these measures…however, just because he taught constitutional law does not mean he agrees with the Constitution. 6. “WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT DIPLOMACY..OH I KNOW…RIGHT WHERE WE ARE TODAY..IN TWO WARS THAT STRETCH OUR MILITARY VERY THIN. ” Name one nation that has successfully negotiated a lasting peace with terrorists…just one. Can’t can you. There’s a reason for this…if terrorists . Terrorists by their very nature are unreasonable, untrustworthy, dogmatic and violent. And you want to appease these people at the expense of America? Sorry, I’m not buying it, nor any of the other “problems” you have.

How does this sound …President Barack Huessin Obama? How come he had his birth records sealed? Was he a naturalized citizens when he came back from Indonesia? Only citizens of Indonesia could attend school in that country during the time he was enrolled. Therefore, to get back into the USA he had to be declared a naturalized citizen. That would disqualify him to be President.

making, I do agree that many of the new voters registered because there is a black/white man running. Hopefully they will be able to get past the novelty of this election and continue to vote in the future looking at the actual candidate’s ideas. I was just very surprised though because an older white gentleman just came in the office and I asked him if he had voted yet. Now bare in mind, I didn’t ask or care who he voted for, but he got upset and said he didn’t vote because he didn’t like either one. This attitude, along with people voting based on race is probably what is killing the McCain’s campaign. Now just blacks voting for Obama because of race is not going to be nearly enough to sway the election one way or another in my opinion. I didn’t know that there are white people that don’t vote, I thought it was just blacks.

Wow .. reading these comments makes me sad for my great state and the city of Atlanta. I’m a white, educated, professional 50-year old male from the Old South (I guess ‘redneck’), generally make over $250K/year and voted for Obama. My political views hover in the middle but I’m a strong believer in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I did my research and the proper due diligence and made my own choice. I’m not influenced by the media, as I know bias exist across the board. I believe in helping my fellow man and equality for all. I don’t believe McCain supporters are “idiots” or “rednecks” … I trust their judgement and what the believe is best for them (that’s the ‘freedom’ we all enjoy). However; I know what is best for me and is it not 4 years of McCain/Pallin.
So, let’s drop the name calling, focus on the issues we ALL face and move this country forward.

Aluesia, you are an ignorant twit.
First sweetheart, my ancestors were poor Italian immigrants, hardly the “slavedriver” types. So for you to pop your idiot mouth off to tout of “all the work black folks did for you white folks during slavery” is complete utter ignorant rhetoric on your part. It’s cool baby, get your “black president”. Once he’s in, don’t keep screaming about your supposed “injustices”.
McCain AND Obama SUCK. They’re BOTH financial elitists and care no more for you than they do for me, or any of us. They both voted for that lame excuse of a “bailout package” for not you or me, certainly, but for their banking buddies on Wall Street. NEITHER ONE cares about any of us, only their own agendas. And by us, I mean ALL of us, regardless of skin color. Something you painfully fail to see.
Fools like you don’t realize it’s not about race, this is class warfare. It’s the rich and elite (fed. government) vs. the working class (us) - it always has been, always will be. That goes for not only Democrats but Republicans as well. They’re ALL crooks and at OUR expense.
Don’t you dare speak for me as “one of them white folks”, you don’t know me or MY heritage. Go get your “education on” instead of mouthing off like a low-rent ghetto rat. How’s that for a stereotype?

As a black American, I am insulted by the comments on this page. I believe McCain will win Georgia, but not deservingly. I am not supporting Obama because he’s black; I am supporting him because he represents an opportunity to take this country in a different direction. Watching the homes prices in my neighborhood plummet, watching the small business I worked hard to create crumple because the real estate market is dead, and watching everything for which I have worked hard blow away is devastating. There are McCain supporters who oppose large government and increased taxes, but I am doubtful that the majority of unintelligent bloggers here would pay a dime more taxes under an Obama administration. Many of those who commented on here can barely construct a sentence of even spell the most fundamental of words properly. These folks have no idea of why they support McCain except that he’s white and represents the status quo, one where white privilege is the norm. An uninformed black person, who claims to be a McCain supporter, asserted that blacks represent the largest beneficiaries of welfare, which is not true. She went on to state that we are all looking for the government to take care of us. I am ashamed for her. I don’t care that she’s supporting McCain, but at least have a compelling and defensible reason should you decide to give one. It appall me when those who think they’ve “made it” want to forget from where they come and turn their backs as though they are better. Not one of us is better than the weakest among us, and when one looks at you, they see a black person before they see anything else.
The fact that Obama is black is an incredibly big deal for me. Just 40 years ago, Barack Obama in this state would have by law been forced to drink from a colored only water fountain, enter restaurants through back doors and act in a subservient way towards white people just because he is black. Well today, I have an opportunity to vote for not just any black man, but to put in the WHITE HOUSE an intellectual, who is qualified to lead this great country. I am sick and tired of watching people suffer in this country, black and white alike.

With all due respect, Georgia hasn’t cornered the market on racism. It’s everywhere. You can’t move away from it. Even the least diverse states in this country have racists residing in them. Why? Because racism has to do with the condition of a person’s heart, not where they live.
A person is racist by choice, not by geography. So, whether it’s Georgia or Rhode Island, you’ll still come across them. The only cure for racism is a genuine encounter with Jesus Christ and a subsequent change of heart. That’s the only cure.

My brother a MUSLIM shed his BLOOD and died in IRAQ in 2006 for the USA. All I know is BUSH LIED and my only brother DIED. Why is it a bad thing to be a MUSLIM and run for president? We have FREEDOM of RELIGION only if you’re not running for PRESIDENT right?! The CRYPTKEEPER (McCain) never speaks of his religion, and I’ve never heard anyone question his beliefs, he could very well be a atheist. PEGGY HILL (PALIN) belives in WITCHDOCTORS and VOODOO PRIEST. BUSH ran this country on peoples’ FEARS, two (2)WARS,& astounding DEBT. What I don’t understand is why people don’t want taxes to be raised, is the USA to continue to borrow money from other countries?! There are more POOR people than WEALTHY people in this country, and if they know what’s good for them they WILL vote OBAMA. RICH people and BILLION DOLLAR CORPORATIONS do not need tax breaks. McCAIN will continue to give tax breaks to the wealthy 5% of this country. And will also continue to thank Companies when they take their businesses abroad by saying THANK YOU for not doing BUSINESS with the USA here’s a TAX BREAK.The CRYPTKEEPER (McCain) wants the war in IRAQ to end with a victory, why can’t the war just end with as many live soldiers as the USA can bring home. As we all have come to learn the USA does not belong and has never belonged in IRAQ. My mom wanted me to add that she is MAD as HELL that she LOST her SON,her ONLY SON to a LIE. I have heard many voters say that they are “voting for the lesser of two evils” and I think that is absurd. Actually, I think for the first time in a long time, we have the opportunity to choose between two great men. Both men are visionaries and I think either of them will make fantastic leaders of the free world - they will just go about it in significantly different ways. I have tremendous respect for both men and I look forward to either of them assuming the role of President of the United States.
There are many who obviously have a problem with the idea that Obama has been able to get many people (primarily black people but young people as well) to vote who have not voted in large numbers in the past. What those people are missing is that although Obama has been able to get black people (and young people) to vote, he would not have won the Democratic nomination (let alone the Presidency) without SIGNIFICANT support from people of all races, cultures and backgrounds. Black people make up less than 12% of this nation’s population and if every single one of them vote for Obama, he still won’t be CLOSE to becoming President without the support of a lot of other people. Obama is in position to become President due to his ability to convince the majority of voters that he is the right man to lead
this great nation out of this financial crisis and that he is the right man to lead us out of an increasingly unpopular war in Irag.
As for McCain, the idea that every person who supports him is a racist is ridiculous. McCain is an honorable man who has done a lot for this country and he deserves the respect of us all. Don’t let the racist ramblings of a few prevent you from recognizing that McCain is a great man. If he were to win the election, we would be FAR better off with him as President than we were under Bush.
The bottom line is that this nation will be FAR better off tomorrow than it is today no matter who is elected because both men are gifted leaders and that is something we have not had for some time.

Has everyone forsaken that which our Founding Fathers established…& held dear? Race…bah. I grew up in middle GA & sure, we had a few issues, but it was fueled by an older generation. I graduated in 86’…& am proud of the good Southern values taught to me by my family & neighbors (of all races). God, family…good morals & manners…respect for all. Yes, some will vote Obama just because he’s black (no matter the %). Some for McCain due to his age/white, etc. Some, it’s a faith issue, a personal character issue, experience (or lack of)…for many; straight party line, period. For those of you who say white people in GA won’t vote for a black man…hmm, if JC Watts or Alan Keyes were running…I’d vote for him. Many Obama supporters probably have never heard of them…& won’t give them a second glance; they’re conservatives & good, decent Christian men. Personally, I don’t like either Obama or McCain. But to vote Obama is to make a Democrat run Washington. If this happens…I’m not sure America can survive. Sorry folks, but he is a socialist, with tendancies to communism…do your homework. I’m well versed in our history, which is proof. Check out the “Congressional Record of 1963…the Communist Agenda”…then see how Obama compares to that.
May God interced in our lives…His divine providence guide us. I fear for my children if the liberals rule this country…we cannot last for long. Kruschev was correct…”piece by piece, America will fall”.

I’m not sure why so many are saying that Whites will vote against Obama based on race when 98% of Blacks are voting for Obama. Clearly, that turnout is purely racially motivated.
Most have no idea about Sen. Obama’s political agenda or history. They just want to vote for a Black president. Look at some of the posters here. “White people are mad about losing”; as if this is a White vs Black election.
If there was another candidate with the exact same voting record and platform as Sen. Obama, but it was a White man, would 98% of the Black community support him? Nope.
*There is much more racism from the Black community in this election. *

What does experience have to do with anythng? I don’t recall there ever being a Presidential class that you take prior to running for office. If that were the case we wouldn’t be in the same situation 4 years later. Its time that we have a President who is for the people and wants to bring fresh ideas to the table in trying to better our economy. If I am not mistaken when we vote and the president is elected he works for all of us as a nation, not just the ones that voted for him (which seems to be the case as the richer continue to get rich, and the middle class and low-income continue to struggle to maintain) Ask yourself when was the last time the President or any president actually asked for your input in the way the economy and the way that the government is handling things.
We have to ask ourselves where we will be in another 10 years if we keep the same people with the same ideas in office and pushing this country backwards. I am not sure if you are aware or not, but the last call that I made to confirm a hotel reservation the agent was was not in the states. If we continue outsourcing our jobs overseas the same ones complaining about those seeking government assistance will be the same ones fighting to get approved for it as well.
And by the way, Yes I did VOTE for CHANGE because I am tired of our elected officials not doing their job, but them managing to always come to the rescue of other countries and we have citizens here who can’t even get the assistance needed or programs put into place to give them that hand up that they need.

Stephen, how does voting for a black president make you racist? Vice versa. So if all the black people (who always vote demo) said they were voting for the first time repub, then that would be o.k.??
What is your definition of racism? Racism is when you think your race is superior to another race. What does casting a vote have to do with superiority?
Even if a person “is” voting because of race, that does not make them racist. That’s their preference.
Just because you choose to eat Pizza for dinner instead of hamburger doesn’t mean you think the Pizza is better than the hamburger. That’s just your preference that day. It doesn’t mean something is wrong with the hamburger or you hate it, you just want “PIZZA”.
Use this example: Just becuase you are republican doesn’t mean you think republicans are better people than democrats or that something is wrong with voting democratic, it just means that you prefer to be republican.
So stop making the negative comments because 98% of African Americans are voting for a black man. If he was white, 98% of the African Americans would still be voting for Barack Obama. WHY? Because of their belief in what he will do for the country, not because of the color of his skin.

The CRYPTKEEPER (MCcain) will continue to give the WEALTHY 5% of the country a tax break… they don’t need a tax break. He will continue to THANK COMPANIES that take JOBS abroad by saying thank you for NOT doing business with the USA here’s a tax break. My brother a MUSLIM dies for this country in 2006, I see that he is good enough to die for this country but, not run it. We have FREEDOM of religion here in the USA, ONLY if you’re not running for PRESIDENT. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING MUSLIM!!!!There is nothing that I can say about PEGGY HILL (PALIN) that hasn’t already been said she is a JOKE. CRYPTKEEPER (McCAIN) has never spoken of his religion that I’ve heard, he could be an ATHEIST. BUSH LIED AND MY ONLY BROTHER DIED. OH, and this is for the CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS STAY OUT OF MY UTERUS!! Why are people so against paying more TAXES?! Is the USA to continue to borrow money from CHINA? COUNTRY FIRST REPUBLICANS… AS LONG AS IT DOESN”T COME OUT OF YOUR POCKETS,RIGHT?! The CRYPTKEEPER wants to end the war on a victory, why not just end the war that was all a BIG LIE anyway and just bring the TROOPS home ALIVE and SAFE!

Hey Steve you don’t deserve to be the first comment on the blog. Why don’t you go snuggle up with your sister after brushing your tooth.I’m sure the long voting lines did not bother you because you drove your house to the polls.
Dude get over it Obama wins Ga and Obama wins the election.

Hey Scott Wallace, you don’t have to go too far to get away from black people. 30 miles outside 285 in any direction, you should be right at home. Might want to start looking for some housing.

ATLGal - You couldn’t be more wrong about me. I am a highly educated black woman. I want only good things for black people, and for ALL people. The black community needs to wake up - if they want to see real change it needs to start at home! Obama is not our savior!
